Since my incounter with a staff member of Wagetime, my relationship has improved. Although I never spoke to the owner as I was told, the staff in charge did there best to resolve the issue. I'm of the mindset of loyalty and truth. If you are honest and truthful about any situation that may occur, I can work with you. With that being said, my previous dog groomer of 2 years has moved to Australia. So, now I'm in the market for a new grooming service. Since Wagetime, is a full service salon I'm going to take a chance. I'm trusting that they will handle my baby boy Dezi with care. If all go's well, then we will be on the road to full trust again. I've been taking my cat, Patty, to Wagtime for her annual lion cut (don't judge me!) for about 3 years now. She's a Maine Coon mix and has a ton of hair. She looks so miserable in the summer months, so I decided to give Wagtime a try. Now, she's less miserable in summer, but looks like a ridiculous overgrown rat. Good thing she has no idea. Here are my things about Wagtime: First favorite thing: The friendly staff. Everyone there seems to be so friendly both to me and Patty. I always have a good experience with staff and they're pretty accommodating to my needs when they can be. They're also fun to talk to and return my calls during the day if I need to check in about something or change my pick-up time. Next favorite thing: The groomer. He's really funny and friendly, and really seems to care about Patty and get to know her. He'll give me a call if he's worried that Patty is acting weird (or weirder than usual). Last favorite thing: The location. It's right in front of Blagden Alley surrounded by a lot of good food, coffee shops, and art. I'm able to drop Patty off and go do some work at a nearby coffee shop, or grab breakfast pretty easily. The parking also isn't as bad as you'd think in that part of town during the day. Not-so-favorite thing: One time there was some miscommunication between the upstairs staff and the groomer about timing. The staff told me that Patty will be ready by 4, but when I arrived to pick her up at 4 she's still got about 2 hours left! I had to find a coffee shop and hang out for a couple hours until she was done, which made me late to another commitment. That was pretty annoying, but it only happened once. STAY AWAY! If I had to give two words to describe Wagtime, it would be "wholly incompetent." I have taken my dog here twice for a groom. The shop is quite nice inside though it is incredibly small and you can't see where the dogs are actually being groomed. Each time I have visited Wagtime, I dropped my dog off well within the window on a Saturday morning. The first time, the staff informed me my dog would be ready at 4:30 p.m. The second time I took my dog to Wagtime, I dropped him off even earlier because the staff told me he would be done sooner, around 3:30 p.m. To clarify, my dog is a 40 pound goldendoodle. He is very low maintenance and his groom does not require a doodle blowout because I get him shaved every time he gets groomed. This means most matting is not much of a problem for most groomers since all the hair is coming off anyway. I have been to many groomers in many different cities so I know this very well. I made the style of groom I wanted abundantly clear each time I went in. I even provided photos and the staffer said she would get them to the groomer. The first time I took my dog in, I got a call from Wagtime at 3:30 p.m. asking me how I wanted my dog groomed. I found this puzzling since I had already clarified how I wanted him cut -- buzzed down and his face a little shaved down too. I had also provided pictures? My dog was not ready until nearly 6 p.m., an hour and a half after they originally told me he would be done. Not only was my dog's groom lengthy, but they nicked him in several places and used the entirely wrong razor on his ears which were irritated and bright red when we got home. The second groom went only a little better. The cut was fine and there were no nicks except this time, they missed entire pieces of hair on my dog's face and so the cut was uneven. Imagine my surprise when my dog wasn't finished until 5 p.m. despite the fact that I had told them I needed to pick him up at 4 p.m. and despite the assurances he would be finished on time. Not only did Wagtime take forever, but they consistently keep calling my emergency contact to tell them my dog is finished being groomed despite me telling them to stop calling him. He lives in Florida and can't possibly come pick my dog up. If all of this wasn't annoying enough, Wagtime also upcharged me the second time I went in for a groom. When I went in the first time, my total was $85. The second time, the groom somehow came out to $100 total, a $15 price increase from the last groom. I asked why this was and they said they had given me some kind of deal the first go around and that the groomer determines the price of the groom at the end of the groom. That's nice (sarcasm) because it means the groomer can essentially upcharge you whatever he wants you to pay that day and you just have to deal with it. I don't think so. I asked for a refund of the difference and they ran my card again (said they were having issues with issuing the refund and told me to check my card tomorrow). I had to be somewhere which Wagtime made me late for because of their incompetence, so I vowed to check back the next day or two to make sure they had processed the difference. Three days passed and it became clear to me that they were waiting to see if I'd notice they never refunded me the difference. Very dishonest. Apparently, to make me feel better when I called, they told me they usually charge $120 for goldendoodle grooms. They initially refused a refund altogether and then, after much pushback from me, offered to charge me $97 instead of $100 for the groom (gee, what a *great* discount, a whole $3!), contrary to what the staffers said about me getting the entire $15 back. Again, totally dishonest and misleading. I was also informed in this phone call that an "early pickup" costs $20, something I was not told upfront -- not that it really mattered anyway because my dog's groom wasn't actually over until two hours after the time they originally told me. A few days after the groom I noticed my dog came down with kennel cough. This leads me to believe the grooming area is not wiped down or disinfected. My dog doesn't have any sort of group gathering with other dogs so I literally can't think of any other way he would have gotten this. I raised a lot of hell with this place after the second groom and initially felt bad about it because I was very frustrated with them. As I write all of these grievances out, I see why I was very upset. There is a pattern of inconsistency here. On the surface, the staff seem very helpful but it is now very obvious that this is some dog and pony show and that this is a facade. They do not care about you. They do not care about your pet. I will advise everyone to avoid this place and will be taking my business elsewhere, even if it means I have to drive outside of the city to get my dog groomed by real professionals who know what they are doing and know how to properly treat customers and their pets. read more

