"Dreams are something you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine. To all of you out there,…read moreplease keep your dreams alive." - Ke Huy Quan, 2023 Oscar Winner for Best Supporting Actor When I was child in the 1970s, I loved watching television and the stories that the actors would convey over the screen. I loved how shows captured my attention with their laughter, escapism, or storyline. So, after 50 years of denying my dream and retiring from a 30+ year career, I started taking classes at the Actor's Studio of Orange County (ASoOC) in 2023 and studying the Seven Pillars Acting Technique. The Seven Pillars Acting Technique is a comprehensive acting technique that teaches you how to analyze scripts and how to "live truthfully under imaginary circumstances" because acting is so much more than just memorizing lines! Yet, the techniques are only words on paper. At ASoOC, I learned how to behave, speak, and feel as the character from all the wonderful instructors who brought the words and techniques to life! All working actors themselves, the instructors taught, encouraged, nurtured, and gently pushed/challenged/stretched us from the very first class of Living Truthfully to the very last graduating Showcase. All the while, they created a community where fellow students/actors encouraged, rather than competed with, each other. Lastly, students also learned the "business side" of acting, such as preparing their resumes, shooting their headshots, creating a biography, figuring out their casting types, etc. The business side (I needed to provide a biography) immediately came into play once I graduated! By nature, I am an introvert; yet, as I went through the classes at the ASoOC, I found myself emerging from myself and stepping up to the challenges of the given script (a shoutout to Victoria M. for nudging me!). Having recently graduated from the program, I am now making people laugh, allowing them to escape, or capturing their attention with the storyline. ASoOC is a wonderful community to learn the art of acting! Please keep your dreams alive!

I honestly had no idea this place was here (I guess I'm not cultured lol)…read more This place did not disappoint. It's in a really nice area of Costa Mesa close to a bunch of hotels, south coast plaza and some of the best restaurants. (So many options for you to pick from and have dinner before your show) The architecture of the building itself is really beautiful. I would say it's a little tucked in, because I am always in this area and have never seen it before. The ambiance inside is nice as well. It's extremely clean This place has a parking garage and valet. Unfortunately, we had no idea they had valet. So we just automatically parked in the parking garage. But they do have a little walk way that is extremely easy to get to the building from the garage The lines went extremely fast for getting into the building. There was no restrictions on handbag size. ( or at least they didn't say anything to me about it / could differ from show to show and who is performing) All I had to do was open my purse and walk through a metal detector. Everyone was so friendly Once we entered the building, there are tons of staff directing you where to go if you need help finding your section They do have stairs when you walk in, but they have elevators. I chose to walk up a few stairs and then take the elevator to get to our seats We had second floor box circle level seating. It was extremely easy to get to the seats and the lady who took us to our seats was extremely kind and helpful She also gave us the rules - No placing your handbag on the railing, no video or flash photography I can't stress enough, the importance of elevators and it being accessible. So 5 stars for that The bathrooms were very clean and had a great amount of bathroom stalls. So there was no line I only saw one very tiny stand where you could get refreshments. I did not get anything, so I don't know what they had to offer (such as alcohol or if they had any food) The write up online for the show we went to for Tchaikovsky's Fifth & Avi Avital Pacific Symphony -Experience Tchaikovsky's Triumphant Fifth & Mandolin Virtuoso Avi Avital! Commit to blocking off 5 hrs to volunteer for show since we need to report 1.5 hrs before showtime. 2. Alex's mistake in scheduling me for 3 shows and then those were taken away 2 weeks later. I wanted to see Riverdance in which Alex told me I was scheduled to work. 3. Manager Norm Majors 's lack of honoring his word. Norm said he wanted to make it up to me for Alex's mistake. However when I asked for the original schedule, Norm said he can't honor it. Instead he can make it up to me by showing me how to use the Vlogistics system. I know how to do it since I already volunteered for 3 shows. I also have a graduate degree from an Ivy League. I know how to use the software but Norm is not listening. He wants to show me the manual for volunteers even which tells what to say and courtesy respond techniques to patron's concerns. Norm doesn't follow his own words or instructions in the manual. 5. Spend extra money to buy my own uniform. We don't get paid anything to cover it. 6. No time to eat dinner unless before showtime or after the show ends late at night. 7. See email for poor resolution from Norm. 8. No compensation, no water or food. I had to ask the bar to help. Unless you enjoy standing and spending 4.5 + hours of time and see an undesired outcome, I wouldn't recommend volunteering. There's a lot of volunteer retirees

Jordan Lund guided me and he taught me new acting techniques that I've never though of. Because of the techniques and skills I got from Jordan I've now landed a lead role in an upcoming Netflix series to be aired next year. I highly recommend Jordan to any actor. Doesn't matter if you've been acting for years as I did or if you're new to the industry. You will learn new techniques and the fact that he puts you on camera so you can be analyzed is an amazing learning experience. I also do know that Jordan teaches stage acting too. The lobby was very clean and shiny, and the restrooms were large and clean. The theatre's interior was very beautiful and comfortable. The employees were all very friendly and professional, and they assisted anyone and everyone who needed help. Being a huge fan of the film, I rushed to get tickets thinking it was actual live stage performance, then come to find out it was just a screening. Oops! Don't rush, take your time when purchasing for a show. The screening itself was adapted from Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece. Nothing can replace the original cast of this iconic film; however, the stage version was pretty impressive with the handling of the changing of stage scenes. It was highly abbreviated though, in my opinion. Tickets were for General Admission so we chose our seats upon doors opening. Every seat (approximately 750 seats) in the house seems to have non-obstructive view. We went for the first row center on the balcony level. Love this view. If you need a snack, there is wine, beer, water, soft drinks, and packaged snacks like cookies, chips, and candies for sale. Parking is in the structure right next to the theatre. (US$10-15) Ushers and all staff were very polite and courteous. Enjoy!
