They replaced a badly weathered wooden deck and stairs at the back of my house with a beautiful deck and stairs made of composite material with aluminum railings. They also replaced the wooden fence (also badly weathered) surrounding the HVAC units on the side of house with vinyl fencing. I contacted Upward along with several other firms, and the owner (Tim Jones) got back to me by phone within a day and talked through the job. He then visited the site (I was away from the house) and within a few days, sent me a very detailed estimate that explained exactly the work that needed to be done. I then met Tim at my house, and he answered all of my questions and discussed options. Tim and team were ready to start the job in a couple of weeks and did a really great job. They prepared the steps and not surprisingly, discovered a lot of wood rot underneath; they completely rebuilt the structure underneath at an additional (but reasonable) cost. The crew was great. They showed up on time, were very courteous, and were very careful in their work, always cleaning up the job site at the end of the day, with a thorough cleaning when the job was done. The final result is just BEAUTIFUL and so much nicer than what was there before and should be pretty much maintenance free. Everything about this job went as it should, in that Tim was very responsive to any questions, communicated when there would be a delay (it took a little longer than expected to get materials), and made sure that I was fully satisfied with the final result. I had experienced a lot of soil erosion in my front yard, and as a result there were large voids…read moreunder my stoop, steps, and sidewalk. I was afraid that the stoop and steps would cave in or move without support underneath, so I wanted the voids to be filled in. I obtained a price quote from Concrete Jack, which has an office in Richmond but does work in Northern Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, DC, and West Virginia. The price quote was reasonable, so I scheduled an appointment for them to do the work. I never saw them in person because they did the work when I was at my job during the day, but when I got home, I was pleased to see that the ground under my stoop and steps was now filled in with foam that provided support and kept animals and water out. If I had known about this service earlier, I would have advised my neighbors to use them rather than to entirely replace their shifting stoop, steps, and sidewalk with concrete for much more money. In addition, to foam jacking for sidewalks and driveways, this business also does foundation repair for homeowners and a variety of commercial repairs. The inspector said that the drill holes that Concrete Jack made in my stoop were for treating *termites*! I did NOT ever have termites, but the drill holes are just something to consider...
