I found myself shopping at this Alexandria Virginia area Walmart while on vacation. Sometimes, meals coming from a supermarket and even Walmart is cheaper than eating out at restaurants. Just happened to kill some time after arriving, so I popped into this Walmart to see what deals and bargains were to be had here. I spent about an hour browsing the store, focusing on mostly grocery items and food that can be eaten right away without refrigeration or microwaved. I feel like Walmart sells a lot of these items daily for many of their customer base. With that said, I was here around 6pm on a chilly Wednesday afternoon in March 2026. Walmart usually is very competitive with the usual supermarkets, so I could get something for my money. I did just that. I chose what I wanted after weaving around the larger than life store and promptly proceeded to the checkout, where I paid for my stuff and got out. I enjoyed this Walmart very much because they are familiar to me and they sell many items that I typically use in daily life when I'm not traveling. I frequent Walmart when I can because it can have a lot of the everyday items for sale that everyday people need on a daily basis. The beauty of Walmart is that they try to be that one stop shop for many people in the local area and for those who are passing thru as well. It's also very budget friendly for anyone who shops here. I am blessed that this Walmart is located within walking distance from my Airbnb here in Alexandria. If you're staying in Alexandria and need supplies for your life, consider coming and shop. Walmart is the best for competitive prices for sure. The overall experience here at this Walmart store in Alexandria, Virginia was very good and very quiet. It was rush-hour on a Wednesday evening in DC and Alexandria and definitely was nice to be able to be shopping here as a tourist and not be hurried by the hustle and bustle of the DC daily commute. I enjoyed my time here especially because it was relaxed and quiet. The Walmart is typically large and has plenty of walking space for anyone - customer or staff, to move around the sales floor. The ambiance was good and it felt good to be here, especially because it was still winter time in March 2026. I spent about an hour here shopping and finding what I needed for my weeklong trip in Alexandria. For the most part though, finding this Walmart within walking distance from my Airbnb was amazing, a godsend, and definitely worth coming here for a low budget stay in Alexandria, Virginia. If you're staying nearby and want your stay to be as cost effective as possible, consider coming to the local Walmart at the Mount Vernon Crossroads Mall. Like all Walmarts, this one also has your basic necessities as well, food and other stuff. If you love a bargain, come here! My experience here at this Alexandria area Walmart was short, typical, and sweet. I Found what I was looking for and paid for my purchase, and was off to the Airbnb for the night. I wandered around the store enough to find what I was looking for. I did not need assistance from the Walmart staff. Most of everything at Walmart is basically self service, Which I enjoy. Only problem with that is taking time to look for it, which is not so hot. Still, my experience here at this Walmart was good since I'm trying to vacation on a budget while being able to vacation and adult at the same time. This Walmart is physically situated in Alexandria, Virginia inside the Mount Vernon Crossroads Mall outlet. It's physically located 7910 Richmond Highway in Alexandria. They accept major credit cards as well as cash, as all Walmarts do. There is a Subway restaurant nearby, though I wished that it was inside the Walmart versus elsewhere. As far as parking goes, they have a large and generous parking area for y'all who drive. If you're like me, public transportation is available (DC metro and other public buses) for anyone and everyone who wishes to come into the Alexandria area from anywhere in the DMV triangle. And of course, there's Uber and Lyft and Empower at your convenience. If you're looking for daily essentials and meal preparation ideas, you can consider coming here for all the things you'd possibly need here at Walmart. Walmart is quintessential the best thing that happened to compete with others in the shopping space. Costco is nearby but Walmart is competitive to bring customers like me who value quality and prices while having that convenience covered on a day to day basis. Shopping here at this Alexandria Walmart was good and definitely worth coming here. Takes all the guest-work of being a tourist in these parts to make sure that traveling on a budget remains inside the budget and not blowing up the bank. Very poor service at the "customer service" counter. I went there to get a money order the Somalian/East African woman/ wearing an abaya. She didn't even acknowledge my presence initially making me wait for 5-10 minutes to complete whatever it was she was doing. There was also another customer behind me waiting to be served. I didn't know that a debit card was required to pay for a money order but she made sure that no only I knew that but all the other Walmart shoppers as well - by stating their policy very loudly. I prefer this Walmart to one that's closer to me. I think this one is better organized and has a better abundance of products. The parking lot is ample sized. I also think the aisles are wider here and therefore less congested. Since the time difference is only 5 or so minutes, I'll continue to visit this location for a less stressful experience. read more

