a sign on the door of a restaurant

Why is it every time I come at the end of the day, the fucking old man with glasses is always pacing around inside with the doors locked? They're supposed to close at 8:30pm, I arrive at 8:15pm, and the doors are again locked and that old man is walking around and shakes his head refusing to do anything. It's annoying as hell.

This place is situated inside Cupertino Village and a great place to make a pitstop when you are waiting for a seat at one of the adjacent restaurants which was exactly why we checked this place out. Upon stumbling in, we were greeted and offered some "healthy" tea. The clerks were also very eager to have you try any of the many many dried goods they sell. Since I'm not a fan of any of the preserved fruits, I'm fine with just sticking with the beef jerky. Chinese beef jerky is usually pretty moist and can sometimes be sticky due to the sweet glaze brushed on during the drying process. Eating this was nostalgic for me and the reason why I stopped in. My immediate draw was to the traditional fruit jerky which is a little sweet and not as salty as the traditional American beef jerky. I asked which was their best seller and was shown the spicy beef jerky which was excellent. It was tender, very lean, moist, and you don't risk pulling out any teeth like the ones at Costco. It was also much spicier and makes you immediately breathe through your mouth to cool off your tongue. I like that you are able to sample everything in this store and the clerks are eager for you to try them all HOWEVER they are too pushy and I don't like it that the guy plays stupid when I very clearly voiced the fact that I wasn't interested in buying a whole pound of each. He just stuffed the bag and filled it regardless and then pretended to put it aside like he was gonna put it away later only to fetch it again when it was time to checkout. I don't care which country you are from but an open hand signaling a STOP motion does not mean a yes. Don't play dumb with me and pretend you don't understand . I literally had to pull that stupid bag off the scale because he was so hard up on a bigger sale. Don't be the Jerk in Jerky King. Pushy sales tactics never works but great tasting, high quality jerky does.

Cool spot, franchise shop owns by Chinese family, tuck in the back behind the 99 Ranch Market. They let you sample everything. Higher priced car than places in East San Jose, but also clean shop and attentive service. Mom loves the salted plum and dried Shiitake mushroom here. I love the Beef Jersey French style. Dad loves the dried okra and green tea. My parents are willing to drive twice as far to get it here, instead of the one in the Grand Century.

They have a lot of variety on dried fruits, snack, candies, jerky, Asian treats that are unknown to me. I did buy honey beef jerky which was very delicious and a must try. I bought a small sweet dried fruit that had a seed inside. I think it was tamarind. You are greeted upon walking in and you are handed a small cup of tea which I thought was nice. Any question that you have they will answer and will let you sample everything. After sampling they will ask you if you liked it. If you say yes. They will ask you "how much you want to buy? $5? 10?" They assume that you want to buy if you like what you are sampling. If you ask for 1/2 lb or 1 lb of anything. They will toss more than what you asked for into the bag. So keep an eye out for that. The twp older ladies working here are pushy. I wanted them to go away and I wanted the cute young girl with the big beautiful eyes to help me out, but the older ladies stepped in and my sweet angel stepped back :,(

