Walgreens, what a nightmare of a store! My experience at this place was scarier than a night in Elm Street. First of all, the staff acted like they were in a horror movie, not willing to help or even make eye contact. Customer service? More like customer disservice! And don't even get me started on the pharmacy. Waiting in line for prescriptions felt like an eternity in the dream world, and they kept messing up my orders! Freddy Krueger doesn't have time for that nonsense. But wait, there's a silver lining to this nightmare! There's another Walgreens location just down the road, and it's like a beacon of hope in the darkness. The staff there is actually friendly, and they get my prescriptions right the first time. Plus, the store is cleaner and better organized. It's almost like stepping out of a nightmare into a pleasant dream. So, if you're in the area and need to visit Walgreens, do yourself a favor and avoid this one like the plague. Head to the one down the road for a much better shopping experience, or Freddy might just pay you a visit in your dreams! read more

They were understanding toward my circumstance, and the pharmacy worker resolved my issue without giving me a hard time. I was really grateful for this. By the way, I think Kaiser pharmacies in general have faster and more efficient service than drugstores like Walgreens or CVS, not to mention the option to have meds conveniently delivered to your home at no extra cost. But if you need to pick up from an actual pharmacy, this one in Santa Clara is a good option, with friendly and professional staff, and an easy process. Every once in a while, there's a long wait (for instance, 30 minutes on my most recent visit), but on most days wait times are reasonable. I don't expect perfection, but when it comes to our health and well-being (especially when facing chronic conditions or the like), having a reliable pharmacy like this to turn to is invaluable.

The pharmacy staff are very helpful, the pricing is good, and if you only have a few items, you can even check out in the pharmacy, making a small amount of shopping possible without standing again in the main lines. That said, even when Costco is crowded, we can check out there w/a basket full of stuff faster than you can grab a bundle of onions at the Midtown Safeway. (What's up with that store? Poor selection may be explainable by their smaller size, but why is the line ALWAYS so slow!? I divert.) The Costco pharmacy can even text you when your prescription is ready. Enjoy a snack (during some hours), browse the store, or just run up the score on your Fitbit while you wait. Costco is great for everything, including the pharmacy and surrounding drugstore style products. One caution. Check out their Sunday hours and they may be closed during lunch. Call ahead.

So when the date approached for me to be eligible for a COVID vaccination I checked in with him. He was using Twitter pages and other various methods to identify which pharmacies and other locations were taking appointments. Many of them seemed to open up new appointments at midnight daily, so we agreed to get online the night before we were eligible, connect on Discord and notify each other if something opened up. Then the day before go time he sent me a link, "hey, these guys are taking appointments already, I got one." Calaveras Pharmacy in Milpitas has a very basic website, but the process for getting an appointment was simple. I was able to make one for a week later. The day before my appointment I received a confirmation text telling me to show up 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork. On the day of my appointment I arrived on time, expecting to see a line out the door, perhaps around the block, but to my surprise there was only one person there waiting. It seems they only book one appointment every 30 minutes so there was no mob scene. I stepped to the counter and was politely greeted. I gave my name and one of their staff ran me through the process and gave me a clipboard with a sheet to fill out. A few minutes later I handed it back and waited for my turn to get the stabbo. While I waited I looked around. This is a very small, but tidy, well-organized pharmacy. They have a very spartan selection of the basic OTC medicines and medical supplies available for purchase and a full service pharmacy for prescriptions. In addition to English they appear to speak Mandarin and Vietnamese. The stabbo technician came to get me and brought me to the back. Before giving me the shot she explained that she was going to plunge the serum very slowly so my arm wouldn't hurt later. It took her almost a minute to administer the vaccination. I felt only the slightest prick initially and no pain in the days following. Hearing some other's experiences with injection site pain I was grateful to have found such a skilled technician. I haven't needed a prescription since the 1980's (knock on wood), but if I ever do, I would consider driving a little out of my way to pick it up from Calaveras Pharmacy. These kinds of small, independent operations need and deserve support from their communities. If you still need your vaccination consider going here.
