This place has some good food. I was surprised at how flavorful the meat lover bowl, and Philly steak pita wrap were.

Had a layover here so I needed up going to Hattie B's!…read more What can I say? I love their wings! If you get their medium wings with fries and peach cobbler, you will have one of the best layover at BNA airport! They have plenty of seats inside so no worries there. The wings were jumbo and just the right spice! Peach cobbler could have more of the crust but it was good. Line goes fast so it's worth the wait.

Hattie B's Hot Chicken has some of the best chicken I've had in Tennessee. If you've been a Hattie…read moreB's you know that to be true. This review is about their macaroni and cheese I had the mac and cheese by itself as my wife wanted chicken and I only wanted a light meal ,nothing fried before I got on a 4 hr night flight. Normally mac and cheese is a go-to because it is warm and comforting. THIS WAS NOT IT..... This mac and cheese was not very good, not something I'm used to when visiting a Southern State. The cheese tasted fabricated and the macaroni was way mushier than macaroni noodles should be. I think they should keep trying, however because I did not eat the mac and cheese and I was too far away from the location inside the airport to return, I decided just to toss it and eat nothing. Hattie B's managers or cooks should really taste their mac and cheese before serving it to anyone I hope this is just a one-off and it's not as bad as the one I had. I should have listened to the cashier when she told me it wasn't that good to her. Either way good luck and if you like it you like it maybe it's just me I will try it again next time I visit Tennessee just not the one in the airport.

4.5 The new year is…read moreas good as time as ever to try a new (to you/me) restaurant in an unvisited (by me/you) part of the midstate. Old Hickory Blvd is to the Nashville area as Peachtree is to Atlanta: it's everywhere and nowhere at the same time and no one knows where you are if you say you're on it. Well, needing lunch on a Friday in the new year, I made my way onto Old Hickory to see where it took me. It led me to... Old Hickory and Granddaddy's Original Hot Chicken Shack. It had been on my radar for a while but I never had a reason to me in this part of the county. I decided to make time on this day. Besides the potential gastric distress I find myself avoiding hot chicken because of how colonized and commodified it's become. What was a community staple (and not a 'Nashville' food) has become something that's turned into a chain item, largely without the very people who made it a thing (creators and patrons). Incredibly frustrating. So, when I decide to eat it, I want to make sure I do so responsibly and with consideration. Hence, Granddaddy's. I parked in the ample lot and walked in to find a small dining room that smelled incredible. I was greeted with an authentic smile (you can see it in the eyes and hear it in the voice) and asked (first) how I was doing and (secondly) what I'd like. I answered ('well; thanks for asking' and 'shredded chicken sandwich & fries to go, please.'). In all my professional eating*, I don't think I'd ever had shredded hot chicken. I was going to learn that day. I sat down and watched TV as my food was prepared. After the conclusion on my show, my food was ready. I thanked the folks behind the counter, smiled, waved, and hit the bricks. I noticed that I made a muscle when carrying the bag. This was a good sign. It was also a long drive back to my house. I got home and realized why I had to exert effort to lift my food: it was huge. You definitely get your money's worth. On an over-sized bun, I had an extremely generous amount of shredded hot chicken (medium), cheese, ranch, and pickles. As you might imagine, the flavor combo was A+. What you might not have bet on, though, was the texture win of the sandwich. The soft bun, shredded chicken, creamy ranch, and crunchy pickles added up to a memorable chew with every bite. The fries weren't merely a side. They demanded your attention: a generous portion of seasoned fries that lost neither heat nor snap on the drive from Old Hickory to my home. No matter where you live in the midstate, if you profess to enjoy hot chicken, you owe it to your mouth to make it to Granddaddy's. It was one of the best lunches I'd had in a while. I still think about it. *It's true.

Pictures of artists from the past and some amazing stories to go with them. Gives you a rustic look. Our food came out very quickly and the plates looked good. We all enjoyed our food but I have to say the fried green tomatoes were fantastic. I had the brisket sandwich and it was delicious. I sampled my wife's chicken and waffles and it was also delicious. The other two diners with us said their food was very good We had a very interesting server who had been there quite a long time and he told us several interesting stories about the restaurant A very good experience if you are in town, especially if you are going to the Grand ol' Opry.

I presume it was clean, but cannot be certain 'cause it was too dark & dreary. (I usually avoid chains.) The host was all 'cheery' and such, but I would have none of it. When you ask, 'how are we?' My response will always be, either to turn around to look and RE-state that it's "dinner for one," or ignore him/them, or possible some other even more rude response (to such an ignor*** comment/question: I don't have a mouse in my pocket--do you, I am not an alien with a foreign entity living in my body, 'do I look pregnant?') Another server showed up and everything, service-wise, took a step forward. I am always clear and very particular on my food. I don't eat pork (clean food and religious reasons--both one and the same) and I don't eat Nightshades (food allergies). I clarified that the brisket was beef. I emphatically repeated that if it was NOT 'fatty' I did NOT want it. This wasn't casually declared . It was repeated, belabored and emphasized. I did NOT want it if it was NOT fatty. And we thoroughly examined the rest of the menu (side dishes) to ensure I could eat they (savory but NOT sweet and no pork). I settled on the Brussels sprouts and corn on the cob. The second server had promised to get my order out to me in five minutes. He pretty much executed--good on him. The brisket: over cooked and dry. I am disgusted that my highly specific request had been so blatantly ignored. The corn on the cob had been 'soaking' in something (water?) and it tasted like laundry water (no I've never drank dirty laundry water but we all know what it smells like and our taste buds respond to our olfactory senses. I haven't tried the Brussels sprouts I'm already so disgusted that I cannot handle more .