Do not take your dog there! I took my dog to get groomed and when I picked him up he kept squinting. I didn't think much of it so I kept an eye on him through out the day but he kept squinting and rubbing his eyes. He was not doing that prior to taking him to the groomer since he was fine all week. The next morning my dogs eyes were crusted shut with a green discharge so I took him to the vet and they told me that he had bilateral ulcers in his eyes most likely from getting soap in his eyes or from having too much dust/hair which irritated his eyes causing him to rub them and causing him to rub off his cornea. THIS COULD HAVE COST HIM HIS VISION! I am not taking my dog there again. Everyone is nice except that the grooming area is not very clean. Will need to take my dogs somewhere else for grooming! read more

I worked at Wagtime for almost a year and have seen and heard some terrible things. Many of the employees who work at the daycare are kind and gentle. However, there are a number of daycare attendants who are abusive to the dogs (hitting and screaming). I even heard a valid story that one of the workers picked up a small dog and threw it against a wall. The owners frequently go against regulation and keep many more dogs in the daycare than allowed. One of the employees who worked in the front, Emily, continuously talked down to employees in the daycare and treated them like dirt. Rude, condescending remarks all the time. Having said that, the dogs that came here were great, which was why I stayed. Unfortunately, it was the people that made it an unbearable place to work. read more

We had been using Wagtime for 3 years for dog-walking and grooming, until a few weeks ago. My dog came back from the groomer with one eye that was bright red and wouldn't fully open. We took him to the emergency vet afterwards and they told us he had a ulcer on his cornea. Now I know accidents happen, but the way the groomer and wagtime handled it wasn't that great. I called first to ask if they groomer noticed anything and let him know what happened and they didn't call back. I called again and the groomer said nothing was wrong. The 3rd time I spoke to the customer service manager and offered me a free grooming, but didn't acknowledge that I had to pay $400 in medical bills because of my dogs eye. Never going back again or trust that Wagtime would do the right thing. read more

We LOVE Wagtime!! Wonderful staff and just a great environment for our little pup, Frankie. They also take great care of him and I always know he is in good hands there. How many dogs must die? My dog died at Wagtime on Monday after a weekend of boarding and before a grooming appointment. He was perfectly healthy, 10 years old. Maybe it is just one of those things. But I learned during a phone call when the owner screamed at me, lied to me and then dumped the news of my dog's death in the most brutal possible tone. Do not touch this place. I will go ahead and agree with Gingers review of wagtime. My experience with them was just distasteful. After picking up my puppy and noticing a severe change in his behavior I contacted Lisa at wagtime and the response I got was so condescending and rude that I was left feeling so confused as to how this person could run a successful business. Needless to say my response was not encoraging to return business. There are many other businesses that do not have confrontational and condescending owners. I appreciate passionate people, but I do not appreciate a rude business owner. My puppy would not eat for a full 12 hours after leaving wagtime, he had a bruise on him as if he was fighting with bigger dogs, and was just not as happy. I relayed this to Lisa and as Ginger said, I got nothing but rudeness in return. I will not go back to wagtime and will insist my friends also not bring business to that business. First time patron! This started because I was tired of taking Barry far away for grooming, so after registering online, I called to make a haircut appointment at their 9th St location. They had availability that week! Since I work normal hours, they recommended he stay the full day for a free trial run of daycare- why not! That way, going forward if I can't find a sitter, I can just drop him off anytime I want. DAYCARE DROP OFF: I wish I'd gotten to see/tour the actual dog pen, because it doesn't look the nicest when they round that corner out of the lobby/store. One other complaint: I left him a bunch of food for lunch & dinner (just in case he couldn't stomach the food they feed), but I never got any leftovers of the big amount I left. GROOMING: I loved his haircut, and they followed my instructions! But the $70 price +$10 tip was a bit more than I expected for a well behaved 9 pound dog. He did smell so nice, though- like baby powder. DAYCARE PICKUP: He was energetic and thirsty when we got home, which made me question how much activity or feeding he got. But after about an hour, BOY was my lively pup knocked out the rest of the night! He must've had fun. THE STAFF: Super friendly! Their pep can be mistaken for being salesy though... "You sure Barry can't come back tomorrow? He made so many friends!" I liked that they sent an update email in the middle of the day saying he passed his trial run and got along with the other dogs. I really would've loved a photo of him playing though, just to make me feel that much more taken care of. OVERALL: I have my qualms, but honestly people seem to like this place, and I don't want to judge too harshly after one visit. And even if it's a little expensive, the location/convenience is probably worth it. No major complaints! They did the job. I won't be going back regularly for now, but I may start dropping him off for a visit every once in a while. read more

