This is by far the worst location you can possibly go to. Every associate looks like they hate their life and are super unhelpful. The lines are always atrocious, no self check out, only two lanes open. Waited in a long line only to get attitude from the cashier, Vincent. All because I wanted a separate transaction from my parents. He said why?...there's a line and it's a lot faster. I said ummm it's just like I'm the next one in line... And he proceeded to act like it was a huuuuge inconvenience. So we ended up putting everything together to appease him. I AM NEVER RETURNING TO THIS STORE. Pickup order at 11am on Saturday 2/7. I hunt down an employee stocking shelves to point me in the right direction. She yells and says by the flights. No idea what that means. I ask her what she means and she storms off. I follow. She grabs the phone to make a call. She flags down a coworker to complain that the phone doesnt work. He makes the call. A nice old man comes out with 2 of the 6 items. He grabs a shopping cart to retrieve the rest. He comes out with 3 more. I ask where the last item is. He says that's it. I show him the order. He continues to insist it's the whole order without looking. I make him read it. He finally admits it's their mistake and they'll reimburse me. I give up and start pushing the cart to my car. It locks. An employee comes up and says that's what you get for not following the rules. Incredible. read more

I just stepped out of the store and am fuming at how the cashier (black moped 80s style hair older lady) just yelled at an elderly woman who let me in front of her in line. The cashier moved some of her stuff to the front of the conveyor belt, and when the elderly lady said "oh that's mine" the cashier full on yelled at her and said "I KNOW!" The customer apologized and said she didn't deserve to be yelled at, and the cashier snapped back at her. The cashier then proceeded to take her full grocery bag, grabbed it from the bottom and dumped it out, where her bread got squashed. The customer kept apologizing though she had no reason to. This cashier is really mean! I wish I got her name as I didn't take my receipt as I was pretty shooken up. Disgusting customer service, and now I know why I avoid this store. :( read more

Today 4/29 at 7pm,my husband and son went to buy some items including gummi savers skittles beer and whiskey. For some reason Patricia the cashier thought to ask my husband if he was going be giving my under age son alcohol. He is only 14. Obviously the candy was for my son and the beer/ alcohol was for me and my husband. I am disgusted with her, and the store. How dare she ask that question? It was not funny. I always order delivery or pick up from this Vons on Verdugo Rd. Every time that I request an item, this Vons is always out of stock. Today I placed a delivery order and the driver sent it to the wrong address. Luckily I recognized the house from the photo that was taken, however, when I called Vons and explained my situation, the store manager said, "That's not my problem ". This store has changed drastically in the past year. I don't know if management is different or if the former employees were just better and nicer. I suspect it is both. They never have enough checkers and a few of the checkers are just plain rude. It's a smaller store so often there is limited selection and sadly there is seemingly not enough room for self check out. In the past year, I have been mostly driving just a bit further because of the above issues. The other day I was near and needed a few things and decided to stop in. Wrong decision. However, every now and then there's a product that I want from Vons and so I will pop in and out as I did this morning. But what just happened makes me never want to go there again. Cashier on Register 4, you! The one that commented on the fact that I am double-masking per CDC recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by saying "You double masking? I hear from doctors that people are exaggerating, that COVID's not that bad.".....I just don't know what to say but that what you said should be criminal. You are fake news personified. And to think that by double-masking I am protecting you AND your front-line colleagues who are suffering a much higher-than-average death rate. Why would you make these negative comments to me? I told you that I have family that got COVID and I know people that have died from COVID. How dare you. If I were a member of the grocery union, I would want you expelled for your toxic attitude and spreading lies. And, management? Get a grip on your staff. I USED to be a Von's customer once a week for at least 20 years. If the Albertson's corporation (who own VONS) want to know why their grocery business is declining their Montrose Store #2288 should be a case study on why customers such as myself NOW prefer Amazon Fresh delivery or ANYWHERE else but this store. Like other reviewers experienced here, the workers at the Deli counter are apathetic and rude. They roll their eyes when you walk up to the counter and request something. But the crowning experience was checkout worker Karen Hopkins. A true Karen in every sense of the word. Grouchy, dumpy, rude, miserable person who is likely only there because of her union. I don't expect over the top TGI Friday's fake freindliness. I just want a simple cordial interaction and a reply after I say thank you. Although I was polite and pleasant, it does nothing. All the workers here project and exude misery making for an unpleasant shopping experience. They should have a Grim Reaper greeting you when you enter the store. read more

