I thought I wrote a review for these guys in the past but guess not. Anyways, great spot if you have a Toyota, Lexus, Honda etc. Honest people and great service. Took my older Toyota here to get service back in the day for oil changes etc. Reasonably priced. I remember thinking I needed an oil change and it turned out I didn't, they could have easily charged me but I came back 30 minutes later and they only charge $10 for a simple inspection and said I was good for another 5k miles. Vtec is close to work - they're honest and fast with my oil changes. This past visit, they told me I needed my tire pressure sensor replaced. However, they don't have that service available which was a bummer. They did ensure me that my tires were fine and weren't leaking air, and gave me the info I needed to ask my regular mechanic. Dealership quoted me over $4000 to replace my front struts, lower control arms, and alignment. VTEC guys were able to do it for half the price. The team feels reliable, trustworthy, and honest. I used to come here for 6 years for all the repairs and oil change of my car, but I think I'll stop now. Each time I came here I always asked them to do an overall check on my car and let me know what needs to be fixed/changed. They always said okay but I guess they never actually did. Recently my boyfriend noticed that the tire thread of all 4 tires seemed really shallow, so he took my car to a different shop. It turns out the tires were so worn off that it is dangerous to drive. No one at vtec noticed for some reason. I am the type of person that has no idea about cars, so I rely on my mechanic to tell me what to fix and what not. Since vtec couldn't seem to do so, I will find somewhere else that's more reliable and is willing to do business properly. read more

We used to come here all the time when we lived closer, but giving 2 stars for lack of reliability and thoughtfulness. I called at 11AM asking if I could come in for an oil change in the next half an hour. I understand an oil change takes 45 mins-1.5 hours depending on your car, so I was prepared to wait. However, when I arrived at 11:50, the person at the desk tells me that the mechanics are going for lunch, so no cars would be worked on from 12-1. Even if I had arrived at the time I said, I would have still had to wait that extra hour while everyone was at lunch. Maybe update your Yelp hours and have your staff mention that when people call? Not everyone has the luxury of dropping 2.5 hours during the work day, or having someone pick them up to avoid the wait. Safe to say, not driving the distance to come here anymore. read more

Service at Vtec has been good. I brought my Lexus and Audi, and they've done the maintenance with no problem. I was told by another mechanic that I needed brakes. Vtec could've upsold me and replaced the brakes, but they said my brakes were fine. They earned my trust when they did that. I'm hoping their honest service continues because that's the main factor, but they're also quick, priced fairly and easy to get to off the freeway. read more

UPDATE: If you're reading this, you'll notice I write a review pretty much every time I go to my mechanic LOL. But every time, I leave thinking, "this mechanic is the freaking best!" My check engine light turned on, and Vtec said after a brief evaluation that it was something related to my evaporative system and it wasn't a safety issue. "I want to fix it," I said. "Are you sure? It's not a safety issue," he said again. Ah, Vtec always looking out for my wallet. Bless them. To pinpoint the exact problem though would take up to a day to investigate. After leaving my car for a day, he says a hose had become partially unhooked. They hooked it back on, and it would be free of charge (because they didn't actually fix anything). Best mechanic ever! Also, I asked and they now work on Japanese, Korean and European cars!!! Imported cars. "Whatever you buy, we'll fix," he said. Lol. read more

These guys are amazing! I cant recommend them enough. Have been taking my Nissan Altima here ever since I got it. They quoted me the best price for a catalytic converter back in 2018. Everywhere else was way over 1k. They do not bullshit and get straight to what's going on with your car. Just last Thursday I had some jerking with my car when I pressed on the gas. I couldn't drive my car, it was not safe. I called around in Laguna Beach where it happened and one place wanted to quote me 200 just to diagnose! This is my review of Vtec from trying them blind, and in a rush. Last week, I had new tires installed at Costco. The new tires fixed my sluggish steering because my old tires were oversized wide. However, the new tires also revealed that my Accord was making popping sounds when making sharp left turns at slow speeds. I think the sounds were muffled because of the old tires, but they were too loud to ignore now. I already have a mechanic I go to in Irvine but I saw on Yelp that they were closed, probably because of Covid. As I was starting a new job, I needed to fix my car quickly. I chose Vtec based on their focus on Japanese cars like Honda. Vtec mostly has an immigrant Chinese customer base, and I could see it from the other customers. The older guy who handles front desk speaks English with a kinda heavy Chinese accent, but I'm used to it. I dropped off my car in the morning at 7:45am then got a ride from my roommate to work. I described my problem and he took some quick notes for their mechanic. I researched my car's problem and I thought it could have been a breakdown of the CV joint, so I mentioned I would like them to look at it. They called me a few hours later saying my CV joint was fine from inspection, but my lower control arm bushing was damaged, and my tie rods were worn. I asked him for a quote to replace them all, and it was a very reasonable price considering an Irvine location. About an hour later, he called again saying repairs would be delayed until the next day, because he could only get next day delivery for the lower bushing. I thought that was fine, and good of them to give me status updates. They called saying my car was ready at 10am the next day, and I picked it up just after 12 on my lunch break. After the repair, my car no longer made weird sounds on sharp left turns. Altogether good service and reasonably priced. read more

