I was a bit hesitant due to the low ratings and comments about bad service but I'm glad I went! The store is somewhat small with the walls lined with dried treats as well as some in the center of the store. It's a quiet place with not a lot of customers so you get most of the attention. I was quickly greeted by two lovely ladies who asked me if I needed anything and prompted me to try some of the beef jerky. They let me try all of the flavors and asked me what kind I like. I was looking for the spicy beef lime flavor but they didn't seem to have it. They did have a chicken version though which was tasty. At the end of checkout, they gave me some tea as I was leaving. I would definitely go here again if I needed some jerky! A bit pricy but good for gifts. read more

The "Beef Jerky" (and "Pork Jerky") runs about $35-40 per pound with a 1/2 pound minimum. It is high quality product, I think originates from Los Angeles. They generously offer samples to try. It's overall an expensive treat, a good snack. read more

I haven't had dried guava in years, and I stumbled upon this store by chance. The 芭樂乾 was chewy, flavorful, and delicious--instantly brought back so much nostalgia that I ended up buying a lot. The ladies working here were super friendly and welcoming, and they encourage you to try different snacks. While the dried guava does have preservatives so it's not something to eat all the time, it's incredibly tasty. Such a fun find! read more

Vua Kho Bo has long been my family favorite for their instant "cooling" tea and we almost always make a stop here when we make the trek down to Cupertino. I'm curious about all the reviews on rude service because we never get any thing but top notch service and it's not like we're buying up the store either. Sure, staff will just tail you around the store trying to sell you anything you looked at for more than 2 seconds but other than that, nothing crazy. We were given samples of the red date tea and also a couple of their same product, but as a chilled jello. We ended up purchasing about a pound of the teas and a pound of roasted fava bean snacks, maybe $30-35 total. Still going to continue to come back! read more

I came in here to see what they had and the lady working here kindly helped me get some BBQ smoked octopus that they had and put it in a bag. She was very nice and the octopus is delicious. 10/10 would come again read more

Large variety of delicious Chinese snacks! The lady was very friendly and let us try samples before buying. Just be aware that they only sell in bulk (minimum 1/4 pound). read more

The other reviewers were right! SUPER rude in so many overt and also passive aggressive ways. Would not let us try some of the sour plums (just said it was "similar" even though they were clearly different on the label). My Chinese is only so-so and I asked him to speak in English but he keep going in Chinese, described one plum as a slightly different flavor but in Chinese and then said it wasn't his fault if I didn't understand him. I bought some stuff since I was with my kids but I told him his behavior was extremely rude and we will not ever be going back. Just save yourself the high blood pressure and avoid it if you don't want rude service. read more

Super rude! I wish I had read the reviews before entering. I love Asian jerky and wanted to check this place out after eating at a nearby restaurant. When my friend's mom started reaching for some dried orange peels that I said I wanted to buy, an older man came out from the back and started admonishing her in Chinese. I didn't understand but my Chinese friend translated for me. Apparently, he was saying that we weren't allowed to scoop the stuff out ourselves because when people do that, according to him, they only take the big pieces and leave the smaller ones behind. Fine, whatever. More talking in Chinese that I didn't understand but his voice and mannerism were anything other than polite. Another ding against his attitude was that he scooped this massive amount, and when I said I just wanted half, he poured like 5% back and gave me the rest. It ended up being a pound and costing almost $30! And he would only accept cash. There were several other things I had wanted to buy but after having experienced that, I just paid for the orange peels so that we could get out of there. I actually wish I hadn't bought it and instead called him out on his behavior and just walked out. I hate that I supported this business. Although I didn't understand what he was saying, he seemed so unnecessarily disrespectful to my friend's 70-year old mom and acted like we were a huge bother. Very rarely do I leave negative reviews, but if ever a business deserved one, this one sure does. read more

I am being generous with one star but the old man is so rude! The snacks are great but grandpa needs to not treat the customers like thieves. We are trying the product to figure out which one we want to buy. But he cut us off after two samples, he even told one of the other women workers there not to give us more. I'm already spending $18-26 a pound on these dried fruits. The least they could do is help us out to find what we would like to spend money on, instead of outright ignoring us after the fact. read more

Wow!!! If I could give this place zero or negative stars I would. Looks like I am not the only one, as I agree with the other reviews that customer service is a total nightmare. The lady who works here was extremely rude as I was trying to make a purchase so I just was walked away and not give her my business. read more

Why is it every time I come at the end of the day, the fucking old man with glasses is always pacing around inside with the doors locked? They're supposed to close at 8:30pm, I arrive at 8:15pm, and the doors are again locked and that old man is walking around and shakes his head refusing to do anything. It's annoying as hell. read more

The service was slow and the prices are very high. I would not go back there again . The ambiance was packed and the store was too small

