Although the Tallman website looks like it may have been redone since I stayed there (and it looks great), it still can't do justice to this charming place! I stayed there at the recommendation of a local colleague and hated having to leave. Room was impeccably clean and charming in every way with a great bath tub (important!). Even fresh cookies by the bedside. I ordered food from the Blue Wing (yum!) and relaxed on the little balcony looking out at the glow of the lights on the tree-lined courtyard (which looked great if you are having a gathering with friends). This would be an excellent weekend getaway if you are looking to explore Lake County wineries, the lake, or if my fellow Bay Area people want a change of scene getaway that is not too far (but far enough to feel different). Upper Lake is cute and be sure to check out Double D's coffee for coffee and delicious breakfast/treats!

Really beautiful boutique hotel. Came here on a research meeting trip and had a great time staying at Tallman! (Blue Wings next doors is also a great restaurant!)

    Welcome cookies

We always stay at the Tallman when visiting family in Lakeport. Arriving after the long drive from LA is a balm to body and soul. Delightful surroundings, reasonably priced local wine chilling in the fridge, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies welcome us upon arrival. The morning breakfast has great coffee and standard continental breakfast fare. I always take a cup of coffee to go. Next door the restaurant The Blue Wing offers casual bar & grill fare and often live music, which can also be enjoyed from the veranda rooms outdoor area at the Tallman. Always a pleasure.

Just spent a marvelous 2 days & a night here. A delightful little - 16 room - garden historic hotel that was restored in 2003. The original hotel was built in the 1870's and was operated as a hotel, resort & boarding house until the 1960's when it was closed and not reopened again until 2003. In kind of a funky little northern California town - Upper Lake - at the north end of Clear Lake (a large lake). The Clear Lake region is a resort and water destination area with lots of little towns with cabins, boating, and other water related sports activities. A number of wineries are also in the area. Many vacation homes and summer places are available, but none more unique or elegant than the Tallman Hotel. The rooms are large and appointed with care. Every detail has been carefully added - - down comforter on the king size bed, English bath essentials, robes, DVD player w/free DVDs in the office, mini bar, etc. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. A delightful light breakfast was included in the price of the room and served with care. There was a wedding party in 13 of the 16 rooms the night we were there and we were totally unaware they were even there. The rooms are quiet and well insulated from outside noices. Of course, all we had to do was open the door onto our 2nd story porch to hear the marvelous light jazz band that was playing in the garden at brunch time the Sunday morning we were there. I truly only have two little complaints about the entire experience. One, there was a section of the garden walkway from the main building to the building where our room was located that was gravel. Because it had been raining, our shoes and luggage tracked gravel into the room and onto the carpet. They need to add some type of walkway in this small section - perhaps some large pieces of flagstone. Two, the breakfast coffee was very weak - what I call Utah coffee, sort of brown water. Of course, I am a typical Californian, I like strong coffee. Other than those two tiny complaints, the rest of this hotel experience was marvelous. I truly wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to my dearest friends and family and I will return the first opportunity I have. If you are looking for loud, flashy and roudy, this isn't your place. If you are looking for an elegant, friendly and quiet place to escape the hustle and bustle, you will not be disappointed. Try it, you will like it.

This is by far the nicest place to stay near Clearlake. It has a nice restaurant next door. It's in a cute little downtown area. The staff are very nice. Highly recommend.

Is the pool heated all year? If so, to what temperature?

Hi Sheryl - Sorry but the pool is not heated. Usually good for swimming from mid-May on. We have a nice 100 degree hot tub in te pool area though. You could heat up there and then jump in!!! Bernie

What time does the front desk close? We will arrive at 8pm. Will there be someone to check us in?

Front desk closes at 8:00. Please call the front desk at 707-275-2244 ext. 0 and tell them you might be late. They'll make arrangements to leave the check-in materials in the box for you in case you arrive after they've left. Thanks Bernie Butcher

Do any rooms have king beds?

We almost didn't come because of Yelp, but glad we didn't let the negative reviews sway us. Charlie and Jose are THE BEST. Happy to help and always with a smile. Not sure what the other reviews are complaining about. (It was amazing enough for me to come back and leave a review.) The waterfront room we got was fine - clean sheets and doable . It's a lodge in nature, not the Four Seasons people. There will be bugs! We did discover the suite at the end of our stay and OMG. We are booking it next time (because we're making this place one of our regular staycation spots)! But the property is what we loved most. Yes, there are boats, paddle boards & kayaks you can rent. But there's also fishing off the dock, a water trampoline, private "beach" w/ sand & swimming/floating access, huge grass lawn overlooking the water where you can lay out (if you're not a sand person) & picnic, and bbqing on the deck with lots of tables to dine at. We have 3 kids (8, 6 and 10 mos) and came up with family, also with a bunch of kids. Everyone had a good time! Yelp is tough because there are a lot of keyboard warriors out there. Don't let other people make you miss out on amazing experiences like we almost did.

The room was clean with fresh sheets and towels, bed was comfy enough. My partner and I noticed the window blinds were broken on one side which prevented full privacy or letting in the natural daylight. The room provided a decent quality microwave and fridge w/ freezer. However, the fridge w/ freezer wasn't working. If I needed to keep any liquids cold, I had to put it on ice with the provided ice bucket. The room would get pretty hot, so my partner and I would blast the AC but felt like the AC wasn't working all that well. My partner ended up getting sick during this trip. The Narrows truly wants that family chill vibe at the resort and does a great job of creating it. This is not the place to come for drunken loud partying. I know other guests and I really appreciate the wholesomeness of the entire resort and the experience it provides our families. I watched my young daughter catch her 1st fish ever, from the dock. The town of Williams may be small, but it has several solid restaurant options along with fast food and pizza spots--and even DoorDash delivers right to the hotel, which is a nice bonus after a long day of driving. The hotel itself has been fully renovated, and it really shows. You can tell the ownership genuinely cares about both the property and their guests. Everything feels clean, updated, and well maintained. Amenities are excellent for a stopover or short stay. There's a swimming pool, a grill for cooking, and even a small gym. Parking is plentiful, and most of the time you can park right outside your room, which is great if you're traveling with a car full of belongings or just want peace of mind. In the morning, they offer a basic continental breakfast with hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, danishes, and yogurt.
