I've been to this place when it first opened and wasn't impressed or satisfied with food. It's been over a year and because my sister wanted to go, decided to give it another shot. Should have kept walking, we ordered our ground beef tacos to go. I ordered a side of Spanish rice and salsa. When I got back to work and opened it, at first looked very good but after picking up to put salsa on saw the ground beef was old, hard and looked to have been cooked days ago. The rice looked good on top but was dried and crusty on the bottom. Totally inedible and I returned it. On walking out, met my sister walking in to return her meal as well. Fish and seafood are great, but if you don't like it or need a change of pace, check out V's. It's a small place with a divey feel, but their food is quality. They have a wine, beer and other cocktails in addition to their food. Mexican and Korean food do actually play nice with each other and Vs does a good job at helping you realize that. We started with the fushion tacos which were huge and had Korean flavors mixed with the classic nacho dish. For our main dish we split the rice bowl with chicken and beef quesadilla. Without a doubt the highlight of the night was the quesadilla which had a nice range of flavor, perfectly marinated beef and nice sauces to accompany them. The rice bowl was great as well but I would at the beef was better than the chicken. Overall, I would definitely revisit if I were in the area. read more

This by far is the best restaurant we have been to during our port stops. Mexican/Korean fusion works well! Beer and food were great! The server was very friendly and personable (apparently he was also the chef). The atmosphere was intimate and the music was chill. It was a cool vibe. Absolutely horrendous service. Went there for a couple drinks and appetizers. There were all of ten people in the restaurant at three tables. The two of us sat down and ordered 3 tacos, a pine-Arita and a root beer. 20 minutes to get or drinks and an hour went by with no food. All the other tables that came in after us got their food. Okay this place is amazing! First off the drinks were great. I highly recommend The Juneau Diplomat. This take on a Manhattan is just fantastic. I could drink this all night without regards to my dinner. We had the infused burrito and the fusion nachos. Holy smokes the nachos were huge! You could easily split this with your date. The infused burrito was just great. Get it with the kimchi rice. Trust me on this. I never set my fork down and was sad when I realized it was gone. Both items were with the Korean chicken. Lastly I just want to say that thank you to the staff. There was a large group who ordered head of us and we were given free chips and salsa while our food was cooked. We came during Folk Fest, so it was packed. They did make quite an effort to seat us quickly though even though we didn't have a reservation. Service was fast and friendly. The nachos were really fantastic, with unexpected fusion of flavors. Rice bowl was decent, but the nachos definitely stole the show. Wine list was surprisingly poor, which was unfortunate for a place that, according to our server, prided itself on their wine selections. Alright, I got super excited when I saw the gluten free options. So I went in and got a rice bowl with the suprisingly gluten free bulgaki with out the fusion salsa and sauce. V came out and asked if I would like some Avacado Aoli instead. Sure, sounds good. The rice bowl was nasty. Some of the rice was inedible it was so hard, either from setting In the rice cooker for too long or from setting uncovered too long. The bulgaki was dry and flavorless, not very much of it either. The only thing you could really taste was vinegar- and I couldn't tell if it was the slaw or the Aoli. So much for being excited. read more

So we got to the place on a Sunday night at 7:40. We sat down and waited ~10 mins for a menu for everyone. (The place was pretty empty with only 5-7 other people in the place. Our party was a size of 7) Everyone got drinks first and that was fine. The punch bowl along with the margarita was actually pretty good. $20 that served 7 people for 2-3 drinks each. Everyone was pretty cheerful and had an uplifting mood. But everything went down hill from there. 20 mins later, we managed to get in our orders for the appetizers and entrees. We got the house nacho for everyone as an appetizer. I personally got the tacos while others got the burritos and rice dishes. We were pretty hungry from our hike earlier that day so we asked specifically for the entrees to come out as soon as each were ready rather than all at once. After this, the most ridiculous part was that the first entree of food did not arrive until well after 9:15 (a good hour after we put in our orders). 