I was so sad to see the giant bookstore disappear from the space a year ago, and even more upset a pharmacy was taking its place. For some architectural nostalgia, I decided to peak inside...and i was BLOWN AWAY! They played so well in to the old structure and really played to its strengths. It is gorgeous inside, and I never thought I'd say that about a pharmacy. Every little section I entered, I was greeted by an employee. One was asking if I need help, another telling me she had no line when I was ready to check out, and so on! Everyone's already mentioned the liquor section, but let me reiterate--wow! It was a surprisingly full section of liquors, wines, and beer--even with chilled sections! They carried a great variety for every price point. I am impressed. The little market area may have been the most surprising though. They had pre-made little snacks and had fresh produce and even full meals. There were so many healthy options, and at a competitive price. I would be a regular if that were in my neighborhood. read more

The store is fine. Large and has everything a Walgreens would have plus a convience store. However, bathrooms close at 8pm and open at 7am. Which would be fine if it was posted. The nice cashier told me I could go to the restroom when I was paying for my items, but this rude lady told me I couldn't go. Even after I told her I was told I could go. She said, "oh he should know the rules." Look, I don't care about your staff management issues, he said I could go and you really wouldn't let one person slide by? I was walking up to the bathroom and she stopped me. So rude. The cashier apologized for her behavior while she sent me next door to McDonalds. That woman needs to learn customer service. read more

I am here just about everyday. The new Walgreens is life its self. *Round of Applause* for the Duane Reade reworking. Definitely a win for everybody. They are a bit overpriced as compared to the CVS next door but hey, they can afford to be! Wouldn't you if you sold variations of soft serve yogurt (including red velvet) (with all the fixings,) fresh fruit, slushies, organic egg salad sandwiches, peach cobbler danishes, smoothies/freshly juiced-juices, and sushi made to order. I am going there for lunch today. They cannot be beat right now. LOL read more

Bathrooms are in the basement now. Take right out of the elevator. I've really only gone to the Up Market pat. I like that they fresh juices and smoothies and I think it's cute how they're named with a Boston theme. I was upset though because the milks they use are Vegan (rice and soy, depending on the smoothie) but the proteins used are not Vegan. read more