First, I should mention that no one working there seems to know the exact times the groomer is going to be at the establishment for the day. I called several times to schedule a time to come and was given time windows when a groomer "might" be there. I was offered to leave my dog there for the day, pay the boarding fee, and the groomer would get to him at some point in the day. The one time I was able to stop in for a nail trim on a Friday afternoon, was the LAST time I'll take him there. When I brought my pup in, I made the employees aware that he does not like getting his nails trimmed so would need some coaxing. They took him downstairs to trim his nails with the dremmel as I requested and returned 5 mins later and told me they were unable to trim his nails because he was "freaking out". I wasn't surprised to hear of a struggle, but was surprised that two professionals were not able to do the job that the groomers at Doggiestyle had several times before. I left and decided to ask a friend help me do the trimming myself at home. I was even more disappointed to find out, later when I got home, that the groomers actually had trimmed a couple of his nails, although, too far and made him bleed. They also scraped two of his paws with the dremmel. No wonder he was "freaking out". They were too afraid to tell me that they hurt my pup and blamed their lack of service on him. read more

We had used Wagtime multiple times in the past without incident, but the last experience was enough to make me swear off the place, and suggest you look elsewhere if you love your pets as much as we do. We had booked Wagtime's home pet-sitting service to watch our three cats and one beta fish while we were on a two-and-half week vacation. Our cats--two of whom are big, fluffy, sweet Maine Coons--are incredibly affectionate, and demand lots of affection from whomever is watching them, because they love to be petted, scratched and rubbed. We also had an agreement for them to water our plants, which they had done in the past. When we returned from the trip, it was pretty obvious from the smell when we walked into the door that something was very, very wrong. Turns out the fish was dead, as were most of the plants having never been watered. Most importantly, though, all three cats were practically in a state of panic. It was very clear from their behavior that nobody had spent any time loving on them, and it took a week for them to get anywhere close to something like a normal routine. In the past, while they're always thrilled to see us return, they were never freaking out like they did on this last trip. Furious, we contacted Wagtime for some answers. Despite promises to call us back, they never did, and eventually, the manager just stopped taking our calls. I left another one-star review on their Facebook page, to which there was no response until 40 days later--when someone else complained about a similar terrible experience with his dog. Suddenly, Jason, the pet-sitter, was there calling me a liar, saying not only that I'd never told him to water the plants on this last trip, but that I'd never asked him on any previous trip, which simply is NOT true. He also claimed that he had given the cats enough attention, but I know my cats better than I know many of my blood relatives, and that is simply not the case. It's infuriating to me that Wagtime takes your money and doesn't treat your furry family members the way they should be. It's even worse when they lie about their customers to try and escape their own incompetence. I suspect that, you're like me, and want the best treatment possible for your four-legged friends. Let me tell you--Wagtime is NOT the place where you're going to get that. read more

We brought our dog here for a year or so and thought everything was great. It was convenient to drop her off before work and pick her up on the way home, living in Logan Circle and working in Chinatown. She came home with a couple of parasites and an upset stomach a few times but figured that was just what happens at a daycare where there are lots of other dogs around (that may or may not be showing symptoms). She'd also smell like a public bathroom from whatever cleaning solution they use. After about six months or so, she started exhibiting some anxiety around men, mostly tall men. Chalked it up to her growing up and becoming more protective, but then she started really hating going to wagtime. She'd get stressed out the second we'd turn the corner to 9th street and very reluctantly enter the wagtime building. The last time I took her, she refused to go up the stairs into the daycare area. I wish I had seen the red flags sooner. I have no specific proof that her anxiety issues stem from her stays at wagtime, but based on my own (and my partner's) experiences there, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised. I now work from home (thankfully) and found a great place for boarding where she is ecstatic to go to each time. read more

Crosby has just returned from his 2nd visit to Wagtime for a grooming, and yet again, he looks like a million dollars (which I guess is currently 486,855 GBP!!). Very friendly service, for an extra cost they will pick up and drop off your little pup, keep him there for the day if it makes more sense for your work schedule, and each time Crosby has come back SO happy - he gets to play with the other pooches all day, and he's always thoroughly exhausted - perfect! Wagtime also offers a dog-walking service, as well as day-care and boarding. It is a cage-free facility, so your pup will need to be "socially evaluated" before he's let loose on the other pups (I don't think this extends to being able to use a knife and fork, but Crosby passed, so it can't be too tough of an evaluation!). They even offer doggie-massages from a certified animal massage therapist! And if you're more of the feline persuasion, they offer cat home care visits if you need someone to play with kitty for 30 minutes while you're on vacation. Oh, and they have a pet-store there too - what more can you ask for??? A web-cam so you can watch your pup while you're away? Yep, they got that as well. We're definitely satisfied customers, and Crosby is a satisfied, and mightily handsome client...! read more