I wanted to buy just a little bit of their preserved sour plum and the lady insisted on pouring more. She said I couldn't have less cause there's a minimum. I asked what it was and she would tell me. She told the other lady to weigh what she poured so she could tell me the minimum... it was about $9 and then she clicked some things and it turned to $10 something. I asked if I could have half and the other lady yelled NOO $10 MINIMUM!! Shit. No need to yell lady. I obviously walked out as soon as she yelled that. Please don't support these people read more

Agree with other comments, the staff especially the old man guy with glasses are so rude! I just realized that some of the stuff I bought was not fresh and they are not cheap too! This place is situated inside Cupertino Village and a great place to make a pitstop when you are waiting for a seat at one of the adjacent restaurants which was exactly why we checked this place out. Upon stumbling in, we were greeted and offered some "healthy" tea. The clerks were also very eager to have you try any of the many many dried goods they sell. Since I'm not a fan of any of the preserved fruits, I'm fine with just sticking with the beef jerky. Chinese beef jerky is usually pretty moist and can sometimes be sticky due to the sweet glaze brushed on during the drying process. Eating this was nostalgic for me and the reason why I stopped in. My immediate draw was to the traditional fruit jerky which is a little sweet and not as salty as the traditional American beef jerky. I asked which was their best seller and was shown the spicy beef jerky which was excellent. It was tender, very lean, moist, and you don't risk pulling out any teeth like the ones at Costco. It was also much spicier and makes you immediately breathe through your mouth to cool off your tongue. I like that you are able to sample everything in this store and the clerks are eager for you to try them all HOWEVER they are too pushy and I don't like it that the guy plays stupid when I very clearly voiced the fact that I wasn't interested in buying a whole pound of each. He just stuffed the bag and filled it regardless and then pretended to put it aside like he was gonna put it away later only to fetch it again when it was time to checkout. I don't care which country you are from but an open hand signaling a STOP motion does not mean a yes. Don't play dumb with me and pretend you don't understand . I literally had to pull that stupid bag off the scale because he was so hard up on a bigger sale. Don't be the Jerk in Jerky King. Pushy sales tactics never works but great tasting, high quality jerky does. read more

Cool spot, franchise shop owns by Chinese family, tuck in the back behind the 99 Ranch Market. They let you sample everything. Higher priced car than places in East San Jose, but also clean shop and attentive service. Mom loves the salted plum and dried Shiitake mushroom here. I love the Beef Jersey French style. Dad loves the dried okra and green tea. My parents are willing to drive twice as far to get it here, instead of the one in the Grand Century. read more

They have a lot of variety on dried fruits, snack, candies, jerky, Asian treats that are unknown to me. I did buy honey beef jerky which was very delicious and a must try. I bought a small sweet dried fruit that had a seed inside. I think it was tamarind. You are greeted upon walking in and you are handed a small cup of tea which I thought was nice. Any question that you have they will answer and will let you sample everything. After sampling they will ask you if you liked it. If you say yes. They will ask you "how much you want to buy? $5? 10?" They assume that you want to buy if you like what you are sampling. If you ask for 1/2 lb or 1 lb of anything. They will toss more than what you asked for into the bag. So keep an eye out for that. The twp older ladies working here are pushy. I wanted them to go away and I wanted the cute young girl with the big beautiful eyes to help me out, but the older ladies stepped in and my sweet angel stepped back :,( read more

The saff in in Coupertino store hate kids! The staff was very rude to us out of the blue, and complained about kids. While he is very nice to other customers without kids. We were totally shocked. Don't go. Terrible customer services will make you regret. They always force you to buy more. I don't understand their logic to do business

The food is really good. But sales are terrible, always force to buy more. And if you just want to buy small amount, they will show bad face and even make fun of you. So.. This is the place I used to work at.. If you are craving for some authentic Taiwanese dried fruit or jerky you are definitely in the right place. My favorites are the dried hawthorn, mushroom chips, okra chips & pork jerky, and trust me when I say they are deeelicious! They also carry tea bricks that come in 3 different flavors, which can be made into a jelly; I thought that was pretty cool! The store is also selling Natureland products, an example of that is a fiber drink that's called "the king of concentrated fiber" it has tons of positive health benefits, and the only side effect, according to the store manager, is weight loss. However, be sure to consult with your physician before taking any fiber supplement! Store's usually clean and service is always friendly, a drink sample is offered to every customer that came through the door. As for the goods, if you are not sure about the taste, don't worry! Just ask for a sample, you can practically have a 5-course meal just by walking around the store! LOL! Every thing's made through a nature process, so no bad stuff for your body. The sale tactic is pretty aggressive and contrary to popular belief the workers are not paid on commission. I repeat, this is not a commission-based job!! The entire time I worked there, I've always been told I'm not putting enough in the bag for customers. Oh, the pressure!! :( And I have to admit, I'm guilty as charged when it comes to giving 1lb instead of 1/4lb. But, hey! Till this day it still haunts my dreams! It's actually one of the reasons I left, the other reason is this old woman I worked with is always badmouthing me behind my back, she even dropped hints to the boss that I don't speak English. (I KNOW RIGHT?!!) Anyway, there is a scale near the cash register, if you feel like you have too much in your bag, no biggie, just ask whoever's helping you to take some out~ read more

