What a quaint spot for some pho on a cold, dark night. The highlight for me is the pork belly banh mi. An altogether amazing sandwich. Not made with a traditional light, crisp baguette bread and tangy pickled carrot and daikon, this sandwich has a really hearty grain bun with a healthy portion of pork and veg. Light carrot and daikon with veg. This is a 5 star sandwich. The beef pho is ok. Served fast food style with chopped basil and sprouts included, rather than plated on the side, this pho is a basic beef broth that lacks the depth of flavor of a traditional pho. The sweet undertones from cinnamon and star anise just aren't there. If it were, this would probably be a $20 bowl instead of $12. As expected, but not the rich flavors of a traditional pho. The tofu bao buns (vegan) were nicely sauced and filled with veggies and tofu--super delicious, and I probably would have ordered more to make it a meal instead of getting the pho. The vegan pho was filling and warm for a cold day. It was simple and satiating. I also had the coconut pudding, which had sago in coconut cream topped with peanuts and sesame seeds--a nice sweet finish to the meal. Only had to wait 5 minutes for the food. Really cool fast casual spot in Berry Hill with some indoor and a lot of outdoor seating with string lights setup. Employees were all great when we ordered, and it only took about 10 minutes for our food to come out to our table. The food: Pork Belly Bahn Mi: My sandwich was pretty big and full of pork belly which was great. Fair warning it comes with jalapeño so if you aren't a fan of spicy ask for that to be kept off. The bread was good but nothing that will blow your mind. Pork Belly Bao Buns: These were a real treat. Small, decadent, and pack a big punch for 3-4 bites before you're done with them. I'd recommend getting them and splitting them so you end up each trying one. Overall, really happy we tried Vuis and I imagine we will be back in the not so distant future :) read more

I'm Vietnamese so I think I can say whoever Vui is, she must not be very proud of Vietnamese cuisine. This is not Vietnamese food, it's not even close - and it's not even good whatever the heck you wanna call it. I don't put too much stock in authenticity, but the reason the real stuff is famous is because it's just really good - something that the favorless bowls emanating from this abyss doesn't even hint at. The pho is like straight Swanson's broth poured on overcooked goop-noodles with a bunch of green onions on top; I've never seen tiny strips of sirloin over beef "pho". They still overcharge for this rubbish at $15 a bowl for "beef pho"! For their fresh offerings of rice and noodle bowls - some of my favorite. Noodles are overcooked and infantilized. The fish sauce tastes like water down ketchup. And they somehow manage to burn the meat but not have any hint of smokiness in the flavor! Best thing about this place is the restroom, which is cleaner than average to their credit. I wish they spent as much time flavoring their food as they do cleaning their bathroom... Yes, there's a reason you see no Asians in this place: we don't want to be associated with this kind of food. If you've never had pho before, please, please skip this place so it can (metaphorically) die the death it properly deserves. read more

No. I get pho at least 3x a week and I travel across the USA/world for work and fun (CA, TX, NC, AR, AZ, Mx, and UT in the last few months alone). This isn't pho. At least the takeout version wasn't- can't vouch for the dine in version. The broth is wrong and too little of it to the noodle/topping ratio. And arrived too cold to cook the steak even though my delivery guy delivered it 10 mins after it was wrapped. The flavor was off and the broth was cloudy. The beef was cut super thick to where the steak doesn't get cooked through with soup that is even hot enough. The broth tasted like beef broth from a can. The fish was like frozen and thrown on to heat up. It was hard on the edges and not like good crispy but nasty. I don't recommend this new dish what-so-ever and stick to their bowls/soups. The Bao buns also were not expected as to what I have had before. We came here because we didn't want to stand in the line for Baja Burrito across the street. Wow! This was my second time to go there and the first was fantastic during this past winter. This time though it was like a nightmare. I suggested a friend meet me there and I am so embarrassed. The place was so dirty and the floor was so sticky that I could have lost a shoe on that floor. I guess they don't have any air conditioning because it was about as hot inside as it was outside (and we're in a record heat wave of over 90 degrees), and there were flies all over the place landing on our table and food. UGH. I was left wondering if they were in compliance with food safety regulations. Now for the staff. The young dark haired woman who I gather was in charge was doing her best soup Nazi impression and when she finally could be bothered to acknowledge that there were customers she snarled at them. All the staff seemed afraid to engage her. We had ordered some appetizers and wanted an extra small plate to divide them up and she refused, but did grudgingly give us a small bowl (????!!!!) which really wasn't appropriate for the appetizers and she knew that very well. The food that had been so fantastic in the winter, was poorly prepared. I got a salad and in the bottom of my bowl was a lake of some type of liquid. Not flavorful and nowhere near as tasty or fresh seeming as it had been last time. That young woman needs to find her calling because managing this restaurant is not it. The sign says that they treat people like family and like to let people see their personalities. Well, if this was family it is an abusive and dysfunctional family and I could have gone without seeing her immature temper tantrum type behavior. I will not be back. Oh and I arrived home to find that they had invaded my privacy by collecting my cell phone information and I got a text from them soliciting another visit. On a pleasant spring day, we sat at picnic tables under large red shade sails high above, with beautiful smells wafting from the kitchen and chatty patrons at all tables. Even Vui herself picked up our dishes and conversed with us, a co-owner of restaurants in 12 states who isn't above bussing tables and checking on customers. Berry Hill is a small enclave within Nashville, a tiny city with an area only four times the square footage of America's largest mall. But within this minuscule 0.9-square-mile, predominantly industrial region lies no fewer than 10 of Nashville's greatest restaurants, a city where you can't go wrong for lunch. Vui's Kitchen prominently sits at the strategic intersection of Bransford and Heather, welcoming motorists into this small neighborhood of charming little homes, many of which have been converted to music studios and eateries. It is here that one can enjoy authentic Vietnamese delights reminiscent of the cuisine I've enjoyed during my visits to Vietnam. This is the real deal. The original phở, the most well known of all Vietnamese dishes, is brilliantly refreshing with thinly-shaved slices of high quality beef in a bone broth simmered for 12 hours. These are NOT those noticeably tough, flavorless, cheap cuts of meat that are pawned off on patrons at many restaurants. This is like eating steak in a flavorful soup with an abundance of rice noodles and bean sprouts. From the complexity of the cilantro and Thai basil to the subtle heat of jalapeños and sriracha, Vui's simply nails the perfect phở. The appetizers are just as tremendous. You MUST order the pork belly bao buns, two small, open-faced sandwiches with unbelievably tender and succulent pork belly piled high on chewy lotus leaf bread. This was the highlight of the meal! The shrimp summer rolls are also good, with lemongrass shrimp and veggies wrapped in chewy rice paper with one of the better peanut sauces I've had. Speaking of sandwiches, Vui's also makes one of my favorite Vietnamese foods, the bánh mì sandwich, for which I must return. This is an ideal lunch for any fan of Southeast Asian cuisine! read more

