I would normally give Voodoo a 5/5 because their doughnuts are bomb. I live a good four hours away and drove the distance so that I could share them with my wife who hasn't had them before. So, I took my wife in for the 1st time and ordered a voodoo dozen hoping to receive the usual mix of fun doughnuts and a few regular ones (as I had gotten in the past). Our cashier/server (Jat/Jet/Jeff or whatever his name was) was extremely rude, ignored us for at least a minute while he got more change from his boss (whom had a large beard with no beard guard on). After asking us what we wanted and being told three times that we wanted a voodoo dozen, he sighed, rolled his eyes and then sluggishly proceeded to grab our dozen. We received a total of 3 special doughnuts and the other 3/4 being run of the mill doughnuts. Great doughnuts time and time again, and usually great employees, but today was not a great experience. read more

I had no idea what this place was before coming so my expectations where neutral. Based on the line, I expected greatness, but everyone in my party was disappointed. I was excited to get my coconut chocolate cake doughnut, but sadly it wasn't even in our box that we opened once we got to the park to enjoy. I didn't bother calling- they are busy enough and the hassle of going back wasn't worth it based on the soggy apple fritter that I tasted. The crueler was dry and unsatisfying. The line, I wouldn't even call it a line, it's more like an Iditarod. It's long and slow because they have one person working at the counter who chats while she loads doughnuts into the box ONE painful doughnut at a time. I think she served 3 people in 20 minutes. You can't possibly read the menu until you're at the counter so there's absolutely no opportunity for decision making while you stand in line watering and grooming your huskies. And those 5 star reviews about the line being fun, an opportunity to bond with strangers....I live in Capitol Hill, it's Colfax, it's filthy, and it was like being in line at a needle exchange. The buttermilk bar will change your life I am telling you no bs. I can imagine it gets passed over by some since it doesn't have all kinds of cereal or glittery appliqué. Heard this place was a must try in Denver and its worth a try. Crazy flavor options in a turnstyle case so you can take a look before you order. Both kids ordered a Dirt donut which has thick vanilla frosting with oreo crumbles on top. They both enjoyed it at first, but couldn't finish because it was overly sweet. I ordered the blueberry and it was nothing special. Simple, glazed blueberry donut and tasted just like others I have had, even from Dunkin. I also tried the Portland Cream and the chocolate frosting was thick and decadent, the cream was flavorful but not exceptional; overall it was a bit heavy. My husband had the strawberry frosted and said it was outstanding. Extremely sticky and loaded with frosting with an overly sweet flavor. Overall, the size of donuts may make you overlook the pricetag (some are $5 each!), be ready for a sugar overload, to the point of almost too much to enjoy. Check it off the list, but I wont be running back. read more

I went on Sunday, March 9th at 3:30 a.m. and it was out the door again. My friend and I didn't leave until 4:45 a.m. We waited in line for over an hour to get doughnuts, I think that was ridiculous. It was nice to be able to to get to know the drunks and insomniacs of Downtown Denver, but I really wanted to get my product and leave. My friend and I decided to tough it out. The staff was much more courteous today. I spoke with a short, young woman with mid to short length black hair, I didn't catch her name, but she was very kind and explained how Voodoo worked. She was much more pleasant than the employee I dealt with last time. What I learned is my other Voodoo review is kind of inaccurate. They do offer a doughnut package for plane doughnuts and glamour doughnuts. I think they called the one for glamour doughnuts a Voodoo Dozen. It included 13 of any of the Voodoo doughnuts, excluding the Maple Bacon Bar, Voodoo Doll Doughnut and the O.D.B doughnut. Essentially the name-brand doughnuts that voodoo is known for are the ones you have to order separately. I never have tried an O.D.B but everyone in line that knows Voodoo, likes it. The voodoo dozen was $14 something, and in my opinion still not worth the price, or wait time. I don't know all the official names of the doughnuts I tried, but I do know some, so I will give a brief description of which ones I tried; there was the blunt (cinnamon cake doughnut with red sprinkles in the shape of a really large joint), Cap'n Crunch doughnut (A raised doughnut with white frosting and Cap'n Crunch), Coco Puff Doughnut (Cake chocolate doughnut with chocolate frosting and coco puffs). Grape Ape doughnut (raised doughnut with grape frosting.....Did not like, too sweet), Butter finger doughnut (Cake doughnut with frosting and butterfingers crumbled on it....too sweet), A couple of raised glaze with chocolate and some cake with nuts and coconut, Oreo cookie doughnut (raised doughnut with frosting and Oreo cookie crumbles, again too sweet), and finally the nasty one of all cake doughnut with Mango frosting and mango in the middle........It was gross. It tasted like canned artificial mango. Finally I had their coffee, it was called NOVO coffee. Novo coffee is bitter and not very tasty; the only plus is that its local. I can't say Voodoo got any better, in fact I lowered a star because the food was worse. The menu feels like it was made by an 8 year old; lots of sugar and bizarre concoction. As I said before it is creative but that's it. I still think you need to try it yourself, because it is unique. The most important thing to remember about Voodoo doughnut is you're waiting in line for a hip ambiance, and a goofy doughnut combo, not much else. read more

Friendly service, unique items, not super expensive for a typical donut, and the donuts are delicious!! Only complaints are that it is almost impossible to find parking nearby, and often the line is out the door(though they seem to hustle and get everyone through the line quickly). Looking for unique+sweet..... This is the stop to make in Denver. Being from NC, the home of Krispy Kreme, my expectations are high. No hot sign needed here. The pink box is just the cherry on top. A 90's kid dream doughnut topped with Captain Crunch, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies or Fruity Pebbles, just to name a few. And for the men and women that loveeee bacon, there is a maple glaze with bacon on top waiting just for you. Your eyes will light up as soon as you walk through the door. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because the wait is always so long. I love the donuts they're so creative and always fresh and the ambiance of the shop is so fun and funky I love all the wall art. Sometimes the cashiers make me feel dumb because I don't know what the different kind of donuts are named and I always take a little while to choose but they get a lot of people taking forever and working on colfax is never easy so I understand.
