Brisket is presliced, scooped up, and put into a styrofoam box. The medium coleslaw was small. There were yummy slices of cakes and pies everywhere that looked tempting, but there was no expiration date on them. Who knows how long they have been sitting there. When I returned home and tried the brisket, it was some of the saddest I have ever had. No flavor. No smoke ring. No crust. Threw most of it away. Pass on this place. Never again! read more

It was really, really pouring down rain and I needed to stop for gas on the way to Austin. With only myself and two kids, it can be tricky getting gas, going potty, getting food and everything in the rain. The cashier at the deli counter was very helpful and nice. Very sweet sauce and very fatty brisket. The baked beans are pork&beans with again sweet BBQ sauce. Tater salad was the only good thing. Also very pricey for what you get. Brisket tasted like it was oven cooked. The meats are precut held in warmers. A real BBQ place has a meat cutter. Stopped here and got gas on the way back to Houston and couldn't resist the wonderful smell of fresh BBQ coming from the pit outside. Normally I pay outside at the pump but because of the smell I decided to wait and pay inside. When I got inside I found the inside to be quite large and clean with the BBQ being sold on the left hand side of the store. They have quite a large selection of meats and even bacon/jalapeño wrapped quail. I ended up getting a sample togo plate of sausage, pulled pork and brisket with a couple quail eggs as well. I was not expecting much from a gas station BBQ seller, but I was very surprised. Since the was over 10 deep I should not have been though. The sever was very helpful and patient since I had no clue what to get. Didn't wait long to check out even though there were plenty people in line. All the BBQ was juicy, tender, and very flavorful, the quail dry and over cooked. Couldn't ask for more especially since this is a gas station BBQ joint. The spicy BBQ sauce I opted for was not overly salted or spicy. There are quite a few other BBQ gas stations in the area and I will have to try them out to see if any others can compare. Colorful signage in this fuel-station cum bbq joint convinced us to pull in for a refill and a smoked meat power snack. Despite that the large bbq pit shed adjacent to the store spewed out clouds of smoke, the food lacked flavor. The counter lady had run out of beef and had to fetch a foil-covered pan of brisket. This ensured that the fresh "cooked" brisket emerged from the pan tasting, smelling and looking like steamed roast beef. Dry and bland stuff rated below sandwich grade--and I could see why other patrons were drowning their brisket in sauce. My portion of brisket went straight to the dogs after the first bite. A side order of deviled eggs were generic-tasting, giving us little faith in the rest of the menu. I've been coming here for years, and after moving away to LA, look forward to coming back. Something has changed, though. I had thought this might be one of those iconic Texas BBQ places in a small town but was disappointed. I got the two meat plate with brisket and ribs and my usual sides of potato salad and green beans. I could say maybe the ribs were a plus, the rest, ehh. The brisket lacked the bark around the edge, almost felt like it was cafeteria style. The flavor was okay, but not much to write home about. Ribs were a bit better, but well below what I've been accustomed to in Houston. The green beans were very average, not much better than you'd get out of a can. The potato salad was if nothing unique. Heavier egg taste than I've ever had. I didn't mind it, just different. The service timely was extremely friendly both at the food service point, then at payment (which is at the main store register). Atmosphere is travel stop, but plenty of tables to sit and eat, nothing wrong with that. It's very convenient off of 290 and back on. While driving back from seeing bluebonnets, we really wanted some BBQ. Waller County Line BBQ to the rescue. I has the chopped beef plate with the spicy bbq sauce and two sides: the potato salad and the beans. The sides were good - the beans were great and the potato salad was solid, thankfully without too much mayo. The chopped beef and spicy sauce were fantastic - the sauce isn't too spicy, but has a nice, subtle kick and tang. It went really well with the meat. The beef was tender and there was lots of it. I had a food baby for the rest of the afternoon. I have a lot more bbq to eat, but Waller County Line BBQ is now my gold standard for tasty bbq. read more

The amount of food you get for the cost isn't proportionate. The service varies depending on who's helping you; the gentleman that helped me just gave me BBQ sauce while the lady helping the person behind me asked if they wanted regular or hot bbq sauce and white or wheat bread. BBQ places are like churches in Texas. No matter what part you are in there is one on every corner or in a gas station. Every area has their "famous" must try place too. I was visiting a family member at the college in the area and they wanted to come here for dinner. It apparently was a must-try place so being the adventurous person I am, I was down for something new. I was underwhelmed with my experience. I almost got the stuffed potato but decided to go with the turkey sandwich. I don't eat beef or pork which I know in Texas is a sin. Well I got the usual toppings such a BBQ sauce and pickles that make a BBQ sandwich complete. My sandwich was drenched in sauce so much that I just have to eat it with a fork and break of pieces of meat and bread. My bottom bun was soggy (but not from the sauce) and the turkey was super salty so I couldn't even nibble off that. My relative got the stuffed potato and it was a trued Texas stuffed potato! It looked delish and I tried a small piece that just had sauce and cheese and my mouth melted. If you go I would suggest trying that but prepared to be in a sleep coma and have a meal to munch on for days. read more

Unfortunately I did not enjoy my baked potato from this place. On a ride back into town, my fellow Yelp friend suggested we stop since I have never heard of this place. She swore by the baked potato and that's what we ordered. I'm hoping maybe they were having an off day, or maybe the food is better if you eat it in there instead of taking it go. I just found the chopped brisket baked potato to have very little flavor. When you pair that with the fact that we had to wait in line for a bit, I just wasn't impressed at all. BEST. BAKED. POTATOES! I mean, seriously! Every time my sister comes to visit she offers to stop and pick them up on the way to our house (and I'm a pretty good cook, lol)... The stuffed potatoes are not *quite* the size of footballs, but they ARE definitely Texas-sized, and stuffed with tons of delicious chopped beef (or whatever you ask for). They have a choice of sweet or spicy sauce (I love spicy food, but I get that sweet sauce every time!). You may also get your choice of bacon bits (not real bacon), chives, sour cream and cheese on it... even extra sauce! (Teachers - be sure and ask for a discount - school photo ID *is* required!). They have a variety of desserts available, and those are ok (it's been some time since I ordered dessert there so they may have improved). My one complaint, though, is that the beef by the pound is way overpriced, in my opinion (having moved out here from Houston). Inexpensive and delicious and quick served!! My go-to is the fully loaded baked potato, which is their special on Thursdays. It comes with two sides (green beans, coleslaw, or potato salad) and a drink. I usually get it with either pulled pork or chopped beef. My boyfriend loves the moist beef.
