I continue to be a regular, but also have to admit that the food quality has fallen off significantly. I recently ordered a pretty large order of all my favorited and they just weren't prepared as well as I had been used to from Wah Kue. The service and and ambiance remain the same but I now rarely make the special trip to seek out my Wah Kue fix. I'll keep checking in occasionally and only hope that the food gets better, as it is key to the success of these great old Seattle restaurants! read more

S.O. raved about this place. He started going here many years ago and liked their food. From the outside, it looks unassuming and your typical mom-and-pop place. We were seated right away. It wasn't very busy but it was rather late in the day. We ordered BBQ pork, almond chicken, pork fried rice. The food came out timely and the portions were okay. BF liked their chow mein underneath but there wasn't enough noodles. The owners were nice and made sure our waters were filled. It was a nice meal but BF did say that it wasn't the same but decent. I live far away and was so excited to be near by and pick up food. The fried rice was so dry.. I'm assuming it was like 3 days old. The garlic wings were good, the honey walnut prawns never disappoint!! Always the best!! But the kung Pau chicken was really lacking flavor and freshness. How can a Chinese restaurant mess up so bad on the rice? I understand times are difficult, but maybe it's time to cook smaller batches so the food is fresh and worth the trip and money! The young gentleman that took my order was great and provided good service. I ordered three entrees for dinner this evening and let's just say that all the food is bland. A little salt and seasoning (sesame oil, soy sauce, or chicken bouillon) would go far. Fast Chinese from Panda is better, so I hope that you can adjust your recipes and improve. It's your average Chinese food! The bad reviews on here seem really dramatic- its a Chinese dive bar that smells like smoke and has the decor and ambiance to match it. While nothing I had was outstanding, everything I had was as expected given the ambiance, shortness of staff, and time of day (late evening on a holiday). I kept it simple with General Tso's, Orange Chicken, hot and sour soup (was really good), veggie chow mein, crab rangoon, and green tea. I will say that the veggie chow mein had a LOT of vegetables in it and minimal noodle so if that ratio could be bumped a little I would like it :) Not bad but not horrible and yes I would go here again. read more

Twice I have ordered through Uber eats and after 3 drivers each time stopped to get my order and it was not ready, after an hour my order was cancelled. I don't have a problem with them focusing on customers at the restaurant, but then they should not be accepting orders they won't fill. The pork chow mein , fried rice , egg rolls , almond chicken and sweet and sour spareribs were all delicious and well packed . He put the almond fried chicken sauce in a separate box which was perfect . The bbq pork was extremely fresh and big , delicious pieces . Unfortunately Mardarin Kitchen in Des Moines, which is our go-to is closed for a week or so, so we came here instead because I had heard good things. I am hugely disappointed and want my money back! Hot and sour soup has no flavor and way too much cornstarch making it a gelatinous tub of paste. Kung pao chicken has no zucchini or even water chestnuts but instead a ton of cheap celery. But that's it,we ordered a Family Dinner and it was BAD, absolutely no flavor in anything and that's not an exaggeration!! The sweet and sour Pork was horrible and tasteless the sauce was like Water thickened with Cornstarch and way too much Caramel food coloring it was BLACK!! My Water had more flavor than my dishes, they need to learn Mandarin and Cantonese flavors, this is no longer a Great place for American Style Chinese food. Wasted my $53.00 don't waste your's. I really wanted to love the food here. The service was delightful and expedient, but the meal? Not so much. Happened to be in the Burien area and needed to pick-up a late dinner. Chinese food was on my mind, and after a brief Yelp search, we quickly ordered from Wag Kue in the last hour of business. I was in the mood for something loaded, greasy, and full of carbs. When browsing their online menu via GrubHub, the Special Chow Mein caught my eye. Shrimp, chicken & BBQ pork with veggies and fried noodles was sure to hit the spot. We even pulled over to get dinner started before making it home - that's how hungry I was All of the meat seemed boiled, not fried, causing a rubbery texture. Chewing on meat soaked in some kind of liquid isn't what I pictured when ordering chow mein. I do appreciate the ample amount of toppings but it was difficult to sift through to find the actual noodles. Once located, they were soft, some burnt, off putting how unevenly cooked they were. This place has been around for decades. It was about 15 years ago (possibly a little more) since I have ate at Wah Kue's. And it was literally the one time. So this is the first time I had their food since the new management. The service was very good. That I would 5 stars for. The 2 people working were pleasant and attentive. The man that helped me offered if I would like tea while I wait and of course I said yes. I figured he would bring a teapot so I turned over a teq cup. Nope he brought me a bug cup of tea and it was the perfect amount. I ordered to-go was Special Chow Mein, Boneless Almond Fried Chicken and an order of egg rolls. Total cane to $45.60 after tax. The of what I ordered was the Boneless Almond Fried Chicken. Chicken was crispy and although a thinner cut it wasn't dry and the gravy/sauce was good. It had good, smooth texture. As for the Chow Mein... it was mediocre. Not horrible and will work in a craving pinch. But I like Happy Garden's Special Chow Mein better. It has better flavor & has beef, chicken, prawns and pork. The main disappointment with the chow mein here was the portion in comparison to the price. Not worth $14.75 in my opinion, especially with it how it tastes. Hands down the biggest disappointment of everything was the egg rolls. Quite frankly my main curiosity. I seen a few pictures of egg rolls on Yelp but they were from years ago and quite obviously before the new management. Because those photos showed a thick and very full egg roll. What I got for $10.95 was 6 tiny egg rolls and they weren't tasty at all. There was hardly any egg if not none at all. Really reminded of what you but frozen in the store. Ambiance is classic retro Chinese. The staff is wonderful. The food is a little overpriced, but the portions are good. Nothing was outstanding. Ordered pork noodles, got chicken, said nothing, no big deal. Super dry. Sweet & Sour chicken, tasty sauce but dry chicken. Mixed veggies nice. Almond fried boneless chicken, usually my favorite and sooo tasty was dry and so overcooked and tough on the edges, we cut off a ton of meat. Probably the most flavor less over cooked chinese food I've ever had. The Salt and pepper chicken wing appetizer was oddly sweet for the amount of seasoning it did not have. Also some of the fried chicken was so cooked it was rock hard. The Kung Pow Chicken was like chewing on a piece of rubber and tatsteless except for the peanuts, it also was not spicy. Just picked up our Christmas Eve family meal for 4 and got home to find one whole entree missing. Went into WahKue tonight to have a casual birthday dinner and ran into a buzz saw. She started accusing one of us as some crazy sexual harassment comments right away. She said " I don't want any crap. I just want to serve you and that's it." She continued all the way to our table. She asked "what groups we were affiliated with." We said we had no idea what she was talking about and she said "you know what you did." We had no idea what she was talking about or referring to. I was so offended that I asked for the owner. I said they need a to fire her for her behavior. It was completely un acceptable. Sh must have been having withdrawals or something. We have been going to WahKue for at least 30 years but we will never ever b going back to WahKue after this terrible experience. read more