But it was invisible to me. Until today, anyway. I am so happy I finally found it. Because Gourmet Works is much more than a store that sells candy and chocolate. In fact, as the name would suggest, it's more of a Gourmet food store and Gift Shop than a Chocolate Shop. But it's also a hella cool chocolate shop and that's the main reason I will be sure to return. Right when you walk in the door you are surrounded by an astonishingly large variety of items that would make the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself. Because, I ain't gonna lie, there were at least a dozen items that I considered buying for myself. I thought to myself, you know, I do so much for me, and it seems I rarely properly thank myself for my devoted patronage and self care. If you are interested in high quality gourmet gifts, Gourmet Works is definitely the place to go! They carry so many products you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Gourmet Salts, Dried Herbs, Pasta Sauces, Dried Pasta, Curry Sauces, Masala Simmer Sauce, Special Preserves and Jams. An impressive, well-curated selection. Then, at the back of the store you find the kind of Chocolate display case that dreams are made of. Oh my Lord! Just the Truffle side alone would be enough to melt anyone's heart. But the other side, with the astonishing variety of hand dipped chocolates is where I lost it. I saw the Almond Bark and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at that Almond Bark. The Almond Bark stared back at me. We were locked into that stare down for what seemed like an eternity. I was sure neither of us would ever give in. But then I blinked. Somehow I became aware that the wonderful woman behind the counter was asking me if she could help me. As I regained my senses, suddenly I felt so embarrassed. How long had I been staring at that Almond Bark? How many times had she tried to get my attention? I had no idea. I tried to play it off like there was nothing going on between me and that Almond Bark. I casually inquired about some Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt on a totally different shelf in the display case. Then, of course, I had to buy a couple of those Chocolate Covered Carmels with Sea Salt, to cover up the whole situation with me and the Almond Bark. I purchased a couple ordinary, un-chocolate covered Caramels with Sea Salt too. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been more gracious. She didn't let on that she knew exactly what was happening and I wasn't fooling anyone with the whole Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt charade. So, my thanks to Gourmet Works, and the gracious woman behind the counter, Padmaja (her family owns Gourmet Works). It was such a pleasure to shop at your wonderful store! Mikey C says: I'm coming back for you, Almond Bark!

As suggested by it $9.5 a cube of candy and pretty packaging. I thought at a premium price point of $9.5 I would be getting good quality candy. This is my little luxury. And I was so excited. But.. We bought five cubes of candy, 2 of which are dark chocolate almonds. The almonds tastes oxidized, you know that rancid long expired nut taste. It's not edible. Both boxes have the same rancid taste issue. We live two hours away so it's not practical to drive back for an exchange or refund. So we called customer service. It took a long time for a representative to be available to help us but that's ok. The representative promised a full refund and shipping us a replacement. We weren't expecting that as I just want the two inedible cubes refunded. But I appreciate them promising to make it right. However, two weeks has passed and we did not receive any refund nor shipping confirmation. So we called again, which again took a long time for a representative to be available. We explained the issue, and were told the first ticket was probably not submitted. They promised again a full refund and shipping us a replacement for the two defected products. And weeks passed nothing again. We called a third time. And I really just want the two cubes of inedible candy refunded. And was told "well we refunded you". But it's been 7 weeks there was truly no refund.. After three long calls and empty promises I gave up on trying to fix it. I'm just expecting adequate quality for what I paid for but they can't deliver. This is not advertised as your average brand. So I believe customers should receive not your average product. I don't condone these empty promises and false hopes either. Candy is supposed to make us happy. But this candy caused so much heartache for us. We did everything we can to delay the review and try to resolve it first. I genuinely always believe a bad product could be an accident and the business is willing to fix it. Instead of rushing to review I always reach out and explain and resolve it. We tried and are tired. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. If you do buy their candy. Please try it before you leave the place..

As such, I hauled @$$ down here a few days back to buy a few candies and a box of See's chocolate "lollypops." This particular location had been right here for a good approx. 30 years. I remember going to it a number of times as a kid. So, hence, I had to make one last stop, if nothing else, for nostalgia's sake. On my visit, unsurprisingly, there was a long line of people who were A) getting gifts for Mother's Day, and B) buying one last item(s) from this store before their permanent closure. Overheard an employee say to another customer that the employees at this store were offered to work at other See's locations, so it's nice to know that they at least weren't laid off instead. So far, the individual chocolates I bought have been, predictably, delicious. Like in my previous review, regardless of location, you can't go wrong with See's confectionery. They're a Bay Area staple. You're gonna like the way they taste. I guarantee it. I'll miss this particular location though. But who knows? Maybe Warren Buffet will intervene and find a way to get them to stay. (Wishful thinking.) 4 stars