After years of taking my Pug to Wagtime they have done an excellent job of ensuring I never patronize this establishment again. 1st they couldn't find my records so I have to re register my dog, OK , no big deal. Then after I scheduled an appointment on Wednesday, I get an email on Friday saying I needed to update vaccinations. I called Saturday @ 10:50am to reschedule my appt due to the need for an update of vaccinations. I was notified that not only am I unable to bring my dog in but I will be charged for a no show?!! So I'm charged $45 for a no-show, that would be impossible for me to show. Based on recent reviews clearly this place has gone down hill. They just lost yet another lifetime customer. My wife and I decided to bring our dog to Wagtime's doggy daycare to help socialize him. During our first visit our puppy was placed in the small dog pen. Later that day I received a call from the staff at Wagtime letting me know that our puppy had been "nipped" by an other dog. When I went to pick him up his left leg was so badly swollen that he could barely put any weight on it. I took him to the vet immediately where the vet told me that he could have permanent nerve damage. We took care of him as our vet advised and luckily he recovered. I should have listened to my instincts which were telling me never to bring him back again, but Wagtime's staff apologized profusely and explained that the smaller dogs were intimidated by his size and height. (As experienced professionals shouldn't they have known not to place him in with the smaller dogs?) They insisted that I bring him back and this time they would put him in with the bigger dogs which they claimed would be better for him. Later that day my wife received a call from our vet's office (NOTE: NOT WAGTIME) telling us that they could fit our dog in for an emergency appointment. My wife proceeded to call Wagtime immediately and no one answered the phone! By the time she called me she was distraught and crying. I rushed over to our vet's office only to hear that my dog was on his way (STILL NO CALL FROM WAGTIME). When my dog arrived at the vet's office he was covered in blood and could barely walk. He had 10 puncture wounds all over his head and body. One of which went through his ear and into his neck. The vet rushed him into their emergency room and quickly treated his injuries. Meanwhile, my wife finally got ahold of the groomer at Wagtime who witnessed the entire attack. As he was the only staff member to answer the phone after nearly an hour after the attack happened. The groomer informed her that our puppy was playing with a ball and rolled it toward a group of three other dogs in the same pen. Immediately these three other dogs piled on top of our puppy and proceeded to attack him. Our vet wanted to keep our puppy for additional observation, so I went to Wagtime to speak to someone face to face as I still had not received a call from anyone at Wagtime. Just before walking into Wagtime my cell phone finally rang. Wagtime's owner Ofer called to inform me as to what happened. Needless to say I made it clear that i would not be brining our puppy back to Wagtime. While sitting in the waiting room at the vet's office before picking up our puppy we met two other owners that had bad experiences with Wagtime, one of which had a dog that lost half an ear during a doggy daycare session! When she questioned Wagtime's staff she was told that "these things happen when you put dogs together." Regardless of the number of 5 star reviews on this site there are enough one star reviews to make you seriously change your mind about brining your beloved pets to Wagtime. It's clear that there is obviously a lack of competence among the staff and ownership when it comes to pet care. In fact, a quick web search will show you a blog devoted to warning pet owners about Wagtime. Don't let your pet be the next victim. read more

I don't give out five stars lightly. What's more, my dog is miserable at Wagtime. Let me explain... I have a persnickety rescue dog--strike one. She's a Pomeranian--strike two. She loathes being around other dogs--strike three, she's out. Or is she? After a recent overnight, I arrived at 12:30am and the overnight staffer, John, was kind enough to let me in to retrieve her. Big kudos for that. When I found her, she was hiding under a bench, behind a big bucket, and looked pitifully miserable. I know she's well treated there, but she just hates the big, open room (even the segregated room for "little dogs" is too much for her). At some point, the owner, Lisa, sensed my pup's discomfort and brought her down to hang out at the front desk. Big kudos. Distraught, I emailed Lisa the next day to say that while I love her facility and the people there, I just can't leave my dog at a place where she's so unhappy. Lisa, who also has a Pomeranian, immediately offered to take my girl home with her at night so that she'd not be left. This is above and beyond the call of duty, and redefines the whole notion of customer service. Meanwhile, the grooming service is great--fairly priced (for DC), as is daycare. There's even a valet service to escort your dog from the car on busy 9th Street during rush hour. While the jury is still out on whether we can keep going to Wagtime, this is no fault of the place or its owner. Most dogs love being able to run around in the open; mine just isn't one of them. But for the owner to offer to keep my dog at her house to make her more comfortable speaks volumes about this place and its corporate ethos. read more

I started taking my dog here for daycare about two weeks ago and immediately red flags went up. Customer service is horrible, the phone is never answered, and my dog did not want to go inside after the first visit. I chalked this up to a new transition but after the third visit she came home with red eyes and discharge (read other reviews!). I I kept her home for a few days and the discharge and red eyes went away. I took her back today -- she came home with bloodshot eyes and acted like a maniac when picked up. The staff never gave me a good feeling that they were compassionate about animals or cared to be there. Time to listen to my intuition. Look up K9 Divine. We've been here before -- they do daycare and boarding on a multi acre, cage less farm in MD. Costs maybe $10 more and they pick up/drop off. Avoid this place. Your pet will thank you. read more

