My 3 star rating is due to the fact that these mechanically challenged mechanics get a 1 star for…read moreskill and 5 stars for effort and honesty. The thought had crossed my mind to replace the bearings on my car myself but my laziness won out over my chintziness. Well...not completely, I mean if I really wasn't cheap I would have taken my car to the dealership but in my frugal wisdom I took my car to Express Auto Center. When the entertainingly cranky owner, Peter, told me they could do the job for a quarter of what the dealer would charge I shoved the red lights going off in my mind behind the $$$ signs of saving I saw in my eyes. I knew it was a gamble but everybody likes to let 'em ride once in a while right? I also quite intuitatively surmised that Peter, with such a strong German (I think, or maybe Armenian...) accent would surely by geographical kinship alone be mechanically preferred to work on my German engineered and built vehicle. I soon realized that the incredibly low cost of the repairs was apparently due to the economical indentured labor that the clean handed, Hawaiian shirt wearing owner employed. Peter assured me that "it was most likely your tires". I told him the sound didn't change even when the tires were rotated. He said he would be happy to change the bearings if I insisted. Well, although short-lived, I was pleased when my car was ready so promptly at five o'clock just as promised. Although, I almost profetically did ask, "so my wheel isn't going to fall of or anything, right?" As I drove off with a noticeably louder creak than I was accustomed to I comforted myself with the thought "things just need to settle in" and I promptly accelerated onto the freeway to 135 mph to let things work there way out properly. At that speed the whomp, whomp, whomp sound at low speed that had accompanied the new creaking just became a reasuringly loud humming that reminded me of the cabin droning of an aged C-130 plane. Convinced that the wheels were not in fact going to be flung off now and the creaking did seem to be scared into submission I slowed down and continued on my way. Unfortunately the whomp, whomp, whomp and creaking also continued. So a few days later I returned to Peter and he reassued me that "it must be your tires". I said that of all the sounds that I was familiar with that a tire can make, creaking and clunking were not among them. So he reluctantly told his guys to check it out. I decided to stand close as the car was lifted which allowed me to catch the worried look on the mechanics face when he rocked the tire and it quite obviously clunked back and forth. Needless to say the wheel was close to falling off which my 135 mph experiment would have proven if I hadn't cut it short. I was then ushered away and informed that it was just a nut that happened to have come loose. Nuts do get loose I said kindly. This nut being the large 2" wide main nut that holds the whole thing together. After they dutifully spent some 10 mins. torquing that nut till the whole car rocked on the lift we went for a test drive. The familiar whomping, droning noise continued but the loud creaking and clunking did go away now that the wheel was strongly attached to the car with generous amounts of "locktight". This apparently being the original problem since German engineering had not learned the importance of south of the border locktight generosity and ingenuity. Back at the shop, after an extensive examination, for which I am grateful, it seemed that no amount of locktight would be able to remedy the whomping sound. At which point Peter knowledgeably informed me "it's probably your tires". He is probably right of course... The strangest thing.... I'm pretty sure I'll go back to them. Overall they make up with honesty and effort for the mechanical prowess they may or may not lack. Who knows, the same thing might have happened at the dealer but I would have gotten charged $2k for it.

Of course they gave me a long list of other recommended car maintenance things I would need to pay for - including new tires. They were trying to charge me $1300 for my set of tires- and that was even with a special "promotion": buy three and get one for $1 (wtf). Only after I said I would pass did they tell me they would price match. Uh huhh. Called these guys and they offered me the same tires for over half the dealership's quote and accommodated me for same day service (even when short staffed for the holidays). I was happy they had them in stock too. They were so friendly and accommodating. It's refreshing when an auto place doesn't try to exploit a woman's lack of car knowledge when she comes in. Honest and reliable. Enjoyed walking around downtown Carlsbad while I waited. I'd recommend these guys to anyone. Thank you!

Same waiting room that looks like all of its furniture came from a thrift store. But new name. I've dealt with them for years and have always been delighted. Today I had a crisis with a ruined front tire on my Volkswagen EV. The size that it needed was unusual. The manager explained to me that if I wanted a good price I was going to have to wait until Monday. I explained to him that I was going to lose a lot of money if I didn't have a working van this weekend and that I would be willing to pay more for quick service. He understood, and figured out where he could get same-day delivery on tires that would work. When you replace a front-wheel tire with a new variety, you have to change both of them even if only one side is ruined, so I needed two unusual-sized tires in a big hurry. I got them. My car was towed in on a big flatbed tow truck, but I drove out with a smile on my face, two new Michelin Crossclimate-2 tires on my front wheels, and a a larger Visa balance. I am thinking about going back on a non-emergency basis to get my rear tires replaced with Crossclimate-3's. They are pretty great.

