I had a great experience at Trader Joe's in Old Town and wanted to give a special shoutout to Nathan for the outstanding customer service. I originally came in to make a return, and he processed it very quickly and smoothly with no hassle at all. Later on, I ended up going through his checkout line, and he was just as friendly and helpful. He even took the extra step to make sure the orchid I purchased was packed securely so it would make it home safely. It's small touches like that that really stand out and make a difference. Shopping there felt easy and welcoming, and Nathan made a simple trip to the store feel like a great experience. Customer service is everything at the end of the day, and it means a lot to me to go to a store and receive genuinely good service. Because of that, I will definitely be back. You really can't go wrong with Trader Joe's. The prices are competitive and the food quality is consistently good. Most items are Trader Joe's brand, and a lot of them honestly beat big-name brands. The frozen snacks are excellent overall, with only a few misses, and you can't go wrong with the spices, meat, or coffee. One thing I really like is that you can actually ask a crew member to open a snack so you can try it right there. If you don't like it, no worries at all. The produce is fresh, and the staff keeps the store well stocked and easy to shop even if it's crowded. The ambiance feels like a small local grocery store, which makes shopping there more enjoyable. The staff is friendly and incredibly helpful, and Trader Joe's easily has the fastest baggers of any grocery store. Depending on what you're making, you might need to stop at a larger store for a few specialty items, but I can usually handle my full weekly grocery run here. read more

Finally went to TJs over in Old Town. I'm really more an Aldi, Wegmans, and Whole Foods guy myself, but there's this mushroom pizza that a friend of mine turned me on to that I've decided to go and get for myself. The store is designed with Old Town street names rather than lane numbers for all the registers. Quite a whimsical touch. The registers move quickly and there is a facilitator that makes sure the line moves fluidly, so the facilitator guy yells out street names rather than lane numbers to direct you to the next available register. Service is super friendly. Parking is underground like Old Town Whole Foods which I'm not particularly a fan of. All you have to do is look around at all the scratches on the cement columns to see why. People scratch your car up in those tight underground spaces too. Looks like I'll be adding TJ to my grocery stops though, albeit occasionally. read more

I start at the Frozen Dinners. Indian, & Chinese. These are BETTER than I get at Indian restaurants. Typically about 5-6 $, You cannot go wrong. Butter Chicken for those who can't take spices. Various Vindaloos for those who like spice. Their KungPao chicken is also to die for- it comes in a larger bag (serves four+ easily for under 10$). There is a lot of "organic" stuff, I used to patronize the one in Sterling. Parking was a problem, but inside the store (inc. checkout) was superfast;. Kudos to the manager of that store, which keeps enough registers open to keep the lines down to a maximum of one person in front of you. read more

I typically come to TJs to pick up flowers and snacks. However, since I live downtown, I've grown used to tight spaces when shopping so this location felt like a sprawling treat. The flower section was ample and I loved the layout of the store. Inventory wise, it was pretty much the same but the extra space really made the items all seem more visible to me. I also love that there is a spacious parking lot as well that I did not need validation for. Customer service as usual was on point and the store was clean and well organized. First time visiting this TJ location. I visited on a Friday morning when the crowd would be small. Parking in the garage is free for up to 90 minutes. Not a huge store (which I like) and it's easily navigable assuming you know what you are looking for in each section. I was prepared to find various vegan items that I heard rave reviews about that were sold here. Luckily I was able to find them all! If Disney built a grocery store, it would be this Trader Joe's--complete with a queue that does a full victory lap around Produce before high-fiving Frozen Foods. The line looks terrifying, like a cinnamon-roll of humanity, but it moves with the precision of a well-rehearsed flash mob. Blink and you're at the registers, being greeted by the famously cheerful crew who narrate your cart like color commentators at the Super Bowl. "The strawberries are so red!" "I love milk, what do you drink it with?" "Someone has a sweet tooth today!" It's part compliment, part therapy. By the time you've paid, you feel emotionally validated and slightly famous. Entrance tip: watch the tourists attempt the Great Door Puzzle. Despite the arrows pointing to the actual entrance, there's always a small group tugging valiantly on every clearly-not-it door like it's an escape room with sourdough at the end. Consider it pre-shopping entertainment. Inside, it's the usual TJ's magic (and newly remodeled): shelves of snacks you didn't know you needed, flowers that trick you into believing you have your life together, and frozen dinners that whisper, "You cooked." Add in staff who will discuss cookie butter pairings like somms talk tannins, and it's genuinely delightful. Yes, the line wraps the block. Yes, the doors are a decoy obstacle course. My favorite Trader Joes among all others in the area. I can always find what I want here and the lines are not too busy

