    Crab rangoon

Came by here dying for chinese food after an artfair. We had been here once before for sushi but did not rate it. This time were looking for lo mein. Place was dark but nice a few people for lunch. Service was average. We had 4 items. First we had the crab rangoon. Was typical just avereage could be crunchyer. Second we had the pork lo main which was good. Good amount of bbq pork, noodles were in good shape not broken. We always have a had time finding good chinese in lake county. Was enough for another serving at home. We had 2 maki rolls both just meh, not memorable. They had a giant menu we would probably go back to try a few more things.

Solid asian takeout. Kung pao chicken was amazing but the pork pad Thai was very subpar. We will come back for sure.

Outside of somewhat uncomfortable seating, this restaurant impresses on all levels. The decor is…read morefun and transforms you into a different world during your meal, service is quick and friendly, prices are surprisingly reasonable the amount and quality of food you're getting, flavors are on point (and on the healthier side of cooking for this style), and presentation is great. The other struggle will be with parking as this place is generally very packed during dinner hours. After several visits here, I've decided that the best way to order is to get large dishes to share with others. While, individual size servings are great -- there is a ton of spots nearby great for 1-2 people, but this spot does offer some nicely presented large dishes like bossam which are great for serving. I also find the seafood pancake to be a generous size with plenty of seafood and a nice crisp edge. These are definitely prepared with minimal seasoning, relying instead on an assortment of sauces to infuse the food with flavor. The bulgogi similarly, is tender and presented with lots of cabbage, more of a cold day comfort food instead of a seared version with thick sauce as you may find in other nearby locations. Definitely aim for some spicy dishes like the spicy pork bbq with mozzarella cheese if you're coming here, as the spicy options are on a different level of flavor and depth (similar to most Asian food you'll find in the area). Again, the meat is prepared very tender with an explosion of flavor. Overall, excellent food with excellent presentation and surprisingly affordable pricing. Probably one of the best values you'll find from a Yelp Top 100 US restaurant.

However, the food was very bad. We ordered pad thai with tofu, and the dish that was brought out was about 75% massive, tasteless chunks of tofu. What few noodles could be found underneath all the tofu were mixed with chopped onion, diminishing their ratio even further. There was a tiny pile of about 1/2 tsp of ground peanuts added in one corner of the plate. The sauce tasted sour and burnt. One of the worst pad thai variations I've had in a long time. Still.. I wouldn't fault them just for having bad food, but within an hour of leaving the restaurant, both the spouse and I were having an upset stomach, and ended up not being able to finish our drive home without having to pull over and find a public restroom. I would chalk it up to coincidence, but my spouse revealed that when she used the restroom, there were prominent signs indicating that no one is allowed to flush any sort of toilet paper down the toilet, and instead has to put them in open bins sitting in each stall next to the toilet. Each stall in the restroom had open trash cans filled with used toilet paper full of fecal matter, which is pretty horrifying to think of in a restaurant serving food in a first world country. My spouse brought home her leftovers and heated up them the next morning and within a half hour of eating them, was already having an upset stomach again which endured for the remainder of the day. We would definitely not eat here again, and it seems like the health department probably needs to pay this place a visit.

Now for the update. For years I considered this modest restaurant a highlight. The staff was cool…read moreand efficient. Ordering was a breeze and the guys were always open to a conversation or giving suggestions. The restaurant was clean and the meal was always tasty. Just a note but the further away you move from any major city the fewer and harder it is to find great Asian food. The suburb is lucky to have them. The pandemic brought new staffing. Some were pleasant with customers though one lady, a supervisor had the wrong ideas of what customer service and proper etiquette is. Just the basics of my final visit. I took my family for lunch. We ordered lunch specials and a couple extra must-try plates. Two specials hit the table and the third was left waiting for her meal. Unbeknownst to us in the moment, her food was handed to a single patron there for his lunch. The place was filling up with a lunch rush but not so many that had complicated orders. Many were ordering similar lunch specials. Kung pao lunch special was popular. When her order finally arrived the supervisor realized she had given the wrong plate to the customer sitting some tables behind us. Mind you ten minutes had already passed. She quickly went over to him and asked what he had ordered. She then took the plate he was eating from and handed him the fresh plate. He was still holding a half eaten egg roll in his hand. Then she brought the quarter eaten plate and placed it in front of my mother. Before she could leave I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She simply stated that was her lunch order. I told her she handed my mother someone else's food that they were eating and I watched the whole thing. Why didn't you take that to the back and make a completely new plate of food?! I paid the bill and got the F**k out. That's gross. Also, you gave the other patron new food but cannot do the same for our table?? This place is dead to me. If she could do that, it beckons the question of what else is happening behind the scenes.

Like the texture to the spring rolls and the dipping sauce. Would have liked for the rolls to have tofu in them but they were still very good. I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. This was this past weekend on Friday night.