3 out of 7 entrees came out during that time. I got 3 tacos; first one was actually stone cold while the third one was warm. Furthermore, every single meat was bland. The last ridiculous aspect was the amount cilantro in each of my taco. I hope they realize that cilantro is a garnish and not an ingredient. See my picture for the amount of cilantro in the taco as well as the cilantro I had to pick out and put into the plate. One thing our friend noticed was that the server carried a pitcher of water back and forth 3x but none of us had a glass for water. Then when we finally asked for water, the server came and dropped down a pitcher of water for us. Then he realized that we didn't have glasses. So he rushed back with 5 glasses full of water. Yup, 5 glasses for 7 people. By then, everyone was pretty disappointed at the service and the quality of food. In fact, one of our friends fell asleep at the table while waiting for the food. We managed to get every entree out by 9:40 and leave this place by 9:50. Our mood was pretty down by this point so rather going out we just went back to our hotel. To be fair, the server knocked down our bill by 33%. However, I cannot fathom why it would take so long to get 7 entrees out in a reasonable amount of time. I hypothesize that they are raising cows out back and slaughtering them while picking cilantro from their farm. read more

I stopped in for lunch with a friend. Our waitress suggested a shrub for a drink, and what a treat it was. I ordered x the seared Ahi. It was a moment of perfectly blended fish, sear, and sauce. The cabbage type salad (don't remember the name) also had a sauce that was phenomenal. I could easily eat that meal everyday for a month, it is that good. My friend had a fusion burrito. He was talking about it for 30 minutes after we left. He said something like, "that is the most crazy mixture of flavors I have ever had, and did it ever work. It was nothing short of amazing!" My wife and I had an incredible experience here! First off, Paul, our waiter was one of the best I've ever had. He was knowledgable, welcoming, and offered to get our food order in before a big 15 top. That showed me right there that he thought through the process and our experience. The salsa was delicious because it wasn't your average Mexican salsa. Due to the fusion of Asian and Mexican cuisine, you really get amazing flavored. I actually signed up for a yelp account just so I could put my review up for V's. We just moved to Juneau a few days ago and stumbled in here not knowing anything about the place. The walk downstairs makes you feel like you have discovered a cool, secret place. We were greeted and told to sit anywhere, and got our orders in quickly. We got the Al Pastor tacos, and the Fusion Nachos. The wait was a bit longer than usual (maybe 20-25 minutes), but holy crap was it worth every second of it! (Keep reading for why the food took a bit longer) These dishes came out with what I assume is their fusion salsa...which we immediately wanted to purchase a gallon of. (She said she may be selling it in the future, by the way) the food was fresh, hot, completely different (way better) than I expected and completely original. The nachos had a sweet, tangy, Asian sauce and cabbage that was just awesome combined with the traditional nacho toppings. The pork in the tacos was sweet, tender and was executed perfectly. I am a sucker for a good street style taco on a warm corn tortilla! We told the waitress at the end of the meal how much we enjoyed it and it was then that we found out that it was actually the owner, and she had been back in the kitchen herself and had cooked it all! She apologized for the wait, and was as sweet as could be. I would wait even longer for food that good!! I probably eat here far more than i should, but the food is so delicious and the staff so friendly, that it's like eating great food with friends every day. I'm slowly checking off pretty much every item on the menu. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I love the rice bowls because they are like the comfort food I wished I could make at home. The Fusion Nachos are a great starter with friends....lots of friends! I had a Tinga burrito the other day, and it changed burritos forever! Definitely try the shrubs and punch bowls. To start, the fusion nachos were pretty tasty. The only other thing I ordered was posole. Now maybe this was due to having ordered takeout, but the posole was much more like lukewarm tap water with a healthy sprinkling of raw cabbage. The three hominy in the bowl were broken to bits and I would really doubt that anymore than a tablespoon of chicken *dust* was included. Mexican Asian Fusion had me interested, plus a guide said he liked to eat here. It's down the street from The Salt and a little hard to find if you aren't looking for it. Maybe that's why only 2 tables were occupied or that it was a Wednesday night at the end of summer. I ordered the Korean Chicken Tacos with white rice and was assured by the waiter that if