Cashier was really rude. He got into a screaming match with my sister and told her to go back to her neighborhood??? And kept condescendingly calling her "little girl" he apparently was concerned about selling alcohol to a minor and rudely tossed out my drinks in front of me and a family member. He yelled at her in front of the crowd and discriminated against us for no reason. We paid with my card and if he was worried about selling alcohol to a minor and throwing our drinks why did he leave a bottle we bought as well? He just made a scene and yelled at a minor for no reason. That's horrible service and no one stepped in to intervene and get their cashier under control. Who the hell yells at a minor?? And yelling those things?? Seems to me like an out of control employee with management also cooperating by staying silent and letting these things happen. read more

Went into Vons for a few items. The store is always clean and well lit. The customer service is good here too. Great selections and meat department. Lots of fish.. The prices fall in line with the rest of the stores around the area. Go figure... All in All the store is just ok. The bag issue is still a problem here with everyone. Just look at it like another tax but the store gets the tax. Funny how nothing went down now that the store does not have to pay for the bags... WTF???!!! The stores should evaluate how much money they are saving by not having to provide us with bags and lower the prices across the board... The checking out here is just ok to. I have seen faster checkouts. Sometimes it is just the slow people in line that cause the delays. Parking is great here. Easy in and out. read more

Still struggling to enforce mask requirement. On my last visit a month ago there were a number of shoppers ignoring the mask mandate & store employees failed to correct the situation let alone identify these opportunities to address. I came back to this store yesterday and shortly after entering an atypical OC gym rat couple with their toddler entered without wearing masks and allowing their toddler to run through the store barefoot on several occasions. I have a compromised immune system, my partner has a severe anxiety disorder stemming from PTSD. We tried to ignore it at first and avoid this couple for our safety, but they were unavoidable in the store. I went to a supervisor at the self checkout and told him about the couple. He said he would have someone go address the matter to the couple directly. On my way back I noticed the man at the meat counter ordering food and the employee behind the counter who was interacting with this customer said nothing about having to wear a mask. He continued serving him. I turned an aisle and the next time I saw the man he had a mask on -- incorrectly, nose exposed. His wife caught up to him with their child and she was still not wearing a mask. I continued to see the man sporadically throughout the store with his mask improperly worn, continuing to put people at risk. At one point I noticed his wife with their child up near the exit waiting for him while he continued to frantically shop. I suspect she had no mask with her, and may have been told she couldn't shop in the aisles. It would be great if this store had someone dedicated to watching the front door to remind customers to wear masks, or at the very least if all employees were required to enforce the mask requirement & held to account if they don't. No one likes wearing a mask, but this is all for nothing if we don't commit to everyone doing their part. This is the closest store to my home, and I don't plan on going back at this point. read more

This review is for their bakery. I like Von's cakes. I like the firm texture, icing is not too sweet and they look pretty good. Came at this location on 4th of July looking for a cake to impress my family. I immediately was drawn to this 2 tier all American cake. It was big. My complaint was the not so good customer service I received. The staff were busy in the back working on cakes, so it took me awhile to get someone's attention (didn't mind that). But once a staff helped me, I felt rushed. She answered one question and left right away O_o. I had to wait again for another staff to help me. So, I chose a 2 tier Fourth of July Cake $34 that looked super cool (see photo below). The staff took it to the back to box it. It took awhile. Once the staff came back, my 2 tier cake was in this makeshift box. I was shocked. I said, "my cake is squished!" (see the photo again) and she insisted that it wasn't and that they had to come up with something because they didn't have a box for big cakes. I completely understood, but I told her, "if I knew that, I would have picked another cake". But the staff just looked at me and didn't say anything. And I could have complained to the manager, but I chose not too. It wasn't worth it. But I did let her know that I wasn't happy. I still took the cake, paid for it and fixed it myself with when I got home O_o. I still like Vons, but I hope they improve their customer service. read more

