Couldn't be more pleased. My daughter and I were looking for very specific upholstery fabric and found that and more. Pricing is more than fair. The same fabric that I was about to spend an absurd amount of money on at Calico was there for more than half. If this store doesn't have the fabric; good luck finding it! Every employee I encountered was beyond friendly and helpful. And the second/ third floor furniture and design accessories are bar none. Wide selection of fabrics but terrible customer service in the furniture department upstairs. I was looking for ottomans and settees. Susan began to help me, but when she ran into someone she knew, she completely forgot about me and left me waiting!! When I went to find her, she had bot even tried to search for the catalog of available furniture said she'd show me, because she was yapping it up with this guy. So rude and negligent. Too bad- I was ready to spend a good amount of money, but she missed a huge sale all because she was more interested in talking with her male acquaintance rather than actually doing her job and helping me. read more

Such a fantastic store. I purchased fabric for just one roman shade to be made in a powder room but I was able to find an exact match for my wallpaper. The people in the store are very pleasant and there is such a vast array of options. We are figuring out what we want to do for window treatments in the rest of the house and browsing the selections is great for inspiration. I feel like we'll walk through the store 4 more times before we see all the fabrics and are able to make a decision there are that many choices! read more

I shopped a few months ago for performance upholstery fabric and foam cushioning for the custom window seat in our newly renovated kitchen. I'm a professional designer so I knew I needed performance fabric and wanted something with a more modern texture. I found a great Navy Crypton with a woven texture that is beautiful and was a fair price. They also were able to order the custom size high density foam I was looking for and it was delivered in less than a week. The Crypton is holding up great, showing no stains., and so love that the zip off cover we had made is washable. The staff at Zimmans was were busy but helpful to me in looking for options. I was patient and waited my turn. There was a stunning sofa they had just completed Re-upholstering in velvet that has me very tempted to return soon and have our sofa redone! read more

Zimman's is awesome!! I must have said that at least 14 times to my girlfriend when we left. We went in looking for fabric for curtains for our kitchen windows, we had been to other places and no one comes close to having the amount of selection that Zimman's. Zimman's has a HUGE selection of fabrics, some funky, some older style, some modern, something pretty much for everyone. The prices can be high, but the quality is excellent. Downstairs they have fabrics that have been discontinued or the remains of fabric that was left over, it's worth a look if you only need a little bit. Upstairs on the 2nd and 3rd floor there is a furniture emporium. While we only got to look around for a few minutes, the pieces that they had upstairs were amazing and inspirational. I can't wait to go back to Zimman's, even if it's only to walk around and check out the furniture emporium more. We ended up getting our fabric, and it ended up not costing as much as we thought. After more than 100 years in business, you would think a store that makes draperies would understand what a customer wants when they say they are a light sleeper and asks to have black out curtains made. Blackout being essential. That is not the case with Zimman's. If you're looking to purchase fabric they have a great selection but I strongly recommend you do not use them to make draperies/window treatments. They're expensive and do not listen to what the customer wants read more

I purchased a new dining table and chairs this past weekend- only problem is that the chairs don't exactly match our new decor. My father graciously offered to reupholster the chairs for us, and recommended that I go to Zimman's, as he has had numerous good experiences there. Off I went- I live about 30 minutes away so was a little skeptical as to why I was heading into the heart of Lynn in search of high quality fabrics... but my preconceived notions of the location of the store could not have been more off-base. The store has clearly been around for generations. On the exterior, it looks a little beat up and worn... but open the door and you'll find more fabric than you've ever seen in your life, as well as a multitude of passionate, knowledgable employees who clearly love what they do. I approached one of the salespeople (Christin) and described to her the specifics of what I was looking for (color palette, hoping for something water-resistant for my toddler, etc. etc.). She walked me through all of the options patiently and was really organized and detailed about setting up samples for me to take home and show to my husband, as well as instructions for how to follow-up. We decided on a fabric, I spoke with Christin and she let me know that unfortunately they did not have enough on the roll to satisfy our demand. She could hear the disappointment in my voice and rummaged through the entire store, somehow miraculously locating a few extra pieces of it to satisfy our request. She neatly put together the order for me and someone at the store walked it out to my car. The entire process could not have been more professionally handled with great customer service- I am impressed! Highly recommend working with Christin and the store in general! read more

