I go here very often, and yet I still have no idea what to write. Here goes nothing... This Target is small as far as Targets go, you will likely find they have a more limited selection that some other targets in the area. That is not to say they don't have a whole lot of stuff. Most of the stuff they have, excluding some electronics is on the budget end of the spectrum. While you will find a good DSLR camera, or a nice laptop, or a huge flat screen, you will not find [much] designer clothing, super high-end electronics, or a wide food selection. However, if you need a toothbrush, socks, or a package of AA batteries, this is a go to place. Prices are not as low as Wal-Mart, but you pay slightly more for slightly higher quality. The store is cleaner, and the staff is generally more helpful. Still, service can be hit or miss. There are some associates that were mean, and some that are helpful. Mark at the service desk is awesome! They have a generous return policy, you can return many items that most stores will typically not accept. Rather than list all of them, I will say this: don't be afraid to ask, especially on high priced items. But it is a no on bicycles, which kind of sucks. I recently went to the Target in Salem to buy the new Chromatica Oreos for my son's birthday party and I was extremely disappointed to see that they were out of stock. After a week or so, I decided to go back and check if they had the Oreos just so my son can have a great snack to eat during his online classes. They had them! :) but.. when my son ate them, he started saying something like.. 'Yes puuuur hun-ty slayyyyy" and it's been happening for the past two days. Specifically regarding the Salem,MA location. My wife and I returned something from our wedding registry and asked for a store credit-no problem. Come to find out,the cashier just refunded the person who gave us the gift and handed us a blank gift card. Of course, we didn't realize it until the next time we went to Target. When we went to the customer service desk, the manager there said "you should have come in within 30 days because now I can't do anything. It would be like giving you the money twice." Which is completely incorrect because we never got the money once since it was refunded to the original buyer. She claimed she couldn't do anything and essentially blamed us for not noticing sooner even though it was their fault to begin with. Five minutes with the Target.com customer service chat and it was all set. Long story short,don't go to the Salem location. Shop online or go to a different store. read more

This review has to do with the attitude of an employee I encountered, which I feel is as important (if not, more so) than the labor part of customer service. I used the Drive-Up for an item my boyfriend ordered on Black Friday. As you can see from my (well...his lol) handle, we don't live near Salem, so I only went to this specific Target because the item wasn't available anywhere else. Anyway, I keyed in the address to my GPS and halfway there I realized I'd spaced on clicking the 'I'm on my way' button in the Target app. No big deal, it's not like I was in a huge rush. So, I get there, open the app, and it immediately says something like, "Wow, that was quick. Your order may be delayed" Again: Not a problem at all. I accept that I made a little mistake. Plus, it was early afternoon, so there was literally only one other customer using Drive-Up, so it wasn't as if I was throwing a monkey wrench in the fulfullment of orders. Within one minute of me parking, I see an employee approach my car, empty-handed. Weird, but OK. I rolled down the window to see what was up. "Your order is going to be delayed. Next time, you need to say when you're coming." Before I could stop myself, I chuckled at her rudeness. Nothing like being lectured by a teenager, nevermind an employee of a store that you're patronizing. Now, to be fair, I understand that I semi messed up but: Jesus, it's not like I was complaining that they were taking a long time. Or, if she really wanted to, she could've said essentially the same thing in a professional, pleasant manner (i.e. "Just a heads-up: we usually ask customers to give us some notice of when they're showing up, but we're gonna try to get your order out ASAP.") in which case I would've said, "Of course! No problem." and left it at that. All I could muster after her disrespectful comment was a grin and said, "There isn't going to be a next time." When the order did come out (which, to give credit where credit is due--hence the extra star in the review-- was not long at all) she basically threw it onto my car seat and grunted, "haveagoodun'" Um...OK. I was actually going to compliment her on how quickly she fulfilled the order, but I guess since I couldn't take her commands on what I "needed" to do seriously, it got her panties in a bunch. Look, I get it: Working retail sucks. Maybe her manager told her to say that to me, maybe she was just having a rotten day, maybe she's just an awkward teenager, etc. but either way her demeanor was uncalled for. You don't need to be a ray of sunshine, but can you maybe try not ordering customers around and then have a mini temper tantrum because they didn't kowtow to you? lol I mean, it's a bit absurd. Work on educating your staff on proper customer relations, Target! read more

While the new "miniature" Target stores that keep popping up throughout the area serve a new purpose, the old and classic point of a Target store was one stop shopping, similar to Walmart and Kmart. The point of the stores was that everyone who shopped there could do ALL of their shopping in one place. Target, for one, has been very successful with this idea and over the years has incorporated numerous new developments to allow consumers jobs of shopping to get even easier. However, I argue that the Salem Target just makes shopping more difficult for the consumers who use this location. One of the largest attractions that Target has incorporated is food, in more and more of their stores, both big and small. This Target has a few brief aisles of food, but not much else. I literally think the home storage section is larger here, same as beauty! This Target is also in desperate need of renovations. It's old and in the ages of when Target was blue, green and red throughout their stores. Big news, Target is ALL red now! Definite upgrades needed for this location in terms of signage and even layout. Staff seemed pretty friendly, but I could barely get any of the things that I came in here for, so overall, it was a pointless and disappointing "Target run". I wouldn't suggest this store, it's too small and the priorities are way off. Go to the Danvers location for a real Target, or even the Saugus location for a somewhat better experience. 2 stars. read more