Victor, my 2-year-old bull terrier mix, comes here for daycare about once a week for the socialization, exercise, and relief when S and I both have long days. It is wonderful! We switched over from Your Dog's Best Friends in Alexandria because the commute was killing us and the daycare hours ended too early (S had to leave work super early to pick up V in time, considering the traffic he'd have to sit in). We were sad to have to make the switch but are thrilled with our new experiences at Wagtime. For one, their hours are longer. For us DC denizens it's conveniently located. I love the webcam, on which I can watch my dog playing and settling in, so I have some peace of mind. The best part, though is that Victor loves going and does not get stressed out. He forgets we're there and happily trots away from us at valet barking (outdoor drop off). Then at the end of the day he is happy to see us but doesn't seem too eager to escape. I can see via webcam that he relaxes there. Then he sleeps soundly and is more manageable for the next few days. read more

In my house, we have to spell out W-A-G-T-I-M-E, lest the puppy overhear and get too excited. He has the route to daycare memorized (not too difficult, given that I bought a place - in part - for its proximity to Wagtime) and pulls with all his 12 lbs to get me there quicker. I literally could not have a dog without Wagtime; with my long hours, it just wouldn't be fair to the little guy. Fortunately, I know that I'm leaving my dog in a place where he is safe and loved. He generally hates being anywhere without me, but Wagtime has become his second home and he's clearly happy as can be there. Owners Lisa and Ofer cultivate an environment where dogs come first. (I mean, they built a roofdeck for the dogs. Clearly, they love them some pups. And Ofer is currently shopping for a playground set for the dogs. I kid you not.) Everyone at Wagtime goes above and beyond. I'm so thankful to have them in my neighborhood! read more

Wagtime's redeeming quality is convenience. If you live in the Shaw/14th Street area of town, Wagtime is conveniently located and is capable of handling all of your pet needs. But that's where the positives end. I have two issues with Wagtime. 1. My dog hates Wagtime and has had bad experiences being boarded here. 2. The grooming here/quality of the employees is terrible. I have been here multiple times, so this is not from a "lone experience." But I am writing this review now as my parting shot. This will be the last time I ever let my dog set foot in Wagtime. So as I said, my dog hates Wagtime. Wagtime is the one boarding place that she hates. When I turn the corner on 9th and N, my dog stops in her tracks, looks up at me, and gives me this look as if I am betraying her. She hates it. And it is the only dog store that she hates. She's been to others (Doggy Style, Howl to the Chief) and has been boarded by friends (all of whom she is always ecstatic to see, especially when other dogs are around). But she hates Wagtime. I don't know what is going on in there, but my loving, playful, happy hound hates Wagtime. I'll let you make of that what you will. The other issue is grooming and the quality of their personnel. Their personnel are incoherent, incompetent, and inarticulate. It is often difficult to understand what they are saying. Just today, I received a call from someone about my dog and he had no idea my dog was there for grooming. A few months ago, we brought our dog in to get her nails cut (that was the only thing we brought her in for) and we got her back with no cut and a bill. Every time I come to the store and speak with their staff, I am dealing with people who inspire little confidence in me that they love dogs, love pets, or are there for any reason other than a paycheck. There are plenty of quality pet service providers in Washington, DC. Wagtime's services and personnel deserve a D+ or C-. They aren't great, but they are there when you need them. There is a reason why on holiday weekends Wagtime is the last dog boarder to run out of space--it is because everyone is sending their dogs elsewhere. Unfortunately for Wagtime, no amount of convenience can overcome the bad feeling I have every time I take my dog there. Some of the reviews I've read here seem to be corroborated by my dog's experience. I don't have first hand knowledge of the boarding conditions, so I can't and won't speak to that. But just reading some of the stuff on here is disconcerting. Every time I go there I tell myself "this will be the last time." This time it actually will be. read more

