Art is a wonderful teacher! My daughter is 10 years old and taught herself ukulele during Covid. When things opened up, we decided to put her in ukulele lessons. My first call to the studio, I was connected with the owner, Andrew. He was super welcoming and wanted to learn more about her music interests and goals. Her class was tailored just for her. Art has made a world of difference for her. He has helped her with chords, strumming, playing ukulele and singing at the same time and so much more. He is fun and makes music fun. My daughter is super shy but there are showcase opportunities where she was able to performed in front of others and it has made her so much braver and more confident in herself. We've been here for almost a year and she had asked to extend her classes so that Art can teach her piano as well! You can tell that all the teachers here are so talented and passionate about music. Glad to be a part of such an great studio!

Piano teacher - Arthur Ortiz Drum teacher - Alex DeMeulle I can't rave enough about this school! The teachers here are a group of enthusiastic, knowledgeable, inspiring music professionals that give their students the confidence and motivation to play. I love that this school offers you a non traditional way of learning (jumping right into songs that you wanna play while also learning music theory). I play piano with Arthur and he is excellent. He breaks down the piece, explains notations, theory and is always answering my questions outside of class. I'm a beginner piano player and have grown so much since I started practicing with him. My son (8) plays drums with Alex and he is fantastic with kids. He knows my sons capabilities and when to push him, which he needs sometimes. But even when the song he is learning is challenging, my son WANTS to go to his weekly lesson and I consider that a victory. I highly recommend these teachers!

Here Mr. Art is teaching my daughter how to read music or maybe quizzing her :)

She is simply the best! I feel incredibly lucky to have met Patricia and begun my singing journey with her. I've been a student at Studio Shanks since 2018, when I was fresh out of college and looking for a voice teacher who could earnestly teach me how to sing. At the time, there were flashy online ads for folks that could "make you a superstar" and all of it felt so loud and nothing seemed to fit. At one point Patricia returned my call. Immediately I knew that she was the right teacher for me. It was obvious that she is not just naturally fun and easygoing, but also a true technician when it comes to the craft of singing. It's been a few years since we began working together. I've discovered that singing is something that can be learned at any age. It requires hard work, but it can be done. Luckily, Patricia is entirely dedicated to the growth and success of her students. Knowing this makes it much easier to bring my own effort during and between classes. I am honestly amazed at how, despite having worked with many respected luminaries in the field, Patricia remains humble and always with a sense of humor that puts me at ease. She is everything that comprises a professional artist and educator. What I love most is that she cuts through the noise and focuses on pure foundations. That means that she is able to work with vocalists ranging from the most contemporary pop styles to opera to musical theatre and beyond. All kinds of singing require the same basic knowledge of healthy and safe vocal techniques. At Studio Shanks, everything counts and everything matters. Thank you so much, Patricia!

Thank you very much for communicating. I would love to take singing lessons with you.read more

After some searching, I found Doc on Yelp, and let me tell you--it was the best decision I could've made for my guitar. At first, I just wanted a strap button installed. From the moment I walked into the shop, I knew I was in the right place. Doc's wife greeted me warmly, and the shop itself was incredible--guitars everywhere, an atmosphere buzzing with creativity. Walking in felt like stepping into a musician's dream. Then I met Doc. What an absolute legend! He didn't even charge me for adding the strap button. Instead, he spent about 30 minutes walking me through my guitar's specs, the materials it's made of, and a ton of other details I never knew. His passion and knowledge about guitars left me completely confident that he was the guy to do my full setup. The turnaround? Insanely fast--just one week. For comparison, I once took an older guitar to McCabe's in Santa Monica, and it took nearly three months. Never again. Doc doesn't just work on your guitar; he treats it like it's his own, ensuring it plays at its absolute best. I'm literally writing this right after picking up my Hummingbird, and I couldn't be happier. I'm officially a Doc client for life!
