I've been coming here since Karen was the owner, and so on. Yesterday I called to make an appointment for a pedicure and a fill w/Michael. They said he was out so I scheduled it for today at 2pm. Today I went in and they started doing my pedicure. As I was getting my pedicure done two WALK-INS came in. My pedicure was literally almost done but they decided to sit the walk ins and start giving one of them a manicure before my fill! They kept telling me to wait but people make appointments for a reason. So I had to leave. It's really unprofessional of them. I made an appointment yesterday and they were walk ins I should not have to wait. Had to leave w out a fill and now I need a new nail shop to go to. I've been a loyal costumer to Vy's nails it's a shame I don't even want to go back k there anymore. Any good recommendations in the east bay for nail shops? read more

Great service. My mother in law frequents this business and referred me over here. My daughter and I came here for a full set and pedicure. They took care of us with a small wait. I used to come here when Karen was the owner and hadn't been there in a while. So a month ago I was on Yelp looking at the reviews find out Karen was not there and I saw some of the work and it was amazing. So I decided to come give the new owner a try it was one of the best decisions I ever made. First off the team in there are so nice and professional and Mimi is great. I booked my appointment online it was kind of late so I wasn't expecting her to answer so fast but she did. And was so nice I have now been coming here they do amazing work. The prices are very reasonable they are just the same as any other nail shop. When I first came in I got a full set, pedicure, eyelashes, eyebrow wax. Came here for the first time and the service needs to improve. The lady was not friendly or welcoming. She chair I sat on was not clean it had dust all over it and the table where my nails got done was not clean. They reuse a long nail filer and she didn't ask me to wash my hands after finishing my gel. When my gel mani was done I noticed that there was something underneath my gel that needed the be bluffed and she told me it was my nail. However she should've fixed it bc she was the nail technician and she didn't. She added lotion to my hands that were dirty from the dust. However the pedi I got was nice but the service was not there and didn't feel like a friendly environment so I couldn't relax. read more

My cousin recommended Vy's Nails to me, and boy am I glad she did. I scheduled an appointment the day before, and unlike other salons I've made appointments at they made sure a chair was open at the time my appointment was scheduled for. They greeted me as I walked in the door, and made me feel very welcomed. Michael, my nail technician, did an amazing job! He gave me exactly what I asked for with no hesitation. First and last time I will ever step foot in here. Terrible service. I did not like how my nails came out & had made a complaint. Lady told me I was exaggerating and that they were fine. She immediately asked for money and would not let me leave. I am 16 years old.. she had grabbed me by my hand because I wanted to step outside to check in with my mom but she would not let go of me. Said my mom had to come in. I felt so uncomfortable. I wanted to grab my stuff and just leave and have my mom come in and pay her.. she put her hands on my phone and wallet and still had her hands on me refusing to let me leave. So unprofessional.. was yelling at me in front of the other customers there & was telling me to stop acting the way I was acting. She blocked the door and would not let me leave. HOLY CRAP!! Very dirty salon. I got a toe nail fungus after Karen proding me to have a pedicure and promising me it was clean. When I told her about the fungus about 4 weeks later with a nasty looking fungus on my 2 big toenails, she got very defensive and said it wasn't from them. I had never had a pedicure anywhere else since I heard all the horror stories. I always did my own pedicures with sterilized tools each time. I went to see my doctor and was told there's a medication for this problem but it can cause liver failure. The doctor also told me the toenails will turn dark brown and fall off and won't re-grow!! I have filed a complaint with the health department, Board of Cosmotology and also filed a small claims action. read more