We are on a long road trip with our Yorkie, Beast. We have used several daycares. This one is the best. From the moment I walked into the place, I could tell that the staff loves animals. They treated Beast great, treated us with respect and best of all, Beast wasn't an emotional wreck when we picked him up because he wasn't scared all day. So much hate for Wagtime here on Yelp! It's really surprising because it is so crowded/popular every time I'm there, I guess none of the loyal clients write yelp reviews! We are part time wagtime boarders. Not everyday like the die hards (and rich people lol), but probably 4-6 times a month depending on our needs. A day of boarding is $35, but if you buy a package that rate goes down to $33/$31 (depending on how much you pay). The best part about buying a package is that you can pick up your pup late at night without an additional charge. I would say this is my favorite part of Wagtime. If I'm paying that much I like to get my money's worth and not rush home from work/dinner/whatever, I feel totally cool leaving her there till 9 or 10pm. My little 4 legged terrorist LOVES wagtime and comes home SOOO SLEEPY which is amazing, because on a normal day 9pm is "lets take out all the toys and bark at you until you throw every single one for me to go fetch time!" But not on wagtime days, she can barely keep her eyes open! Everyone I've encountered at wagtime has been super nice and professional, so I'm surprised to read some of the other reviews admonishing the staff. Sure, the place probably isn't big enough for all the dogs that come there, but the convenience can't be beat (20 min walk from my house and less than 10 minutes from my office) if you live in the area. We haven't tried any of the other boarding/daycare facilities in the area, but wagtime fits our needs well and we will continue to bring our pup here! I called to make a reservation to have my dog boarded here for 1 night. I made the reservation and asked if they needed any paperwork from me, since it would be my dog's first time there. No registration, no vet records, no trial period? They said no. I thought, that doesn't sound legit, but whatever. Because I was out of town, my friend dropped my dog off at Wagtime for me. They said my reservation wasn't in their database at all, and didn't I know I can't just drop him off if it's his first time there, and there should have been a 1-day trial period, and my vet needs to send paperwork. Two things I asked about that I was specifically told I did not need to do. Making sure to record the name of whom I spoke with going forward, I get a call from the manager on duty letting me know there is blood in my dog's urine. She said they may have some medicine laying around, including Cipro (human medication) to treat UTIs. She would speak with the other manager to see if she was able to give him some, and she would follow up with me. That follow up never happened. I returned to pick up my dog the following day. He was shaking, drooling, and cowering while coming down the stairs to meet me. I asked the 4 staff members present if they could give me the status of blood in his urine - did it improve, or get worse? None of them had any clue, nor did they seem to keep a record of his status and health. The general manager on duty was not at that location, but he was also unable to tell me if they medicated him, or the status of his condition. Time to pay up - I had planned to pay $55 for the overnight, and $10 for the late pick up fee, as I was told over the phone. I ended up paying almost $100, because they declined to tell me that I would also be paying an extra $35 for a full day of daycare. The manager on duty (different from the day before) called me by the time we got home. He said that no staff should make any diagnoses, nor are they allowed to give the animals any medicine at any time. If there is something wrong with the dog, they will offer to take them to the vet in a phone call to the owner. I was never made aware of this option the day before. He told me that I should be getting a call from the general manager from the day before to discuss what meds were possibly given to my dog and for a status update on his health. Did not receive that call. I called back this morning to express that I once again received no follow up on the meds my dog was given or his possible UTI status. He still could not give me an answer. I demanded to speak with the manager on duty at the time my dog was there and because she is "extremely part time", they couldn't get a hold of her. I said I expect a call from the owner as soon as possible to tell them about this disastrous experience and to get some answers about my dog. They said I would hear from her at 11 am. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Wagtime and would never recommend them. We have two dogs that we had at Wagtime over a long weekend. We picked them up, got a great report of their behavior, and put them in the car for the drive home. Shortly after we got into the car, I looked over at our hound to notice a DEEP hole in his side and I literally screamed in horror. I should note that we got the dogs back in their front desk area and they were running around a lot, thus we didn't really give them a full physical check before we loaded them up, hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, I immediately called Wagtime and asked them what had happened and when, but no one had any record of our dog getting hurt. We then asked to speak to the owner and left a voicemail. He called a day later and asked us to email him pictures of the injury, which we did immediately. The vet told us that the wound was a few days old, and was caused by a tooth or claw. Our dog had to have surgery to close the wound and have a drain put in for a few weeks. It was pretty horrendous. The owner called us back and told me that they would refund one dog's boarding and pay the vet bill, which we were happy with. Days later the vet's office called us (they had faxed the bill to Wagtime) to say that Wagtime had not paid. Multiple calls and messages later and we were finally told that they were not going to pay the vet bill due to the contract we signed and despite the owner's promise. We never received an apology for the accident, which would have been appreciated. We were angry that a serious injury went unnoticed for days in their facility, that they promised us to cover the bills and then stiffed us, and were generally incredibly unpleasant to deal with. Seeing the staff email below disgusted me and I felt I had to share our experience as well. For the amount of money we paid, we expected a more professional and safe experience. read more

March 9, 2013 Dear Ofer, We have been going to Wagtime to purchase training sessions, boarding care, dog food, treats, and merchandise since July 2011 when we first adopted Jazzie as a pup. However, we will no longer patron your store or services because of the poor customer service we have received since our dog's injury while in Wagtime's care. As you may recall, we picked up our dog in the afternoon, December 28, 2012, after a 4 night stay and bath appointment at Wagtime. To our shock and dismay she was led out with a serious injury to her right eye - bloodied and swollen. Not satisfied with your co-owner's dismissive comments that "anything could have happened" or that "she could have gotten soap in her eye," we rushed our dog to our vet across town. The vet suggested we retain a copy of her report, where it states, "other ddx not ruled out, Jazzie has signs of trauma to the right eye." I called into your store immediately afterwards, to find out what happened, to speak to anyone who was monitoring the room or the groomer who handled her last. I was told the groomer could not be reached and no one saw anything. It must also be protocol at your store to say - "Anything could have happened. We cannot be responsible for all the dogs here," since this was all your co-owner could recite. I was disappointed that she offered no apology and took no accountability. My call was then passed onto you, and along with a few words of sympathy, you offered to reimburse our vet visit. Unfortunately, despite one curt email the following day to "check on Jazzie's eye," neither you nor any member of Wagtime management has returned my multiple attempts to get a hold of you for a basic refund of the remaining unused credit I purchased November 18, 2012. I can only surmise from your lack of response to my email dated 1/8, phone message 1/13, phone message and email 1/18, or phone message 1/22, that you have no intention of refunding my unused balance or reimbursing the emergency vet fee you offered. Counter to the many recommendations I have made to friends and coworkers for Wagtime in the past, I will no longer suggest your business as courteous and respectful establishment. read more

