The first thing you should know about this restaurant is the name is actually Jay's Country Kitchen. I tell you this because I don't want you not stopping because it doesn't say Jeff's outside. Any who. What great breakfast. I'm from the South and have had my share of grits but what they do here with grits is freaking incredibly delicious. I literally don't have the words to describe how great they are to eat. Just trust me. Get the grits. The eggs were expertly cooked and liver pudding was perfectly spicy and meaty. The linked sausages were also fantastic. This will be our go to place for breakfast the next time we are visiting family here. Highly recommend. It was fast, good, and easy (not to mention inexpensive). Stay focused... I am talking about lunch. When you arrive, the parking lot might be full (it was when we arrived), almost always a good sign. You can grab a spot on the street or behind the now mostly defunct main street. When you walk in, you glove up and start serving yourself from the buffet. Someone will take your drink order (ours was taken as we were going through the line), then find a seat. I didn't know what fatback was, but I had already Googled it before we arrived, so I easily identified it. After one bite, I decided my dentist might become richer if I continued to try to chew it. The fried chicken was good but a bit salty. The fried pork chop was good as well, but I would have mistaken it for fried fish if I hadn't read the menu. Smoked sauage, yum. The biscuits looked good, but I took (and ate) the cornbread but would not have known what it was if I didn't have the cheat sheet. The salad bar was primarily lettuce. They had a few salad toppings, but the tongs were short and difficult to use. I suspect most people do not come here for salad. Oh, did I mention dessert? Huge cinnamon rolls and something chocolate with pudding and cookies. It fit the bill for what we were looking for.. a quick, inexpensive sit-down lunch.

I just realized I didn't do a return review. I was here last about 4 years ago. It was good to see the community has supported the business and it's still looks well kept. Of course I saw the biscuit lady in the window and before I left there was a gentleman making biscuits in the window. The lobby and dining area was clean and organized. The service of course was friendly Southern Style. I got a Sausage and Egg Biscuit with a Side of Gravy to dip it in. Yum yum. Fresh biscuit was hot and the Gravy was steaming. Fresh Egg and good Sausage. I'm still more partial to another place as my number 1 for breakfast biscuits , but this is number 2. Last time I had the Country Ham and Egg Biscuit and a Steak Biscuit. But that is the same of every place I would say. One thing that I did not like was the fact that they only had vinegar bottles only near the salad buffet. I wish they had them on the tables or at stations around the restaurant like other establishments. The service was good, and the server did check on us often, and remove soiled plates as needed. We sampled the chicken, pizza, taco meat, salad, deviled eggs And of course Ice-cream, cake, pies, pudding The fried chicken was Well-seasoned and tender, the chicken was very good making it a standout among the buffet options, The pizza was decent, with a nice flavor It wasn't gourmet, but it satisfied our pizza cravings. Pepperoni helps!!! I liked the deviled eggs they were fresh, the taco meat was another hit. The meat was well-cooked and seasoned, and the options for fresh toppings added a nice touch. I put some ON my pizza hey I'm not a purist and Golden Corral is not catering to purists anyhow! This Golden corral will be closing for a refresh, and there was some spackle on the walls in preparation of new paint but nothing that made our dining experience any less enjoyable it would've been four stars even if the walls were painted perfect. it's a buffet. It's golden corral. It really never will be a five star experience. We'll definitely be returning for another round of comfort food favorites when traveling.
