Sadly the Jin28 that we normally go to in Arlington Heights closed in 2025. But we were so excited to find this one! This Jin28 had the similar setup -- Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. This location is smaller than the one in Arlington Heights, but the food and service was great. I had to order my rainbow roll sushi, which was good, and the wifey got the pad see ew. More like pad see yum. Speaking of yum, we also go the Tom Yum soup, which was not ew at all, but very delicious. My son got the orange chicken. Overall experience, was great! Jin 28 is where you can get Japanese, Thai, and Chinese food in the same place. We dined in and the service was quick and friendly. We ended up ordering a lot of things. We had the california roll, avocado roll, pad thai noodles, mongolian beef, basil fried rice and "fancy" noodles and lo mein. We even ordered a kid's plate which comes with four different things for them. The portion sizes are big.You could easily split, or you'll have enough to take for leftovers. Everything we ordered was pretty tasty. The pad Thai was a little different than I was used to, but it was still good after dinner we were going to get Thai tea. But we were informed that thai tea is only served during the summertime, which is a bummer, but the people that I was with ended up getting a honeydew smoothie.They have a variety of different fruit flavored smoothies. Every dish I've ordered at Jin 28 in Highwood, IL., has been shockingly fresh, delicious, and well-made. This sounds over the top to write... but compared to other Asian restaurants, the food is always fresh, extremely high quality, and creatively prepared. Special requests have been received to precisely... I'm left feeling the kitchen, servers, and those packaging, really care about each dish. The food is perceptively fresher than other most other eateries. The waiting is typically not long at all. Our favorites are: Udon Stir fry, Kung Pao Chicken (with a sweeter sauce), Sweet & Sour Chicken (made with a very light batter, not greasy at all), and Pad Se Ew (Thai). It's all wonderful. Came by here dying for chinese food after an artfair. We had been here once before for sushi but did not rate it. This time were looking for lo mein. Place was dark but nice a few people for lunch. Service was average. We had 4 items. First we had the crab rangoon. Was typical just avereage could be crunchyer. Second we had the pork lo main which was good. Good amount of bbq pork, noodles were in good shape not broken. We always have a had time finding good chinese in lake county. Was enough for another serving at home. How can you NOT have a website? That just might sum up the experience. This restaurant is hidden at the end of a strip mall. I think it was good. It was very authentic down to the poor language translation from the staff. My fault I have not mastered Thai. There was a strong presence on Asian patrons and as they say eat as the locals eat. We got delivery from Jin 28. The delivery was on-time, with everything included, no complaints there. The food was pretty meh. Seemed like things were fresh, the veggies were nice and crunchy, but cooked with a little too much oil and not really seasoned much. The yellow curry was more of a brown sauce, and tasted strange. Spring rolls have peanut sauce in them, which is a big no for us. We keep hearing there is no good Chinese on the North Shore, but we're really hoping there's something better than this. read more

Absolutely terrible. Part of tonight's order was a simple salmon avocado roll...they served us the thin little fat flap that is never attached to sashimi grade salmon. It was extremely slimy as well, I had to spit it out. This means they are serving grocery store quality salmon and passing it off as sushi. Disgusting! read more

The food has improved quite a bit. The servers and staff are a lot more amicable. The restaurant is the same inside but that was never a problem. It's comfortable and not stuffy. The vegetable tempura was ok but the Singapore rice noodles were terrible. Had a very strong taste like they shook on tons of curry powder on top of the noodles without making it into a sauce or cooking it whatsoever. I love curry but this powdered curry was pretty awful. The basil chicken dish was ok but again did not taste like any Thai dish I have had in the past. We will need to find a real Thai restaurant in this area - this will not be the one unfortunately. read more

