I used to go to Wahaha back in college circa 2009-2010 and remember loving this spot for Chinese food. I haven't been back until today (Saturday) for a late lunch! I was happy they had a daily special (included on weekends as well) that is only $7.50 - I got a spring roll, egg drop soup, steamed white rice and orange chicken. I also ordered the Taro milk tea, which was only $3.75 for a very large drink! The portion sizes are decent and not overwhelming which I love. Although the ambience was not the best (pretty grungy and run-down- but charming in it's own way, the service was great and staff friendly. Honestly, the only reason this place doesn't get five stars is because of the general sanitation of everything. This is my favorite Asian restaurant perhaps in Oklahoma. Whether it's their wahaha fried rice, sesame chicken or my absolute favorite hot and sour soup this place never disappoints me. The inside is pretty small with a few booths and two family tables. The atmosphere is calm and the decorations or a little outdated and simple but I'm definitely not here for a date or entertainment. The prices are fair between $9 to $12 and their selection is fairly extensive from authentic to what you would expect for an Asian restaurant in Edmond. There's smoothie drinks are also incredible. I'm a little conflicted with how I feel about this place. It's really rare I go out for Chinese food, since it's all I cook at home - so I was real excited to find one with relatively good reviews and some place that had authentic Chinese food on the menu! Pros is that they have a daily special menu that's soooo affordable. I think it was $6.50 for rice, a meat of choice, an egg roll, and soup. So if you're a starving college student, and you want food that will fill you up, this place will 100% not let you down. We got the sesame chicken and the Mongolian beef to try, and the sesame chicken was pretty good! Juicy pieces, coated just enough to make it lightly crunchy. The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking, but good overall. And portions were big! So an added bonus for that. My disappointment is with the Mongolian beef, which was about 80% onions and spring onions, and then 20% beef. Flavor wise, it wasn't too bad - slightly on the oily side too. Wasn't a fan. Still... Maybe I missed the mark here by not listening to my fellow Yelpers. It seems that they do great with authentic Chinese food, so maybe that's what our next order should be? I still have hope, given their extensive range in the menu. Service was quick, easy, and courteous too! I still have hope for this place, so we'll be back to do more research! read more

This is one of the absolute best Chinese restaurants in the metro and is our favorite. Don't let the building (old Taco Bell) or the not-fancy interior fool you, all of the effort is in the food. We've tried a lot of things but pretty much get the same two entrees and rotate the sauteed greens we choose. Curry chicken potato in casserole and short ribes in brown sauce are our go-entrees and we rotate between bok choy in garlic sauce and hot & sour Nappa cabbage. Both are amazing. read more

Our dine in dinner visit was great, here's why: It's a hole-in-the-wall, yes, but it is clean + attentive service + scrumptious food + terrific value = I'm sold. The go-to appetizer for me is the "lamb string" which is 4 skewers of lamb and it's incredible; crunchy and just right salty on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside; perfectly shareable for two ($4). I was crushing and gushing over the handmade oil sprinkled noodle bowl (small $8.50 / large $10.95) and the hot & spicy chicken ($10)--both a perfect 10/10 for me. Both the oiled sprinkled noodle bowl and the hot & spicy chicken were the perfect level of spicy + bold flavors and they also absolutely nailed the texture, both were cooked to perfection. The hot & spicy chicken needs some white rice with it-be sure to place an order for it as it's not included. They can customize the spice level for those who are thrill-by-pepper seekers. Next time I'm gonna order the large noodle bowl size as it was finders keepers, losers weepers towards the bottom of the bowl that two of us shared. Don't come and expect fancy, fancy isn't here, but good service and delicious food is... and for me, that's what really matters. I'll be back very soon. read more

Two menus, one Americanized, the other authentic Chinese. My first experience with the latter disappointing with a screwed up order. On my latest visit I tried the former, with one of my go-to's, General (Tso's) Chicken. Sadly, another miss and one of the worst I've had locally. Swimming in gooey, super sticky, sugary sauce with no depth of flavor. The included "fried rice" wasn't like any I've ever had..I don't think it was in fact fried at all, just mixed in a bland sauce. Hot & sour soup on the side with very little veggies, but oddly heavy on the cilantro. My husband also tried some, we were split on that one. Soup came nearly boiling hot, so be careful. Strangely enough the inside of my General chicken was also lava hot. I hope a microwave was not involved. Service has been friendly here, but the place is looking rundown these days. So now after trying a few menu items, my experience is still below average Chinese food. I'll leave it at 3 stars, but doubt I will ever return. read more