I had kids and my priorities changed. I am now a fan of Trader Joe's and appreciate the affordable convenience that they offer. I would never have purchased frozen organic brown rice if I didn't go to PTA meetings and come home at 7:30 pm panicking about what I can feed a bunch of kids in 20 minutes. Trader Joe's makes this easier to do, and for that reason, I am thoroughly addicted. Not only that, TJs has the best employees. They always put a smile on my face, ask me about my family, and give out lollipops and stickers to the kiddies. My biggest complaints are: that they temporarily and/or permanently discontinue beloved items for sometimes ridiculous seasonal and/trendy products (generally less volume and lower quality). This makes me sad. Beyond that, they tend to be cramped and crowded, which doesn't make for leisurely shopping trips. I would avoid on weekends if possible, as you likely will have to wait in a long line to enter the parking garage. I guess a lot of us are addicted. read more

I love Trader Joe's more than I can explain. I have only ever been to two locations and this is my fave. So many cool food items to try and such friendly staff. For the food, only downside is I miss items when they go away:( But there are always fun new items that pop up! The staff is awesome. I don't know many names, unfortunately, but many have been there for a long time. There is a wonderfully friendly (and helpful) employee with a ponytail that always stops what he is doing to chat about football, but is also super helpful with the products. There is also a really nice guy in the wine area in the morning. Always helpful and kind. And then of course, Bob at check out. He's super friendly. Great store. I always go during the week, but once went during the weekend and it was crazy busy. Recommend going on a weekday if possible. read more

Yesterday was my very first haul at Trader Joe's. (I remember going once or twice for cookie butter years ago, but don't recall buying anything else.) I racked up! I got my wines (because...wine not!?). I got my spreads, sauces, seasonings and such. I got flowers (beautiful strawberries and cream Hydrangeas). I got my side dishes, juices and some buttery croissants that I cannot WAIT to devour. I even grabbed a few bottles of citrus hand sanitizer. I was literally just throwing shit in my cart. The store was nice and clean. The service was great. The selection was plentiful, as if they'd just restocked the shelves. (Maybe they knew I was coming, lol) It was a late Sunday afternoon, so that was a concern. **Thanks to COVID-19, social distancing methods are in full effect. However, the line wasn't too long and neither was the wait. There's free parking and the garage, which is on the same level -- so that's super convenient. read more

A good place to shop in Alexandria. Trader Joe's is a popular grocery store that offers quality products. The store idea was born in 1958 as a small chain of Southern California convenience stores opened by a drugstore executive named Joe Coulombe. They changed their name in 1967 and as of January 2024, there were around 564 Trader Joe's stores across the United States with several in the DC area. This particular store is located at the corner of Asaph and Pendleton Streets in Alexandria. It has a parking lot that is right out one of the store doors. There are a limited number of parking spaces inside the building but seemed enough on the day that I visited. The store entrance had displays outside in the parking area. The store was well-lit and busy but, for the amount of traffic, it was amazingly clean and well-stocked. It is a small store but seemed to have a good selection of items from fruit to wine with gluten-free as well as other dietary options. Checkout utilized a line and one of the staff members directed you to one of the many open lanes. Prices are higher than some other stores like Publix but for the economy, location, and quality they are reasonable. Overall, it was a pleasant shopping experience in the heart of Alexandria. read more

This was my first time ever to Trader Joe's! Oh boy have I been missing out. I love that they have a parking garage attached and I did not have to struggle with street parking. Every employee I encountered was extremely friendly. It was truly nice to see that , everything in the store was quite affordable and not overly expensive. I can say the store is small, which is a good and bad thing however, some people did not have store etiquette, which made my shopping experience a little crazy but not unmanageable. All the items that I've purchased and tried so far have been great and I can definitely see myself being a regular at Trader Joe's. read more