I wanted to love this place! Pho is definitely one of my favorite meals on a chilly day. When you walk in, you're greeted by delicious smells. We ordered a beef pho, spring rolls, and noodles with pork belly. The spring rolls were a bit small and seemed like they had been made a bit ago. Still tasty and the sauce was great. The noodles with pork belly were ok; the pork belly was quite fatty. The beef pho didn't have the umami you'd expect from pho broth. Vui's is COVID-era dining goals. My friend and I met at the Berry Hill location for lunch. You order at the counter (all employees following social distancing guidelines and wearing masks) then they hand you a number and bring your food out when it is ready. We both ordered rice bowls, I got the lemongrass pork belly and added a fried egg and my friend got the lemongrass chicken. I also got a basil seed limeade which was refreshingly unique. They have a few tables on their deck then several picnic tables in their outdoor dining area that is shaded by trees. Even in the humid Tennessee summer heat it was pleasant to eat outside. There were a few too many flies but not Vui's fault. The lemongrass pork belly was delicious and I'm glad I did the fried egg since that went well in the rice bowl as well. The bowl also had many of the fixings that are in the bahn mi sandwiches (meat and veggies on baguette) and a mild dressing/sauce to pour over the bowl. If you've never had Vietnamese food before it is very veggie-centric with some pickled vegetables on their dishes, lots of toppings, and is a mix of Asian/French influences. Some examples of other menu items are spring rolls and pho which is a soup with rice noodles. Dining at a new place during these weird times of 2020 can be stressful but the staff was great, the food came out fast and I felt that health considerations were properly adhered to. Let's preface this by reminding ourselves we are in Nashville. I haven't seen more than 2 people of any Asian ethnicity, much less any specifically Vietnamese, in the last 7 days. That said, Vui's is as close to authentic Vietnamese food, as I think one can possibly find this far north of the West Bank of New Orleans. We had 1. banh mi (sandwich) with steak, 2. pho (beef broth and noodles) with beef, 3. salad with pork belly, 4. goi cuon (fresh summer rolls in rice paper wrap), and 5. bun (rice noodles) with chicken and veggies. 6. Avocado shake Almost all the ingredients were correctly presented, very fresh, and there was good flavor. It's just that I've lived for more than 25 years in US cities with huge Vietnamese populations, and this only ends up making me notice all the subtle differences. The flavor of the pho broth was on the milder side- not as richly nuanced as a stock that has been simmering for 24 hrs. The beef in the pho was a big, already-boiled-unsliced wad, instead of millimeter thin, raw slices which should cook quickly in a boiling hot broth at the table. The plate of basil, sprouts and chili slices that usually accompanies pho was missing too. The sandwich tasted great, and the bread and meat quality were really good. In the salad, instead of bean sprouts, there was cabbage? Still, the 2 thick pork belly strips atop the veggies were perfectly cooked, rich and tender with a delicious layer of fat. The dressing was a tasty blend of sesame, sugar and vinegar. But I couldn't detect a single drop of the requisite fish sauce. As for the steak banh mi- it was delicious with perfectly crispy and soft bread with marinated radish, carrots and chili peppers that packed a punch. The summer roll contents were right, but they looked like they had been wrapped by either 6 year olds or inexperienced staff. They were too small, not full enough, and highly irregular and pinched on the ends. But if you closed your eyes, they tasted just fine. Lastly the avocado shake was too thick for regular straws and came in an airline-sized plastic cup . Typical Vietnamese shakes come with thick straws to handle the boba and thick blend, and this shake was denser than normal. Which is good, because it probably wasn't made from a prepackaged mix, but bad because it ate more like a pudding. The lovely outdoor picnic tables in the shade made it a lovely spot for our afternoon meal. I am giving 5 stars to support an under-appreciated cuisine striving to improve the city's culinary diversity. read more

I was happy that my noodle bowl had options to customize it, adding things, leaving things off. We were starving and really craving some pho and decided to stop by this restaurant. The pho was alright, but it probably tasted better because I was so hungry. The broth wasn't as flavourful as some of the more authentic Vietnamese restaurants in the area, and there wasn't a lot of meat or other toppings. The restaurant itself is small so there isnt a lot of seating, especially during busy hours and the parking lot is even smaller. It seems to be more of a grab and go kind of restaurant. The food is ok if you're in a pinch and not looking to drive somewhere else, but there are definitely better and more authentic places for pho in Nashville. read more
