Tried the one in the Assembly Hall. Tried with high hopes... left with sirf dukh. The spring rolls were basically cabbage parcels -- no carrot, no balance, just cabbage doing zabardasti. Almost bitter, like it was mad at me personally. Ordered the parang curry and specifically asked for heat. What I got instead was dessert curry -- soooo sweet it forgot it was Thai. Spice level: 0/10, emotional damage: 10/10. The chicken? Rubbery enough to qualify for a stress ball. Zero flavor, zero joy. Overall: Hard pass. The food here was everything I was wanting for lunch! The space is naturally bright and modern. The staff was very nice, but it did feel sporadic at some points. The parking was also kind of confusing-- they offer a code, but I believe we were in the wrong garage to use it. To start with the positive aspects, this place was clean and the spring rolls and Tom Yum were ok. The disappointing part for us was the beef salad. Was more like a stir fried beef on top of iceberg lettuce. Wasn't what we imagine when we eat beef salad. We enjoy more fresh and light with an authentic sauce. I got the red curry noodle soup with fried tofu. The dish was very balanced, not too spicy, but still flavorful. They let me sub the lettuce for mushroom, which I appreciated. The soup was quite thick, exactly like Thai red curry entrees that are coconut milk based, rather than normal water based soups. The portion was generous, definitely enough for two meals. My friend got the Mongolian noodles and spicy edamame appetizer, which were both great options. The edamame had just the right amount of spice to give a kick but not overwhelm. The Malaysian noodles were a good mix of a little spice and sweet. Whatever the sauce is in there is really good. Chicken with the noodles and Chinese sausage went well. It took a little bit of time for our dishes to come out, but we were a party of 6, so perhaps the kitchen was backed up. The pad Thai had very little color, which means there is a shortage of tomato/tamarind flavoring, and the papaya salad was SPICYYYY!! We had seen some good reviews for this place and found ourselves lucky to try this on our first day in Nashville. We ordered a few different dishes here with different spice levels and meat options and every single person thoroughly enjoyed their food. All their servings were great and enough for one person, in fact their red curry could easily feed two ppl if you got an extra bowl of rice with it. Their food is rich in flavor and some of their dishes can be considered a healthy option as well. The place is clean, their service is quick, the staff is nice and give you a good idea of what you are ordering. Got takeout - drunken noodle (pad kee mao) with tofu. When I went inside, there was nobody in front, and nobody was doing any service for the dine-in guests either. After waiting for a few minutes at the counter where takeout was, nobody showed up and I walked to the kitchen and asked through the open door about how to get pickup. Terrible. As for the food, I wasn't pleased; the first time I came here was surprisingly good so I'm disappointed this time, especially because pad kee mao is a pretty standard noodle dish that's served in all Thai restaurants. All the noodles were stuck together, it was pretty bad. Asked for spicy and they gave me a container of spicy oil on the side, instead of adding spicy peppers inside the noodles themselves. Good amount of basil and tofu, along with broccoli and onion, but definitely could do with more vegetables in general. For the price and quality, it's pretty expensive at $16. The food is the main focus for this review. The pad Thai was so tasty and was a large serving. It was on special for $10 so I had to get it. We ordered the spring rolls and crab Rangoon to start us off. I enjoyed crab Rangoon, and I loved the peanut sauce for the spring rolls. I got a Thai tea to go and omg, these are just so dang good. It was sweeter than ones I've had before, so I'd recommend splitting it with someone or saving some if you don't want a sugar overload. Easy service, wasn't busy so was tended to quickly. Definitely not my go-to Thai. I only ever go here if I'm starving for Thai food and Smiling Elephant has a wait upwards of 30 minutes. The restaurant is usually empty, and though the servers are friendly, it does feel a little odd and deserted inside. I've tried both their Pad See Ew and their Esane Fried Rice, both of which were average. You don't get a huge portion so it's not like the Smiling Elephant where you usually will have leftovers. It's about the right size for a hungry person. The Pad See Ew was pretty flavorful, though didn't have as much chicken or as many vegetables as I would have liked, and was a little bit spicier than the normal level of Pad See Ew (which isn't a traditionally super spicy dish). read more