You know I've been coming to this fown for a little bit it's on my way to the cemetery to put flowers down for my parents and it's a really clean store and usually the people are very kind but I get a sense that they don't understand that some people just want to be anonymous when they shop. This morning I was made to feel like I had to apologize because I was happy to stand in line and wait to be waited on I was shuffled through self-serve I was hovered over and when you're coming out of being in a pandemic you don't want people around you you're just trying to get used to being out in public. I guess I'm gonna have to go back to stater brothers where people are friendly from a distance. And that's unfortunate because I really have been enjoying the Vons store except for that. I am giving this location 5 stars because of KEVIN! He is the cart guy in the parking lot. But while exiting the store Kevin asked to push my cart to my vehicle. Of course I allowed him, he had such a wonderful ora. He didn't allow me to put my groceries in my vehicle, he wanted to do them for me! Such a gentleman. This is, by far, the worst grocery store I've ever been to, and unfortunately it's now the closest one to my house. Forget going during school start/end times unless you like being surrounded by 5000 teenagers. And I get it - my daughter goes to Canyon too, but dude... it's terrible during the 8 am/3 pm hours. The prices are insane. The checkers are rude. The final straw for me posting this review was going to the butcher yesterday and asking them to slice a round roast for me (which I'd had done there a month before). Butcher #1 says, "We don't have a slicer." Ummm, you're a freaking butcher and I've used you before. Yes, you do. He says, "No, no we don't... I've worked here for a year and we don't have a slicer." Seeing my exasperation, in comes butcher #2. He looks agitated at my existence, and I tell him I just wanted it sliced as thinly as possible for beef jerky. He says, "We DO have a slicer, but it's not going to slice it as thin as you want it." I say, "That's fine, just get it as thin as you can." He storms over to the actually not non-existent slicer, very irritated at this point, slices it, and practically throws the meat back at me. I'll take the drive and stick to Ralph's from now on. Usually when I come here I know the produce workers r gonna be rude to me so I always avoid them. But today they were extremely rude to a group of non English speaking individuals. All they wanted was a scale to weigh their fruit. All you have to do it take out your phone and go to google and translate the conversation. It's not hard to work in retail. YOU HELP THE CUSTOMER This is your job. Then they were in line behind me at the register and the cashier keeps repeating "do you want a bag!?" all hostel like. Get your act together Vons. You need to trim your staff on customer service. This Vons is horrible. There is one newer bagging worker who is always polite and pleasant. The only reason I don't shop at this store regularly is because I live right in between this and a Pavilions. So, of course I choose the newer bigger store that has more choices and is easy to move around in. On the occasion that I just pop-in this store because it's on my way home I find it clean and well stocked. It's small and cramped inside since it's an old location with no possible way to ad square footage....what can they do about that? It's weird to me that another reviewer complains about getting a greeting from the produce manager "every time" she enters the section........WTF? Isn't that what they are supposed to do? I find that to be great service..........although I'm fairly sure he doesn't actually want to help anyone "shop" for their produce!?! read more

This is probably one of the worst Von's I've ever been to. ALL of the employees are rude! The barely want to do their jobs. I asked the butcher to cut my chicken breasts thinner and he told me that I could buy them prepackaged. I told him I know, but why would I spend $2.00 more per lb. when that was his job. Well, as you see in other posts that the cashiers are rude and really don't like their jobs. This is direct reflection on their management at this store. I watch how management calls out 4 is open and ally he customers run over to be helped. What a rude way to help those that were waiting in long lines. I heard one manager say to a customer as he approached the register "Sweetie I'm not open"...SWEATIE.... Here are some tips to management Open express registers during high peak evenings. When a cashiers comes to open a line they should go to a long line and greet those waiting and offer to take them to their line Don't call customer sweetie and offer assistance to the closest open register. Maybe take note that you don't have enough lines open. SMILE Managers your job is to look around and see what's happening on your registers. BE BETTER... Care about your customers and I guarantee your day will be better. I will say the Ralphs has some very happy cashiers- they actually make my day better when I am assisted. It seems as they have joy while they are working and they work hard just as you do. read more

