The best portion was the wait staff, they are intentionally acerbic and if you're faint of heart this probably isn't the place for you. But, if you can take a joke and enjoy dishing out a little sass in return you'll fit right in here. Dick's is spacious, full of games to play if you want, a bar and live music set up, and a pretty damned good view of the beach. The food was mostly good, the chicken wings were found to be a bit tough but still okay. The steak was well seasoned, and the fish bites were really tasty! I doubt the claims of the alcoholic content of the giant bowl drinks, having been forced to finish off not just mine alone but also my sister-in-law's giant margarita, and was more than capable of navigating the stairs and walk back to the hotel without difficulty, but they are tasty regardless. We had an issue where the restaurant was out of chicken and so they'd substituted steak for the chicken in the Alfredo and the chicken Caesar salad but still charged us the $9 up charge for something we had no control over, however the general manager was kind enough to reach out and resolve it all for us before we even left town the next day. Overall we had a blast and we'll be back.

Now, growing up as a person of color, I'm more inclined to notice when I'm the only person of color in a space than most white people I've met are. So, I noticed almost immediately that all the white people who arrived after us were sat before us in very visible tables and then I (the lone brown person) was sat around the corner away from the entry. Now, I don't know these people, so I have absolutely no reason to think that this was intentional, but I need them to realize how it might look. You have to be cognizant of things like that. Even if they just forgot to seat us and the hidden table happened to be the next available, it looked very bad. Now, the server who was assigned to us was awesome. We told her we were in town for Rockville and we all talked about music. She was super nice and attentive. For food, I got the catch of the day grilled with grits and mashed potatoes. When I ordered this, I don't think I imagined how unappetizing it would look. The biggest issue was the quality of the food. If you're going to charge around $15 for a breakfast, put a good-quality sausage patty on the grill. It doesn't take much to make a flavorful sausage gravy from scratch either, but this gravy tasted like it came straight from a bag or can and had almost no flavor. The biscuits themselves were actually pretty good, but pouring margarine over the top completely changed the taste. The sausage patties weren't very good and seemed like they'd been left on the grill too long. The fried potatoes were decent, and so was the sourdough toast. The staff was nice and working hard--they were extremely busy. There were a lot of people in line, so clearly plenty of people enjoy the breakfast here, and the place itself has an interesting atmosphere. The price didn't help. $4 for a Sprite is overkill. We had one breakfast with an egg, sausage, toast and home fries, one waffle, half an order of biscuits and gravy, and drinks, and the bill was over $40. At that price point, I simply expect better-quality breakfast ingredients. This is just our experience and opinion. The staff was friendly, and considering how busy they were, I give them credit for that. Maybe we'll give it another shot next year, but this time around, the quality just didn't match the price.
