Convenient and Solid Grocery Store - But Meat & Sushi Need Work (4 stars) Vons at Sycamore Creek is my go-to spot because it's close to home and usually comes in clutch. I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the weak meat selection and inconsistent sushi. Let's start with the good: * The produce section is excellent--always fresh and well-stocked. * The deli has some great options, especially the rotisserie chicken. * The staff is friendly and checkout is usually fast. * There's both an inside and outside Starbucks, which is a nice bonus. * They also tend to have decent flowers if you're grabbing something last-minute. Now the not-so-great: * The sushi is hit or miss. I went on a day when the sushi chef wasn't there and the pre-made stuff looked tired and unappealing. * The meat section really needs attention. There's rarely a good selection of cuts. No marinated tri-tip, no short ribs, and no pre-made burgers that would be great for weekend barbecues--which are pretty common in this outdoor-friendly neighborhood. Bottom line: If you live nearby, this Vons is super convenient and reliable for most things. But if you're looking to grill or want high-quality sushi, you might need to go elsewhere--unless they improve those sections (hint hint, management). BEWARE OF PURCHASING GIFT CARDS AT THIS VONS LOCATION I stopped at Vons on my way home from work on September 5th around 6:50 PM and purchased a $45 Apple Gift Card for my niece. When she opened the card, we discovered that the numbers on the back had already been scratched off. This appears to be a gift card tampering/fraud issue. Someone had apparently accessed the card before it was purchased and was waiting for it to be activated at the register so the funds could potentially be used. I called the store about an hour after leaving. I was told that Vons uses a third-party company for Apple Gift Cards, so there was nothing the store could do, and I was given a phone number to call. That response is extremely frustrating. The gift card was purchased inside a Vons store, at a Vons register, and Vons makes money from these transactions. If customers are purchasing gift cards from your store, there should be safeguards in place to protect them from tampered cards. I understand gift card fraud happens every day, but that doesn't make it acceptable. Are there not enough cameras or security measures to identify people tampering with gift cards inside the store? If these cards are being compromised while sitting on your shelves, customers shouldn't be the ones left dealing with the consequences. I shop at this Vons regularly for groceries, gas, and other items after work. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. If you purchase gift cards at this location, inspect them very carefully before paying. Make sure the security strip and numbers have not been scratched, altered, or tampered with. Don't assume that because the card is hanging inside a Vons that it is safe. Vons needs to do better protecting its customers. read more

This review is NOT about Vons. I actually love this Vons and have been coming here for almost 3 years. The employees have always been great, friendly, and helpful. This review is specifically about Keylan, the Vons employee who has recently been working inside the Starbucks at this location. Unfortunately, every interaction I've had with her has been frustrating. When I ask a simple question, she acts like she doesn't understand what I'm asking and makes the whole interaction unnecessarily difficult. Her attitude comes across as dismissive and unhelpful, which is completely different from the excellent service I normally receive from everyone else at this Vons. I really hope management addresses it because she is giving customers the wrong impression of an otherwise great store. At this point, I would rather go to the Starbucks down the street than deal with that kind of service. read more

I almost invariably get overcharged for items when I shop here, if I don't watch closely. It happened last week when I bought a Pick 4. I didn't want to take the time to go back to the store, but I will refrain from shopping there again. It's much closer to my house than Stater Bros but Staters has much lower prices and they don't overcharge me. I contacted them but the form was glitching online so I couldn't even submit it. I have never been so offended as I was at the de Palma store at Corona this morning. A black employee insulted me in such a way that I have never been insulted before. She works in customer service and as of today, I will no longer be a customer of Vons. She treated me like I was a child when I ask for help with the product on the scanner. She already has an attitude when she came over to the self checkout register. I don't know what her problem is, but she felt like she was entitled to speak down to me and insult me the way she did take note people. read more

The only reason I shop at Vons is because it's much closer than Stater Bros. Besides having higher prices than any other grocery store near me, Vons is consistently out of advertised items, even on the first day of a sale. The meat counter is not staffed by the most knowledgeable employees and it's a toss up about the produce department, sometimes great, sometimes not. Almost every time I shop there, there's a pricing error on my receipt. Plus, many of the employees just don't seem happy to be working there. The best things about Vons is the bakery department and they have a really good selection of cheeses and deli items. read more

