I bought a desk and an unfinished bookcase from Bostonwood Furniture and am extremely satisfied. This was my first time purchasing nicer furniture (I was on a grad school budget until recently!) and the experience was great. I currently live in New York City, but I knew I wanted to go with a New England based business since Maine is home for me. I know there are a lot of New England based furniture shops to choose from, but Bostonwood seemed to offer the best value. The sales and delivery staff were all helpful, professional, and friendly. They even finished and delivered my order a little sooner than quoted. The desk is particularly beautiful and feels sturdy and well-built. The unfinished bookcase is just what I was expecting, and is a huge step up from the discount ones I used to buy back in grad school. I'll certainly return to Bostonwood in the future to replace the rest of my silly grad-school-budget particle board furniture!! read more

Great custom work!!! We have worked with Bostonwood before making a peice of furniture for us and were really pleased, so when we decided to add some 'built-ins' to a new addition that we just finished, it was an automatic option that we wanted to check out. Originally I was planning to build everything myself, but after completing a few of the cabinets, I realized that I really didn't have professional finishing capabilities (specifically painting) that we wanted and that it was going to take me way longer than I originally planned, so we took our design to Bostonwood to get a quote. We worked with Mike in the Bedford store. On our first visit, we discussed the project, which involved 2 components (a library wall and wall-to-wall desk) and included some of the custom elements that I wanted to make sure were included in the build. After discussing everything in detail he came back with a quote that was extremely competitive!!!. At the beginning of the process, they delivered a set of CAD drawings and renderings that showed the proposed finished cabinets. They provided us several different color rendering, which helped us visualize even better the finish prooject so we could make the final finish decision. I also asked them to provide a second set of drawings with CAD measurements and details so I could verify the measurements and construction (which they gladly did). We made a few alterations based on the these. The build took a few weeks, during which Mike reached out and kept us informed of the progress. He also took a couple of last minute changes that I realized would be required (fortunately I realized these before they had cut anything) When the product was delivered, the team was extremely polite and brought the peices directly into the new addition space, helping me get them into place. As they were bringing them in, I noticed a small change that required them to take the peices back to the shop, which they were more than happy to do. In the end, when they were re-delivered, we were SO pleased and with them installed are very happy with the finish look they give to this area in our home. They are already in full use and being enjoyed. I would highly recommend them and fully expect to visit their store for our next project. read more

After checking out regular furniture stores, such as Jordan's Furniture, my wife and I drove to Bedford to see what Bostonwood has in stock. The store offers a wide selection across price points and types of wood. I saw items for multiple price segments. Bw is actually a hybrid store, offering both finished and unfinished products. My wife wanted some simple pine bookcases. Bostonwood had several inexpensive ones right on the floor. Note: They will build custom items for anyone, too. The clerk on duty this Saturday morning was very helpful and understood right away what we were looking for. We went to Bostonwood to have a custom-sized bookshelf made. In the store, it was easy to talk through measurements and options and see examples. Within a day of our visit and order, we were emailed a CAD drawing of the asymmetrical L-shaped bookshelf for approval (it was exactly as discussed and imagined, but so great to be able to see it to confirm). It was delivered on time (well, maybe it took 7 weeks instead of the estimated 6?), assembled in place as promised, and was wonderful quality. Would absolutely go there again. I ordered a slightly customized slat bed frame and headboard here. They were the ONLY place I could find that had a design for a headboard that would stand flat against the wall *above* a baseboard heater, and in my no-wiggle-room Somerville apartment, it makes an incredible difference. I chose the design with built in shelves, which are wonderful, too. Everyone I dealt with was so friendly, service was quick, and time estimates were spot on. Delivery and assembly in my home (they did it) was professional and fast. I've had the set for a couple years now and it is still rock-solid, even with my 200-lb-ish husband enthusiastically flinging himself down upon it (I mean we're talking literally JUMPING on it) daily. I've been buying furniture from this company since the 80s. This time around, I bought two bookcases. The quality is excellent and the customer service was fine. The prices are competitive. My only complaint is it took over two weeks to fill the order, which was longer than promised. read more

I have patronized this business a couple of times over the last five years and found it overpriced. However, I don't know many places that will build low cost wood products in the sizes I have needed, so I have gone ahead and purchased some bookcases and even ordered a small side buffet at one point. I was willing to overpay to get the size I needed. Today, I went in with a request for a custom-made portable countertop. The woman was so rude and impatient with me. I took some extra seconds to retrieve some information from my phone as well as a photograph to help explain my request. The woman treated me as if I was wasting her time and then chided me for referencing the depth of a wood panel as the width. She then quoted me an insane price. As a potential customer, let alone a returning customer, I was so disappointed to be treated this way, in front of my daughter no less. My daughter commented to me she wondered why the woman was so rude. I will never give this store my business again. read more

They do a good job, but the wait is a long time. Probably about 20% higher than products should cost. For custom work they're worth their money. For a standard shelf though, probably not so much... I would go back if I had something tricky. read more

I ordered a pub table here and left a chair to match the staining of the table with. The guy at the store the day I ordered it told me it would take 2-3 weeks. During the general conversation he told me this wasn't the busy season, I had beat "the rush". I called a week and a half later to see if it would be done by the two week mark. The man I spoke with said it would be in by the end of the week (fri/sat) and that they would call. I called Saturday, he said it wasn't in they were so busy with deliveries and that he would call and let me know what day it would be at the store. He never called, I called again and got the same story about deliveries being an issue. I called AGAIN 3 weeks later, he said it wasn't ready and that it would be ready Saturday or Sunday. After pressing him he says that we can pick the table up if we want but that it would be sticky from humidity. What?!?! First it was a delivery issue then a drying issue. So, 3 1/2 weeks later we pick up the table. They didn't screw in the top because they didn't know what kind of vehicle we had. They couldn't have asked us that during one of the MANY calls I made about the table? So now we have to borrow a drill. I took the stool out front to wait for my husband to pull up. As I'm standing outside a man in the store decides to being the bottom half of the table out and banged it against the door, ridiculous! I didn't see any marks but as we put the table into our vehicle a chunk falls off leaving a completely unstained portion on the $330 table that we JUST GOT! Since it was a custom stain (that isnt even close to matching) there is nothing to put over the stain that matches. Also, I find it weird that there is no stain under the top layer of wood. So, overall the customer service is HORRIBLE, our brand new table is chipped, and I will never be back. read more
