A little bit of oldtime Americana, the cherry (or vanilla) coke made with a squirt of syrup.

They say exceptions prove the rule, though I'm not really sure how. In any case, although I avoid chains like the plague, I am a Waffle House fan. Being a transplanted New Yorker, there is still something so quaint and different about WH. I remember that as you headed south on I95, the first WH sighting meant you'd crossed the unofficial Mason-Dixon Line. Works the same way westbound too. This location is our go-to WH and it's a great place for a down home breakfast or hearty brunch. Has a genuine little town diner feel to it. Friendly staff, tasty food and lots of it for a pretty low price. Prompt and generous on the coffee refills. This place is clean and comfortable, though it can be a little tricky finding the right driveway to reach it! This is probably not a problem for natives though. They do the eggs to perfection... Over easy was a masterpiece, my husband was delighted with his poached ones, too. Two kinds of ham, sausage, bacon, hash browns with a zillion add in options, and of course, those famous waffles. And grits even, if that's your thing. Biscuits and gravy! I mean, how down home heartland America can you get? They have lunch and dinner too, but somehow I can't see anything but breakfast at MY LOCAL WAFFLE HOUSE. One day maybe on the road, will give that chicken-fried steak a try....

Cozy's Cottage - Short Rib Skillet - Incredible!

Outstanding. In every regard…read more Fantastic brunch spot. And a cool location inside a large country house. Definitely try the Short Rib Skillet and Bloody Mary's. And get a side of Grilled Andouille.

Cozy's Cottage has always been a hit‑or‑miss spot for us, and unfortunately our September 18 visit…read morelanded firmly in the "miss" category. My husband ordered the soup and shaved Caesar, while I went with the Carbonara. The soup arrived lukewarm, and the shaved Caesar was awkward to eat--shaved romaine simply doesn't cooperate with a fork. The Carbonara was completely uneatable and the biggest disappointment. What arrived at the table looked more like a soupy, broken sauce with noodles swimming underneath and a barely cooked egg collapsing into the bowl than anything resembling Carbonara. The photo says it all: a runny, unsettled mixture that never came together as a cohesive dish. To their credit, the manager removed it from the bill and apologized, explaining that a new chef is still learning the recipes and that the dish should never have been served that way. The issue, of course, is that it was served that way. Cozy's seems to be experimenting with "deconstructed" presentations, but it isn't working. The shaved lettuce Caesar came topped with a deviled egg, and the Carbonara featured that nearly raw egg sitting on top of a watery sauce. Sometimes sticking with what you know is the better choice. Despite this visit, we'll likely return--Cozy's can be charming, and when they get it right, the food can be quite good. But consistency remains their biggest challenge. Next time, I'll ordered the fried chicken!

I stopped in for an early working lunch as I work remotely. Great service, they had one waitress on…read moreduty but she was young, energetic, and covering all the tables. She also quickly delivered drinks, order, etc. Food was pretty good, I got a build your own pizza. Tasty, dough is made fresh on site, but not the best I've had. I was initially concerned by how large their menu was but the restaurant executes it well. The pizza was good, but a little more sauce and more generous topping application would have made it great. I've seen this mentioned in other reviews as well, please turn your ceiling vent fans down. I was wearing a jacket and was still feeling cold!

Sigh, I want to root for you, Fireside Cafe, but you make it a challenge. Everything tastes like…read moresomething I can make at home, or worse. Kind of a cross between bar food and food from DQ, but I've had bar food that's better than this. First, why Fireside? There is no fireplace! Also, the space gives off more of a bar & grill vibe than a cafe vibe, IMO. When we stopped in at Friday at 5, I was hoping we found a hidden gem. But, seeing no one here to dine should have been the first indication to go elsewhere...this was the worst meal I've had in a long time! Fried Ravioli - not enough sauce, and they were round? All other friend ravioli I've had were square. They were not good, would have preferred them to be meat instead of ricotta. Fish & Chips - while the fries were cooked well, they had no seasoning. Fish was meh. Was given something that looked and tasted like honey mustard, but lo and behold they put mustard in the tarter sauce...vile. Fruit cup was good, until the honeydew...tasted off. My husband had the chicken parm, which he liked, but after tasting it, I don't see how. Tasted like straight up flour. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? I may never know, as I see no reason to return to Fireside Cafe.
