If there is one place I'd never miss, this is it. The food is ALWAYS consistent, the service ALWAYS top-notch, and the staff are mainstays and the secret Voodoo magic that brings it together. I stopped in per usual and again was not disappointed. As a senior military officer in the human resource arena and one who understands the cost of high staff turnover, specifically in the service industry, it is refreshing to see consistency. This consistency in staff translates to a fundamental truth in business and leadership--it's all about the people Herb sets the tone for consistency; his leadership and infectious enthusiasm permeated throughout the staff, hence the low turnover. We haven't left yet and I'm already missing Voodoo Gumbo!! They have a pretty good amount of gluten free options including the red beans and rice (which contains house-made andouille sausage), jambalaya, fried shrimp, and fried catfish. There is cross-contamination -- but I am able to have it. It's so rare to find gluten free fried foods, especially seafood!! The food was not only good, it was GREAT!! Everything was delicious! Shrimp was crispy and slightly sweet, some of the best I've had inland! Red beans and rice was so smokey and had a bit of sweetness to it, oh buddy it was great! On top of that, everyone was super nice. Guy who seated us was rlly friendly, girl who waited on us was SO helpful with answering my questions! We ended up with beignets that my husband said were the best he's had outside of NOLA. We got to meet the owner on our way out and he seems like someone who has a real passion for what he does. The decor was nice too - very on brand! It feels cozy in there, and everyone seemed to know each other - felt like a sweet little community spot. mmmm, mmmm! Can't believe we haven't been here before now! Friends brought us for dinner. Located in a little shopping center, there's good parking out front. We were seated quickly. Staff is great and helpful. I had a beer but the star of this dinner is definitely the food! I went with the Half & Half combo (since I had so much trouble deciding..) Shrimp Po Boy and the Étouffée. Po Boy was outstanding. Lots of shrimp, cooked perfectly with a green crunchy breading. I went with Remoulade and it was good compliment to the Shrimp and accoutrements. The bun was what you would hope for, crunchy exterior, nice soft interior. It was also very large, not sure if I could have handled a full size Po Boy! Étouffée was also great, full of good flavors and I had to bring most of this home. It was great the next day as the flavors really settled into the rice. I sampled some of the other dishes that friends had and found them all to be really well flavored. Not overly spicy but nicely seasoned to give a great experience. So I was too full to finish the Étouffée, but I managed to find room to sample the Bread Pudding. I'm not normally a bread pudding fan, but this has me rethinking that decision entirely. So so Good! First time trying this place on a Friday night to celebrate a friend's graduation and wow, it was packed. I went with the fried oysters and fried shrimp from the kids meal because the portions I saw coming out to other tables looked huge, and I wasn't wrong. The oysters were really good, it was lightly fried with great flavor. I asked for cocktail sauce for the shrimp and added some Slap Ya Mama seasoning to give it a little kick. The shrimp were tasty too, and honestly there was more food than I expected for a kids meal. It even came with fries. Our server recommended the banana bread pudding, so our friend ordered it. She said it was one of the best bread puddings she's ever had. The manager stopped by our table to check on us, which was a nice touch for a small restaurant, and after asking what we were celebrating, brought us a complimentary beignet. The service here was great! We were seated right away and when there was a slight delay for our food someone popped by the table to let us know. I enjoyed the food, but felt it lacked a little seasoning. With Cajun food I expect just a punch more flavor and a little spice. However, the bread they severed the po boys on is fantastic! My dad really enjoyed the seafood gumbo, but also said the jambalaya was just a little less spiced than he was expecting. The potato salad had a great texture and I enjoyed it! The water unfortunately had an odd taste to it, but I'm assuming that probably not something they can easily correct. Back to the service though, the glasses were never empty and always promptly refilled. I also liked that they had slap ya mama spicy and hot sauce (I believe it was Chrystal's) on every table. The artwork on the walls was bright and so much fun. I also believe the owner or manager would stop by each table to check on how things were going. Run, don't walk... you won't regret it! As a non-seafood/fish eater, I assumed the chicken (at a seafood/gumbo place) would be fine, nothing special. Boy was I wrong!!!! The hand-breaded chicken tenders are truly the best I think I've ever had - crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked! Fries were delicious as was the coleslaw. I always judge a Cajun place by their desserts - and this did not disappoint! Both the bread pudding and beignets were top notch delicious - no notes. Our service was top tier as well. Our server was fantastic, personable and on top of it. We had a lovely conversation with the owner as he came around to check on things - they were all very welcoming! Just the fact that you can get traditional Cajun and creole food in Bellevue....The suburbia of Nashville is incredible enough but for it to actually be really good is another thing! The seafood etoufee and jambalaya are favorites. Love the added touch of sundaes for children dining in being on the house! They are full fully stocked with a variety of AbitA beers, which I appreciate! The prices are great and the portions are large. It's clear why Voodoo Gumbo has the highest rated Cajun food in Nashville. This is as close as you can get to New Orleans anywhere in Music City, and it's about time I made it out to Bellevue for this experience. With nondescript lettering at the western end of an ordinary strip mall, it doesn't look like much from the outside. But enter this haven of Creole classics and be amazed. They even give small samples of their gumbo, something unheard of in most restaurants! After a sample, I started with the fried oysters. They're now among my favorite appetizers in Nashville, and that's saying something for such an extensive food scene! They're crispy, tender, and quite remarkable! I had the Catfish Atchafalaya as an entree, a dish that's incredibly hearty and flavorfully satisfying! The catfish stays perfectly crispy and it's probably my new favorite catfish in the city. That's surrounded by a gloriously rich étouffée with shrimp, and ample crawfish so fresh you'd think it was lobster! It's like Voodoo's answer to a lobster bisque! And this is an incredible way to sample the masterful cuisine at Voodoo Gumbo. But I'll need to return for the po' boys and the beignets! read more