The three star rating that I give is a cumulative effect of the decent daycare/boarding experience and one horrendous overpriced bath(so called grooming) experience. I recently started bringing my pooch over to Wagtime for daycare & overnight boarding to get him acclimatized to staying away from home for times when we can't take him away on vacations. From the outside the place has a chic boutique vibe going for it. I love the fact they have valet service for the morning hours(upto 10:30am) which takes away the hassle of trying to find parking during peak hours. The daycare & overnight boarding seems to be fine. They do offer a webcam service called Wagtime tv (operates only from 12pm-3pm)which allows you to see what your pet is upto. However,for whatever reason I have yet to get it to work. I have called them multiple times about it,used windows/Mac, Firefox/safari/explorer/chrome, downloaded java. You name it...I have tried it without any success. So even though I don't know what my pup has been upto he always comes home exhausted which is a good thing & I can live with that. Now the grooming is another story all together. During my pooch's last overnight stay I wanted him to have a wash/bath before he came home. He had just got groomed 2 weeks ago & I didn't want the trimmings just yet. I did try to convey this to the staff & from what I was informed it would be $20 for a wash...being ok with that price I scheduled it & when asked for a pick up time I picked noon. I called back later during the day to see if there was anyway they could trim the hair around his bridge of the nose & how expensive it would be. Once again I reiterated the fact that I didn't want him groomed. During pick up my pup looked relatively ok.... Washed you could say. Later during the day while going through my credit card transactions, I noticed I was charged way more than I thought I ought to be. A call to Wagtime gave me a breakup ,where I was charged $50 odd for the bath & $ 20 for early check out( I took my pup home at noon)!!! Though she was polite, I could not get this staff member to explain why the bath was $ 50 when nothing was really done for my pooch. She promised to find out from the groomer & call back... Never heard back. Which lead to call number two,following which I still don't understand why the bath was $50. I was informed that no real grooming was done coz I didn't ask for it. Duh! The nails weren't trimmed, ears weren't cleaned, the fanny hole was non visible. What was the grooming again???I did get the early pick up fee waived which I hardly grasp why I should have to pay in the first place but turns out that the check out time for grooming is after 3pm anything before that u pay. Bizarre stuff! The staff here is hit or miss. I do like the guy who handles the valet but dealing with most of the other staff is like pulling teeth. You really have to ask the same question in twenty different ways before you get a semblance of an answer(Atleast it makes you more innovative! Sigh!) I had to twist a staff members arm to tour the facility,rather just the room my pooch was in. Since I'm only going to use the daycare/boarding infrequently I think I can overlook the quirks of the staff, but the grooming is a definite NO GO!! Not worth it. Wagtime is great. The staff is fantastic. Bones was a dog at the Washington Humane Society. They rescued him when he was slated to be put down. WHS did not have room for him, but wanted to save him from that fate. They called Wagtime. Wagtime took Bones in, helped him recover from kennel cough, and sought an adopter. I took Bones home just over a week ago. Lisa has been fantastic. She has checked in with me to see how he is. She welcomed him back to Wagtime when I needed boarding for him for a day. Bones was so happy when I dropped him off for his stay! The staff remembered him and happily welcomed him to his former home. When I picked him up, I got a quick report of how his stay went. I'm so happy I have a kennel-free place that I can take my dog when I travel :) They really do care about the dogs. Plus, they regulary take in rescue dogs and help them find homes. I'm shocked by the negative reviews of Wagtime! We have been taking our bichon there for grooming for the year and a half that we have had her in the city, and it is our pet supply shop of choice. Lola May loves it when we go to Wagtime. When she realizes where we are going, she pulls at her leash to get there faster. We let her in doggy day care (in the little dog section) before and after her grooming, and she always gets along with the other dogs and the staff - to the point where they have remembered her when they run into us out and about around the city, even though she is only in day care once every other month. Her grooming always looks marvelous, and they are very good at following directions as far as what look you'd like for your dog. It look us a while to tailor what to ask for in a haircut, but they have always obliged our directions, including the time we wanted to give her a spin with a mohawk. They've been very patient and gentle with her too - she tends to get quite bitchy when being groomed and we have had other groomers in the past who complain about her when we pick her up, and she seems visibly shaken from the experience, but never at Wagtime. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the shop, too. They are very knowledgeable about the products they offer and make suggestions, but aren't pushy. Bichons have a tendancy to wheat allergies, and the staff has always been very accomodating in steering us toward the treats and goodies that are wheat-free. There have also been a few times I've picked out treats, and they have suggested that the treat might not be the best bet for a small dog, or that the treat might stain our carpet, and offer an alternative. read more