Just tried to print my own passport photos from this Walgreens. When I went to pick them up, they were taped to the top of the case and the cashier proceeded to berate me about how I am not allowed to print my own and the "government" won't let them do this. I literally felt like I had shoplifted or something considering the manner this man was coming at me. I had printed passport photos at CVS previously with no issues so I was shocked at this news. Well I go online to find out that Walgreens is just really upset that people do this instead of paying $15.99 to get them done there and that this is a constant issue people are discussing. Well I'm so upset by what just happened that I will absolutely never give my business to this store again. I needed to grab some essentials so I thought I'd just jam over to Walgreens real quick, grab what I needed and probably a bag of peanut butter m & m's and the Us Weekly that was taunting me at the register. There I was, walking up and down the street all confused because why does Walgreens look like SEPHORA all of the sudden. I just wanted some advil and some gum. This whole Walgreens experience left me feeling a little unsettled. It's all sparkly and white and glossy inside with department store lighting and fancy little checkout kiosks in the middle of the cosmetics floor. Yes, I said "cosmetics floor"...at Walgreens. Weird. I asked the cashier (though I feel I should be referring to her as a cosmetics artist or something) and she said it's like that because it's their flagship store. Ok. I appreciate beautiful things and maybe I just happened to walk into the door on the fancy side, but it's Walgreens. They must sell foot powder and dog food and Cheetos here too, right? But where? It's HUGE! And has the widest array of products I've seen in a Walgreen's. The staff is friendly and even eager to help you navigate the maze that is this converted Borders and formally a bank. The "cosmetic vault" is probably unique in that it's ACTUALLY an old bank vault. The food options are staggering. They have a bakery, pre made sandwiches, salads, soups, and even fresh made sushi! It's the biggest Walgreen I've ever seen, with a makeup counter and makeup experts too. The plus: huge, well stocked, bathrooms, and quick service. The con: cashiers are a miss mostly. Slippery steps, stinky bathroom, crowded, pushy makeup experts. I had a return without receipt. The cashier was rude, flippant, and snarky. The manager just stood behind the cashiers looking even though there was a long line. The way the cashiers speak to each other is terribly whiny. Surprisingly good smoothies with pretty sophisticated ingredients. My friend, who is a bit of a nit-picker loves the sushi. The fro-yo tastes likes soft serve, but it's very cheap: you pay for the size of the cup rather than the weight. There are also a lot of toppings to choose from, but I hope you aren't squeamish because this station is usually a mess. Customer-service is A+, They always have a lot of people working at the registers and throughout the store, and they appear to be trained not to be too invasive. Rant of the day: Why don't these big pharmacy/all purpose stores carry construction paper anymore? When I was a kid, you could go to a store like this and get construction paper, sparkle glue, fancy scissors, etc. Now you simply can't do that. The Walgreen's staff, however, were sympathetic to my plight (I wanted to make a homemade valentines day card) and suggested I buy Valentines Day bags, cut the hearts out of them, and use them to decorate a red poster board (they have these, but no construction paper). I don't know if its Boston as a whole, but everyone is trying to be fancy, this Walgreens in no exception. It was built within the last 3 hears in the hear of Downtown Crossing and is great for those who live here and tourists who need a quick item. They also sell alcohol and while its pricier than other places outside the city, its not too far off from what you would get from Shaws or another chain that sells liquor downtown. They also have a huge, huge beauty and pharmacy section that is pretty much half the store, They have specialist who help you pick put your shade and walk you through if you have an questions. Now, while it is great, the check out staff is beyond rude and seem to have no training. On the 3 occasions I have used a cashier at the front each one was rude and very short. On one occasion the girl didn't help me until she stopped telling her friend about some fight she almost got into or something or another, very unprofessional and then had the nerve to act like I was bothering her. When I tld her something was on sale and tha she rang it up wrong she said nothing and walked away and I was left there confused. When she came back, I guess she went to personally see if it was on sale, she was said "I guess you're right". I would recommend checking out in the pharmacy. read more

This Walgreen's is very good compared to the one formerly downtown in the old Woolworth's building lower space, and sort of a flagship/prototype store. The location is the former Boston Five Cents building/Borders' Books right the corner of School and Washington. They did a good job there is more natural light in there now than when Borders was here, and the old bank vault has a special viewing area, giving a little history nod to the building. Under the "Upmarket" banner -- there is sushi sold, and do it yourself/fix it yourself frozen yogurt. On the upper level they sell wine/liquor/beer for sale have not shopped there or priced anything so I cannot comment on the prices, etc. Also have never used the pharmacy for prescriptions and so I cannot comment on prices/pharmacy service. The store does have an interesting layout and some of the aisles are on the smaller side. The front of the store near the entrance is mostly soda, snacks, and a small selection of groceries before you hit the upmarket food area. There is a large selection of to go sandwiches, salads, and fruit in the center near the entrance for the cashiers. In the front and to left toward the windows, there is a small set of aisles which is a combination of mobile accessories/seasonal items/clearance items. They also have a small area of touristy items and souvenirs. Toward the back (School St.), there is the raised section of the store with the pharmacy and health and beauty items. The card/stationary section is quite small and choices limited. They do carry Mead made in the USA envelopes and Scotch products also made in USA which I like. The aisle for paper goods, tissue, etc. Also very small and limited choices. Cleaning products and other home items is tucked away to the left of the old vault. To the far right is the Look Boutique with high end cosmetics lines including H20 Plus, Cargo, formerly they once had a Demeter Fragrance bar (no longer). Last week I went in and the cosmetologist in the Look boutique asked me if I was looking for something specific, she was nice and friendly and it turned out they did not have it etc. She did not try to pressure sell me something else. There is a presence of security here. A few months back I walked in and out of the small housewares section a few times not sure about some lightbulbs. Someone saw me on the video and so a security guy/manager came to ask me for help, etc. I explained old house, not sure of fixtures. He was nice said I could probably return them but I decided against it. Lines during morning rush can pile up but usually have found the cashiers are nice and friendly. read more

