The women at the front were welcoming and kind. They got me my ordered and helped me to check out quickly. It was about $20 for two rolls, 8 pieces each. The sushi was flavorful. I ordered the Alaska Maki (subbed avocado in place of the cream cheese) and the vegetable Maki, which either was swapped for the vegetarian roll or additional veggies were added, as it had bell peppers and that was not listed on the menu. Never really give bad reviews but this was bad. Food was very small compared to the online menu pictures and there was barely any salmon on the bento. Like one bites worth...Spent 160 for 4 measly bentos and a sushi combo. Owner must have changed or something. Also the sushi platter or what is called a platter was warm because it was packaged with the hot food for some strange reason. So warm sushi was not very pleasant. Quite disappointing. The Spicy Tuna Hand Roll was not what you'd normally expect it to be.. it's just two pieces of tuna and a smear of spicy mayo (not spicy). It looks like their Firecracker Hand Roll would be more like it (minus the tempura flakes). All three Maki Rolls- Spicy Beef, Snow Dragon, and Spicy Scallop were all just so-so... nothing special, lacking flavor and ingredients. If these simple rolls weren't even good, it makes you question their specialty rolls. Miso soup was fine but adding tofu like most other places would've better. A hidden gem in Mundelein. Small and cozy sushi place with friendly servers and chefs. Our waiter was polite and attentive. We had our 1 year old daughter and got her set up with a high chair right away. We started our meal with some hot sake, gyoza and miso soup. Our server even brought a soup with some ice for our daughter which we didn't expect. This was a nice gesture since we can give her the soup right away. Usually we would have to wait for the soup to cool down before giving our baby something hot. We order the following: Maguro nigiri - fresh blue tuna with a kick of wasabi in between the rice and fish Sweet Potatoes maki - nicely crispy one of my favorite non fish roll Rainbow Maki - the assortment of sashimi on top of a California rolls. This is my go to roll here because they don't stuff this with crab stick but actually top with sashimi. Osaka Maki - tuna, avocado, cream cheese, cucumber, spicy Mayo and masago. Usually anything with cream cheese can be too much but I liked there was a good balance of tuna and cream cheese. Spicy Sake Maki - actual salmon pieces and not diced salmon. I always hesitate ordering anything with spicy Mayo and fish because it's usually dice fish which I hate but Osaka does it right with the salmon sashimi pieces. Can't begin to say how disappointing this restaurant was. First: young woman who seated us was also the one bringing food (or supposed to). She forgot utensils and drinks. We had to go get them ourselves. We were served shrimp shumai still frozen in the middle. The second time it came out it was still frozen! The server was invisible, she never once came to the table after we got our appetizers. Used to love this place but never again. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chef mentioned they import special fish directly from Japan every week, and you can really tell from the quality. The sashimi was particularly impressive, with vibrant colors that showcased its freshness. The service was very good They also had a specials poster this week which was very intriguing. They wrapped up the order in a bag so I did not see the items until I got home. The maki rolls were ok, just a bit pricey for what you get. The uni on the other hand was so old it was starting to rot and liquify. The cost was $70 for four pieces so not cheap. In fact it is the most I have ever paid for uni. There is no way the chef did not know the uni was bad when he prepared it so I am giving this place a 1 star review. read more

Located in a small plaza, Osaka Sushi is not too bad for the place and location. I wouldnt really recommend it for "date night,' especially if you're on your first date! This place isnt too fancy. (maybe try Sushi Kushi San) And can be kinda crowded and loud once people start to come in for dinner because of the small space. The friendliness is on and off. Some times if they are really busy, you can be ignored for a while. But eventually they will get to you. The many times that i've been there, we usually get either Osaka Bento, Ton Katsu, or different kinds of rolls. Some times the fried items in the Bento can be overly done and have that bitter taste to it which i really hate. The california roll never fails. One of my favorite is their veggie tempura. Some thing about those deep fried sweet potato that gets to me every time. The Ton Katsu some times can be on the oily side. I'm used to having the katsu to be thicker. Their's is sliced so thin... I feel like it's more of the bread crumb toppings than the meat that i'm eating. I like my Katsu to have some thickness to it. So when you fry it, it's juicy and tender. Osaka's on the drier side. The dipping sauce to me is on the more saltier side. Heavy on the soy sauce. Once in awhile if im nearby and craving japanese food, ill stop by and grab take out. No complaints. Came with miso and a tiny plate of salad (wasn't a traditional ginger dressing - more oil based). Service was fine - our waters were filled when needed.