My passenger window wouldn't roll up one day and Jose and his team not only diagnosed the problem quickly, they were able to get my window in the upright position securely until the part arrived a couple days later. It even stayed up through the car wash! They did an excellent job replacing my window regulator, and even took pride and care and left no marks anywhere on the window glass or door panel. The shop is very neat and they make sure each vehicle is cared for and covered, or stored inside, if needed. Jose is very honest and goes out of his way to make sure every customer knows how important they are to him and his business. He always tries to find the best price on parts and gives the customer the option to provide parts separately (although it voids any warranty on that repair if customer provides the parts). This is understandable, and I was grateful he at least offered this as an alternative to help me save some money. Jose and his team are friendly and make you feel welcome before you even arrive. Pricing is fair and by far more reasonable and less expensive than the dealership for any vehicle. The more expensive brand of car you drive, the more expensive it is to fix/repair. That's just the way it goes. The location is in the heart of the village and I enjoy being able to drop off my car and walk around while I wait. Definitely a better alternative than trying to look for parking! I don't let just anyone work on my vehicle, but I know I can trust Jose and his team to take good care of my car, and tell me exactly what's wrong with my car, and what it will take to fix it. They will even make special accommodations if you need to drop off/pick up outside of business hours. They offer many services, they are smog certified and also offer pre-purchase inspections in addition to being a full automotive service and repair facility. If you want honesty and people you can trust to work on your vehicle, this is the place to go! It is a small, family owned business, and they take care and pride in their work to do everything they can to take care of their customers. Although it may take longer than those drive-thru 30 minute oil changes, you get what you pay for and I would never choose time over quality when it comes to my vehicle. They even let me know my vehicle was leaking coolant when I took it in for my window issue. They located the problem and let me know. I had been smelling coolant for weeks but hadn't been able to locate the problem, but fortunately Jose did when he was doing a general check on my car. Thank you to Jose and his team for always being there and a place I know I can trust to fix my vehicle.

They did their work faster than they estimated which was pretty impressive as well less than an hour. Very fast. On top of that they were super awesome to vacuum the interior of my car. I didn't ask them to also. That was the highlight and going above and beyond service I greatly appreciate. My car always feels like it is running smooth after getting the oil change done with them. There is a nice waiting room. Sometimes they play movies on the tv. There is a comfy love seat couch. There are 4 stray chairs with a few small tables one with magazines, newspapers, and a book, another with complimentary coffee. My only complaint is there is one employee here I didn't catch his name he has circle glasses and he kept yelling for a guy possibly a coworker named Marcos? When we were passing by him in the door way he acknowledged us briefly and out of the blue yelled his name friend's name obnoxiously calling from inside the Walmart to outside to where they are doing work on the cars. That was very unpleasant and unprofessional to yell across the way especially right next to my ear as he is walking by exiting. He should have gone closer to him to call over. This never happened except for this time. Overall good place to get the job done. Most of the time the service goes really well without unprofessional obnoxious yelling across the room. Lowered my review by one star had to add this: Elisabeth is horrible she has bad customer service and a bad stuck up attitude. She said she called my number I received no phone call and waited an extra 40 minutes than expected because no one bothered to check the waiting room nor call. She said "I did call you but you didn't answer". There was no call. She didn't even explain what is done to my car like the normal people who check me out explain what is done with the oil change. This was very lazy and minimal reluctant service I received. Also whoever did the maintenance on my car did not lock my car like they normally do when they park it when it's done. I'm very annoyed with this visit.

Told the intake person that I would be waiting for my car. We would grab food at the mall and be here waiting. Took 3 hours to do the inspection. Then they have the nerve to say my car will be ready tomorrow at noon. Excuse me I've been waiting here for 3 hours. If you weren't going to be able to do an inspection and work the same day then why not tell me that 3 HOURS AGO! Of course I say this is ridiculous and I will just take my car now. They say it's early we can finish it tonight. Ok it's 5pm. They close at 7. They should be done by then at least I figure. My car was not ready until 9pm. When I have my child with me who has homework and school in the morning. For the last hour I'm asking what's going on and what's taking so long and I keep getting the run around that my car is "about to be taken for a test drive and done" my car did not move for the entire last hour. How do I know? I keep hearing it lock and unlock and the alarm going off because obviously someone back there has no idea what they are doing. I literally spent an entire work day there. And my car sounds worse than I brought it in. Wonderful. Plus the guy left the trash liners in my car that they supposedly put to keep your car clean and my car reeked of this dudes sweat and dirt. Lovely. Highly recommend avoiding this place and quite honestly after this experience on top of my last one I would recommend staying far away from any location of this chain. Also forgot to add they do not answer the phone. I called the day before to ask how long I'd be waiting for my car and they put me on hold multiple times then just hung up. And also as another reviewer stated they also tried to upsell me on spark plugs that I just had done over the summer somewhere else. And to corporate don't respond back with some generic email us so we "can look into this." Everyone said all they need to say. Unless you're about to refund me some money then keep your BS please Edit: I emailed and they said the manager would contact me. Never did. And my car is still making the same noises from the brakes! So basically don't know if they actually did any work or they just charged me $1800 for nothing. Also there is a big sign at the store that says they are BBB accredited. What a crock that is. Go to the BBB page. It literally says they are not and there's a big flag alert that they do not respond and told the BBB they will not work to fix problems with customers. Edit: manager contacted me to refund spark plug job. You know the one I said I already had done a few month back and clarified TWICE with them that they weren't gonna do? How many hours of my life could I have had back if they had just don't the work approved only and not the one I specifically said not to. If you've made it this far do yourself a favor and do not come here. I was waiting for my refund for 15 mins while the manager called another unhappy customer. Theeres many of us. And I won't come back.