So twice now I have had a terrible experience from the deli and morning staff. When being greeted as an African-American customer they address me Saying "what!" and "what do you want!?" I told them on several occasions that is not how you speak to a customer and I will not be spoken to that way they need to be professional. They continued the behavior until I escalated and spoke with manager Herbert who did an amazing job correcting their behavior. However! Today I was cursed at by an employee named John that was unpacking boxes who attempted to be very unprofessional with me, understanding that I had been already disrespected multiple times and had a conversation with the manager. I came to ask a question at the deli about a product I hadn't seen recently, he pointed at me and lifted his head and just stared at me. I asked him where the professionalism was as I am a customer and that's not how I will be addressed. He then decided to tell me I'm that guy that just causes problems and he didn't need to deal with my "fucking bullshit" As he kept posturing and aggressively pointing at me. So basically John knew about the situation that happened previously but decided to take his turn at it. John is what you call an UNINSURABLE RISK. because he knew about the situation and attempted to escalate and disrespect me in the same manner. I believe all customers should be treated equally however the belief and the document signed during employment are two different things. Legally the store has shown that they do not respect African-American customers and it is a huge problem especially the time we live in today. I would like to add the checks stand staff is amazing! Always positive smiling and very helpful. The deli has very poor attitude towards African American customers besides one lady Herbert and I spoke about. Whether I am an employee of Vons or a customer, Federal law still applies. I will be speaking with the regional manager after today's incident. Had a terrible experience today at Vons. My partner and I were doing Instacart and upon asking one of the associates, Darlene, where might a particular item be, she was extremely rude and directed us to the aisle where the item might be. When my partner was speaking with her she would not even make eye contact with him. She asked us if we were doing Instacart, to which we replied yes, and she proceeded to inform us that she doesn't get paid to help Instacart people. I had to inform her that we also, are shoppers of the store, as well as shopping on behalf of customers as well. My partner and I, felt discriminated against. If someone 2 weeks ago had told me that i would be almost desperate to buy toilet paper, paper towels and bottled water, i would have told him/her that he/she had lost their mind. Well that was 2 weeks ago and today is now. All stores in this general area that i shop are pretty much semi-naked . They do have some categories BUT the above: this is variable from store to store. The canned veg. beans, tuna areas are also almost wiped out. Yesterday, the Vons in Glendale looked like locusts had struck. i mean they had almost nothing to buy but some produce and candies, votive candles and certainly nothing of the Big 3 mentioned above. It seems that the vids we so cal people saw on TV about the mad, frenzied buying habits all over the world during a crisis were true and guess what? This is us...now. Trader Joe's, no surprise seems to have the ordering thing on a higher level than the so called traditional grocery stores as they are pretty much stocked on all of their goods and just recently on the Big 3 also. In any event this small Vons down the hill from La Canada had all of the Big 3 and quite a bit of it so maybe we are getting back to normal. maybe? Hopefully? Please? Just by chance i was driving past this store and made an illegal right from the center lane and lo and behold i felt such relief, glee,love even when i saw that there was a selection of tp, p towels and water that i actually felt faint, weak-kneed, scared. The woman at the check-out counter told me that she wouldn't touch the bag i brought in but could touch the one i was buying. In most situations i would have asked at least why and at most bit her head off. But i was afraid if i did she wouldn't ring up my coveted purchases. She seemed freaked and i ended up feeling bad for her. Shw was wearing a mask, why not gloves? It probably is time for her to take some time off because i'm thinking this c.v. thing is going to go on for months. Sad. This is what grocery shopping has come to? In fact this is what social interaction has come to: we're scared of each other and of course in getting infected. Yes it is all pretty silly particularly when the CEO's of all these big market chains get on TV and say pompously, "NO we have no food or paper shortages!" Oh yeah, so why are your shelves practically empty all day? Why, if you want to find a roll of paper towels entails your arriving at the door at 6 am so as to pick over the measly amount of stock on the shelves? Why, when product comes in, it is in 3 case increments for an entire neighborhood of 1000's? Fess up, tell us the truth. We won't like it but we need some truth telling about now. So this is my first and last time here, but the bagger was an entitled narcissist. I went into line 2 because the first one had a box under the register # that said 15 items or less. The 2nd line did not. I did not notice until after that there was a sign up above the ceiling that said Express-15 items or less. The employee checking out the items let us know for next time, which I felt remorseful about but i politely thanked her for. But the bagger? He had absolutely no shame. Like people can't make honest mistakes because he will gladly share all his feelings like the narcissistic prick he is. He began to talk like he was in the break room, saying out loud that he hates when people bring all these items into a line that's 15 or less when the signs say express. He said "can't people read?" And went on and on, didnt even care if anyone heard. I stared at him in disbelief, than he just walked away from his job midway and we had to bag our own stuff after. What kind of employees is this place hiring? Never again will I come here and and give someone else a chance to make me feel so unwelcomed, disrespected, and humiliated. the Ralphs on Foothill in La Canada Flintridge have the kindest employees I've ever met, they're even nice to my non-verbal autistic friends. This place is always stocked with what I need whenever I go. The staff there are always willing to guide me through things that I need help with whether it be with groceries, or carrying grocery bags to my car. They always ask me how my day is going and engage in conversation with me when checking out. I come here knowing that I will be treated like a loyal customer instead of a burden. Every product I buy from here is always fresh and the prices aren't very high as well. The aisles are always organized and clean along with the floors of the aisles as well. read more