Zimman's just reupholstered my grandparents couch for me and they did an amazing job. The couch was old, run down, and looked so worn. After visiting their location and picking out the fabric, they explained how long each step would take (ordering the fabric to completing the restoration of the couch). They completely customized the couch for me - it had one long bench cushion when we started and they created 3 cushions. When the fabric was in, they scheduled the pickup and were available for pickup the next day. The pickup/delivery drivers were SO nice, professional, and cautious with the couch..even when taking it out. The couch took 6 weeks to complete, and they called to schedule delivery and were able to come the next day (on a Saturday!). I'm so happy with how everything came out. To top it off, they were able to save so much of the old fabric so I can make pillows with it. They were careful with the fabric to save it even though it takes a lot of extra time. Definitely not inexpensive, but worth the price you pay! Great to have a local and trustworthy business so close by! read more

I worked with Pon, who is wonderful and was extremely accommodating with answering all of my questions and assisting me in finding the best velvet for my project. I had never heard of Zimman's prior to when a designer at Ballard Designs recommending them for upholstery fabric for a banquette we were buying. But after my first experience, I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else. My husband and I arrived there about a half hour before closing, and even though all the sales associates were busy, one of the stopped to point us in the direction of the type of fabric we were seeking. Just before close, another sales associate approached us to see if we had any questions or needed any swatches or whatnot. It turned out to be Daniel Zimman, a 4th generation Zimman! He was so incredibly helpful and stayed past closing to make sure we got everything we needed. But his helpfulness didn't stop there. There wasn't enough of the fabric we liked so he found and sent us similar samples, and then more samples, until we finally honed down one we were happy with. His responsiveness, understanding of fabric color and texture, and friendliness were amazing. I'm so glad I found this place. Try it, you'll be glad too. read more

My Sister and I had 2 pieces of furniture reupholstered at Zimmans in 12/19. The pandemic hit in March. Fast forward to a few months ago (after not being able to visit our Mother for 1 1/2) we noticed a rip in the chair. The rip is under the cushion. When the chair was done they obviously did not leave enough slack in the material. My Mom is the only one who sits in this chair. It is covered with a sheet all of the time. Yes she is Italian. I went into to Zimmans today to speak with someone about the chair. We were told sorry there is nothing that can be done about the situation. It was the manager who we spoke with about this situation. She kept saying if it happen right away that would of been different. We are not sure when it happened because we were unable to visit our Mom. Terrible customer service. Will not go there again for anything. read more

Have you heard the rhyme, "Lynn, Lynn, city of sin, you never come out the way you went in"? It's an old-timey rhyme, but it definitely still applies at least in terms of the fabric world! After visiting Zimman's you will NEVER be able to go to another fabric store without a small amount of disdain. Zimman's has an amazing staff, a huge selection and an outrageous discount basement. For example, today I was casually scouring the Zimman's cotton remants pile and found 3.5 yrds of a Scalamadre fabric for $35 total! Even a decor amateur like me knows that Scalamandre is usually $75/yd and upwards! I felt like I was committing highway robbery! Definitely visit Zimman's, just note that it's NOT open on Sundays. If I could, I'd give 6 stars! I adore this mercantile, for it's a glorious old- timey blast to shop here! I drive 40 miles through Boston traffic (need I say more?) to get a dose of Zimman's. In fact I look for reasons to go. As an interior designer, it's one of my secret resources for in stock low price wide selection of drapery and upholstery fabrics. Very uncomfortable. It seemed everyone was extremely busy -OK- Retail is a demanding trade Until we realized the shop girls were indeed assisting white customers instead of US- People Of color. A white gentleman rebuked 2nd floor furniture woman, regarding my daughter, he asked she was here first why don't u help her? she actually corrected my daughters pronunciation rudely. 1st floor desk also passed my daughter over for a white customer.As I walked towards front of store A white teenager gave me the once over she rolled her eyes up and down at me. The atmosphere permitted this demon child to insult me. I then advised my daughter not spend several thousands dollars in a place that is so unwelcoming. We flew to Mood NYC. read more