This is the best place to go for automobile servicing and repair. DO NOT confuse this place with V-tech, which is at Lake Forest and Dimension, as they are pure scam artists. As for this place, they are fair and reasonable, and I trust them, which is HUGE. Are they steadily increasing their prices, yes, but who isn't. Not that it's an excuse, but they need to survive too, and it's still much cheaper than the dealer. In fact, they have never once tried to up-sell me for things that I don't need......NOT ONCE. Go to a dealer, you'll drop $1000 for a 30k mile servicing, which is another scam. Can Vtec 'inspect, recommend, etc....' of course they can. But really, they are expert mechanics, primarily due to Danny, who's the lead mechanic. For example, my serpentine belt was showing its age, Jeff said, next oil change, you might want to change out the belt. I looked at the belt, and I could see the cracks forming, I took his advice and had the belt changed about 6 months later. They do primarily specialize in Japanese/Korean makes, but they are can work on other brands. If parts are needed, Jeff and his copart only like to use OEM parts, again it's better to go with quality as opposed to cheap Chinese parts. It appears that they are learned their lesson and realized that the OEM parts are spec'd correctly. My family has six automobiles, and this is the only place that we'll go. I am a Groupon guy, but it's not worth going to other places, when in the back of your mind, you know that they are trying to figure out how to squeeze as much out of you as they can. This is another reason why we come here, no drama. Bottom line: you can trust them and you can rest assure that you have a known good place that will take care of any issue. read more

When it comes to fixing your car, you want honest and upfront mechanics. Well look no further, this place is honest, CHEAP(er than a lot of places) and friendly! I wanted an oil change and air filter replacement and they said it would take about two hours, and sure enough, I got there at 930 and left by 1130. I forgot to ask how much it would be, but I needed it done. The total was just under $90! That's for a FULL Synthetic oil change AND an air filter! Jiffy Lube quoted me at $100+ just for the oil change. Ask them for pricing, tell them what's wrong with your car and they want to genuinely help you. They will tell you what you should look for in the future or what needed to be done to fix your car. I sat there listening to them for two hours on the phone and with other customers telling them what they did and everyone was so pleased. They will also tell you if they can help you that day or to come back another day. They also will tell you what services you need done at each milestone, major and minor, which is nice. My biggest tip is to get there early, and I mean right when they open or as close as you can to it. After 10am on Saturdays they pretty much stop taking people if they have a full line up as they close at 12. Waiting lounge is nice though with comfy seats! read more

I have had to bring my mother's Corolla in three times for the same issue in two weeks - intermittent starter issues and the engine running rough. I personally narrowed the starting issues down to the Neutral Safety Switch, Alarm system, or just the starter. Jeff just nodded, wrote it down on a post it note and forgot about it. The first time they said they fixed it we were back in the very next day after my elderly mother got stranded on the way to work. They fixed the engine running rough - faulty coils. But did nothing about the initial issues that we came in for. Once I got stranded again a few days later the issues I pointed out were confirmed when I was unable to reset the alarm and the starter wasn't working. Had to call AAA and the tech found the starter issue in less than 5 minutes after hitting it with a hammer. Now that I took it in for a third time (same issue) Jeff seemed completely unapologetic and stated that the starter would cost $400. No deal. Not even an apology for them not doing what we explicitly brought the car in for in the first place. If you value diligent detail oriented work and a mechanic that can actually diagnose problems with your vehicle then Vtec is not the place for you. I will not be bringing mine or my wife's family vehicles to Vtec and will make sure her family doesn't either. If you want your time wasted and a non dependable vehicle then by all means check them out. But you have been warned. read more
