One of two places in this burg. Shoddy service with only one person doing the register, coffees, rolls, and the kitchen. Food pricey, but per the posted meals, containing good ingredients. THAT IS NOT TRUE. The focacia bread was goood, the meat was store bought slices, nothing suggesting quality. With one person doing it all, it was a sad situation. Little shop was packed with cubby holes for various items of apparel, Generally messy. Coffee was available from a pressure pot, and maybe some form of espresso. Restroom is out the door, to the left, to the left, and an obscured door. Clean, tidy, the hightlight of the place. But as one of the two food sources in this little place (not a town, not a city, just a slow spot on the road) there were limited options. I recommend turning around, go back to the previous little town and go to the ice cream parlor. And if you're on your way to the mountain, either turn around, or skip the meal and make the best of a bad situation. read more

This establishment receives 5 Stars for very particular reasons. 1. Location. Super close to Mt Baker, close to camping, very convenient. 2. Quality of product. I absolutely despise cheaply made coffee and food. This place- ESPECIALLY being out in the boonies of nowhere- always has wholesome, flavorful, diverse treats, meals, bites and coffee. The soup of the day was corn chowder with yams, chipotle, cilantro and chorizo. Holy crap. Their americano isn't bitter, and they have almond or soy milk for options. 3. Atmosphere and Character. Upstairs/Downstairs/Outdoor Shaded Benches/Grassy Lawn Tables/Deck seating. That's incredible for a wee place. Their decor is adorable, and sense of humor evident in their hilarious cards/magnets for sale. 4. Good hours. They're actually open when I show up, unlike many small/county shops. Praise be. The Wake 'n Bakery is a gem of a coffee and casual breakfast spot, but only once you place it in the context of being the only decent option in Glacier, WA with any other comparable options being an hour away, does the true gravity of how great this place is really hit. We found the coffee to be high quality and smooth and the breakfast burritos and quiche delicious. The baked goods also looked great, although we did not try them. Unfortunately the breakfast options all contain dairy, so would keep that in mind if you are lactose intolerant (as someone in our group was), but you cannot really afford to be picky in this area. They also sell cute hats, T-shirt's, mugs etc. that aren't just cheap trinkets. Picked up a pottery mug that has hand carved mountains decorating the outside created by someone in the community. Would recommend checking it out whenever in the area for skiing, hiking, etc. read more

