WAGWEAR - New York, NY (48 E 11th Street) Wagwear makes excellent dog shoes -- the product itself is great. Unfortunately, the customer service at this specific location is consistently terrible, and after three separate visits, I feel compelled to speak up. This was my third time visiting the 48 E 11th Street store. During my first visit, a younger sales associate was pleasant and helpful. However, even then, an older woman wearing a black sweater was sarcastic and rude. On my second visit, that same woman attempted to rush me out of the store because another dog she preferred was present. I walked out, thought about it, and returned to state that I would be putting my dog's shoes on in-store. I still spent over $100 that day, yet I was treated as though my presence was an inconvenience. Today, on my third visit, I returned hoping there would be a change. There wasn't. I came in with my son to purchase shoes for my golden doodle puppy. Both older women working were dismissive and offered very minimal help. They seemed uncomfortably concerned about my puppy, as if he were going to do something wrong -- despite the fact that their dog (a miniature pinscher) approached my dog first, which they then quickly moved away. This interaction made me feel uncomfortable and singled out. Based on repeated experiences, I seriously doubt this behavior is applied equally to all customers. I personally witnessed noticeably different energy and attention given to dogs and customers they seemed to favor during a previous visit. To make matters worse, when I asked a simple question about whether the store offers any trade-in or discount options for previously purchased shoes (due to an impulsive buy), the woman in the black sweater responded sarcastically: "Well, if you grow out of pants, stores don't take those back." This comment was unnecessary, rude, and incorrect. When I corrected her -- as some stores do offer such programs -- she responded defensively rather than professionally. Overall, the tone, dismissiveness, and sarcasm from the staff -- particularly the older employees -- create an unwelcoming and tense environment. As a person of color, the treatment felt uncomfortable and outdated, with an edge that has no place in retail today. This store needs management involvement and serious staff retraining. Great products do not excuse disrespectful or biased customer service. I love the shoes, but I will not continue supporting a location where I feel unwelcome and disrespected. read more

My 2 boys always step out on the streets of NYC with their WagWear booties which I highly recommend. They protect their paws from the dirt, and grime of who knows what. It gives me a peace of mind seeing them safe. Not to mention, summer days, the sidewalks are extremely hot, I personally think it's cruel to let our dogs paws burn on the hot side walks while we cover our feet's during the summer and winter. I was very disappointed with my experience at wag wear. I recently moved into the city and brought my two dogs to get fitted for their own boots. Upon arriving, the door was locked and there was not one single person working. I saw a little sign that said someone would be back within 15 minutes. I ended up waiting well over 25 minutes before a staff member showed up...The interaction with this staff member was very short as it seemed like she wanted me out of the store asap. On top of that, I realized that the actual boot itself was low quality and thin. Be aware of the fact that your dogs nails on the side may tug. Within five minutes of walking, my dog was whimpering and licking his paws. I would like to factor in that his nails are trimmed often. So, over grown nails is not the issue. It is clear that he was feeling some sort of discomfort and pain. I plan to return these boots... wag wear is not worth if people! read more

My Brittany dog , Bonnie is pear shaped. It's cute but finding clothes for her can be difficult. She's a large in width but medium in height and length. Wagwear is where it's at for dogs like her. It's a cute shop with several sizes and fits of coats or sweaters. The sweaters look beautiful with cable knit designs in all sorts of colors. But I was shopping for a winter coat for Bonnie. The saleswoman was amazing at finding the perfect coat. We tried a few coats in different sizes and the saleswoman considered not only the best size but my dogs comfort. It's a bit pricey as the coat I chose for Bonnie was 75 but it will last many cold winters. It's worth her comfort ! read more