Let me start by saying, I've been to this location, about a dozen or so times. Yesterday's experience however, was awful. To start, it took about 10 minutes to figure out who our server was. (Disclaimer- It may have been her very first day. I respect that, and understand it can be overwhelming for new servers. However, the Manager that was there, provided no help to her, and she was clearly struggling. She was so nervous/shy, she could barely speak, nor did she know how to order the food, on their tablet device. She also didn't know the menu at all (Couldnt find edamame to place our appetizer order.). Again, I blame the Manager that was on duty there, as he just let her fumble around) Here is the real problem. Their food is delicious, but only when your order is made correctly. I have ordered the same meal, about a dozen times. It was made properly exactly one time. on our first visit about 10 months ago. The inconsistency is awful. I have two simple requests. No bean sprouts, and no Chinese sausage. I get both in my meal, ALL THE TIME. My customer asked for a very minor change, when he ordered. That wasn't done either. I honestly love the food here. But if you can't make a few minor changes/deletes, than at least say so up front. I'm tired of my customers, and myself, having to pick through a meal, that wasn't made properly. I don't like updating a 5 star review, down to a 2 star. but I've been so patient, and honestly, just tired of the blatant lack of caring, or listening. read more

Came in at 11:30 on a Wednesday. Dead as a door nail. Thought "okay maybe it's a big take out place." Which they did have a lot of take out orders. We had the chicken dumplings as an appetizer and they were good but pretty dry. I had a couple questions on the menu, one specific question about the term "drunken". Growing up some in California and being surrounded by Thai locations, the term "drunken" tends to mean spicy. I asked the server what this means on their menu and he said "it's just the name. No reference to sauce or spice or anything." Okay hmm that seems odd. So I proceed to order the drunken fried rice with chicken. This was quite possibly the most bland and dry dish I have ever had at a Thai restaurant. The server never came back after serving our main entree. I had to ask for the bill. It was brought out and I asked for an itemized receipt. The wrong receipt was brought to me. I waited THIRTY minutes for him to come back and he walked past our table 4 times and I could never get his attention. I ended up leaving w the incorrect receipt and still hungry but had a $47 bill. If you like bland Thai (which I didn't know was possible) and poor service, this is the place for you! read more

I had my first visit at the new Thai Esane recently since their move from 8th Ave. it didn't disappoint. I ordered the Khao soi with shrimp. It was an excellent soup and the shrimp were large. Thai Esane is a great place for authentic Thai in a nicer venue. The service was only so so, but there was also only one waitress. The soup had mild spice but was still very good and authentic. Walking into the restaurant, I made note of the simplistic interior design with its open ceiling, big windows with natural lighting, and neutral colored theme. Outdoor seating was available. The steamed dumplings were homemade, but $8 for 4 is a little expensive. Still tasted nice though. Spring rolls were rolled very thick with a lot of vegetables. Peanut sauce was perfect. I thought the bell peppers in the Tom kha soup was strange and the flavor was okay. The Malaysian noodle was great and would recommend it if you're looking for a noodle dish. The esane sausage had good flavors but the consistency wasn't right. The sausage fell apart easily, which explains why the sausage was cut very thickly compared to the menu picture. The papaya salad was heavily drenched in liquid; wish they could have drained it before plating. I didn't care for the spare ribs and Bangkok wings. Spare ribs were overcooked and the wings were also drenched in sauce. Both the spare ribs and Bangkok wings had the same garnish, which weren't accurate to the pictures from the menu. Service was excellent and attentive - waters refilled multiple times and food came out in reasonable time. read more

I love Assembly Food Hall since there are so many different places to try. When it first opened my friends tried Thai Esane and raved all about it so I finally decided to give it a try. It was good but nothing amazing. The service was alright. I stood at the register for a hot second before anyone recognized I was there and came to take my order. Once I ordered they took my name and phone number and texted when my food was ready which was very convenient. The curry itself was a bit spicer than I expected since it was described as a "sweet and savory" peanut based curry. The rice didn't seem super fresh either. I've heard better things about the noodles dishes so maybe I should have skipped the curry and opted for the pad thai. read more

I love the shrimp wrap appetizer, it's like an egg roll but the inside is just shrimp. We always get the papaya salad and yes it was super spicy, just how we like it. I've been visiting Thai Esane for about 4 years now before they moved to Division St. Their new location is really nice and would make a great spot for a date night! They offer free parking in the garage next door. I haven't tried a single thing here that I haven't loved. I'm a huge fan of their Pad Thai and their Drunken Noodles. Be careful with the spice level!