I didn't like it after 2 bites, I could exchange it for something else. Didn't need to as it was delicious and came soon after I ordered it. The cocktail I ordered was also very good, but unfortunately cannot remember it's name, only that it had merlot in it. This spot is special. I travel to Juneau for business quite often, and I won't eat anywhere else for dinner, it's that good. Service is excellent, food is excellent, and it is not as expensive as a lot of surrounding restaurants that aren't nearly as good. Outstanding!!!!! This gem of a restaurant would thrive in ANY foodie city especially San Francisco. As a professional dancer by trade, I felt a distinct sense of artistry from the atmosphere to the conversation to the food and drink! I was taken aback by the simple statement made by owner Vee. She knows her stuff and it's apparent that this restaurant is a product of a life's work. My. Friend and I had amazing cocktails of wine and spritzer served with delicacy (great wait staff!) We split basic "Fusion Nachos" which were delicious nachos with fancy spiced meat and cabbage (I think). We met Vee and it's clear that she puts in the effort hours and love! I wanted to like V's. We really tried to eat there. While in Juneau for 10 days, our intentions were based on Yelp reviews and what we had heard from local folk. Two times we tried and were disappointed. The first time was this past Sunday. We looked online, decided what we would order for the group of six, confirmed by the website the Sunday hours and called, only to hear a recorded message that they would be closed on Sundays in August. Disappointed, even surprised, that they had not updated that information on their website, we were willing to try again. So, we walked to V's last night (two days later) to eat onsite. After walking down to the cellar, we discovered that all tables were full. There was no waiting line, the host informed us that the wait would be 15-20 minutes. She suggested that we write down our phone number and take walk about town for a few minutes and she would call when the first table opened up. That was 18 hours ago. Still no call. This is my first review because I've never felt more prompted to tell the world about a restaurant than after eating a late lunch at V's Cellar Door. I was immediately intrigued by the Mexican/Asian Fusion tag and the high reviews - it sounded like something we simply HAD to try. Great Service: We walked in and V herself greeted us warmly, a nice start. It was around 3PM in the middle of January, so there was nobody else there and we ended up having a private dining experience! She walked us through everything on the menu and asked us questions in order to provide a good recommendation. Amazing Food: We started on an Avocado topped with raw Tuna, drizzled with a Kimchi Aoili, an secret asian fusion sauce, and cabbage slices. With the first bite, my partner and I became ravenous... it tasted absolutely magical. There were so many sweet, spicy, and salty flavors combining all at the same time for a rainbow of an experience. Also, my partner got the Strawberry-Orange Shrub (think flavored, sparkling water) - a bit over-priced on it's own, but it goes very, very well with the food. After our appetizer, I dove into a fusion burrito; you can do Bulgogi, spicy chicken, or tofu - I went with the "Korean Chicken". You can also elect to have a side of white rice or Kimchi Rice. I dove in on the Kimchi Rice and, while I'm not a fan of usual Kimchi, V's Kimchi was specially caramelized and spiced to lose a bit of it's "pickledness". THE BURRITO WAS AN ABSURD, OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD EXPERIENCE. Again, the flavor rainbow I described earlier struck, but it weighed gracefully on the saltier side - as you would expect from a burrito. The entire thing was served Enchilada style with drizzling of multiple cheeses and sauces. It's a meal and an experience I won't soon forget. We ended the night with freshly-torched Crême Bruleé... I ended up licking the bowl - seriously. I don't really know what I expected from food in Juneau, but it's all been absolutely amazing. Start your trip off right with V. As we sat ourselves the server came over and explained the menu and drink choices. we all ordered and when the good arrived, nacho's first, we were BLOWN AWAY. This little tucked away down under spot in Juneau is delish. I spent a total of 3 days in Juneau and this was by far my favorite spot. Asian fusion - so they've got Asian tacos and dishes. I got the tofu tacos with sesame seeds, soy sauce, cabbage, with a side of rice. Those that fear tofu, fear not! The texture is perfect - chewy, not too soft, with a nice flavor to mask the bland taste that tofu normally has. It was so tasty... the only thing I didn't like mildly was that it wasn't as warm as I thought it would be. It's a small place, likely not many others if you come for dinner.