Rearranged the store. Not a lot of thought to this change. Very poor traffic flow around the meat and the cheese area Reduced number of some products, scattered bread and baked goods. A couple soups here and there , pasta area broken up. Nuts and fruit in front of meat area . Not as many products . Disappointing. Lots of people working . Clip board person moving around check out . First time coming to Trader Joes and I really liked what they had to offer! Had to wait in line to get into the store, but the line moves pretty fast! I found that there were so many different food options that I found myself getting slightly overwhelmed by it all LOL definitely a store I would need to go to again and take my time sifting through the various food options. The aisles of the store is a bit small, but everyone shopping is quite polite and the workers are very friendly and are eager to help you find what you may be looking for. My cashier was a gentleman named Kwame who was so funny, we cracked a lot of jokes during my transaction, his energy is great. The cherry on top is that they have a garage that is free to park in, so I will most definitely be a regular at this grocery store! read more

This location is across the street from a Vietnamese restaurant; walking distance from many of Old Towns residential and commercial buildings. The neighborhood has a high walking score and everyone knows each other. There is plenty of under ground parking with the usual mini and standard red carts out front(not in the parking lot like some stores). The four major lanes are packed on Sunday so if crowds aren't your thing shop Monday - Wednesday. I especially enjoy the Sunday afternoon wine tastings and cute bites towards produce next to the free mini coffee. The lines are long but quick and everyone is drowning in smiles and good vibes. read more

This is a rather interesting location. If you are not paying attention you could miss half of the store. The fresh fruit section is literally in the far back of the store. It is also a busy location. There were literally people everywhere! Considering the amount of foot traffic at this location the shelves were still fully stocked and ripe for the picking. It was nice to see they had a checkout traffic controller directing customers to the check out lines that paid homage to some of the streets in Alexandria. From the fresh flowers and the front door to the fresh fruit in the back, whatever you are looking for you are sure to find it!!! I love a good seasoning!!!! Imagine my excitement to find the very seasoning I was looking for!!! Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning!!! Parking is better on the street however there is a parking garage with validated parking as an option as well. I wanted to provide a special shout out to Emmaline, who is one of the most enthusiastic people I've met here. She is extremely helpful, will always recognize a regular of Trader Joe's, and is just very bubbly all around. I am very happy to have met someone like her as she makes my visit to Trader Joe's a lot more entertaining! There are employees constantly restocking here which is great! I usually have luck finding what I need here, but whenever I don't see something, I end up asking the employees and everyone is always so willing to help. The work culture here seems wonderful. This is a great store. For years everyone has been so cordial and helpful. It deserves five stars! One thing. I would not buy any of the mini-ice cream cones here. I've shopped in other Trader Joe's stores and they are fine - the cones are crunchy. But I'm sure at this store the ice cream cones are left out too long when stocking and are allowed to melt. I literally got hit by a car and walked in to Trader Joe's immediately after because I needed detergent and dang it I wasn't gonna go home without it. Not only did some random lady offer me a ride home afterwards, but Kat who was my cashier ran outside in the rain and gave us roses. Not your typical grocery store with a wildly interesting variety of foods from around the world...just like any other Trader Joe's. This one is unique (aren't they all) because it's located in historic Old Town Alexandria, VA. George Washington literally lived a half mile away before he acquired Mount Vernon (though I doubt he shopped here). Robert E. Lee also grew up a few hundred yards away from the store. Enough history! Like most Trader Joe's, they have a pretty good wine selection, including the infamous "Two Buck Chuck" that is more than two bucks now...but still worth the price. read more

This location of Trader Joe's is my favorite in the DC Metro area. It's near Old Town Alexandria and is large compared to the DC Trader Joe's. They always have free samples throughout the store and rarely run out of product. There's validated parking too. A few favorites: 1) Chicken tikka masala, naan, and chutney: A perfect, cheap lunch! 2) Wine: They have a wide range of cheap, good wine. 3) Milk chocolate with hazelnuts: It's so good! Absolutely love going to Trader Joe's. This location has a very kind and helpful staff that are always busy work but will drop what they are doing to assist you with a bug smile on their face. They have a great selection of goods that I can't find anywhere else and only go to Trader Joe's to get. By the way, please bring back the frozen Mexican blackbean and cheese enchiladas. They've been a favorite of mine for a long time. The only downside is that they are always busy and crowded, which is great for business but a bit frustrating when you're trying to get in and out. However, the long line to the cashier always goes very quickly. You guys are very efficient there. Keep up the great work!! read more