I've been wanting to write this, because I wish someone would have advised me the tricks they use at this place to increase your spending. I don't think they're being evil - just think of it as a bazaar-like atmosphere where you have to be street smart. This place was also written up in a Chinese newspaper (World Journal) for their questionable tactics, and my friends all know about it too. First things first, they do have great snacks - beef jerky & pork jerky especially...high quality whole muscle portions, not the chopped & formed stuff or the hard to chew kind. My parents loved eating it, and so did all their Chinese friends. So it's a great gift you can bring to out-of-town Chinese folk, instead of the standard bakery sweets that people normally get. So here's the tips to avoid getting snookered: 1. They will ALWAYS put in more than you ask....if you ask for 1/2 pound, they give you one pound. This makes a huge difference when the beef jerky can be $28/pound. So when they finally weigh it out, tell them to take the extra weightt out. They do their best to discourage this by sealing your package quickly so you have to ask them to break it and create another package. 2. They will often price different variety items at the highest price. We got one flavor of beef jerky at $22/lb and another at $29/lb....they weighed everything at the $29/lb price. So pay attention to the scale and unit price displayed! 3. Using the two tips above will prevent you from spending 2x-3x (!) what you planned. And if you ever have any doubt or sense something isn't quite right, do not pay! Take some time to think it through before you hand over the cash or card, cause they don't do refunds....or they'll give you a sketchy handwritten store credit piece of paper that you'd be embarrassed to bring back. 4. It doesn't hurt to ask for a discount or freebies they can throw in. At the very least, ask for a bunch of free samples to try in-store....cause you'll be paying expensive prices for their stuff. read more

So the translation of the name is King of Stewed Beef? The sign outside says Jerky King. I thought the name alone was enough to check it out. Tons of dried goods, fruits, meats, you name it they'll Jerky it I guess. After looking around I was told that the prices have a decent sized markup but I guess the quality is high. Tonight is the first time and also the last time I come to this place. They really give customer TERRIBLE AND BAD SERVICES . I walk to this place about 6:40 pm, I walk around to check the item I want. There is one old man, he was quiet - he didn't say anything - did not even say "hi" . There is one old lady - she stared at me and asked you are looking for something?" And keep staring at me. ( of course, I want to buy something and I come to ur store, if I don't look for anything, why I am here ) with the action she gave to me, I asked her " are you closing?" She said " ya" . I just don't know why she welcomed the customer like that, or she assumed that I would not buy anything from her store so she gave me a fucking services. AND IF SHE WANT TO CLOSE THE STORE. JUST TELL ME " WE ARE CLOSE NOW" that is simple , right? Why she expects customer know the business hours. REALLY BAD ! read more

We visited this store on a weekday night. The owner is very friendly and offered different samples to us. It made us feel bad that we did not need to purchase anything. I tried different fruit/veggie chips and pork jerky. The chips are okay, the taro does not seem to be very fresh. The pork jerky is very sweet. Not really my type. I really want this place to be successful since I like the owner a lot. She is smiling all the time and she is very generous in giving out samples. If I were an investor in this store, one thing I would suggest is that - pack the food into small plastic bags as you can see in grocery stores. For example, $28/lbs mushroom chips can be packed into small bags and sold at $2.8 per package. Customers will be more willing to purchase if you have clear labeled price and quantity for each item. read more

Jerky King has the two rudest ladies. Came here to buy some sour plums and jerky. My kid and I smiled and said hello when we walked in. As soon as we walked in, they started giving us dirty looks and talking in mandarin. Guess what? I understand mandarin...and yes we just ate Korean food across the way...and to say we smell like tofu??? Your breathe smells like a rhino's behind while your walking closely behind me. My teenage kid was pointing at the tubs asking me what it is, and they're yelling don't touch. Don't touch the label on the outside that has the name on it???? She didn't even touch anywhere near the top of the lid! I will never return to this store with those two witches that work there. Seriously you sell dry plums...etc! I had a very similar experience to other reviewers. They offer tea when you first walk in and offer many samples. However, they will insist on filling bags for you and give you way more than you intend. Be prepared for ~$10+ per bag for non-meat items. Service is 1*. Their saving grace is that the items are really delicious and unique. I find the dried mushroom chips and wild mango in honey completely captivating so put the food at 5*, this the 3* review. Thanks to the other reviewers for the good tips! Tell them the weight of half of what you want and watch them weigh the items and you'll have a fine time. read more

