I had over here and sat at the bar, and the bartender was incredibly kind and generous, letting me sample the two dishes I was deciding between. I tried Nanny's Seafood Gumbo, which had a very bold, distinct seafood-forward flavor that might be perfect for some, but for me it was a bit overpowering. The étouffée, on the other hand, was more balanced and lighter, with flavors that just hit in the best way...so it really comes down to personal preference. It was a cold December day, and I was craving something warm and spicy, and this absolutely delivered. I ordered the étouffée with shrimp (though they weren't blackened as described), and it was still deeply comforting and delicious. I paired it with a Harding House Jimmy Red Lager, and loved the thoughtful touch of little baskets of popcorn at the bar. Parking can be tricky in the area, but I easily found off-street paid parking near Turnip Truck!

The best 2 things were the PoBoy and the Boudin Balls Great fry on the shrimp. Boudin was crunchy & Full of spice! I recently just had the crawfish boy, what a surprise. I just couldn't get a pic. We will be back to get more.

I've never seen or heard anything about it, but against all odds got lost after getting my car serviced and found my way here. You walk in and immediately see windows and windows of fresh seafood and tanks, and stainless steel sinks lining the perimeter of the restaurant complete with paper towels. Growing up on the coast, I didn't think I'd find something like this in Nashville but was so pleasantly surprised. The prices are more than fair, and everything somehow tastes so fresh, as if it was fresh caught. There's a Louisiana vibe to the place, complete with an inspired mural. The crab legs were delicious but I want to come back and try the oysters! This is definitely the best place to get your true Cajun fix in Nashville.

Ratings Husband - 4 star - roast beef…read moreSon - 4 - alligator Me - 3 - burger Sides - fried green tomatoes & red beans & rice. I got outvoted and they got a 4. Husband got the roast beef. He enjoyed it but thought it was too much bread. He prefers when they pull some of the bread out. It had debris and that's probably why he gave them a 4. We shared a side of red beans & rice. He thought the flavors were nice. I did not. It was like playing a game of find the beans. It was overly spicy and resembled a sausage soup. I've never had soupy red beans & rice (that barely had any beans) before so I wasn't a fan. Son got the alligator and fried green tomatoes. He really liked the sandwich. It looked like it had a nice amount of gator in it. The fried green tomatoes were overly spiced (come on not everything in Cajun food is a heat bomb - I'm from New Orleans so I know my Cajun food). Having said that - the tomatoes were done right. Not greasy and the crisp was good. Me - burger and this was where things went sideways and they lost a star. I have food allergies. I very carefully pick places where I can eat and make sure to stress what I cannot have. It's nothing crazy. Seafood, dairy, eggs.... so I chose the burger with no cheese. I don't like pickles or onions so asked those be removed as well. It comes out, no cheese. Yay! But it had so many pickles in it! I spent a good amount of time deconstructing it. Then there was the meat to bread ratio. 1/3 of the sandwich was just bread. I wasn't a fan of how they placed the burger on it. I thought it was a good idea to make a burger po'boy but the burger should have been placed differently or something. So between the "find the beans" soup and the mostly bread burger? I had to give them 3 stars. Ambiance - typical mall restaurant. Service - solid 4 star.

This place was a wonderful little experience. We were greeted with the sign outside, "Enter as Strangers and Leave as Friends," which is one of my life philosophies. We got there right at opening, so we got seated first along with one of their years-long regulars. A friendly local lady who provided us with pleasant conversation until the next patrons arrived, who were seated right next to us at the same table, family style. Then the next people, then the next. Sitting, talking, passing the food around the table. It was a nice experience. And the ambiance was nice, too. Plain, wooden chairs, white tile flooring, vintage holiday decor, it was like being in a grandma's house. Very comforting. The food came out one or two dishes at a time. Everything was good enough, but it also was apparent that it was mass produced in a catering style. The basics like the bacon and ham were very good, but the fried chicken, I wouldn't take a big piece, save your stomach room for other things. Whatever other things you grab, make sure you grab a biscuit and get ahold of their homemade peach preserves. That stuff was 10/10 excellent. It's so good, they jar it and sell it at the front desk. I totally recommend. Overall, breakfast is one of the most important meal of the day, so if you find yourself in Nashville, I would implore you to come and check out this city staple of over 30 years now.
