The Voll Motel is an older building, but it has been lovingly cared for and updated where needed (new tiling in the shower, for example). The room was clean and comfortable. The owner is extremely nice and even stopped by the room with restaurant recommendations. The location is quiet but within easy walking distance of local businesses. The Voll does not seem to take reservations or contract with any of the mass market hotel apps. Nonetheless, do yourself a favor next time you are in Ukiah... skip the chains and keep your eyes peeled for the Voll Motel "Vacancy" sign. You won't be sorry for the experience and value at this family-run business! read more

And wouldn't sell us a room because we had a person with mental illness in our group. he was so openly rude, and insinuated our member was either drunk or high which was so wild to me. The rooms here are unreasonably small. Room was freezing cold upon arrival. (Give it 2 hrs to heat up.) No shelf or table or anything near the bathroom to keep toothbrush etc.on. all back into my bag after each use!! No place in the room AT ALL to set your luggage on ( Really???? Not even a cheap fold up one.. Nope) No microwave. No shampoo. Cheap, gringy towels. The sheets are not fitted ( I woke up with my face directly on the mattress....YUCK!! And the sheets all balled up beside me) Annnnd...Room service was nice enough to turn my heat down in the room today while I was at work.. Free of charge! Freezing cold again! It's just another roadside motel, nothing architecturally outstanding here, nothing even that historic about the place. It's been at the same location for over 60 years and only the last 10 years has the jolly Narendra owned the motel. Narendra has a lilt in his voice that makes even the end of a long day of driving seem easy. With the positive energies of Narendra and his family, the Voll Motel holds its own in the inexpensive motel market of Ukiah. As I arrived I was offered smoking or non-smoking rooms, that may seem normal, but more and more that option is going away. I chose non-smoking and the room smelled fresh and clean. Parking is right in front of your room (in most cases) making it an easy-in/easy-out affair. Just don't back into your parking spot, not sure why tho. The room was a decent size, the bed, large and firm with a somewhat strange (to this country) choice of bedsheets, nothing fitted. The bed was very comfortable none the less. Everything was clean; simple carpet, decent sized mini fridge, a writing desk and chair, nice A/C heater combo that blasted the room hot or cold and a medium-sized flat screen with all the basic cable channel choices. There was no microwave tho, another odd choice, but not that much of an inconvenience for my stay. There are obvious signs that this motel has been here for a while, none more apparent than the room door security, or lack thereof. Your door opens with an actual key, you know, those metal things that we used to stick into keyholes to open doors? Yeah, that's what the Voll prefers. Once inside the room, you can see that there is no deadbolt whatsoever, just a classically useless door chain and a button on the inside doorknob to lock it. Not high security at all, luckily you're still in Ukiah. Ukiah might not be the first place you think of stopping in this area of northern California, but if you should find yourself in Ukiah in need of a motel, you really can't beat the Voll for around $60 you get a nice, clean room in a quiet part of town. How does this place have so many good reviews? Super dirty, bugs in the room, no shampoo provided in the shower, the sheet on the bed isn't a sheet, etc... this place is super sketchy. The woman checking me in from behind bullet proof glass really should have warned me, but I trusted the good yelp reviews. $85 a night for a single person, and you couldn't get me to stay here again for free. read more

This place has always looked retro/quaint and I finally had a chance to stay there. The rooms were very clean & tidy - the cinder block construction means you don't hear sounds coming from the neighbors. The bed was very clean and comfortable - and the no smoking room was definitely free of smoke odors. The owner was very courteous and efficient. I would stay here again! Voll Motel was quiet and very little traffic -- no sketchy looking people hanging out in the parking lot playing loud music like I saw at other hotels down the street. Front office lady is rude. I show up and before I even get a chance to close my car door, she's telling me I can't stay there because she "has a sign that says no pets"... Um ok, I haven't had a chance to see that yet.... So I say the dog will be staying in the car (she's used to that, we travel weekly, not too hot or cold out right now). Lady refuses to let me stay and simply points at the lil sticker in the window like it's golden. I drove for three days from Missouri and I could barely walk to the front office. I had tried my usual places in Ukiah, but they were all full or had outrageously expensive rates. I have stayed at most of the motels in Ukiah, but I had never stayed here before. I made my way down the tree-lined streets and found this small peaceful oasis. The owner was very kind. In spite of my appearance he showed me a nice room and gave me a great rate for the night. It depends on what kind of princess you are, but this is a really decent place to stay. I am a princess, but also down home girl from the Ozarks. I love this place! This is a simple motel, but it is perfectly simple. Almost zen like simplicity. It's very peaceful. It feels really safe. A lot of motels in this price range and in this region do not feel very safe. The parking spots are right in front of your room. The parking lot is easy to get in and out of. Key points: * Simple but good amenities * Clean * Safe * Wifi that works. If you are a travelling professional like myself, you need good internet. Voll delivers. * Nearby an excellent Japanese fusion restaurant, a pub with good food. Also across the street is a corner market and laundromat. I went to get a room, extremely tired from the road. I simply asked "have you ever had problems with bed bugs?" And the man at the front desk tells me "no you ask about bed bugs, you go somewhere else. Find another hotel." I've just had a bad day experience at a hotel years ago where they did have bed bugs so I was being wary. He insisted I leave and that was that. Pretty bad experience. Good motel. I stayed here for a night-trip to Ukiah to see the Buddhist temple and just to chill in Ukiah. It's a 5-minute walk from downtown Ukiah so it's really convenient. The motel itself is really just a motel, it's not fancy but it's pretty good as far as they go. I only had the option of taking a smoking room, and I try not to smoke much now, but I figured to smoke a bit in there. Despite that, the room didn't smell too badly of smoke. Sheets were clean and it provided two glass ashtrays. The bathroom comes with two bars of soap, and the sink worked fine, unlike some motels. There is also a small closet, a chair, and the bed is fairly big. I was alone so I had a lot of room on it. It has CABLE TV. It has AMC, The History Channel, MTV, VH1, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, etc, so as a person who lives in a house with no cable anymore that really was nice for me to have. There is Wi-Fi too, which had an okay speed. Staff guy was nice, and the woman who I assume was his wife watered the plants of the motel's garden. It's only $55, which is pretty cheap, but I guess Ukiah doesn't have a lot of visitors compared to other places where I've slept at. I slept at a crappy hotel in Daly City which was $75 which was a last resort, with no free Wi-Fi and few TV channels, and no working sink and looked like it was falling apart and very dirty, and this Ukiah one is a step up from that. read more

