I've heard about Voodoo Doughnut when they first got popular in Las Vegas. While visiting my mom, she surprised me with a visit to Voodoo. The shop was decorated in such a fun way, especially the bathrooms! I was obsessed with the wallpaper inside. The cashier was nice but they were definitely busy. We bought a few doughnuts to go and while all were tasty, they're very sweet! I couldn't finish one the entire day. We had the poptart and the cereal milk donut. We wanted something sweet after lunch and decided to stop by Voodoo Doughnuts. It wasn't my 1st time having Voodoo Doughnuts, I used to live in WA and everytime we went to Portland we would pick up Voodoo Doughnuts. That's where I fell in love with them. To this Texas girl, they were a close second to Shipley's. Upon entering this Voodoo Doughnuts, I noticed that it didn't seem very clean. The windows were dirty, especially the windows that are near the side where you can look and see the donuts being made. They were actually filthy. The restroom was also very dirty. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days. It was gross! We ordered a total of 4 donuts. I got two and my hustand got two. He doesn't really ever complain about food, but he did say that this tasted kind of stale. I had to agree, mine did too. It tasted like it was a day old. I wondered if it was because we went in the afternoon. Maybe that's why they were stale. But why serve stale donuts? If you're going to do that, they should come with a discount. We decided to go to the drive thru, we ordered individual donuts not a assorted box although we did want to but we weren't sure if we would finish them. Ordered about 4 donuts. Lady at the window was very nice, handed us out donuts and we were on our way. Tried them as soon as we got home and we were shocked they were so big!!! We were not expecting them to be that big so we tried each one we had super good! The captain crunch was the favorite only thing was my husband said the cereal was a little stale, not as crunch or fresh as we would have liked. I got the Oreos one super good. Very disappointed it's not the same voodoo Doughnuts of the past. I drove an hour out of the way to pick up donuts for a work meeting. Which I've done many times in the past. Today I learn they cancelled the Ring of Fire donuts. They told me although they had enough bacon maples they couldn't sell them to me cause they needed some for the customers for the rest of the night? So it's apparently not gotta come first serve? They advised if I wanted to purchase a dozen donuts I'd have to call at-least two hours ahead of time although they stopped making donuts this morning. We live very near to this location and pass here often. Last night we finally decided to stop to pacify my husband's ravenous sweet tooth (yes imma blame it on him). It's brightly pink building is hard to miss and other than being in an incredibly heavy trafficked area that is a pain sometimes, it's easy to get to considering. We were greeted right away, but not rushed at all and allowed to just linger and take our time getting acquainted. We watched the cool revolving donut cabinets and asked a few questions about what was in each variety and all questions were handled quickly and friendly. We made our selections, Dirt, Old Dirty Bastard, Portland Cream (mine), Strawberry Go-Tart, Voodoo Doll, and Oh Captain My Captain...I only tried my Portland Cream which is a take on a Bavarian Cream or Boston Crème style donut and it was very good, if just needing a bit more consistent cream inside (a good portion of my donut was creamless ) but it was still delicious.