I don't normally review pharmacies, but this one saved me yesterday. I was trying to find insoles to put in my shoes, which were extremely comfortable...until they weren't. I walked, and walked, and walked, and not being from here, I don't have a go-to place. My blisters were so excited when this had what CVS didn't - a 3-pack of insoles for a reasonable price. They also ask if you want to use your points, which is considerate, since in Delaware I've never once been asked that question. It's a small detail, but made a huge difference in how much I paid. read more

Cool store. Really big. Beautiful design. Good layout. And there were security guards (plural) patrolling. I didn't know if I should feel safe or under surveillance. I came here without reading all the praises on Yelp. I only needed some cold and flu med. Guess what, I thought I walked into a boutique for skincare and cosmetics. Not far fetched, cause there were a lot of department store brands here. I didn't take long to locate the medication section. The prices were similar to other Walgreens location, so I had no complaint. Note that public restrooms are located on lower level. Take the elevator down. read more

Awesome nail salon with friendly staff and my favorite technician, Amber! She's funny, friendly and will make sure you leave with your nails a whole lot better than you came in. Self serve froyo... need I say more? When I saw the signs for the new Walgreen on Washington St. emerge early this spring, I was way too exited at the idea of another drug store. But that's just it, it's wayyyy more then that. I have seen these new amazing Walgreens in NY, and the thought of having one here in Bean town right behind work was just to much excitement to bare! I've been dying for a cheap and easy Sushi bar to open up somewhere closer than Whole foods, and Walgreens has Delivered! There are also tons of other cheap lunch options right when you walk in the front door, not to mention the froyo and smoothies. Oh and don't worry, it's still a great neighborhood drug store. Although I have found that they don't have a great of a selection of basic products. For that I would still truck the few extra feet to CVS. ;) read more

I tried the sushi twice now, even though I was skeptical since listed in the ingredients is carbon monoxide. It is awful, tasteless and the fish basically dissolves in your mouth...fish isn't supposed to that, never again. I do like the frozen yogurt bar, better than the Fro Yo next door which all tasted like chemicals. The staff is really nice but they tend to put the slowest of the slow people upstairs in liquor and there is usually a long line. Wine pricing and selection is good. read more

It's very convenient, but the "fresh food" never really looks fresh. The liquor store has good selection and pricing but it takes way to long to get checked out, there's usually a long line, always only one cashier and it seems customers either don't have ID, are paying for their purchase by counting out change or are already drunk. They have a big display right in the middle of the aisle in front of the register that you have to manuever around. I guess what I'm saying is that the location is conveneint, but forget it if you are in a hurry. And the sushi contains carbon monoxide to keep it looking fresh, gross. read more

The smoothies are very good and a pretty decent value, but good God, you guys have got to get some people working at the smoothie bar who aren't absolutely terrified of customers. A customer standing in front of a register expectantly should not be ignored for almost 5 minutes. I know this store just opened and the employees are still getting the hang of things, but if they aren't conditioned to immediately confirm whether a customer has been helped, then there was some very mediocre training here. Receive a voice message that my prescription was ready. Went 4 days later to pick it up and was told there were no more refills remaining and they FAXED a request to my doctor and they never heard anything back (well they certainly didn't receive a receipt confirmation since my doctor's office does not have a fax). Why wouldn't the pharmacy contact ME after so many days??? No medicine now. Very annoyed. If I have a stroke without my medicine I'll be more than annoyed. disappointed customer read more

