My family and I came here after miniature golfing. I was a bit skeptical when we walked in and no one was there. At first I thought they were closed, but an older lady came by to sit us down. We were the only ones dining there (granted it was like 5pm). We had the opportunity to talk to the server and found out that the restaurant had been there for about 30 years and she has been working there for 27!! Prices are very reasonable. We ordered a bento box, the American sushi, a noodle dish and chicken teriyaki. All of our meals were delish. Glad we found this little place.

I've been eating at Wakaba/takeout for over 20 years, and it's definitely one of my favorite sushi places! Everything is delicious, but my favorite rolls are Lake Michigan, soft shell crab, and spicy tuna - but you really can't go wrong with any! I like to get the spicy combo - lots of sushi for a great price (pictured). The chicken & onion udon soup is also a favorite.

I used to come here for lunch and dinner when I used to work for Discover Card (Discover Financial Services) for 10 years! Just had lunch here with an ex coworker! The food was amazingly fresh and delicious! I had the Sashimi Combo, a Spicy Tuna Handroll and Salmon Skin Handroll; my friend had a California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll! The service was quick and efficient too! Plus the interior was still very clean and cozy, just the way I remembered it! I would definitely come back again and meet up with my ex Discover colleagues here again too!

Over several visits I tried their entree, sushi and sashimi. I would recommend salmon teriyaki and definitely white tuna teriyaki. The sashimi starter appetizer also left a good impression on me. Chardonnay was not bad.

I've been here so many times, that a review update is in order! I absolutely love Wakaba - the sushi is always fresh and on par, I've never had a bad experience, and the service is consistently great. I usually come here for takeout, but I know the service dining in is just as great. The prices are much cheaper than most restaurants I go to and they have a good fish to rice ratio. Every time I am here, they seem to be fairly busy, which is always a good sign. It's in a great location in Deerfield, which is why it makes it so easy for me to pickup dinner anytime of the week. I will continue coming here and bringing my business to the really nice owners, who have been here for a long time already.

This place is a total dive, but absolutely delish! My friend and I wound up stopping in here randomly after finding out that the place we wanted to grab lunch at was closed. What a pleasant surprise!! The hostess was more than gracious, attentive, and courteous, and the food presentation was on point . Rolls are small, but more than filling with a small salad or some soup. Can't wait to return.

I've never seen fish sliced this thin for sushi. No wonder this place was a morgue on a Saturday night at 6. Good joints let the people eat!

Sushi does not look fresh and their portions are very small it's not even worth the price. And the food is not very tasty.

Having this delicious dish a few years ago sent me down a rabbit hole where I was determined to make it myself. I can make it myself, yes, but HBS is far superior. Everything is packed nicely, and even their packages of nori taste better. This is a fun dish for a party (everyone will ask you where you got it) or even just to treat yo self.

It requires a bit of planning ahead for dinner, but well worth it since it's one of the few meals that my entire family enjoys. It's basically a big box of rice and crab filling. You heat it in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Scoop it into seaweed, which the kiddos find super fun...and you've got yourself an easy and healthyish dinner. We've tried both the regular and spicy and all prefer the regular. One large + one small is perfect for my family of 5 and we always have enough for leftovers the next day...and it tastes just as good a day later. I've been told it's extra good if you slice up cucumbers and avocado to add to it, but even that requires too much prep for me and it's been tasty enough on it's own. We've had it twice over the last few weeks and everyone enjoyed so much that I plan to make it part of our regular dinner routine.

However, since fellow Yelp Elite friend Howard L. recommended BluFish to me, I had mentally put it on my to-try list for a while. Recently, both my husband and I decided to give it a try, and it did live up to the hype! Although the restaurant looked smaller in real life, it was chic and modern looking. We made a reservation for 2 on the same day on a Wednesday, a couple of popular time slots had been filled. When we went at 6:00 pm, the restaurant was bustling. We were promptly led to a 2-person table in the open dining room. My seat had the nice view of the sushi-making station, which was super busy. There was an area with all high-back booths, which seated 4 each. Our area was quite loud, fortunately, my husband and I could still hear each other. Our server, Kassie, was very pleasant, sweet, knowledgeable, and attentive. She truly contributed a lot to a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. For appetizer, I was going to order Crab Cakes, but changed my mind after learning that even with the wasabi sauce put on the side, the crab cakes would still be spicy hot. I ordered an order of Takoyai ($9)(six pieces) instead and shared that with my husband. It came out piping hot and was cooked just right, with a light and crispy skin and perfect texture. Just delicious! My husband ordered a Chilean Seabass entrée ($36) which had a generous portion. I was interested in getting some sushi rolls. You can pick long or short. Kassie answered my question that long was about 8 to 10 pieces, while short being 5 to 6 pieces. I ordered one long and one short to get some more variety, understanding that it would be too much food for the two of us. I ordered the long Green Turtle ($18) -- one of my all-time favorites, and a short Smoky Bear ($14). Everything was delicious, even though my husband said that the seabass was slightly overcooked. The ratio of sushi rice to the other ingredients was perfect, and all of that were fresh, tasty and balanced well. I have recommended BluFish to my other family members and relatives. We will definitely be coming back. I would be happy to try more different sushi rolls from their extensive menu.

We felt no friendly vibes, we felt like she was very stern and not the nicest, especially when we had an issue that she didn't initially believe us on but turns out we were correct. Miso soup - average, as expected. Miso soup is pretty standard. Veggie tempura - not a lot. Came with 2 onions, 3 sweet potato and half of a mushroom. Usually there's more variety and more veggies included. The tempura was super thin and flaky, it fell right off. Not much flavor. It came with the smallest bit of sauce that was gone in a few dips, not enough for th whole appetizer. GIANT CRAB CRUNCH $18 (Deep fried roll with spicy crab, avocado, smoke salmon, cream cheese served wi wasabi mayo and unagi sauce) - initially the role came without smoked salmon and cream cheese, it was the wrong order. I ate a little before realizing it and when I pointed it out the waitress didn't believe me and acted like I was lying, I was very uncomfortable. She kept telling me it's the giant crab crunch and had me show her each ingredient. She was pointing at rice on the roll and telling me that it was salmon and cream cheese right there, which it absolutely wasn't, she was pointing in nothing. And my roll came with jalapeño accidentally, it wasn't supposed to, and she kept telling me there's jalapeño inside like it's supposed to and that's why she knows my order is correct... which doesn't make sense because the roll didn't come with jalapeño. Honestly the whole thing was just uncomfortable and finally she took it back to the chef and said she will ask him. Chef said it was the incorrect role after all, we were right. Now I dont care it all about the incorrect order, I only care about what felt like abrasiveness and not believing me when I mentioned. Finally they brought us the correct order and it was very soggy and fishy. The smoked salmon inside had a strong potent fishy flavor. Barely any cream cheese. Mostly spicy crab and the whole thing was mushy and totally falling apart. I asked for a side of the wasabi mayo on top since there was barely any and she said it's an extra charge for a small portion. So we politely declined and were surprised. CALIFORNIA SUNSET $19 (Crab meat, cucumber, avocado topped w/ fresh salmon w/ salmon roe served w/ citrus mayo): first of all we asked in it's imitation crab and the answer was yes. It's not real crab, which is very deceiving since the verbiage said "crab meat" but it's not crab meat, it's imitation crab which is usually white fish. Second, we asked for the citrus mayo on the side and it came with none and then they tried to charge us $1 for it. They gave just a teeny tiny bit and when we asked for more we actually did get charged $1 for a tiny little Petri dish of sauce. Quality: veggie and fish quality seemed to be good except for the fishy fish my roll. Would not go back based on this experience.