Despite my lack of desire to shop at Vons' affiliate store Pavillions down the street, the friendly and knowledgeable staff at this Vons is simply impressive. Whether I'm looking for deli meats, steaks, or seafood, they staff here is always willing to help and go above and beyond in making recommendations to assure a successful cooking experience once I've left the store. Nasty or indifferent cashiers here. I've been here probably six or seven times in the couple of years I've lived here, and not one single transaction has gone smoothly. I buy items from their clearance shelf, and they put the clearance sticker anywhere on the item. It's touch and go as to whether the cashier "notices" the clearance sticker, so I'm invariably charged full price for the item. We then have to go back, take off the item, re-scan it, THEN scan the clearance sticker. Stupid system. Ralph's puts clearance stickers over the UPC code, so you'll never be charged full price inadvertently. The store is also laid out badly. I went down the canned vegetable aisle for some canned tomatoes. Nope -- none there. They're on another aisle with spaghetti sauce. That might make sense if that's primarily what you use canned tomatoes for, but I make chili with them, and there are loads of other uses. Put them in with the vegetables! Then I headed to the spice aisle to find one of those chili seasoning packets. Was it there? Nope again! Finally found it -- in the canned vegetable aisle. WTH? Von's prices are also high -- much higher than Ralph's. Sure wish there were more Ralphs around. My final rant against Vons (and Pavilions) is that they refuse to have self-check registers. I once asked why they don't have them and was told "because they take away JOBS!!" Oh please. Spare me your foolish pro-union diatribe. How about providing what the customers want? I shop here a few times a week and it is always clean, friendly and very well stocked. The main reason I shop here is the ORGANIC selection is amazing. Great selection of quality fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, juices, milk, chicken, grains, bread, tortillas, condiments...they have almost everything you need to prepare fresh and healthy meals at very reasonable prices. The dessert section is typical for a grocery store and I am hoping they will bring in better choices. The wine selection is better than most grocery stores with some good deals and the beer and spirits selection is ok. read more

I love the fact that Vons has an app that I can use to pre-order groceries online. I live in Texas, so there isn't a Vons store near me. When we traveled to Disneyland last summer, I was concerned about getting to a grocery store to get snacks and supplies for my three small children. We didn't rent a car. While exploring online, I discovered Vons. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, the selection was great, and the delivery was free. The groceries were even waiting for us in our hotel room when we checked in. We are traveling to Disneyland again this summer, and we will be getting all of our snacks and supplies from Vons! read more

I have been to Vons many times in the past. I have noticed over the period that their service has sometimes been rather inconsistent. I recently needed a cake made at their in-store bakery. On the day I was to receive my purchase, my cake was unfortunately done wrongly. I wanted something pretty simple for my nephew; however, the simplest thing in the world seemed too much for whoever took my order. They were at least kind enough to rectify their mistake. Scallops very fresh and wonderful Thanks God!. I took pride in the meal preparation. Served dinner . Sat down and cut into the Vons Steak they claimed was choice category. She scolds you and tells you what you can't have and makes it embarrassing in front of everyone in the line. Most items have signs up that say limit 1 or 2. Pavilions Deli, customer service seems to be low on the Totem pole with Laura. After standing by the deli meats for several minutes (no other customers being helped) I walk over to the heated goods area, finally I'm seen. Laura says go write down what you want, so asked asked is there someone working this area and she replied ME, BUT I'M BUSY. What was she busy doing that she couldn't help a customer??? Moving chicken from the heated goods area.... just moving chicken that's it. She was too busy to help a paying customer because she needed to move chicken. By this point I've been there for 5 minutes, no customers on the deli side, 1 customer in the heated goods area being assisted by the other employee. Thankfully there's another grocery store on my way home that wants my business, so I left and gave that business to Ralph's. read more

One of the reasons why i come here is the fact that i live about 10minutes away. I always enjoyed coming to this Von's, considering they have pretty good sales, it's clean, and the atmosphere is not bad. One night, a ridiculous / bad incident happened here, so that's why i am giving it 2 stars (I'm being pretty generous). The incident happened one night, while i was coming home from work. I remembered i needed to grab a few things from the grocery market, so i went to Vons. I bought my groceries, and headed for the cash registers. Well this was at 10:30pm, and only 1 line was open, totally understandable, considering how late it was. I was greeted by this middle aged man, who looked pretty grumpy to begin with. He gave me my total, i paid him, and i headed towards the exit. I began to look at the receipt since the total change didn't seem right. Yep, i was correct, he didn't give me my 10$. I went back to him and politely explained that the change was incorrect. He first rolled his eyes, then chuckled and said "nope". I told him to look at the receipt, and he said "i am busy". I asked to speak to the manager, he looked at me for a good five seconds, blurted out "okay here is your money", sighed really loud and opened his register, and handed me 10$. I looked at him very confused, and said, "i never told you the amount of change you owe me". He said, "so"? At that point, i knew he did it on purpose, he did owe me 10$, but the fact that he didn't apologize, and he handed me the correct change, without even knowing him how much he owes me really got me puzzled. I hope that employee gets fired. read more