I really really wanted to love this brand, but there are definitely things that need to be improved. Our first experience was in the flagship store in NY on June 25th 2021. The door was locked (during business hours).. I can't remember if we rang a doorbell or just knocked, but we had to wait for someone to come and unlock the door. I thought this was very strange that we couldn't just walk in during business hours. When the young girl opened the door she welcomed us, but went straight to the back to sit down and browse her phone. I had questions and had to call her from the back area where she was sitting. I wanted to purchase wag wellies and custom bags for my large pups. We are new to NY and have seen other NYers fashion large ikea bags with 4 holes in the bottom so they could take their dogs on the train (There's a rule that your dog must be in a bag to ride the train) . I explained to this to the girl and asked if they would be able to customize a bag like that for us. She said they do customize bags and proceeded to give us a tape measure so we can get measurements from our dog. She wrote everything down and we paid for the order. After having left the store, I realized she didn't give me my credit card back. I had to walk back to the store and the credit card was still in the machine. Fast forward to over a week later, with no email confirmation of "we are working on your order" or anything of that sort I get a phone call from the manager of the store Vivian. She told me the girl had made a mistake to take the order of the custom bag and she didn't know what she was doing. I think that the girl... I forget her name, but if you look at the cameras for the afternoon of June 25th, you will know who she is... needs more training with customer service, being more attentive to customers, watching the store a little bit better, keep the doors unlocked for customers to not have a hard time to come in and learning what the company does and does not do. This experience did not sit well with me. As for the wag wellies, they are super cute!! I get stopped just about everywhere in Manhattan and people ask me where I got the pup shoes from. They even ask to take pictures of my pups in the shoes! They stay on very well! There was only 1 instance where one shoe slipped off, but luckily someone let me know so we didn't lose the shoe. My Golden wears size large and she does fine wearing that same size on all 4 paws, but my lab mix got a size XL and after trying it out for some time we realized that her front paws didn't fit the XL size and we needed to get a size up. Unfortunately they don't mix and match sizes so if your pup has different sizes you'll end up having to purchase 2 separate sizes which will run you $100. I ordered the XXL size on June 8th and didn't receive the order until June 22nd. There were issues with the size and color i ordered but I was not notified. I messaged the company twice and did not receive a response to these messages until AFTER I called the store and spoke with Vivian. She was apologetic, but again this was not a good look for the company. When I opened my order I realized they sent me the wrong size! Again another issue... They sent me XL instead of XXL... I messaged Amy Harlow which I believe is the owner of the company and she apologized and told us we could keep the set and she would get the right ones mailed out. The right Size came 2 days later on June 24th. Today is July 30th, and after having my pups wear the wag wellies daily, unfortunately they did not hold up... the bottoms wore down and there are holes sadly. These shoes didn't last long, but I truly love the design and wish they were more durable. I'm hoping that maybe the owners will see this review and try do something to make the shoes more durable. We haven't had the shoes long at all. :-( read more

I bought my dog Corky a little Wagwear jacket here a few years ago; we were walking by here yesterday and I thought we'd stop in. I promised Corky that we wouldn't try anything on. The man in the store, Jimmy, told me that they manufacture in Long Island City and distribute worldwide; they love 'em in Japan. I'm a fan of any business that manages to stay in the city and even manufacture here. I've seen their dog clothes and leashes a lot--the "flag" raincoat is popular with a lot of dogs I know--but always like stopping into this boutique. When it comes to dressing my dogs, it's all about it being functional. No silly costumes or bedazzled collars. Bought a vest for my Boston Terrier last winter as he gets cold in the winter time. Quality was good, it's super easy to put on him and it looks great! Fast forward to this summer, went back to the store, worked with Jimmy and got a great dog carrier bag. I saw it in another Yelp review that they do alterations or customizations on their products and thought it was for clothing only, but I guess they were able to accommodate me with my bag as well! My Frenchie is a bit tall and long for their XL size bag, so I was able to bring my Frenchie and the bag in and worked with Jimmy to see what kind of adjustments were needed. He sent the bag to the LIC shop and I got the customized bag a week later. I look forward to bringing my pups back to get their perfect doggie wear fit. read more

She was well informed, had a good sense for what products would be good for my pup, and was super friendly and patient as I struggled to work out the kinks on the harness. I'd seen Wagwear clothing before -- they distribute their line to many dog stores on both coasts -- but it was a pleasant experience to walk into their storefront on the east side (think preppy boutique). The staff and owner are super friendly and tolerant of my energetic dog who likes to think she's small enough to fit into beds and tents that are much too small for her. I picked up a nice sweater for my dog, Miya, so she could stay warm in cold NYC weather. Yes, it's pricey, but on par with most nicely designed dog accessories. read more

