The buffet is large, and always contains fried chicken and Eastern style pork barbecue. Other meats change from day to day, and might include Fried Whiting, Stewed Chicken, Meatloaf, Stewed Beef, Spaghetti, Ham, and more, even fried bacon rinds. The vegetable selection is also large with corn, lima beans, cabbage, mac & cheese, sweet potatoes, squash, greens, and a large salad bar. There are also a number of dessert choices each day, and on the day we were there they offered great fried corn bread. And the Sweet Tea is on point. The fried chicken and the pork BBQ are outstanding, and the fried whiting was fresh tasting and perfectly cooked. The Spaghetti sauce was very good, and was loaded with ground beef. The vegetables were nice, and very well seasoned. The cost for lunch with drink and tax was a little over $13 each, and while some will find this a bit pricey, the quality and variety justified the price for us. Laurinburg is about 110 miles from Greensboro, and while that might be a long haul just for a buffet lunch, throw in a visit to The Berry Patch in Ellerbe for ice cream and strawberries, and at other times of the year, a search for fresh peaches, and that'll work for us.

I made it a point to go here this time and came here on Thursday , my last day , for lunch before driving to the mountains. Everyone was very nice and the chopped pork sandwich was very good. I'm more used to pulled pork , but it was pretty much the same thing. The vinegar and red pepper bbq sauce was on point like it should be in the Carolinas. The slaw was okay and it also came with a pack of potato chips. It was nice and quiet sitting on the picnic benches and a few people came by while I was eating. I also got a show from one of the local birds flying high enjoying the wind. At first I thought it was a hawk , but after looking at the picture more closely it looks like a buzzard. Or maybe just cut it in half (though i know a club is traditionally quartered). My wife really enjoyed here reuben, cole slaw instead of kraut, and her fries were cooked perfectly. Generous portion on both the fries and onion rings which you love to see. Our tea was also spot on, just enough sweet to make a perfectly balanced half and half. Overall, is this place going to blow you away? No. But I am definitely giving it a 5 for knowing exactly what it is, and executing in a way you'll be happy with if you visit. If I ever pass through again and need a bite, I know where to go!

They had a sink near the end of the counter so you could wash your hands. We ordered from the front counter there was a large readable menu above the person who took your order. They had a large selection of foods. I ordered shrimp and barbecue platter with two sides baked beans and potato salad which was a little bit too soupy. My husband ordered the chicken platter with two sides baked beans and coleslaw. You get hush puppies with every meal. I tasted the chicken and it was flavorful . My shrimp was good the barbecue was a little dry just added extra sauce. We had lemonade to drink and the staff members come to your table to get you refills . All in all it was a decent meal and it was very filling. If I was to go back I would go for the chicken.

Lastly, the building/business is a South Carolina Certified Heritage Site. It's been around a long time and you feel you have stepped back in time. The food was not particularly good, but hopeful to be better in the future. As it was, I became a weekly customer, until last week, when the restaurant suddenly got closed. Bad as it was, it was still the best place in Laurinburg. I checked online, some say the restaurant is closed temporary, but the main Golden Corral site says "permanently". I went 36 miles to Lumberton's Golden Corral - it was significantly better, from the food variety and quality, to having plates available to customers.

I remember when this used to be the Sanitary Cafe and Harry ran the place. He had a small display case with some of his old military stuff in it from when he was in World War 2. I was happy to see the stainless steel wall cover still there behind the counter. I met a friend of mine for lunch on my way to Myrtle Beach. We've been friends since 3rd Grade ! I had the Country Ham Plate with Mac-n-Cheese , Mashed Potatoes and Gravy , Roll , and Sweet Tea. He had the Patty Melt with Fries. I love getting Country Ham when I come home to visit because we can't get it in Las Vegas. It was good , but I have to say the portion was a little smaller than I expected. The Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was good , but the Mac-n-Cheese I didn't really care for. Sweet Tea was on point. My friend liked his Patty Melt and fries. He knew our waitress and she was nice enough to take a picture of us. Bennettsville is still the small town community that I remember and grew up in. I would love to see it grow again like many places have even though all the jobs moved away years ago when the factories moved overseas. My father and I walked the streets of Bennettsville everyday after he got off work and we visited many of the shopkeepers after his first heart attack to give him some exercise. He grew up in Bennettsville and never moved as many of the people that he grew up with. Bennettsville was a tight knit community then and I know the ones that I grew up with still have this place in their heart even being thousands of miles away like me.