Target has huge aisles of goodies to choose from. It's fun browsing, but there's also a terrifically dangerous aspect to it. This isn't really my favorite Target, but it's the most convenient to my house - so I put up with it. It's a smaller Target store...so while they do have a market section, it is extremely limited (oh how I miss my South Bay Target!!) with very little variety. The store layout is OK with the clothing section front and center, but everything just feels really compacted. For the essentials, it's a quick and convenient stop...but this Target doesn't allow me the freedom to grocery shop like others. I miss that convenience! read more

This review is solely based on their pharmacy. OUTSTANDING. They are so incredibly on top of things. I have a family member who is on a TON of meds and they are changed frequently. Target has the best pharmacists who are so attentive to our needs. One pharmacist went so far as to offer to deliver meds to our home when we said we might not make it before closing time.. Who does this?? So impressed. I suggest checking out with your other purchases at the pharmacy too since you might get terrible service with the regular cashiers. I don't want to taint this review and write about the front end of the store. read more

Very disappointed with this Target. We're from out of town, walked in the store at 8:37am to be stopped and told the first hour is for elderly people. The store should open an hour earlier for the elderly being their store hours start at 8am. It is false advertisement to state your hours are from 8am-10pm and not allow people in. It's not like you're over crowded of people. Worst store EVER. Will definitely be complaining to corporate! read more

Another chapter in the book of health and safety violations that appears to be the North Shore area Targets. This time, I report to you on behalf of one of my coworkers, who was a bell ringer for The Salvation Army stationed at the Market Basket across the parking lot from Target. My coworker was severely ill after having eaten lunch in the Target Cafe's Pizza Hut. I'm perfectly aware of the corners cut by staff members of the Danvers Target when they think no one is looking, so I can only imagine how lackadaisical the Salem location has to be for someone to suffer a potentially life threatening reaction to the food in their café. read more

Hats off to the target employees. After going to 10 stores to find hand sanitizer and antibiotic wipes a target employee told me last night that a truck was arriving and to come back today. Although at 9:30 am there were few supplies left there were some. Employees and customers were helpful directing me to the correct aisles I got what I needed. I've been here several times and although they seem to have more sale racks then the other Targets I frequent this one is poorly laid out and a bit dark compared to the others. The staff is wonderful, as most Target staffers are and the selection is great but they have a really tiny electronics section and a more confusing layout. They do have a Pizza Hut though which is a definite plus :) read more

I'm walking to the register with my one item and yes I understand they are about to close but a female employee approaches me and says "you have 2 minutes" then walks away. I found the way she said it a bit rude. When I make it to the register prob 8 employees are gathered after the registers pretty much waiting to close and leave. As I put my stuff on the belt the employee I believe his name was Nathan just says "bag?" Without any eye contact. I said no thank you. He doesn't acknowledge me. While I'm trying to use my credit card to pay. A phone rings at the customer service booth not to far away and my cashier Nathan yells at another employee "Answer and hang up" right in front of me. Felt bad for the poor soul calling to prob ask a simple question. After I pay he doesn't say thank you or even make eye contact again. Keep in mind I'm assuming the managers or supervisors were some in the forum standing behind him. Oh and at 10pm on the dot the lights in the entire store are dimmed to uncomfortable hue as if to say get the hell out!. At least that's how I took it. This Target never has more than 2 checkouts open, and needless to say, they need more. Even with the new self checkouts, it still takes forever to checkout. It's small for a Target and they have no grocery section. Mostly I'm reviewing this because they do not change their sale signs ever, so you have to carefully check the small dates printed in the bottom corner, which is misleading and annoying-- their staff is also less than helpful. Although I love Target, I don't have the highest expectations for their service in general, but this one is probably the worst. read more

I am staying with a friend for a few weeks in Salem and needed to go to Target. I live in Boston and have been spoiled by the South Bay Target. I know this and I keep my expectations in check but I will never ever go back to this target. It was a complete mess with boxes and carts of merchandise blocking every aisle. All of the staff were busy talking to each other and never once looked up. I stood in front of the fitting rooms (which were piled with clothes and full of carts) and a woman about 10 feet looked up saw me and then put her head down to keep working. I finally approached her and asked if I should just walk in she barely grunted at me. I've been in targets in many different states and never experienced this- in fact Target is always a comfortable norm when I travel- but not here. Terrible Terrible Terrible. read more

Target has always been the best place to find essentials for my family, like socks and school supplies and I have shopped at a lot of Target stores, but I have to say, honestly, the one in Salem is the worst. Nothing is ever put away on its correct shelf. You never know how much anything costs. The store is dirty. Even on quiet days, the dressing rooms are so full of discarded clothing that you can't hang anything up. They always seem understaffed and they are constantly out of product (though, I bet it is hard to get an inventory of what they have in stock since products are never where they should be). It is very frustrating to shop there, so I will not be returning. read more

The employees in the electronics department are extremely helpful. If I can't find what I need they are always available to assist me.