I did not realize you had to list how many plastic bags you used to put your groceries in...never had that dilemma in a store. We just went for flu and Covid booster shots. We asked and we're directed to the pharmacy, were greeted by a tech within seconds and got both shots easily and quickly. Key was registering online with the vital information needed. It took less than 30 min for 2 of us to each get two shots. The pharmacist couldn't have been nicer nor the tech. Thank you. Be extremely cautious using their self-checkout system. It will ask you whether or not you want a printed receipt. ALWAYS GET A PRINTED RECEIPT. Walmart has a track record of accusing people who mistakenly forget to scan an item, or for whom the system did not register an item, of theft. If you do not have a printed receipt, you will have no way of defending yourself. ALWAYS COMPARE THE ITEMS TO WHAT IS LISTED ON THE RECEIPT BEFORE YOU WALK OUT THE DOOR. Why does this establishment say it takes Apple Pay when the employees there informed me that they don't? It's a Walmart. This one can be extremely busy. Due to its location, please watch out for other traffic, as it's a matter of volume. Had to go in here yesterday for snacks. Glad they had them all, including fruits for our football team. Yet the challenge of crowds, was well it was an interesting experience. All Wally Worlds have this, and the "People of Walmart." Never a full moment. This one does have a lot. Their camping and fishing section, is better than most of their locations. That's due to the Potomac and other places close by. They have bait and also spoons, along with other things that'll attract fish. Parking isn't easy, but it was on a Saturday. This area is well developed, although maybe too fast. Had the craziest experience at this Walmart. My husband bought a microwave a few days ago -- a white Hamilton Beach one. Today when he went to open it, a used, old black microwave was in the box. The box itself definitely looked a little beat up, but it was the only white microwave left in the aisle when my husband went to get one, so he had to take it. I went into this Walmart with the receipt and explained the whole story -- because obviously there is some sort of a quality control or fraud issue going on here that they sold us a $77 microwave and we got someone's old, used microwave which was not even the same color OR brand as on the box. They refused to refund our money, told us repeatedly that they "didn't sell that brand" and couldn't take it back, and refused to investigate further, take down our information, etc. Unreal. I actually can't make sense of it. They continued to imply that we were the ones trying to return an old microwave and that they didn't sell it to us. I even showed them a photo of my existing old white microwave we were trying to replace to no avail. They pulled the tapes and told me they saw my husband purchasing the microwave but told us they couldn't take the tapes back further to look for how the box got there in the first place because it would be like "finding a needle in a haystack." Go to the other Walmart up Route 1. This one is shady and we just paid $77 for someone else's old microwave. read more

Truly terrible pickup experience. Checked in as we pulled up and the order immediately changed to Picked Up. An associate (Kiki) came with items that weren't from our order--was talking on her cell phone for most of the interaction, ignoring our explanations that these were not the items we were charged for. She said they were out of the items they said were fulfilled but offered no solution. She eventually agreed to refund the order which was an ordeal. My husband went into the store and found all the items on the shelves that she claimed they were out of but had still charged us for. read more

I stopped in here on 2-5-2023. What was I thinking? THIS place!! Crowded. Very industrial. Very international. Very suspect!! Felt like I could have turned in a number of customers and received a reward!! No dress code, meaning that the people were dressed worse than your typical shopper. I figured that I would get a few cleaning items. I did, but it took a minute because of how the store was laid out. ILLOGICAL!! Check-out was rather protracted because there was a cashier change exactly when I was ready to check out. Prices were about the same as in any other store. This was truly an eye-opening experience!! Don't send your prescription here. We've had numerous bad experiences at the pharmacy over the years but this time, I need to rant. I called before 6pm to make sure my prescription is ready. I was told it should be ready before they close at 7pm. My mom had