The location is great but food Meh. I've been coming to Wahoo's for years at different locations and this was my first visit to the San Clemente location and probably one of my worst experiences. LOCATION & AMBIANCE (Rating 3) It's a typical Wahoo's; stickers and all! it's not very wide though and the counter area gets even tighter. It's so tight that they really don't have a designated structural line area like at other locations. No biggie on that though as it's still comfortable. SERVICE (Rating 2.5) Counter service as usual. When they brought the food I asked for a couple of things that were missing. They brought 1 of 2 and said they would be right back. no luck. I went up and handled it myself. CITRUS SLAW BURRITO (Rating 2) If you're going to advertise "Citrus" I expect to be able to taste citrus. The only thing I tasted was rice and beans as there was so little fish that it went almost unnoticed. I also ordered it wet with the green sauce. There was barely any green sauce and what was there had been dried out by either their oven or heat lamp. Total FAIL on this burrito! read more

I always make sure to stop in at Wahoo's whenever I visit my daughter in CA. No question, it's a must. They have the best fresh fish tacos, which makes total sense since they are near the Pacific coast. Hence fish, right? Anyway, I've only had 2 offerings from their menu, the Citrus Slaw Fish Taco and always gotta get the plate, I mean come on! Who in their right mind wouldn't as it comes with choice of 2 tacos, choice of brown or white rice and choice of black or Cajun white beans or sub with a side of their house specialty citrus slaw. Or I have their Bonzai Salmon Bowl. Their Bonzai Bowl is with choice of protein, chicken (Cajun or grilled), pork carnitas, carna asada (100% angus steak), wild caught salmon (Cajun or grilled), sautéed shrimp or sautéed tofu with a mixture of sautéed veggies over rice and beans. The chicken tacos are excellent. Not quite "The Best" I've had, but 'tis as good as San Clemente gets (exception: Ole Meindes/Capo Beach has MIGHTY tasty & fine hardshell tacos). Wahoo's is above average in consistency. I'd like to know what they marinate the meat/chicken in? It's hard to pin down, and I'm somewhat of a "chef" - when it comes to marinades. The rice is good yet plain (in case you were expecting the jazzed up "fried" type). I appreciate tasty food that isn't fried, which Wahoo's appears not to do. My only complaint ar ethe napkins (I know, nit picky right?!). Seriously, you need at least 8 of them if you're eating a taco with your hands. They typically give me ONE. Heh, I ask for more and then get 2. :-/ Upgrade thy napkins and you'll use less napkins hence, less paper waste - is my humble thought! The lines are longish - if you show up between 11:30-2:00 & 5:00-8:00. I always call ahead & walk to the front of the line (they have a separate Pick Up Window) !! It's worth dining here! Sooo good! Ended up ordering shrimp tacos.. Can I just say the flavor was amazing. We also ordered chips and salsa.. Both salsas were so good. The best part about this place is the atmosphere and amazing staff.. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They took their time with me to explain the different taco styles and what they recommended. The atmosphere is fun and out of the norm. I could spend a good amount of time checking out all the stickers and different posters they have posted throughout the restaurant. Make sure if you go, you snag a seat on thr patio, the weather was perfect and we really enjoyed sitting on the patio and taking in thr nice weather. We will definitely be back! read more

The burritos are my thing and they never disappoint but, everything we get is always satisfying and their staff is always super helpful and friendly. Wow! We had the best experience at Wahoos on 2/26 with take out food. It was easy to place our order by phone (a large order), and everything was hot and delicious when we got it home. We had hungry kids, so we were thrilled at the generous portions of the kids' meals. We ordered the Bonzai bowl, and several different tacos for the adults. EVERYThing was delicious! I come to Wahoos for their banzai veggies, I am obsessed. Not a huge fan of the rest of their items, but I do always order the same thing, banzai bowl or burrito and both have been on point here. Service is nice, food comes out quickly and the quality is great. A meal will run you just under $10 making their food q bit pricey, but I feel it's worth it and keep returning. read more

Wahoos is a lot more then fish tacos! They have many different options my favorites being the Bonzi burrito or bowl and the #2 it comes with beans and rice I always get black beans & white rice it also comes with two tacos or enchiladas for $7.44. Usually i get the enchiladas and always get one red and one green because they both are soo good I can never seem to make up my mind which ones i want! The good thing about them being you can have whatever meat you want inside or just plain cheese I tend to go with the chicken spicy or regular or the plain cheese depending on how I'm feeling for the day. When the server brings your food to the table I always ask for some salsa after they bring you the salsa it goes great on top of the white rice it just makes it that much tastier! Over my many years of visiting this Wahoos location I've always had good food and good service their staff has been friendly and quick. This location is right next door to the movie theater so it's perfect to grab some food before catching a flick. Definitely will be returning to this or another Wahoos soon as its always good! read more