I am a regular Target shopper and never had a bad experience up until now. I never write bad reviews but did not deserve that type of treatment I received.I won't be going to Target as often. read more

I don't think I've ever been to a Target location where the staff was so unwilling to acknowledge customers. Nor have I been to a location that was so slow to get new products onto their shelves. On top of that, they have the same only-one-or-two-registers-open-at-a-time-regardless-of-how-many-customers-are-waiting policy as every other Target I've ever been to. read more

I like Target. I prefer them over their competitors. This location is small,messy, understaffed and disorganized. They have collections of items in two places (ie laundry detergent is in one aisle... oh wait there's more on the other side of the store!) We only go here since it's closeby. If we are making a dedicated trip to Target specifically and have the time we go to the one at the North Shore Mall. read more

Because Wal-mart is literally next door - this Target is ALWAYS dead. Saturday/Sunday mornings, nights - whenever you want to go. I went in one time and had to ask if they were still open even though the doors were working and the employees wandering around...it's just so deafeningly quiet! I LOVE it. Plus they always have every size...no one is there to buy anything! Go. Go for the groceries, the eye drops, the cheapo clothes, just go for alone time. The parking lot can be trying but it's peaceful inside. I wish they had a Starbucks but it would probably be for just me so I understand why they keep their gross concessions. read more

i'm a super big fan of this target. there are all these hidden clearance gems in most departments on the endcaps closest to the walls. i've tried things i may not have tried if they hadn't been on sale (including the chunky vegetable salsa by archer farms... super good. i'd buy it full price!) and i've found things i actually needed for cheap. awesome. it's pretty large and spread out well. the only place i've ever felt like i was overcrowded was the toy section. i don't need toys though so i guess that's not too bad. it's not set up like every other target ever, but i don't find that all targets are universal anyway. i like the difference because you end up going to sections you don't always frequent. tricky bastids. i want to redo my apartment every time i go in there. they have awesome, fun household items. i'm actually planning a trip back in the next couple days so i can redecorate my bathroom with bright polka-dotted shit. YAY! they have a bunch of designer make-up, including the brand pixi, which i love. it's weird that the coffee shelves are next to the sally hansen nail polish but that's a-ok with me. i do think the movie selection is SLIGHTLY lacking, but i was looking for "can't hardly wait" and that movie hasn't been super popular lately so it was probably a tall order. they did have a ton of movies, though, just not what i needed (and i need this movie). i never have to wait too long in line, which is nice. i can't say the cashiers are super chatty but that's fine. just ring up my crap and let me go. as with all target stores, this place has great prices, very good selection, and is slightly less stressful than wal-mart. love this location. read more

There isn't much about Target that I can say that will change anyones mind. Its Target, plain and simple. I like Target and the prices seem fair. The people who work here could care less about doing their job, it's like they're shocked when you ask them to help you with something. Multiple times now I've tried to buy certain items that they say they can't sell for another three days then why is it out on your floor it's mind-boggling. If there was an option to give this store no stars I would have. The store is a complete mess. The employees are seen throughout the store on their personal cell phones and not helping customers. I was indecisive about changing my phone and Mike at Target Mobile was incredibly helpful. He was not only very knowledgeable about all the products it seems but he was very patient in answering my questions and explaining all the pros and cons for each different phone i looked at. I go to this store at least 3-4 times a month. Today I had the worse experience & I said to myself that I'm not staying quite. Today they had a 25% off home decor. I was going to purchase a bedding & lamp & the sales associate refused to give me the 25%. She said that this was not part of the promotion. Of course I left without purchasing the items. I called the store & spoke to a manager & she agree with me that the sale rep should have given me the 25% off. I really liked this store but the service is terrible. read more

Who doesn't love target? I mean, really. So, I'm not here bragging on the fantastic clothes, bargains, etc. that we all know they have. This specific store is fantastic for their pharmacy. All the pharmacists here are courteous and considerate. The prices are reasonable. I called around and compared to other local pharmacies (including Wal-Mart) and they were the same if not cheaper. They always refill my Rx a few days before I run out (when I'm enrolled in rapid refill) and they call me to let me know it's ready. Recently, I ran out of refills and needed a new script. I called my doc in and was informed that Target had already called for a new Rx to make sure I didn't lapse on my meds. They were way ahead of the game. I did wish this location was a Target Greatland with the food and all. Also, the parking lot is pretty littered all the time. It would be nicer if they could keep it cleaner, but they can't control that people throw their trash on the ground and not in trash recepticals. read more

I am a frequent shopper at our Target, for small household items for our home.Just now, my husband went in and bought an expensive high end product as a gift for our son. When he opened it up at home, it was USED. Dirty, stuff missing in the box, etc.. Why would Target NOT CHECK the box BEFORE putting it back on the shelf?? We ended up ordering it on line. read more