I have a pretty high tolerance of pain (I can fall asleep through most body waxing) so I was pretty surprised at how rough and tough Karen could be on my poor unsuspecting eyebrows. She also works like the Tazmanian Devil - you lie down your head for one second, and before you know it she's already slathered on hot wax, yanking strips, and feverishly plucking hairs. She worked so fast while gabbing away that I thought for sure I would have no eyebrows left. But when I looked in the mirror......wow. Pretty darn impressive! I was even more sold when I came home to do the usual stray hair plucking, only to find there were ZERO strays. Not a one. That woman is a miracle worker. Location is sketchy (I mean, it's next door to one of those Asian "health centers"...wink wink nudge nudge say no more), cleanliness is questionable, but the work is great. Came here quiiiite a while back, but my experience was enough to remember to come to Yelp and leave a review. I came in asking for a full GEL set, the lady said she could do it and asked me to sit down. Then she starts to take out the powder and brush. Confused, I asked her about it, because I remember a lot of nail techs I've gone to telling me gel comes in a gel form, not powder. She shrugged me off and claimed it was powdered gel. She had already started laying down the acrylic, so I decided to just stay and let her rip me off the $10, because I didn't want to leave with unfinished nails. It's been almost a year and I'm still disappointed about their dishonesty, please don't come in here expecting them to give you a full "gel" set. Go somewhere else. read more

This review is strictly about the waxing services. Karen is awesome!!! I love her & her bubbly personality. I'm pretty particular about my eyebrows. For years I did my own & was very hesitant about getting them waxed bc I was afraid of how it would turn out. I come here mainly for my mani/pedis and based on the clients recommendations, I decided to one day try it out. I got my eyebrows waxed for the 1st time ever here. I didn't even have to say much about how i wanted it, except for the fact that i didn't want it super thin, but more natural looking and tamed. I didn't have to say much more...bc in a matter of seconds, she went to work, and yes..she's a bit rough...but the outcome was phenomenal! and her rates are super cheap. I came here for one thing and one thing only, eyebrows. Yelp raved about it, but what a disappointment! I agree that Karen works fast and she knows what she's doing, but Guurrrrll! You made my eyebrows WAY too thin! I feel like one of those hookers from the 90s, I just need black lipliner now. Well except for the fact that she also waxed my lip and burnt them. NOT good--she shouldn't be that aggressive on sensitive areas. I also got gel nails done--my first time. They started peeling in a week, unlike the 2 weeks she guaranteed. Also parking is a bitch. It's a small parking lot (maybe about 10 cars) and street parking is very difficult since the salon is right next to the freeway. Will I come back? I read the reviews and found my experience to be closest to Vicky L's. The shop is right off Hesperian and easy to find, but parking is a little tight. The mini plaza has about 10 spaces and they were all full, and there is a small stretch of street parking. Hesperian is a pretty busy street so if you park on the street be careful when exiting the car. When I walked into the shop it was completely empty and a bit dark. Karen came over to greet me and I followed her into the back room where her station was set up. She gave me the same line; she creates the shape of my eyebrows by looking at my face. From the moment I laid down she began working. Whoever said beauty is painful wasn't playing. She waxed, tugged, tweezed and trimmed me; it was a rough, but in the end my brows looked great. I only love this place b/c of Karen, the owner. She is the waxer and she does a GREAT job on my eyebrows and all those other...ahem...unwanted hairs EVERYTIME. She is very meticulous...almost to the point of OCD about getting ALL the hairs. I LIKE THAT! GET THOSE BASTARDS! Also, I have to say she is not fuckin' around with those hairs, she is NOT delicate and gentle so if you are squeamish you might want to go somewhere else. But if you are mad at your facial hair and want someone to kick it's ass on your behalf this is DEFINITELY the place to go! Oh yeah, she is also really funny once you get to know her! Very nice woman! I also go there to get pedicures but that is a little more on the hit and miss side...she has the other workers do the pedicures and the quality has been inconsistent. So I absolutely LOVE Vy's Nails. I am extremely OCD about which nail salon I go to. It is my ultimate pet peeve when I go to a nail salon and get half-ass pedicures from workers who are too lazy to pamper my feet or even scrub my calluses. The pedicures at Vy's are great and the price is extremely reasonable. The employees are meticulous about cutting my cuticles and scrubbing my feet with the pumice stone until the are nice and smooth. They spend a fair amount of time with the foot massage, unlike other salons I've been to. Karen is very nice and well liked by all of her customers. I make the drive from Oakland to San Leandro every two weeks just to get a pedicure at Vy's Nails. The place can get busy so I suggest calling beforehand to see if they are free! read more

