Our little town of Winthrop (by the sea...so we're reminded to say...more like "by the airport", but I digress) is cheering over this fun, fabulous shop in the town center. Great jewelry by local artists, ceramics from Italy, candles from France and a lovely selection of baby gifts for folks like me that don't want the baby, but love to shop for the ones we know. Next time you drop someone off at Logan, or just have an itching for something different, drive 5 minutes beyond the airport and check this shop out. It's sandwiched between the local pizza joint and a nail salon, but it wouldn't be Winthrop if it wasn't.

BD's Discount.. what can I say about this place…read more It's dark, it's musty, it's full of cheap Chinese-made products... but it's hella cheap. BD's is similar to an Ocean State Job Lot, where some of it is closeouts, some of it is new merchandise, and they have a wide variety of products. BD's carries furniture, beds, housewares, bedding, kitchen stuff, hardware, food, electronics. A real mix of products. Most of the stuff is cheap knock offs made in China, but hey three bucks for a 6ft HDMI cable. Yes Please. I typically just go in there and look around as they are adding new products, so it changes from week to week what they have in stock. Pro's 1. CHEAP. If you're strapped for cash and you don't care that it might break in a year or so. then this is the place for you. 2. Furnture. Yes they sell furniture. Some of it isn't all that bad. They also sell beds too 3. Convenient. This location is located right on Broadway in Chelsea. So its walkable from anywhere. 4. Selection. Lots of a variety of products to choose from. Con's 1. CHEAP. This is a Con too. Because "you do get what you pay for" when you shop here. I bought a cheap set of knives for 10 bucks and two handles have already snapped off! 2. Chinese Made. A lot of the products are made overseas in China, Taiwan, etc, so its very cheaply made. And The toys are not kid-friendly as they may contain lead in them. 3. Messy. Some times the store gets messy (if they were busy). Since it is 3 floors of stuff, I'm sure its hard to clean up all of it. I've just seen entire aisles just torn apart by someone who was looking for something. 4. Selection. This is a con too, as it isn't Target or KMart where they have just about everything, BD's items are 'off the truck" so one week they may have something, and then not have it again. As far as the staff.. I've never really had a problem except with a language barrier (where the cashier's English wasn't as proficient as mine). BUT Staff are always nice and polite and are willing to help you if you need it. Other than that, I like BD's, I'm sure I'll be back soon.

Being a small business they probably called to let her know about the delay, right? Nope. Also part of the order were some framed pictures. It's now after the 4th of July and no sign of either. But updates from the store, right? Nope. To make matters worse, the salesman Keegan, is one of the rudest customer service people ever. When my wife would call for updates (because the store doesn't give any), he would say the delay is no big deal, and he doesn't know why she was upset. Really? Since there wasn't even an estimated delivery date come Father's Day, the store put together a gift basket. Any time my wife asked for an update after that, they would refer to the gift basket, as if this had righted all wrongs. The bombshell is that the owner of this establishment is complacent in this. After weeks of delays my wife asked for a call from the owner. Keegan the sales person said, "it's the weekend." Thanks for the calendar update. Over a week later, still no word from the owner. We love supporting small businesses and were excited to outfit our new home from this store (and told them so). But after getting 2 out of 5 things after 3 months and being told that we are the problem by the sales staff, there is just no reason to shop here.

I ended up with a small Abundant Valley, which has jasmine and Lily of the valley notes. I can't wait to burn it and I hope it has good throw. Staff was very friendly. I'm looking forward to returning.

They have dressing rooms in the back too. The employee was friendly and welcoming but gave us our space to just look around. I ended up buying a plate which had cute lobsters on it.