I am giving the store an overall 4/5 stars The store overall is a good grocery store, the people who work here have been kind and helpful. The store is kept clean. I like that this Vons has a decent amount of healthier brand options throughout the store. We love their meat market and we keep our eyes out for their meat sales and stock our freezer up when something's on sale. What I don't like about the store is that I've found out-of-date food items on the shelves a few times. Also, what I don't like about coming here is that you can get the weirdo people here from outside the nicer area that the store is in either from 15fwy out of town travelers or the not so nice areas down the road. If you come in the mornings on the weekdays, you see more normal people which makes shopping more comfortable for moms with kids. Their Store Pickup option from the Vons app is awesome! This store has the unenviable portion of being near two 55+ communities. What does that mean? Older folks tend to be critical more than most folks. I'm in that category, and cannot be happier with this store. Great feeling inside. Relaxing music, Starbucks in here, but my main focus of this review is the bakery. We ordered some sandwiches for our party. Rosa in the bakery took the order by phone. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and nailed the order to perfection! I would absolutely recommend this option for parties. The price was much more reasonable as opposed to the sandwich mega chains, and our guests were very complimentary of the food. I've lived in Horsethief for 4 years, and I am in this store at least twice a week. So everyone in the store knows me or sees me regularly. I stopped in on a Saturday and spent 90$ on groceries, including Chicken. I noticed when I got home, I was charged twice, 2 different prices for chicken.... I only bought one thing of chicken, so how I was charged twice, I have no idea... I went in the store a few days later and talked to someone behind the service counter, and I felt like I was bugging her as I showed her the receipt, She was pretty much walking away before I can even explain, but once I did she said "sorry, nothing I can do"! I don't care about the $18.00. But she was straight up mean, and basically treated me like shit. Everyone else in the store is supper friendly, so it's chill, I'll keep shopping there. I bought three $50 Macy gift cards from the gift card display in the store. Even though they were activated at the cashier checkout, when I decided to use them a few weeks later, they had been used and there was no money left on them. The store manager stated to me that their policy is that all gift card sales are final and they could not help me or refund my money. Macy's was not helpful either and I finally got them to open an investigation for fraud. Von's was not helpful at all. I would recommend not buying gift cards at that store. read more

Good selection and mostly well stocked at the Sycamore Creek location -- some items are pushed to the very far back on the top shelf though. Those can be difficult for me to get given my mediocre vertical and time does not always permit me to get help. Pricing is good, only a little marked up for the convenience of being hyper local to me in Sycamore, I think it's fair and worth it. All staff has been very friendly every time I've visited, though I mostly keep to myself unless I need help reaching something. Finally a clerk appeared and I I asked if they were going to open a check out lanes. She said yes, in a minute as she began a conversation with some type of technician. After that she disappeared. We have been shopping here since we moved to the area three years ago. We really liked the cleanliness of the store and the friendly personnel but something changed as the store has gone down hill. Unfortunately, out of stock and nearly expired goods are becoming more the norm. Today I purchased some pork ribs and when I opened the package a horrendous spoiled odor emerged. I drove back to the store to return them and let them know they need to check the other packages. I was met with no apologies and no acknowledgement that a follow-up would occur. I came back today and they rang up at six bucks apiece so I went to the customer service counter and the guy explained to me that that's a one time deal for the whole week, but Michale was an awesome dude and gave it to me at the discount price. I don't get how there is such a huge divide with different types of workers here. The manager here seems nice, the cashiers are all nice but the people in the deli are terrible. They are slow and don't pay attention. Asking questions of floor workers gets not much more than a noncommittal grunt. And there is one guy who is always outside complaining about work. Today that guy decided to up his laziness into rudeness with his attitude and commentary. I hate to throw away left overs, but don't mind tossing them in your case. Your rotisserie chicken is alright, I've had better, and flavored too.