to rush and came there at 6:30pm. Only to be told the prescription is not ready and they close in 30 minutes. They said they can't help her and has to come back tomorrow. They're not even close yet so why can't they assist her? My bad I did not get the name of the person I talked to. My mom was trying to get the name of that lazy lady but they wouldn't give it to her. They could've told us right away if they couldn't get it ready today when I called them. I couldn't possibly imagine that today March 10th, 2021 would be the epitome of Walmart living up to its stereotype in every negative way possible. The parking lot was obliterated, it felt like I was playing Tunnel Runner TM with shopping carts as obstacles in the parking lot. Trash was littering every square inch of the facility. I stepped on a piece of gum smooshed into a crumpled receipt. Great to see the facilities being managed with the utmost care. The worst part was the actual shopping, and the customer service. It's really amazing when someone who is quad lingual, such as myself, can't find a single associate to answer, "where is the bathroom?" I've mentioned this to one of the evening managers, Ben, multiple times. Each time, he and the management staff reluctantly agree with me - that more registers should be open at closing to allow customers to exit the store as quickly as possible. This is an ongoing issue, however. It makes no business sense. If your goal is for customers to leave as close to closing (11pm) as possible, directing all but one of your cashiers to be operational at 11pm defeats that very purpose as it creates an unnecessary log jam of customers waiting to check out. Additionally, there is no store in America that fails to staff there cashiers at least 30 minutes beyond the closing time - with the expectation that there will be customers who still need to check out at or shortly after closing. This is clearly a failure of leadership, business acumen, and lack of understanding. This is either being condoned or taught by the Store Manager - and I'm sure this is not in line with Walmart's corporate policy. read more

This Walmart is just okay. It is fairly large. I didn't need an employee, which was good since I didn't see many of them. There were two employees by the dressing rooms. I feel like when Im There I'm the hardest working employee because no one is ever around to help you find something. There is never any people to check you out so the self check out is always like 20-30 people deep. Idk what they are going to do if all the self check out machines call out. In many of those cases, the names were neither complimentary nor appropriate for a family-friendly Yelp review, but it is all the same...it's Wal-Mart! I have to say that I usually don't shop at Wal-Mart, but when I need some of the basics (i.e. laundry detergent, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc.), I'll venture into the Land of Sam Walton. The Wal-Mart at 7910 Richmond Hwy is one of those Wal-Marts that all of the bad names seem somehow appropriate. It's a sad, cluttered store in seeming disrepair that harkens back to Wal-Marts "days of yore", not the modern, glistening, mega-mart that represents today's Wal-Mart and the feeding of American consumerism and mass consumption. On this trip, there weren't enough checkout lines and no "express" lines, that I could tell, were open so the lines were long. In addition, only two of the four self-check lines were fully operational so even if you wanted to buy one or two things you were pretty much left to holding the proverbial bag. I came to the store to return a $20 scooter and I didn't have my receipt. I asked for store credit the customer service rep was rude and as well as the manager. Horrible experience. I still made my purchases but I will never come here again. Once again Walmart never fails with another horrible experience. I haven't been in a hood Walmart since Philly. I think those Fairfax Walmarts have spoiled me a little. I think some of the products on there at counterfeit. I've purchased some products in different stores but the same products in this Walmart look different. For example, the Shea Moisture brand products do not look real to me. Their black soap is a weird brown color and consistency. I didn't buy it but I will let the Shea Moisture people know in cause someone is knocking off their product and Walmart is allowing it. Sad. Customer service is deplorable. One star is being way too generous. I ordered some things online for pickup yesterday (around 6:00PM). The prompt said it would take approximately 4 hours for same day pickup so I gave them until the next day until I was ready to come get my items. I woke up the next morning and still received no confirmation. Come to find out, they never placed the order. Now I have a hold on my account and I'm over it. Called to cancel it so we'll see how this goes. But it did take about 45 minutes to get transferred to customer service, so prepare for that if you ever have to call. Make sure you clear your schedule to get in contact with customer service at this store. I hate this place. read more
