We were in town for a Harvest Hosts stay at Frazier Farmstead museum and I was searching for area wine and cheese. Walla Walla Cheese Co. is a little hidden gem in the Freewater downtown area. I was immediately greeted by one of the owners and she gave me a lot of information on the cheeses they make in house, along with yummy samples. They also make their own ice cream and have cartons and cones for sale. They have pictures of the happy cows that live just 3 miles away and make the milk for all of the delicacies! I left with cheddar curds, gouda cheese and a pint of strawberry ice cream. I can't put into words how much we enjoyed all of it! I stopped at a local liquor store and got two Walla Walla wines and the rest my friends, is gastronomic history

We had the most wonderful visit.. Thank you for going the extra mile with all the tasting... So impressive your lil shop... with the myriad cheeses.. Thank you so much ..... 102* at our home in the Tri-Cities...but thanks to the ice chest we brought .. all is home.. safe and sound.. The cheese we bought today at the Walla Walla Cheese Company ... And no .. this is NOT all their types.. we didn't buy the Sriracha or Habanero .. and over a dozen other flavors... Three types of curds - Cheddar Curds, Dill Cheddar Curds, and Sweet Onion and Garlic The next row - Smoked Garlic Gouda - Smoked Cheddar with Peppercorns - Mozzarella Next row -- Herb & Garlic Havarti - Sweet Treat (with fenugreek*) - Caraway Havarti - and another Sweet Treat (with fenugreek*) Bottom row -- Pepper Jeff (their type of Pepper Jack) - Halloumi (Mallorie .. this is that cheese that doesn't melt that you cook -- and the lady cooked us each up a piece with olive oil... going to try some of my flavored oils ) - Cheddar That makes 12 types of cheese

Over the years, I've trudged up and down the Touchet sneakily scouring for tricky trout. During my…read moreadventures, I've noticed a unique house along the stream's shores. This house had a goat-shaped sign with "Monteillet" on it. For years, I wondered what it was. I eventually found out it was a fromagerie, or goat cheese "factory". I always thought it cool and out of place to find something like this amongst the palouse and wheat fields, but I am a goat cheese-making illiterate. I wanted to get educated. I emailed the Monteillet and made contact. I had friends visiting, and I thought it would be a treat to visit the fromagerie. So, we scheduled a tasting. I corresponded with Jessica, and this ended up being the person who gave us a tasting (I did talk to one of the owners, Joan, on the phone, and she was super nice, and also pointed us to the actual fromagerie when we pulled into the driveway). Jessica is someone who's interned with Monteillet & has also learned about cheese-making in France. Her welcoming demeanor and text book knowledge of cheesemaking was felt within seconds. Monteillet doesn't officially open its doors for tastings for a couple more weeks (tastings are $10/person & a little more with a wine pairing). Right about NOW is when the fromagerie is hopping. The painfully cute baby goats are starting to get weened & the mommy goats are peaking with their milk. You could tell the farm was hoppin'. So, we made our way in to the tasting room. One must be forewarned of the aroma. Cheese is definitely in the house and the nose knows. But HEY, it's cheese, so it's worth the aromatic suffering! The tasting room is a little small, but it was perfect for our party of four. We saddled up to the bar and Jessica already had an array of their cheeses ready. Two of us opted for just the cheese tasting while a third chose to have a wine pairing as well (the fourth tried finding a clothes pin for his nose). Jessica walked us through something like 5-7 different cheeses, and we also tried a Mexican chocolate on some of them as well (YUM!). Jessica was the best of hosts. We were all a bit taken aback by how young she was because her breadth of cheese knowledge was astounding and she was the best host. She talked about how things are really coming together for Monteillet. They've been featured in some national magazines, are staged to tour Farmer's Markets (I saw the owner Joan at the one in Pasco last weekend), and were also in an NPR piece (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=125425910). At the moment, they are also putting the finishing touches on an exquisite outdoor dining area (for tastings, events, visiting chef presentations, etc.). Overall, we had the best experience here. Wouldn't anyone like to get a personalized tour of a farm?! The goats and sheep were also cool to see (the baby goats clearly stole the show [they were painfully too cute!]....as well as the big lumbering and sweet doggies walking the grounds). We all ended up buying quite a load of cheese. I bought a full round of a soft cheese, and also a quarter wedge of the hard cheese (my fave). The names of the cheeses escape me, but there wasn't a non-excellent one in the bunch--it was just hard to pick one to buy. WARNING: the smell can be potent. You should have a tupperware container at the ready when you get home, otherwise your kitchen/house will explode with cheesiness! But if you're like me, you won't mind. In fact, you might be trying to figure out a way to bottle the smell for cologne (the ladies, must like this smell, right?). The cheese has been excellent, and I can't wait to make another trip to the fromagerie!

Super tasty cheese!…read more Came Saturday for the cheese tasting and I was blown away by the taste of every one of the eight cheeses we sampled. Right now, the cheese is 95% goat, 5% sheep's milk, using the milk collected from free-range animals raised on-site. Can't get more local than that. For $10, we tried their: cardebelle, larzak, le roinoir, provencal, feta, causse neir, causse blank and wasabi-ginger chevre. Everything was really tasty and after much debate, we left with the feta and the provenchal in hand. Who could resist the provencal, some of its ingredients include truffle oil, garlic, rosemary, olive oil, savory, peppercorn...drooling yet? I don't blame you, it's good. They are open to the public for tastings Friday and Saturday noon-5pm. You are welcome to wander around the farm, see the goats and sheep (the baby goats are super cute) and the garden. Wine pairings are available for an extra $5. k, that's all I got for you, go try the cheese, it's fabulous!

We stumbled upon this place while walking to another spot, and instantly had a place that we were excited about going every time we come into town! It was open by a gentleman who felt like the area could use a specialty butcher that carried a little bit nicer cuts of meat, slightly larger variety and had a cool vibe. He accomplished all three! They carry all the standard beef, chicken and pork, but also do some more specialty meats like rabbit and specialty sausages. We also loved the fact that they carry some good cheeses, including a really nice aged Gouda! My best half loves her some aged Gouda, so anytime we find something good we make note of it. The Decour here is slightly eclectic, but still familiar. They've also got some really cool custom doors that lead back into The back and windows that allow you to see where all the action is taking place. Never anything gruesome, but it's nice to see where the meat is actually being cut and prepared. In addition to the delicious non-vegetarian options, they carry some different varieties of crackers, some legit Marcona almonds and straight from the farm eggs. Prices were very fair, and the service was impeccable. This is a place that I hope starts to make T-shirts as I will definitely be excited to support all that they're doing. If you're in the area, you should definitely check this place out!

There are few to no organic options I buy such as hummus, cereal, chips, non sweetened fruit, bread, unprocessed protein options, and milk. Personally I don't like being "served", I think required politeness and civility hurts workers by emotionally enslaving them and isn't authentic to the history of the products, how they are made, and what they really are. Instead of processing the history of products they are selling empty emotional transactional "vibes" essentially trying to emotionally own the transaction. Payment shouldn't be a value The bulk food section is an option with a wide selection though not as many organic options as I'd prefer. The vitamin selection is adequate though I'd prefer to buy medicinal tinctures in larger quantities than available. The vegetarian processed food is too expensive to buy on a budget, non organic, and have way too much oil and salt in them. Most of the brands sold are lecherous and emotionally manipulative. I know they are trying to process their "biblical" beliefs but "killer" bread, "love" cereal, "gold" milk, "Morningstar" vege food, is just garbage.