I wish I could give this restaurant a better review. I cannot. I had read some of the other reviews before ordering from here. They certainly didn't give a full idea of what this food is all about. Absolutely, tasteless. We ordered take out consisting of the egg rolls and crab ragoon, cashew chicken w/brown rice and the BBQ ribs. It's was all horrible. The egg rolls and crab ragoon all had the same oily, onion and pancake batter texture coating with an indescribable interior,for both! Don't try it! The cashew chicken with brown rice tasted as though the chicken was barely cooked with vegetables that had no seasoning to make it resemble or taste as a Thai meal. The barbecue ribs were absolutely in edible. They were tough, and the taste was indescribable. We have ended up throwing everything out. What a waste. If you're ever thinking of going to this place or ordering out, don't! I spent the total of $45 for our dinner tonight and it was complete waste of money and food. Go to McDonald's. 6/18/2023 - Lunch Came by today for Father's Day. As a restaurant on a strip mall, I had low expectations. Surprisingly, the interior was clean, had ample tables and chairs, and had a good ambiance. We had: edamame, pad see eiw chicken, Philadelphia rolls, 2 kid's meals with fried rice, fried chicken, shrimp tempura, fries, and wonton strips. We had avocado shake and mango shake with boba. One of the best Asian restaurants in town. Not only is this place extremely affordable, there is a wide selection of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese food. My absolute favorite is the sushi with salmon on top of it that's seared with fire. Right when I took a bite of that dish, I ordered another plate of it. My entire family was so pleased with the vegetable Kow, Mongolian beef, and curry. Everything was delicious and our waitress was extremely polite and accomodating our every need. Just a quick disclaimer... this is not necessarily a traditional 5-star as in that the food is exciting, unique, and perfectly executed -- but Asian food in most of the North Shore (actually, even most of Lake County) that isn't either pure Japanese or priced fairly high -- is really not that good. In fact, I prefer Panda Express to most of the Chinese restaurants in the area. So this five stars is more to recommend that this is the place I'd choose to go for Pan-Asian cuisine for this area. Outside of the food, the dining room is fairly spacious and comfortable. More of a modern look and kept very clean. The service is quick and helpful, not too overbearing. The prices are fairly low for both the North Shore and for a classier Pan Asian restaurant. The food, while not being amazing -- does outperform the price and demonstrate some thought and care put into the preparation. Here are some of my thoughts. Crab rangoon and egg roll: Nicely done. Fried crispy and does have the good flavor of Americanized-Cantonese style cooking. House salad: Cool temperature, crispy, and slightly creamy miso dressing. I'd take this over the miso soup option for the lunch special. Tea: Yamamoto. One of the nicer brands available in tea bag form. Egg drop soup: Pretty thick and full of egg flavor. Hot and sour soup: Does use a bit nicer ingredients than normal. Rice: White rice is a bit more fluffy and moist than you'd typically expect from a restaurant (not sure if they keep separate batches of rice for serving versus frying). Fried rice is a bit plain -- you can get some egg flavor but not too much wok-hay as the soy sauce overpowers everything. Chicken pad thai: A bit sweet... but oddly can be addictive in flavor as well. A bit more wet than most pad thai you'll probably find -- but can't complain too much about it at this price. Shrimp red curry: A curry that's quite sweet (very noticable coconut milk) but doesn't have too much depth or complexity of flavor. Yet, it's still quite a good simple comfort food. Shrimp kow: Simple chop suey style, but actually pretty generous with the amount of shrimp provided. Served with a nice helping of vegetables. Beef chow funn: Presented in the wet style rather than the dry style. The surprising part about this dish is actually in the noodles. The wide noodle used in this tends to dry quickly but the one I ate was actually fresh enough it had elasticity to it. A pleasant surprise as the beef was also prepared nicely in this dish as well. Orange chicken: Crispy, not too much dough. The sauce is simple and could use some orange peel -- but not a bad version of this dish. Maki (California, spicy crunch, salmon) -- these rolls were prepared just as you'd expect by some of the nicer Japanese restaurants. The ingredients were fairly fresh, but the flavor combinations weren't particularly special. I'll need to go back and try signature rolls sometime to better assess the ingredient quality and technique as these are amongst the most basic options available. From trying other locations, I'd expect the flavors to be a bit on the light side. Overall, this isn't a bad place at all to take friends or family if you're looking for Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. food. You won't find the most amazing versions of these dishes you've ever had here -- but they'll be done fairly well and be priced fairly. read more

This place is plain grody. They offer sushi, Chinese and Thai cuisine but I can tell you that the Thai food here is flavorless and super greasy and one-dimensional. The Chinese food is no better: for example the potstickers are just fried and not steamed and then pan fried. The egg rolls were ok. Service here is spotty and cold and staff appear to be biding their time waiting for the place to be shuttered as there just are no customers. I think this place is a Korean restaurant making Chinese and Thai food thrown in with some sushi offerings but just fails in its execution. It's fusion food that's more Confusion cuisine. The service is really friendly, the interior is comfortable and nicely-decorated, and the menu is very extensive, prices are affordable, but time and time again, the food is just.. not that good. Tucked away in a Highwood strip-mall is Jin28. If that sounds familiar, you may have been to their other location in Naperville. Jin 28 is a pan-Asian restaurant that has a large and diverse menu. They have your typical orange chicken and crab rangoon, but also have a good selection of other asian-inspired dishes. I think they're known for the sushi and take out, but I'd encourage you to try other things on their menu. I haven't been disappointed yet and we've been coming here for a few years. The portions are enormous, the prices are fair, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. I'm not sure why this place isn't busier, but we really like it! read more

I like this place because their prices are probably the most reasonable, as far as Chinese goes, in this neighborhood and they offer a large selection to choose from. I ordered through Grubhub, and the food took forever to get to me. Which meant by the time it did, the food was warm. As far as taste goes, the lo mein was tasty but very oily. The egg rolls were lukewarm and just ok. The wings smelled and looked great. They were, however, extremely pink inside and made me question if I was really eating the wing of a chicken or some bird the Chinese food industry has found that can pass as chicken. What we received tasted fine but our delivery was incomplete (we ordered and paid for chicken fried rice $13 and it never came), it was 30 minutes late. It arrived lukewarm at best and the specific instructions we gave for one of our dishes (allergy) was completely ignored. Tried to call the restaurant for 40 minutes straight, no answer, to give give them a chance to rectify. Will look elsewhere next time we want Chinese.
