I could see it was popular based upon the parking lot and the building and grounds appeared to be well cared for. Inside, you place your order at a counter shared with the kitchen. My order taker was well spoken and articulate. The menu had quite a selection but my client advised me to do the catfish. I settled on the catfish basket but, if I get the chance to return, I'll go with one of their dinner plates. The dining area is decorated really well -- you can tell they give the place a lot of attention. The bathrooms were a bit small but clean and all new fixtures. What's that music I hear playing? Johnny Cash? Oh yeah -- I'm in a good place. If you get the catfish, watch your first bite because boy howdy it comes out HOT! My fish was cooked to perfection and unbelievably light and flakey. The basket included some very tasty fries as well. It was more than I could put away so I brought about 1/3 of the meal home. My only wish would be for better flatware because they only provide light duty plastic. Not enough of a bother to lose a star though. I'd go back anytime I'm in Manor.

Now it's been many years since I've been home but it's a craving that is always there and hard to fill. Cafe 290 does just that! Great home cooked meals, typical Diner sized portions (very large) and breakfast at any time of the day! Let's be honest, it's never the wrong time for breakfast! It feels like you are sitting in your home kitchen, the staff are very nice, and the atmosphere is typical Texas Diner, and there is nothing wrong with that! Few pictures, and good ole classic cheeseburger! 1lb of meat... good luck, taste great but sheesh, it's hefty, the quesadilla is 10/10 with chicken, idk why it just bangs every time! And the very classic egg omelette! Get the diced potatoes, it's all divine! LASTLY and probably most important! THEY HAVE HOMEMADE CAKE AND PIE by the slice. It's expensive, listen to me here, it's worth the price, massive slices and fresh every day and THEY ARE INCREDIBLE!

My go-to is The 290 which is two eggs, a choice of meat, and a choice of fries, hash browns, or grits. It also comes with a short stack of fluffy buttermilk pancakes. My wife and I came here for Sunday Brunch and really enjoyed our time here. I ordered the Migas and…read moreshe ordered the shrimp and grits. My Migas were outstanding! I loved the hollandaise sauce on the eggs, the potatoes were cooked perfectly, but the crispy masa cakes were the real stars of the show. I also had to order some pancakes and they were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, also they were amazing! My wife said that was the best shrimp and grits she's ever had and the bartenders who served us were so very nice. They gave us some excellent recommendations and we will definitely be back.

So decided to head over there and tried out. Once I got through the place was really nice, really clean and it was extremely packed. We waited about five minutes for a table, and they sat us down at four cedar. The server was really helpful.Brought us a menu.Everything looked pretty good.I decided to order the brisket burrito. It looked pretty good and he recommended it. I'm gonna start off by saying I got my meal about 10 minutes later. The potatoes were excellent loved. Em didn't have any complaints about Em. They tasted awesome. They were great now. On the other hand the burrito, not so much. The burrito was soggy, something was off with the meat. It tasted kind of bitter. I don't know if it was because of the barbecue sauce or what I ate about.Half of it before I couldn't eat it anymore. And I tossed it the other half. I was extremely disappointed with the meal.I paid about twenty four twenty five dollars.I believe for the meal and had to throw half of it away.Because it just didn't taste right.I didn't wanna make an issue. It looked phenomenal, just didn't taste like that. The other gripe I had was, I took a bite out of some of the burrito and noticed that it was a big glob of fat. Instead of actual brisket meat I probably should have stuck with the regular, which would have been bacon and eggs. But decided to try that.Because the way to recommended it sad I didn't stay with the eggs and bacon. Brisket burrito 2 outa 10 thats being generous Potatoes 5 outa 10 Wait staff 7 outa 10 he was slammed with tables Would I come back probably 50/50 chance to try the eggs and bacon In the picture it looks tasty but in actuality not so much

If you're looking for bold, unforgettable flavor--this place absolutely delivers…read more We started with the macaroni balls, and they were HUGE. Crispy on the outside, golden and crunchy, with a cheesy, gooey center that tasted like true homemade mac & cheese. Already off to a strong start. Then came the chicken and waffles... and let me just say: the chicken is a 1000/5. Perfectly crispy, well-seasoned breading with juicy, tender meat inside. Every bite was packed with flavor. The waffle was soft, fluffy, buttery, and cooked just right--paired perfectly with the chicken. I also tried the gumbo (added shrimp). The flavor was definitely there, rich and well-developed with a great consistency on the roux. For me personally, it was just a tad on the salty side--but honestly, not enough to take away from the overall experience. Even the cabbage was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right--nothing on the table was bland. This is one of those spots where you can taste the care in every dish. Flavor everywhere, no shortcuts. Five stars all the way. I'll definitely be back.

Came in for my birthday brunch up from San Antonio. Let's start with the positives:…read more Service was excellent. Server was attentive and my coffee stayed filled (with a small caveat I'll speak to below). Atmosphere was simple. "Modern" diner experience. Music was low and not obnoxious, bell ringing behind the counter, the low hum of conversations. Lighting was nice. Food for the most part was also excellent (one caveat to this will be listed below). I had the Counter Benedict, wife had the biscuits and gravy, son had the breakfast taco. Breakfast potatoes were very good. Crisp, pillowy, and properly seasoned. Pastrami on the Benedict was very good. Poached eggs were well cooked and silky as expected. Flour tortilla in the breakfast taco was also good. Sausage in the gravy was slightly spicy and delicious. Now, the negatives: Coffee was lukewarm after my first cup. Coffee needs to be hot. One of the biscuits in my Benedict was overcooked and dry as a bone. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy is sweet for some reason. Normally I want more gravy, but when my wife couldn't finish her breakfast, I had 0 desire to eat it. Not sure why it's sweet but it's weird. Overall we liked it so we will be back. The prices are very reasonable for Austin, and they have Valentina as a hot sauce option (which is excellent).

Opted for the Southern Poached Eggs, with grits and greens, very tasty breakfast that will keep you going most of the day. Pretty good amount of parking, I was there by 0800, so can't say as to how packed it gets lunchtime on. Staff kept up on the coffee refills, and it was like some of the old timey diners back in the day. Only negative has nothing to do with the business, just this being Austin, there are LPGOs (Loud Professionals Gassing On), setting up the laptop and conducting business meetings LOUDLY while us country hicks are just trying to have a relaxing breakfast. Added points for them bringing in their outside beverages, despite the signage asking you NOT to bring them in. SMH.