Pro: Good chips Con: Salsa from a Jar, undercooked rice, disgusting white and bad beans. Poorly prepared fish, disgusting burrito, and over priced. I mentioned before that this place is a your last resort before hitting taco bell... well, I was wrong, just go to taco bell. The parking around is pretty insane due to the theater, which makes the lunch rush even more miserable than it has to be... My party ordered two fish taco combo, shrimp burrito combo, and two chicken tacos... non of us finished, it was just that bad. If you just don't any better, come to this place... if not, hunt down a Mexican place with actual Mexicans not white people. read more

No doubt is there lots of seating with fast service and friendly workers but if you eat somewhere that is not sanitary that is not acceptable. One of the workers collected the dishes and wiped down the table as a customer was leaving and took their half eaten chips and salsa and placed it back where they gave fresh chips and salsa behind the cashier!!!! HEALTH HAZARD! DON'T EVER EAT HERE! Completely ruined my weekend, as well as, Valentines Day. I came in w/ my partner and two nephews to eat lunch. My partner and I ordered the exact same thing, Outer Reef Burrito w/ carne asada, and split the chicken taquitos. Later on that evening we both became SEVERELY ILL, throwing up and diarrhea all night and into the morning. We were completely bed ridden until Monday morning (ate there Saturday). I can't even remember the last time I had food poisoning, let alone that horrible. I don't even "yelp," but this pissed me off so bad that I felt so inclined to warn the public. I love this place! I eat here at least once a week, and sometimes twice in one day. The style is a mix of Asian/Pacific/Mexican food. It meshes so wonderfully, and for pretty good prices. The portions on the bowls are huge. Some of my favorites: Maui Bowl, Wahoo's Fish Salad, Shrimp Enchiladas with Red Sauce, Banzai Bowl. Don't forget to look for the beer of the month. It's only $1.75. The staff is also extremely friendly, making it a point to say "thank you" and "goodbye" to each and every guest that leaves. One last tip that not everyone knows: If you buy the largest size drink and get the plastic cup, you can bring it back every time after that and you'll get 50 cent refills. :) read more

Out of all the wahoos I have been to this one is the worst. I usually order to go but every time I pick up my food they have either skimped on guac forgot my chips and salsa order ( that I paid extra for) or have completely made the order wrong. My last visit was the last straw- I came in at 8:45pm on a saturday (they close at 10pm) they were not busy I placed an order to go and it took them 37 minutes to get my order together - I sat at the nearest table to the counter to hear when my order was ready and guess what they never called it out. Employees walked by my table delivering food to other people never stopped to ask why 2 people were just sitting at a table with no food for 30 minutes - finally I asked where my order is and the guy (who I assume is the night manager) rolled his eyes hands me my bag and says nothing ...... We left annoyed oh and he forgot our chips and salsa again. Ive worked in restaurants just because you screwed up doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it...... Never again read more

Yummy! I have come to love Wahoo's for so many reasons. Everything is cooked to order and is fresh. If you do it right, it can even be healthy. This is one of the few places that I go to where I actually feel good about myself after eating here. My Friday visit was the same like visits past. Great staff attiude and delicious meal. We have been eating at the SC location since we moved here in 1998 and Wahoos never disappoints! Fresh, healthy food that's tasty at a good price. We are here at least once a week. Pretty much have tried everything on the menu and it's all tasty. Favorites are: fish tacos, blackened chicken wahoos salad, outer reef burrito, and surprisingly good Maui onion rings. To top it off the staff is always super friendly and go out of their way to greet customers and say goodbye! Roberto is the store manager and always checks in to ensure all is well. It's so refreshing to have staff that is so upbeat and customer oriented, so many times a good dining experience is dragged down by grumpy staff. read more

I love fish tacos so when I saw this place across the way from trader joes I just had to try it out. The staff is so nice but they neglect to tell me that my children bean cheese burritos were made with black beans! With black beans on the side with rice. My fish taco was also not the best it was missing flavor. This Wahoo's location is my personal favorite. Great outdoor seating in an enclosed patio although it's a bit noisy due to the traffic (the ocean breeze makes up for it). Fish, shrimp and mushrooms were great. The chocolate chip cookie was totally gross. I should have asked for a refund :0( Neither Jeff or I ate it. Except for the girl who tried to take our order (I don't think she could've graduated grade school!), the service was fast and courteous. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean.