This was my fist visit to the shop since I was in the market to find a new shop. My co-worker recommened coming here and seeing her nails I was all in...And she raved about Mimi...I went the next day and walked right in with no wait to Mimi greeting me with a big smile. I asked for a full set ombre, and pedicure. I sat down and her sister started on my feet and Mimi on my nails which I loved cause after a long day of work the last thing I want is to be in the nail shop all afternoon. After getting my nails a feet done I was so happy with the work I decided to add an eyebrow wax also...I was very happy with the price...It all came out to $75. Mimi recently took over the shop and still is dealing with the bad reviews from the previous owner on Yelp, so i just wanted to come on and let everyone know how great her work is. So, Friday night I reached out to them on the app and they responded early Saturday morning. I told them I needed a gel manicure, one nail repaired and a deluxe pedicure, and that I'd be there in an hour. I was thirty minutes late. The shop is small, and easy to miss if you don't pay attention. Also, there's limited parking in the one-way parking lot so, yeah. Anyway, there were 2 people in the pedi chairs and one getting getting their nails done. The wait time was about 10 minutes. Btw, I like the fact that they tell you what a nail repair consists of, because I've been to nail shops that rebuilds with gel instead of nail tips. The nail tech had trouble getting my tip on, and needed assistance. The older woman who WAS able to apply it was rushing, and the nail doesn't look natural. It looked natural ENOUGH, and I wanted a design on the ring finger anyway so I figured I could pull it off. I told them what design I wanted BEFORE I sat down in the chair and they told me they couldn't do it but they could do something similar. The design I received is nothing like the picture I showed them. And the nail STILL looks fake. Overall, I would go back for the pedicure and a BASIC manicure with no design. Finally, a place that doesn't make me feel too guilty when I want to pamper myself! Went in on a Sunday after the gym just to get my eyebrows done, but ended up also getting my first gel set (on natural nails) and a color change on my toes. Well worth the splurge...all that came out to be $40. Pros: + Eye Brow Waxing - Karen is a MACHINE. Literally, the use of her tweezer felt as if she was using some type of electric tool on my brows. She went to town on my untamed wild eyebrows at lightening speed and took em all out. It did not hurt as much as some of the other yelp reviews said it then. I've had way worse. She is very conversational and personable yet manages to keep her clients comfortable. Eye brows cost $8 + French tip Gel nails on natural nails, they look and feel amazing - very shiny as if they are fake. I am worried about how they will come off on it's own...eh worry about that later! Gel nail set cost $27 + parking lot =) Cons: - The ambiance of this place is not amazing, far from it. I would not come here to relax, the fumes are too strong. I come here to get things done! So far this is the best Nail place in San leandro that I've been to. If you get the deluxe pedi, you get a mud mask on your feet along with a foot massage. I'm just echoing the sentiment of everyone here, but Karen is absolutely fantastic. I haven't gotten my nails done here yet, but as far as eyebrow waxing -- she's the best! Trust me, I am VERY particular about my eyebrows. For a year or two, I was going all the way to San Francisco to get my eyebrows done at the swanky, boutique Blink because they didn't wax. They have a reputation as eyebrow experts, and they're very particular about brows (tweezing or threading only). Unfortunately, the girl who I always went to ended up leaving Blink, and I ended up leaving, as well. It also became WAY too expensive for me. Needless to say, I have been searching FOREVER to find someone local to do my brows...and thank god for Karen! Even though it's wax, she is the best.