Delicious jerky and assorted dried treats! So I was walking around this little mall with a friend looking to get some boba when we passed this place. We saw a bunch of buckets filled with treats so we couldn't say no. We walk in and immediately are offered tea. It was really good. And also very well played because then I felt obligated to buy something. Clever! We were also offered free samples. Two types of jerky which were both delicious. And dried mango and dried guava. Both were phenomenal but the mango transcended space and time and exploded my taste buds. When we asked how much the mango was the nice saleswoman said it was $13/lb. but quickly said we didn't need to buy a pound. We however were very down to buy a pound each. And trust me, I've gone to pound town on that pound since then. Just so good! I suggest you head over here and eat a lot! read more

Just came from this store today. Everything is fresh and you can taste anything you like. In fact you can't go five feet into the store before a sample is being shoved in your face. We came in the store out of curiosity and found some great tasting items. The problem is we left the store with a bad taste in our mouths. Many items we liked and agreed to buy we told them we only wanted a little, but to our surprise the weight at the till was over one pound!!! The total was over $100! Pressure sales are the norm here. Add to that outright disregard for the customers instructions and I feel all the staff would have made out great in used car sales. In any case the tactic backfired for them. If they had honored our instruction a lot of repeat business would have gone their way, as well as recommendations to our friends (and Yelp). We won't be going back soon. read more

Ok, this jerky place is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you're strong-hearted and strong-willed, then I suggest you try this place out! They sure make jerkies out of everything here. There are some jerkies that I recognize, not to mention chow-down on, and there are some worth tasting, and tasting them I did. I ended up buying the spicy beef jerky. One thing to mention, however, they sell by the pound, and it is quite pricey. Great jerky, but pricey. If you like asian-type jerky, I think you will like this place. If you're an adventurer in terms of trying food, this place is worth the adventure. Wanna try the ginseng jerky? Thought so lol...wink! read more

What can I say? The Hubs loves his dried prunes! Apparently they tastes just as he remembers it from the motherland. Luckily this place conveniently shares the vicinity with my newest addiction known as Ten Ren, that way I'm able to frequently stop in every week or so for a pound. I must comment on my amusement, as each time I come in they load me up with samples and service! To be quite honest though, I can't really tell the difference in some of the flavor selections they offer. They definitely insist on educating you otherwise though! read more

I am surprised that this type of store sales still exists in U.S. They treat the customers like tourists, i.e. one time shoppers. Once we stepped into the store, four clerks jumped around you and pressed you to buy. When we agree to buy something, they put far more than we asked into the bags. Not sure what's up with the vietnamese name but the staff here were definitely Taiwanese. Located in Cupertino Village. They sell Taiwanese dried fruit/jerk snacks with no added preservatives, sugar, or anything else that is processed and unnatural. I was like a kid in a candy store realizing that I do not have to pay $1600/ticket and travel 13k round trip just to enjoy all these Taiwanese snacks I grew up with up!! We ended up getting: 1] mushroom chips 2] Cranberry chips 3] Dried Hawthorn - good source of antioxidant phytochemicals 4] pumpkin seeds infused with green tea I just got back from Taiwan last week so I didn't get the usual jackfruit, all sorts of olives, etc. We were still rationing what we had left (and fighting over the portions) but not anymore!! Stumbled upon this store after a weekend trip to get boba at Fantasia with friends. We were drawn in by the sign outside 'Jerky King'! What more can you ask for right? Upon walking in I was surprised to see far more than just jerky! There were bins of Mui (Moi) dried salted plum! I had just gone into two separate Ranch 99s in quest for some li hing mui. The minute my husband and I walked in there were 4 sales people all over us! "Try this... Try that...you like this" I asked for a 1/4 lb of the traditional sweet sour mui and the older woman started packing in 4X more than I wanted! Then the gentlemen got my husband over in the jerky bins. The sales people were friendly and all but boy I just feel like they took advantage of us not being OBC. Pushy- all to make a buck. As I walk in, the lady offered me tea. I told her I want dried plum. She gave me at least 3 to try. And I told her I decided which one I want. I only want quarter pound, then she told me she will give me a small bag. She ended up giving me half pound. Later she offered me mango and other dried veggie. I asked her if they added sugar in the dried mango. She said no (after I got home, I found sugar on the mango). I decided to buy a little bit mango for my 3 years old. At first, she tried to use the big bag. Then I told her I don't need that much, half pound in small bag is fine. She just kept filling it up (more than half for sure). But she stopped after I told her too. The dried mango is good, even tho I found out they added sugar. But it's still not as sweet as the one I bought from Costco or traders joe. They are very pushy. They kept offer different kind of samples for you and they would try to fill up a big bag for you. Just be careful with that. read more

Wonderful store in Cupertino Village that sells all manner of dried/preserved food -- meat, fish, fruits, vegetables.