So they seem ok. My dog has always come back to me in one piece and unharmed. But the staff are just...bad. Every time I walk in and approach the crowded front desk area, I feel like I'm intruding. And it usually takes several minutes before anyone even acknowledges me. And they definitely always seem quite put off by any questions. I also find it rather strange that they always have an excuse for not giving me a tour of the facility. This is the first of several daycares I've been to where a tour wasn't just automatically given. It's all weird. It'll do, but I'm not even close to being a fan. read more

They look after Corky each day while we work. It has been fantastic for a puppy because she comes home having had a great day. It is also great because they pick her up each morning and drop her off each afternoon. And it is great because they separate the big dogs and the little dogs. We have only used them for day-time care, not boarding. read more

Our Wheaten Terrier Sadie Rose has been going to daycare at Wagtime once or twice a week for about six years. When she arrives, she is always warmly greeted by the staff and sprints upstairs to her play room as soon as the door opens. We also appreciate the late pick up time available. We've also left her there for overnights during vacation and have had good experiences with that as well. read more

I love Wagtime and am really confused by Ginger's review. Sasha, my mini doxie, has been going to Wagtime since Feb and she adores it. She has tons of friends there (both the 2 legged and 4 legged variety), although she's pretty partial to Joey (who is fabulous, btw). I've always found ALL the staff (including Lisa) to be friendly, helpful and easy to deal with. Sasha is a happy, well-adjusted dog and I rest easy knowing that she's spending time at Wagtime. I recommend Wagtime to all my friends with dogs and the fact that they foster dogs makes me love them even more. read more

The additional treats/samples you brought home were pleasant surprises, made the wedding clothes almost tolerable. Who knew that Santa delivered in June?!?! What will be next, humans eating each others' faces off?!?! Crazy world we live in - so additional thanks for protecting us and keeping us close to you with the awesomely cool collars and leashes you got for us. They're pretty friendly with me and my dog. It gets really busy during pick-up times but they manage well. I loved that on his first visit, I received photos of him playing. That was sweet. It would be great if they did that more often. I did have his nails trimmed once, but it wasn't done that well (barely took anything off...maybe being cautious). So, I've not found that service to be worth the price; I'd rather his vet do it or me. Otherwise, pretty good place and I like that we're able to transfer to their other location in SE! read more

Daniel, When I initially read your response my first reaction was to correct all the misinformation (aka- lies) that you stated, however, I realized that there is no need to do so. The reviews on Yelp (and others) speaks for itself. I suggest reviewing the reviews. What is of greater concern to me is the aggressive, dismissive, and condescending tone of your response to me. As a former customer who spent a large sum of money (i.e., thousands) and entrusted my dog at your facility almost daily for several months, I expected a more dignified response from you (i.e., general manager). read more

Wagtime is truly a gem within DC. The people are amazing there and treat your dog just like their own. In fact, their dogs are running around with all the other dogs! They are a total full service facility - grooming, boarding, walking, daycare, retail and adoption. It is a cage free facility, so your dogs get to run around and socialize. Don't worry - the small dogs are kept separately from the big guys to ensure everyone's safety. I have been bringing my dog here for years for everything and when she was younger, they came to the house daily to walk her while I was at work. They are incredibly trust worthy and good, honest people. Their knowledge in everything from best dog foods, leashes, shampoos, behavioral issues etc has been invaluable over the years. They have a couple of groomers, however Tyra cuts my dogs hair and is absolutely amazing at what she does. My dog is a toy poodle and she comes out looking gorgeous and happy every time. I highly recommend Wagtime for all of your dog needs. If you are looking for a new member to add to the family, they also house rescues that are ready for adoption! read more

I am extremely disappointed at the way billing is managed at this business. My dog seems to enjoy going but always seems to have still have a ton of energy when she leaves and is desperate to go to the bathroom. And playrooms are just to small for the number and size of dogs they allow. I'd be ok to continuing to use their services until I find a more convenient place, if it wasn't for their poor management of billing. I purchased a $500 package and had asked what the balance was and they said " oh, you're fine". Three days later, without my authorization, I have a charge for $500 on my account and no receipt. I find this completely unacceptable way to run a business. read more

I've used Wagtime for boarding and obedience training. Despite all the negative reviews, I'm generally satisfied with the boarding. I like that the dogs can run around and play/socialize to their hearts' content. My dog loves it, too. As soon as I street park near here, his tail wags so hard his whole butt wags along with it! Obedience training offered here through Anytime K9 was great, too. My dog finished Puppy Preschool with Toni, and she genuinely seemed to enjoy working with us. I would NOT recommend Wagtime for walks and grooming. Given the area and the reviews, I would not take the risk of having your dog walked during boarding. My one experience with grooming here was a let down. Because my dog has dark nails, I agreed to let Wagtime clip his nails for me. They called and said they wanted to charge double to grind instead of trim, which was fine with me.... But when I picked my dog up, his nails still looked way too long and had obviously been barely touched with the grinder. $20 for a NON nail trim is too much! read more