Voodoo Gumbo delivered a very nice surprise. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center and was not at all what I would have expected. Service was quick and amazing and the food was equally as good. I ordered the gumbo (feel like it was required given the name) and wow what an amazing meal. It was hot and filling (as it should be) and was cooked to perfection. I closed the meal out with a couple of beignets which were a nice finish. Excellent, in every way! Food is so fresh and service is wonderful!! This is one of my daughter's favorite places to dine, and she insisted that I go with her to try it out. She said the alligator bites are delicious, and I have to agree. I've had alligator bites at other places that were tough, but these were so tender. They serve them with an Asian chili sauce that has a kick, but it's a good compliment to the appetizer. She also wanted to get "hot" fries because they are cooked with Slap Ya Mama seasoning, which she loves. I'm not one that can eat spicy foods, so I didn't eat many of them. But, she sure did! She also suggested that I try their potato salad. So, I ordered a side of it for us to share. It was so good that I persuaded her to let me eat most of it, since the fries were too hot for me. We didn't go for a full meal tonight, just appetizers and sides. But, this place made a fan out of me, like her. So, I will be coming back and ordering everything on the menu, unless it's too spicy. Oh, we also had the beignets for dessert. They were as good as the ones that I got in New Orleans, if not better. Speaking of New Orleans, the owners are from there. This was good food. It felt like there were real New Orleans natives in the kitchen making all the food. I think I'm just not the biggest fan of Cajun food. The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly and relatively speedy, and I know the person I was with, who loves Cajun food, loves this places and comes whenever he can. Had a draft beer, but it did have a different taste to it. Maybe the lines need to be cleaned. The alligator bites were very good and the dipping sauce was killer good. My seafood gumbo was definitely delicious and my really enjoyed her po boy. The employees were very friendly and courteous. The restaurant itself is very simple but very comfortable and very clean. Taste of home! They are on point!!! Real catfish, not Swai like many around Nashville serve (actually in violation of Title 53). Oysters, perfectly fried, not like shoe rubber. Shrimp, again on point. Gumbo? Smell and taste the Filé' Gumbo! Potato salad, fantastic and I don't eat it anywhere but here now. Having desert? The beignets? They are better than cafe du monde actually! Their beignet sundae? Fantastic!!! Bread pudding? Wow, it's fantastic too! Service? With a smile, very well mannered and pleasant servers. We love this place! Being a NOLA native, seafood and dishes from home are often imitated here, but don't come close to back home. For the past 20 years I've eaten at every "Cajun Cooking" place that has come and gone, in the end each has disappointed. NOT VOODOO GUMBO!!! They are on point every time. A Symphony Night Made Even Better by Voodoo Gumbo! We were in town for a Symphony concert and decided to try Voodoo Gumbo--and wow, the food was absolutely AMAZING! There were three of us, and we were seated right away, which was a great start. As we looked over the menu, we asked for recommendations, especially about the different gumbo options. One of the coolest things? They actually let you sample the gumbo before ordering! That thoughtful touch really impressed us--not just because it was offered, but because every single gumbo we tried was delicious. My partner and I shared a plate of catfish, fried to absolute perfection, with a side of crispy fries. I went with the sausage and chicken gumbo, and let me tell you--it was hot, flavorful, and so satisfying. Just as we were finishing up, the owner came out personally to ask how our meal was. We couldn't stop raving about it! He was so kind and welcoming, and we even got to chat with him about the history of the restaurant and the possibility of future locations. At his suggestion, we tried the bread pudding--and let me just say, this was not your average bread pudding. We all agreed that we've had it elsewhere and didn't care for it, but Voodoo Gumbo nailed it. We LOVED it! And the beignets? Fresh, airy, and the perfect sweet finish. This place is a gem. Never judge a book by its cover! We are visiting Nashville and when we pulled up, it looked like a tiny little takeout place from the outside. Then when we walked in, it's a full restaurant and even had cocktails and alcohol. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The staff is some of the friendliest people. We had two people come check on us after we received our food to make sure everything was okay and our server was just the kindest person ever. Now the food! The fried shrimp were great, the roast beef poboy was excellent (the bread was authentic and perfect), and the beignets were just as good, if not better than, Cafe du Monde. 10/10 recommend and I will be making the 1 hr drive to go back soon. read more

I have come here a few times and the food is good. They did change up the ordering of your food for the good. If you are eating here you now are seated and you have a server. Much better! Server was friendly and was efficient. I ordered the seafood gumbo to start off with, very good and the bread was amazing. Then I had the Crawfish étouffée, and it was too similar to the gumbo.
