You can choose your protein, sauce, & 4 toppings. Buckle up, Yelpers. I'm about to give the best review I've probably ever given on this platform. Just went to Riddim n' Spice today. I've been to restaurants in maybe over 20 countries on 4 continents. This has to be on my Mt. Rushmore of restaurants. The flavor of the food is absolutely amazing. One of the best mac n cheeses I've ever had. The spicy jerk sauce was amazing. The jerk chicken was amazing. The lamb shanks were amazing. All three rices were among the best I've ever had. I can go on and on. I'm from a Caribbean background myself, but I've always been a little bit of an outlier where I've never enjoyed Caribbean food that much. It never lacks in the seasoning department obviously, but most times I usually find that it lacks balance. I found Riddim n' Spice to be the complete opposite. Riddim n' Spice has the seasoning of Caribbean food with the culinary understanding of French food. For example, the lamb shanks were like braised short ribs with an accent. In my opinion they understand how to really COOK at Riddim n' Spice, not just how to season. If you read any of my other reviews you'll quickly realize just how much of an emphasis I put on value. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED MORE VALUE FROM A RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE THAN I HAVE FROM RIDDIM N' SPICE. If I had to rank the restaurants I've been to in my life by value received, this spot would be 1 through 10 and everyone else would start at 11. I got 2 large leg and thigh plates with rice and peas and sweet plantains, 2 large lamb shanks plates (2 lamb shanks per plate) with yellow rice and mac n cheese, and a large goat with Trini rice and cabbage. I have enough food for a week easily, and that's a conservative estimate. There is honestly no point in doing grocery anymore when a place like this exists. When the employee was loading my plate up with goat, I almost wanted to tell her to stop, but I didn't know if that was sacrilege at a Caribbean restaurant to tell her to stop. The amount of food she was packing into this tray was mind blowing. I had to take most of the food home. I just spent the last hour cleaning out my fridge in order to reclaim containers just to store this stuff in. I'm still dumbfounded at the amount of food I got from this spot and how good it is. I live in Franklin so I live a good hour away from Riddim n' Spice, but I guarantee you, over the next year this will be the spot that I most visit over any other restaurant. I dare someone to audit me on that claim. If Riddim n' Spice ever shuts down I will riot in a way that has the FBI raising its eyebrows. The guy who took our order(never seen before, but it's been a couple years), his energy was bland and uninviting. I've always ordered their bowl with all of the veggies, but in the past I've gotten the rice and peas as the base. This time, I got the trini rice as the base; it had way too much turmeric. I got the regular jerk sauce on my bowl and it was underwhelming, previously I would get the sweeter version which may be the bbq jerk sauce. Previously, I would get most of the veggie toppings to make my veggie bowl, but it's limited 4 toppings now. I eyed the jackfruit, but decided not to get it because it was the whole pieces. I'm experienced with jackfruit and you must shred it to maximize flavor; it's not something to just toss in sauce haha. I opted not to set myself up on this visit by adding it. They were out of the cucumber lime drink and the drinks come in bottles instead of cups now. The pikliz was pretty good... Overall, It was not a good experience. Definitely did not expect to find such quality Jamaican food in Nashville, but boy was I wrong. The chicken was very tender (I got dark meat), Plantains were sweet and not too greasy and Mac and cheese was tasty. My only complaint was that I wish the jerk was spicier, however if you ask they can add extra hot peppers to the jerk or you can also buy a side of pickli which was a perfect addition.