The selection here is very little compared to other grocery stores, but to be fair, it's much smaller. I "love" waiting in a long line just to get two items and every older person has to whip out their checkbooks to write a check or whip out 50 coupons. I have been shopping here at least twice a week for the past few years. One friendly cashier told me about the Vons APP and it's saves me between $100-$200 a month on groceries. I find that most employees are friendly and helpful. The gentleman at the deli made great suggestions on his favorite cuts of Turkey and cheese and those are now my go-to cuts for my kids school sandwiches. As a regular customer, I find this place a great part of my community. If you haven't had the deli's roasted Mango Habanero chicken, it's amazing for dinner with their traditional potato salad. read more

While we were browsing our options,we noticed the most beautiful bouquet that someone stopped by to pick up & I could instantly tell she was adored in that neighborhood! Anyway , we picked up the sweetest bouquet & she told my boyfriend to pick a succulent complimentary gift for me too haha. ANNA was so sweet & has such kind heart. Im so touched! I usually don't leave bad reviews, but today was one of the worst costumer service experiences I've ever had. I always go to this Vons whenever I go grocery shopping, but after today my experience there is tainted. We mistakenly walked up to a register with an older woman with glasses helping a couple of guys at the register. We put our two items down, and she glared at us and asked us " Why are you here?" in such rude tone of voice. We apologized and were confused as we didn't know we weren't supposed to be in that line as she was closing her register after those people. But I wish she had just told us that instead of completely embarrassing us in front of everyone. She then continued on and said "yeah" in a sarcastic tone, rolled her eyes and rushed to clock out (July 27 at 5PM) . We both felt so embarrassed and shocked that we couldn't speak. I couldn't get her name, but I'd love to talk to the manager about this. As a person who works in costumer service this left just a nasty and distasteful experience. read more

Although they remodeled not too long ago, this particular stored seems to carry less items than other markets. I end up having to go to another store or forgo what I wanted.