Zimman's is like an amusement park or a toy store for any lover of textiles. They have an enormous selection of home decor fabrics including some very high end designs. You'll find anything from Ralph Lauren to Marimeko fabrics here at reasonable prices. Some are VERY expensive fabrics that I would still consider reasonably priced for their quality. This is NOT like a Jo-Ann's which despite their recent addition of more quality home fabrics is still more on the crafty end of the fabric world. Upstairs you will find a selection of upholstered furniture and other decorative items, though a little pricey and for someone with an older taste. Downstairs you will find pillow and foam, but also the bargain fabrics, which are leftovers, discontinued and odd amounts from bolts. GREAT place to look if you only need a small amount of fabric or if you're just looking to experiment. Also good for fabric scraps to make costumes with. Which leads me to the one reason I can't give Zimman's 5 stars - lack of garment fabrics. It's hard to find good garment fabrics around here and I feel like they'd make a killing if they started carrying them. They do have some fabrics that could be used for clothing, but I'd never consider them a store for that, which is their ONLY downside. People come from all over to go to Zimman's which is why it's location always gave me a chuckle. It's been there forever and it makes me laugh sometimes to see these hoity-toity women in expensive cars pull up and ask for drapery fabric for their 50 foot windows in their Martha's Vineyard summer home. The staff, for the most part, is friendly and helpful. I've encountered a few rude older folks that work there, but the younger employees are very helpful. There's a few people I went to high school with that still work there too, and they're all great with customers as well. Check this place out for home decor needs. As for garment fabric, I guess the Internet is still my best resource. read more

If you want rows upon rows... upon more rows, of classic home decor fabric, this is your spot. I had high expectations, maybe too high. There is a wide selection of colors, patterns, and types of fabric, it's just all pretty standard, no unique gems. There was a small selection of some "hipper" fabric but it was thin cotton and not durable enough for what I was going for. So, verdict on the fabric selection: it's probably worth a shot if you're going a more traditional route in your project. The customer service is on the weak side. If the person at the counter is already helping someone else, you're pretty much out of luck for a while. When I finally did talk to someone, she kind of brushed me off onto another staff member who walked the floor. He helped me as well as he could, but I ended up walking out empty handed. I had to go online to find what I needed ultimately. Zimman's is good for what it is, but don't expect the moon and the stars. read more

Would not recommend this family business if you need a listening ear and some friendliness. My mother and I had an appointment but not sure why we made it because there was no one there that helped us. The staff was so not helpful even after asking and having a picture to go by. I recently needed to choose new fabrics for our new kitchen and went to Zimmans hoping to find the perfect fabric to match a new rug as well as the color on the walls. I looked through all the beautiful fabrics on my own, and then was extremely fortunate to have an incredible sales person ask me if I needed help. Not only did she spend at least two and a half hours with me finding many options, on my return visit she spent another 3 hours with me picking out complementary fabric for pillows and cushions. This place is dusty, old, and filled with some fun stuff if you take the time to mill through it. It has virtually anything one would want in this kind of store and you could spend hours there. If it was in a better location with some actual off street parking I think there'd be a bigger draw to it but because of that they've probably lost some ground to other bigger chain stores. I have shopped at Zimman's on multiple occasions and always find the staff to be rude and snooty. The prices are very good so I have continued to go back. However, after my experience yesterday I will never return. I made an appointment with Pat. She seemed put out that I was only buying 10 yards of fabric. I showed her a picture of what I had in mind. She walked me to a row of fabric, picked out 3 different fabrics, and proceeded to tell me that was all they had. At $34+/yd, I wanted to find something I really liked. When I told Pat I wasn't crazy about the 3 fabrics, she reiterated "that's all we have" and she walked me out. I was in the store for four minutes! It took me 40 minutes to get there. If you have ever been to Zimman's, you know there are thousands of bolts of fabric. She just couldn't be bothered. Their loss...they lost a sale but more importantly a longtime customer. read more

I've been a Zimman's fan & customer for ages for their home decor fabrics and fabrication services, and should have written this review a while ago. They have the largest selection of fabrics on-premise in the greater Boston area, hands-down. My first stop in any home decorating project. Extensive manufacturer catalogs if you still can't find what you need. The basement is interesting, with many trims, bolt ends, pillow forms, and hardware. All of their professionals with whom I've worked (such as Susan G, Norma, Pong) have been there for a long time, which means a lot to me for their inventory knowledge, design & fabric estimation savvy, and says that they must love what they do and love working at Zimman's. I have always had a fantastic customer experience (in opposition to an odd August 2021 posting I saw). Whether I'm shopping for my own sewing projects, or an upholstery project, or for a unique curated lamp, this is my go-to! Absolutely worth my trip from Roslindale. read more

Amazing results! I recently had an antique chair and two couches recovered by Zimman's and they came out awesome! They were so much more affordable than other companies I had contacted. Their designer Laura Strowman is awesome, very talented with a ton of patience and fun to work with. Their upholstery shop manager Pon Khun and the delivery team headed by John Cucchiara were all wonderful to work with as well. The two young men on their delivery team - Rafy & Ray - were also such a pleasure so careful with my furniture and not-so-bad on the eyes HaHa.