But the reviews make them out to be a clean, cheap option for a night's stay, and I needed to find something for that night anyway, so that could have worked. Unfortunately, when I called to ask about availability and pricing for the night, I had trouble hearing what the man on the phone was saying. I don't know if it was his accent, a poor connection, or the ambient noise, but I had to ask him to repeat himself a few times. His response? To yell at me and insult me for having trouble hearing. This motel is amazing. The outside of the property is spotless and well maintained. The building is built out of cinder blocks for amazing insulation and noise control. The only noise is from the road as the owner operator won't allow any noise! This guy obviously runs a tight ship. Don't come here looking for a party spot! My room, #8, is quaint. Has a small desk, closet, fridge, small tv, and the most comfortable king size bed I've ever slept on. The down filled pillows are very comfy and fluffy. OMG, the sheets on the bed are real sheets not institutional! The bathroom is nice. No tub but the shower is great and the tile work is beautiful. I had to pay a $50 deposit for the non smoking room that he personally checks to make sure I didn't smoke in before he returns the deposit. No smoke stench in the non smoking rooms! Free wifi! This is my new go to in Ukiah. Wonderful Wonderful motel with only 20 rooms! BTW, don't dive into the pool. It's full of dirt and being used as a flower garden! read more

First, why anyone would name a motel "Voll" is beyond me. That being said I have stayed there twice and will be back. The rate is good ($50+). It is clean the caretaker (owner?) polite and nice, and it is reasonably well maintained with all the basics. Definitely, makes no attempt at being charming, but at the rate they charge I don't need b-n-b service or the latest (or even last decades) styles. The bed is okay, on the firm/hard side. One negative point, on one side, the wall is concrete block and sound proof, the other wall is definitely not concrete and not sound proof. Thankfully the other guests were respectful and fairly quiet. read more

The gentleman at the counter asked to meet the dog before he could say yes, and that went well. I fell in love with this place. It is everything you need in a simple hotel. Extremely clean, very comfortable bed, inexpensive. The proprietor was helpful and friendly. We stopped overnight on our way north. My young son, husband, and I were delighted to find that there was a pizza joint two blocks away. Bonus points for the up-to-date arcade and dynamite pizza. This hotel was a great stay! Thick walls block out any loud noise and the room is comfy. Theirs free wifi if you need it and the beds are comfortable. The tv is an old tube style tv but there are plenty of channels so it's no big deal unless you need a super nice set. The only thing that stinks is no pool outside or tub in the room but the stand up shower is really nice with all cool tiles with interesting desighn. Overall this place gets a 5 star becouse it only cost 55 bucks a night! There's AC and a fridge in the room as well!! BTW the owner is super nice and the reason the place is so nice and plesent apperantly is becouse he is super discerning with who stays there! Only issue I had was a super loud rumbling bike reving on startup at 730 am but that's more the fault of the rude biker! read more

the voll motel is a simple place for people with few needs. i've stayed here a few times and for the price of $55 including tax, i have nothing bad to say. the rooms are on the small side, with the bed taking up the majority of the room. however, the beds are extremely large and comfortable and the sheets very clean! there is a small closet and a desk with a chair and large mirror above it. in the bathroom there is a shower stall ( no tub ) , a lot of towels and a few bars of soap. the bathroom, like the rest of the room, was very clean! there is a mini fridge inside the room (works very well) , and at the front desk there is a microwave for guest use. the color tv comes in well and has a lot of channels. If he would really like a bonafide, I can suggest a place in downtown Redding or Sac with the clientele and description that would fit his fantasy perfectly. The Voll is a very clean family run motel near downtown Ukiah that is a welcome relief from corporate owned motels. I have stayed here on motorcycle tours on 101 and when visiting friends in Ukiah. Its not far from the State Street exit and like I said, a few blocks from the downtown brew pub and coffee shop, and the Quest Mart (just go). All in all a great, affordable clean spot. read more