Clean and organized, well-stocked. However, the staff was very unfriendly. I went in looking for a specific moisturizer and before I even got to the right section, a man refused to let me pass until I told him what I was looking for. He was wearing a security badge and obviously hasn't heard of the brand and demanded to know the item number. When I got angry with him, he just told me to "look around" and walked away. They obviously thought I was shoplifting, although I don't know why - I'd been in the store for less than five minutes - and the way they handled the situation was very unprofessional. This place is ginormous. I know I'm stating the obvious, but just a word of warning. You will get sucked in and never leave. And the thing is, the prices aren't any better than CVS (often higher!) - they just have all this other stuff. Like smoothies. And sushi. And a manicure place ($12 for a mani). And alcohol. Oh yeah, and their alcohol prices are actually completely reasonable. I have been in here 4-5 times, and I have yet to actually purchase anything though. Horrible customer service! I went in for cat food an got the run around. I asked 3 employees before someone could actually give me the correct location. Then I went to inform the first employee the correct location just as a FYI so they know just in case they're asked again they know, and was rudely brushed off, followed by a eye roll! The selection is very nice, but...I hate this location. The security guards make me so uncomfortable. I even tried to break the ice by smiling and asking how they are and they just stare at me and say nothing. Yesterday they caused a scene from accusing this poor guy of stealing when he clearly had a receipt. I go to the CVS now down the street for my pharmacy needs. This place is a Walgreens wonderland. It's gigantic and magical and puts all other drug stores to shame. It's got a decent grocery section to pick up the essentials. It's got everything else that your standard drug store has... But more of it, for the most part. And it's got FRO YO! There's about five or six flavors to choose from. There aren't a whole lot of topping choices, but hey, most Walgreens don't have fro yo in the first place, so what are you complaining about? If you're not in the mood for something frozen, Walgreens has plenty of other tasty treats to satisfy your sugar craving. There's an awesome selection of baked goods from Sweet Tooth and Lyndells bakeries. I didn't try any, so I can't speak to their freshness, but they did look incredible. There's seating outside the store, where you can sit and enjoy the tasty treat that you know you're gonna buy. You can also stare down the pigeons, who hope you're going to "drop" some of said treat on the ground. read more

From hearing all of the amazing reviews about this location, I was super excited to finally stop here and see the flagship store for myself. Walking in...I was a little underwhelmed. It was setup like an open floor location of Walgreens. You enter to the dry foods with coolers in the rear. I walked to the right to see the smoothie bar attached to a small bakery counter and small sushi counter. Behind me was a decent froyo setup with a ton of different toppings to choose from. Star down for the mess that was on the counters. Left over melted froyo, napkins and a ton of toppings just laying around. So I headed up to the beauty section, hoping to be blown away,but it totally fell flat for me. The pharmacy was on the left and had a line that was 3-4 people deep. They have a "upscale" section of makeup and perfume that had 1 employee standing around with a clipboard. She did not bother to greet myself (or anyone for that matter) so I just looked around. I saw the much talked about nail salon/spa section. Another star lost due it it looked like a small cut off closet that was turned into a last minute spot to do nails. I peeked inside and saw an employee cleaning bottles of polish,bit also throwing bad bottles across the room. Not very professional in my eyes. Walked around the regular makeup section that had a few brands my local stores don't carry and was happy to see a different variety in makeup choices. read more

I'm so happy that this popped up right behind my office! I wandered over at lunch today and was able to get a sandwich and a smoothie for way less than my normal go-to places and the quality was just as good. They have a huge selection of anything you might need during a working day and then some. Everyone that was working were really friendly and trying to keep up with the onslaught of the opening day crowd. Hope they do well! read more

Great nail bar! So cheap at $12 for a manicure. No hard sell for products and Amber seemed genuinely pleased to be working for this Walgreens. She did a great job on my nails. its a good looking store that's filled a gap with great services. Oh and it sells liquor. What more can you ask for? read more