This hole in the wall has quickly become one of my favorites. Being a sucker for all sorts of Asian food, I knew I had to check this place out after glancing over the menu online. What initially drew me to this place was the hand pulled Hot Oil Noodles and $1 Bao. Now, the noodles were good and fresh tasting with great chew. Very vinegarey as there aren't many ingredients to this dish, but it grew on me. The $1 Bao is definitely appropriately priced. Not a whole lot of meat filling, but still quite delicious, but only with the amazing hot oil. For whatever reason, a lot of Chinese places don't have hot oil, but man oh man, you can add that stuff to anything and it amps it up in flavor and heat. I didn't know much about hot oil until I started watching Strictly Dumpling on YouTube. Mikey Chen made hot oil look so amazing, that I knew I had to try it out. All that being said, if I see now hot oil at a restaurant, I assume they're fairly authentic and I try it out. I have now tried out quite a few items on the very affordable menu and can say it's all been pretty darn good. Some of the standouts have been the flat noodles, jalapeño spicy chicken, and stringed lamb. I HIGHLY recommend you try the stringed lamb appetizer. For $4, you get 4 mouth watering lamb skewers. Now, I've never been a huge fan of lamb, but I realized I was eating it overcooked in Indian food my whole life. The stringed lamb at Wahaha is amazingly juicy, fatty, and so flavor packed with cumin and who knows what else. Pair that with, yeah you guessed it, hot oil, and you have quite the appetizer. I may go back and just get a few orders of that next time. Wahaha is one of my favorite Chinese spots now and I advise you to check them out if you're looking for hand pulled noodles, $1 Bao, juicy lamb, other authentic Asian dishes, and hot oil. read more

It has been awhile since I've been here but it sounded good tonight and it was so good!! The building inside and out looks and is a little run down but that's what makes this place that much more unique. To get to the bathroom you have to go outside to the back of the building and that stinks especially when it's cold like today but worth it because of the food. 2nd worst Dan Dan noodles in OKC. They tasted like the Chinese packets you would get from a regular grocery store to flavor pasta. The person who had the design input on Wahaha Cafe was either partially blind, or possibly suffering from Schizophrenia. It's the most random incorporation of stuff that I've seen in some time: - The table covers are different colors, as are the walls. - One of the walls for some odd reason has Cat in the Hat decals on it. - A majority of the menu signs above the counter are made with poster board and highlighters/sharpies. It's like they got some middle schoolers together and said, "okay kids, we're going to be making menus today, but we're going to let you decide how you want to do it." None of the above is a complaint or affecting the rating in any way. It's just an observation. First Visit: The Taro bubble tea was sooooooo, sooooooo bland. No exaggeration here, but If you had placed a cup of skim milk (with some purple food coloring in it) and the Taro bubble tea in front of me and asked me to differentiate between the two, I wouldn't be able to oblige your request. And it tasted like it looked. And the tapioca was inconsistent (most chewy, some really hard). Also, the Spring Rolls were sooooooo, sooooooo bland (it tasted like cabbage. And cabbage. And cabbage). And tiny. Sooooooo, sooooooo tiny. I was pretty disappointed, but I knew I wanted to give this place another shot (mainly because I saw that they had Dan Dan Noodles on the menu). It took a long time for me to return because I was no longer a college student (which was the main draw to Edmond). Second Visit: We had the Dan Dan Noodles, the Hot & Spicy Chicken, and the Stringed Lamb. All of it was quite delicious. Maybe a tad more salty than I like, but that didn't stop me from eating all the things. I'm kind of curious to know if they use Sichuan peppercorn in their food, because by the end of the meal, the inside of my mouth had a tingly, numb feeling. I don't have allergies so I know it wasn't an allergic reaction, and it wasn't unpleasant or anything. It just felt... effervescent. Oh right, customer service. On point. A cold winter Wednesday saw me trying Wa Ha Ha for the first time. I have driven by it thousands of times. It resides in what was Edmond's original (or one of) Taco Bell. But that was a long time ago. I ordered a daily special. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with egg drop soup, fried rice and an egg roll. The building is crumbling as you might expect a very old fast food structure to do. Surprisingly the food does not belong in such a place the prices are not bad considering the quality and quantity I was served. Chicken was firmly coated with a light batter around the hot and tender chicken. An almost bland seasonless that depended entirely on the the slightly sweet and sour sauce that deserves the name. The fried rice amazingly sticky but not gummy. It had little flavor but was impressive in its texture and size of the grains. The egg drop soup tasted very eggy and smooth a well made version of the ubiquitous Chinese diner offering. The egg roll was smallish with a thick crust and mildly flavored filling. I didn't fall in love with its flavor but I could not fault it on quality. All of the food I was served was of the highest quality. When I was approaching the door of Wa Ha Ha I was a little afraid of what I might find inside. Instead I was blown away by a level of quality that exceeded practically every other Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. While the flavors are nothing to write home about I was impressed with the care that went into the food. Even the quality of the chopsticks was way above the norm.