Very rude employees yelled at my wife and I for not wearing masks while we were standing outside eating and drinking coffee. One employee met his friends and went to hug them without masks, but we were the problem? We were standing at a table they set out mind you. The food is served at a window in a confusing way. They just call out the food with no name, so customers are constantly touching other peoples food by accident and then putting it back down. The coffee is mediocre and served way too hot. First of all, I should give this place 5 stars for the name alone! Are you kidding me?! BRILLIANT! Second of all: this is everything you want a little mountain coffee shop to be (good coffee, funky atmosphere) and nothing you don't (touristy, starbucksy, soulless). Usually food at coffee shop/bakeries is pretty uh...throw-away...like, they'll microwave you a jimmy dean's sausage sandwich from the freezer and charge you 6 bucks...NOT HERE. There were multiple burritos to choose from, they were all very unique (mine had NUTS in it!) and very good. As a bonus we ate outside and met a mischievous and friendly local dog named "Woods". I love this coffee house. Didn't see the signage and would have driven by none the wiser if I hadn't snuck behind Milanos to find some grass for a doggie potty break. Went in to ask a question and was mesmerized by the good vibe and energy and colors and neat offerings in the place. One of the owners, Court, was working that day and was really nice to me. IMO this is what Seattle coffee houses should aspire to. If I had a coffee house, this is what I'd aspire to. They have THE BEST bakery items of any coffee house I've ever been to -- and I've been to a lot. I'm talking scones and cookies and such to spend your last change on. This little bakery is clearly a hit, every time I've been here there has been a line almost out the door. I suppose that isn't saying to much, as the square footage inside isn't all that great. But the atmosphere is amazing, staff have always been super nice and cheerful and the few food items I tried have been absolutely delicious! No, they are not a dispensary although their name suggests it. They do have quit the collection of shirts and hoodies with their logo for sale though in many different styles. Fantastic little coffee shop/bakery up the mountain towards Mount Baker. Definitely a must stop before going and seeing the incredible mountain scenery. We ordered mochas and although they were sugar free, were great. The prices here are extremely competitive compared to the other coffee places around Bellingham, less then 4 dollars a cup and the tea is all less then two. Awesome place! Great food, make sure to try the monster breakfast burrito. We shared one everyday we were on vacation in Snowline cabins. It helped to fuel us on a 6 mile hike to a nearby glacier. The service is laid back but they aren't slow, they make it happen and are friendly. Not a coffee person so can't say anything about that but everyone else seemed to be ordering and enjoying it. We visited this business twice on our mountain adventure, once on Saturday afternoon for a quick snack and coffee after a morning or exploring. We got amazing coffee and I was literally shit my pants excited about the fact I could get soy milk in the mountains. I also got a veggie breakfast burrito which was fantastic, Tyler got a turkey wrap which he also thought was amazing. He got this magical creation call a magic bar and was a happy kid, I got a white chocolate lemon cookie. It was pretty much the most amazing thing I have ever put in my mouth. This is a neat local place foe baked goods. I was looking for vegan, gluten free options and I had a tough time getting breakfast. All their burritos are pre-made so one cannot add or subtract items. We've written off the food here after several unimpressive pastries and a disastrous quiche with a soggy, undercooked crust, but I still love Wake 'n Bakery for their coffee, their good prices, and their friendly service. My partner and I had high hopes for this spot. We loved the outdoor space and lighting when we rolled up at opening. We were excited to be the first ones there and get some fresh baked goods. Unfortunately we weren't greeted in a kind manner, the cashier did not seem excited to have to interact with us and was quick with trying to check us out. We gave her the benefit of the doubt, as you never know what is going on with people, and sat in the garden to give her space while she worked on our order. After about 10 minutes we realized our food and drink were just sitting on the pick up counter, she didn't ever have the courtesy to let us know it was ready and we were the only people there....We ordered the veggie quiche which was quite bland, and also the peach strawberry coffee cake which was dry considering it should have been baked day of. The only thing that was good, was their drip coffee which they outsource from strictly organic. It is sad walking away from a local cafe feeling like you wasted money. read more

My wife and I spent several days rafting and hiking in the Glacier / Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest Area. The place we stayed--Blue T Lodge / Chair 9--doesn't serve breakfast. so they recommended the Wake 'n Bakery. We went here four straight mornings, and were never disappointed. You have to love the double entendre of the name of the place! The proprietors: Cort and Rebecca are super nice, friendly, fun, and helpful. Their coffee and breakfast egg dishes (four types of burritos and two types of quiches) are great and were a great way to fuel for a day of hard hiking in the nearby mountains. What makes this place special though, are the warm from the oven backed goods - every day! My wife talks in her sleep about the Blueberry, Walnuts, and Cardamon scones. Their cookies, and sugary fruit bars are awesome as well. I'm not a sweets person, but I enjoyed everything I tried. There was no question everything was homemade. All dishes are made from scratch on the premises. There sweets are so popular, that many of restaurants in town serve their items on their dessert menus. The restaurant is comfortable, welcoming, casual, clean and fun. They have a copy of the Bellingham newspaper out so can stay connected to the outside world (if you so desire) while you're in the mountains. We really liked the option to sit next to the counter area, upstairs in the loft, outside on the porch or at a picnic table in the front yard. Glacier is a small town and there aren't many places to have coffee and breakfast (don't get me wrong: you have a few choices). We were totally content to eat here four mornings in a row and always looked forward to our meal, talking to Rebecca and Cort and the people we met in the restaurant. They have a groovy selection of colorful T-shirts for sale that you should check out; they'll make you smile. We hope to return next summer, and can't image how fun this place must be during ski / snowboard season. read more