I gave it three tries since the new management took over in hopes it was just a fluke, and every time was a very expensive disappointment. The fried rice is bland, the once-huge flavorful egg rolls are now basically frozen spring rolls, and I don't know how you mess up almond chicken and BBQ pork, but...well there you have it. We ate a light portion of each and threw the rest in the trash. What a waste. I will not be returning ever again and it makes me heartsick. It was my favorite Chinese restaurant for almost 40 years. I have been eating at Wah Kuh since I was a child. Their food used to be absolutely AMAZING! Their egg rolls were as big as a burrito, stuffed with contents similar to chow main. Their sweet & sour was great! Not like the sugared vinegar you get now. I still eat there because other places I've dinned at are even worse. But I really miss the old Wah Kuh's. I'm loving the character of this place. I was transported when I walked in. Stuffed sailfish on the shiny gold-patterned wallpaper gave me the vibe that this was old school Chinese. Big, comfy booths in one room, tables in the middle with and a bar with side tables to eat in the third. They are definitely working a retro thing here and the food follows suit. Generous portions and old favorites like egg foo young make you feel like you're in the '70's. I've been a couple times and have also gotten some take out. The family style dinner combos are the best way to go for your first experience here as you'll be able to try a few dishes for a great price. My sweet and sour pork was a very generous helping. The sauce was not that orange stuff we've come to expect from Chinese restaurants but more of a brown sweet and sour. I've seen this type of sauce called "duck sauce" in other Chinese places and think this might be the same here. I like this better as there are more layers of flavor. The pork was cooked perfect, too. Succulent and tender chunks which were lightly battered and fried. These were so perfect, in fact, that my leftovers the next day were not greasy and held up well in the microwave. The house fried rice was not quite what I was hoping for. I was looking for more peas, carrots or green onions for color, flavor and texture and just a tiny bit more of the leftover proteins which make up a house fried rice would have been nice. But I still enjoyed it as the soy and other flavors were all well balanced and it was also not greasy. The place is clean, warm and inviting. And even though there are TVs and music in the background the place is quiet enough to have a conversation. The bathrooms were spotless and fresh smelling and they were well stocked. Table-side service was flawless and hospitable. Even when I'm waiting for a to-go order I'm offered water. That's a small detail for some but I think it shows that the staff want you to feel welcomed, even if its just for a little bit. I'm a fan of Wah Kue and I'll be back. I see other reviews are really trashing the place and the new owners. I hope people give it an honest chance and not give it a bad reviews because it's not the like what it was. Things change a little after 60 years. It's a perfect place to have a med-sized gathering of friends for a birthday, wedding dinner, etc. Will update again when I've had a few more experiences and, hopefully, can give them 5 stars. read more

I have been eating here for years. The last few times we have ordered fried rice it has been terrible. I don't know what is going on at this restaurant but the food has gone way downhill. Also, there is no egg in the fried rice anymore and it is salty and gross. Time to find a new Chinese food! The two stars is for the staff, they are very nice. read more