Walked over after viewing nauseating clothing of Petco....my dog may be female but she is not wearing pink! I was immediately soothed by the beautiful quality and colors of the coats and sweaters. The gentlemen helping me was patient and helpful. I got an awesome reflective coat with a removable insert for warmer weather. It wasn't cheap, but I have no problem spending money on quality. Jimmy is the best. I live in San Francisco so it was hard for me to visualize what kind of carrier to get for my puppy. I have been looking for a camo dog carrier in London and couldn't find one that was cool and functional. I was going to be visiting NYC and was recommended to check out Wagwear. Wagwear didn't just have one camo bag, but THREE different ones to choose from. I emailed Wagwear two weeks before my trip asking if they could hold the bags and they said no problem. To be honest, I was a bit doubtful that they would hold items for so long, but to my surprise I walked in, said my name, described the situation and email correspondence and voila - a bag with my name and the samples were all there. I checked them out and bought the small tote that I liked. It was exactly what I was looking for. There were so many other cool things in the store like a little tent for dogs! The items are not cheap, but you can tell that they're well made. I also like the fact that everything is designed and made in NYC. Will I go back? Absolutely! I found this store in desperation about 10 years ago (during that horrendously rainy summer!) when I couldn't find hooded rainwear that properly fit my English bulldog Spike who absolutely refused to walk in the rain. I found a great all-weather raincoat with a substantial quilted removable lining at Wagwear. Although somewhat pricey, it is very high quality and was a good value as it took care of wet/warmth wear for both winter and summer with one purchase. What is really nice is that the "hood" sits over the top of the dog's head and doesn't require you to tie it on in any way (Spike hates anything constraining) which was one of the fit issues I was grappling with. It's also really easy to put on.. two velcro straps make it really easy to get a good fit - with the only caveat being that the hole for the leash is a bit high so you have to use a collar, not a harness, with it . The coat and lining have held up wonderfully these 10 years The only issue I had is that the leash opening isn't reinforced and it started rippping and fraying a bit from all the leash tension after about 6 or 7 years, and is difficult to repair. It didn't really impact the usability of the coat, so I'm just now feeling after 10 years, that I need to replace it. But it will definitely be with a new Wagwear all-weather coat! Just got a Frenchie puppy as well, and will definitely be visiting Wagwear to purchase a similar item for her as soon as she reaches her approximate adult size... read more

Love their stuff. After 8.5 years of the same harness and leash it was time for a new set of Wagwear. Was happy that I could now go to their store. Bought an updated version. Part of the reason I love it is that the beige just disappears on my dog's fur. The owner was super nice. I felt bad as she had to take her dogs outside so that me and my dog could go in. Disappointed with service and lack of response. I made an online purchase, received an order confirmation email, and my card was charged. 3 weeks later I had not received the product or any additional emails...when you call the store no live person answers. They have an answering service to which I left my name, phone number, order number and an explanation of the situation requesting a return call with an update...no call back. 5 days later I call again, leave another voice message, send an email and my friend posts on their Facebook page. I finally get an email 2 days later (almost one month after my order was placed) with a shipping confirmation and a "sorry don't know what happened with this" email. Still no phone call and they declined my request for a discount or even a promo code on a next purchase as compensation. Good news is that my order was finally delivered. I was hoping to be able to recommend this place to others, but sadly I will avoid shopping here again in the future. read more

In all honesty I really wished I could've gave this place 5 stars. I love their bag designs and the stuff they had. I also think it's a great idea how everything is made to order. When I visited the staff there were friendly. However, there was one major flaw! BAD management! My friend helped me order the shopping carrier by phone call in beige since they did not have it in stock in the store. He was told it will be in the store by Thursday for pick up. When Thursday hit, my friend called to see if it was in store a couple of times and nobody picked up the phone. He also called Friday and no one picked up. He was pretty sure it should've arrived by Saturday since we were promised it would be in store by Thursday. So we drove an hour out to the city to pick up the bag on a Saturday afternoon and when we arrived the staff there said no notice was left and the bag wasn't there. And supposedly the person my friend spoke to on the phone to have the bag delivered and held in store was the store manager... Even if they didn't have the bag they should've gave us a call or left a note or something. Somehow they didn't pick up phone calls and when we showed up we got nothing. In the end, we ended up paying in the store on the spot for them to order one for pick up for next week (my friend could've done that on the phone when he first called... no idea why they didn't put in an order for him). Now we have to drive out again next week to pick up the bag. I think everyone here is probably real nice. And the store is pretty awesome. But in all honesty... with management like that... I think we customers deserve an apology. And I sincerely hope that this review reaches your company and I hope this won't happen to other customers in the future because it really ruins the reputation of an awesome establishment such as yourself. read more
