Amazing Food, Unacceptable Service…read more My husband and I dined at SALT on September 25, 2026, to celebrate my birthday. The food was absolutely amazing, as it usually is. Unfortunately, the way we were treated afterward was so appalling that it has completely changed how I feel about this establishment. We spent approximately $300 on what was supposed to be a lovely birthday dinner. Appetizers, Entrees, coffee, dessert. We have always enjoyed coming to SALT to celebrate special occasions, and I have consistently praised the restaurant's food and service. Throughout the cruise season, I even recommend SALT to my clients whenever they ask where they should eat. I have been a genuine advocate for this restaurant, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. Unfortunately, I accidentally left my credit card behind after dinner. That same evening, I called SALT approximately 5-6 times over a three-hour period while the restaurant was open and left two voicemails. Nobody answered or returned my calls. For clarity, I was already home (15 miles from SALT) when I realized my card was missing. We walked throughout the downtown Juneau area after our meal so I was not certain if I left it at the or it fell out of my wallet somehow while walking. The following day, I called another five times over a four-hour period while the restaurant was open. When a woman finally answered, I explained that I believed I had left my card at the restaurant and that I had been trying to reach someone since the previous evening. When I told her how many times I had called, she called me a liar. I explained that I had absolutely no reason to lie. My only reason for mentioning the repeated calls was that I was concerned their phone lines might be experiencing technical difficulties. I even offered to show her my call log so she could bring the issue to the appropriate management and potentially help resolve a phone problem affecting the restaurant. Rather than appreciate the information, she called me a liar again. Then she admitted that she had received my voicemail the previous night but had not bothered to call me back because she "just answers the phones" and had no access to my card. She confirmed that the server had reported my card was left behind and that it was being held. When I asked when would be the best time to pick it up, she said she didn't know and told me not to call her back because she would have the manager call me. She then said, "You can call 11 times but I'm only 1 person. And I'm not even at the restaurant while it's open. This is a separate line." Well, clearly you are only one person, ma'am! If you were two people, you would have had twice the capacity to answer the phone when I called and twice the capacity to resolve this situation with a BETTER attitude. Two hours after that conversation, a man called my phone. I answered, and he immediately screamed at me, "We have your card. Come and get it!" He didn't even identify himself or tell me what establishment he was calling from. He simply yelled at me as though I had done something wrong by trying to retrieve my own credit card. Let that sink in. A customer spends $300 on a birthday dinner, makes multiple reasonable attempts to contact a restaurant about a lost credit card, offers to provide evidence of those calls in case there is a phone issue, and is repeatedly called a liar before ultimately receiving a hostile phone call from someone who cannot even identify himself. The food was wonderful. But good food does not excuse treating customers this way. We have celebrated many important occasions at SALT, and I have enthusiastically recommended this restaurant to others. This experience fell so far below what I would expect from an establishment of SALT's caliber that I will think twice before spending another dollar there. I am especially disappointed by the conduct of the person answering the phone and the apparent lack of professionalism in the subsequent management response. Save your money and eat at McDonald's in the Valley. The food won't be as high quality, but I guarantee the service will surpass the way I was treated after what should have been a special birthday celebration. That say it all I believe. Shame on whoever handled these calls, and shame on the management responsible for allowing this to be the standard of customer service. SALT, you have lost a loyal customer and someone who once went out of their way to recommend your restaurant to others. Great food can bring customers through the door. Great service is what makes them want to come back. This experience gave me absolutely no reason to return.
