Started with olives, almonds and a carafe of local rose, which was delicious. This was followed by some outstanding bread with herb butter and caperberries, and local, Mendocino cured king salmon, which was a celiac special! It was delicious and herbaceous with avocado, caperberries and dill. This was followed by the salad greens with asparagus and bresaola. The bresaola was a great compliment to the greens and the asparagus was particularly unique - fresh, crisp, fresh and while not quite asparagus-y they were so good, a bit sweet. They were from Zuckerman Farms in the Sacramento valley. Next was a bowl of noodles and asparagus, ramps, very fresh fava beans (not firm or mushy!) and parsley, or the same over polenta instead of Italian pasta noodles for the gluten-free. It was simple, but fresh and rich and luxurious. Three for three at this point. The end point was duck confit with oranges and kumquats over wild rice with some greens. The duck was perfectly cooked, although a tad too salty. Nonetheless, we cleaned the plates. And, who would have paired rosemary with oranges (?) but it worked. The meal was finished with vanilla ice cream over meringue, topped with lemon curd, and fresh strawberries and rhubarb, both of which were not only fresh but redolent of the flavors that they appear to have otherwise lost. The wine list is small but we greatly enjoyed both the pinot rose from Scribe and the pinot noir from Drew. I remain very frustrated by all of their fees and add on costs. We only used the kitchen to boil water for tea. It was the bee season and our food was feeding the bees nicely. It was a moment to appreciate the co-existence in the nature. There was a hot tub on site. I didn't have time to enjoy it but I had some happy friends at night. There was an outdoor shower area and it looked quite nice. The bathrooms here are rustic yet modern? If that makes sense. The campus here is incredibly beautiful. The trees treated us nicely. There were many good memories left here and we were lucky to secure the facility for our retreat. Our program was pretty packed. I wished I had more time to explore the campus. It was beautiful here.

There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.

If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Orr hot springs is not that, but it doesn't claim to be. The good: - It really does have unique historic, rustic, nature, hippy charm. -The tubs are pretty cool and not something I've seen in a lot of other hot spring resorts. Nice to have some alone time. - It is unique, and that's why I gave it four stars rather than two. -The communal kitchen and lobby are great and I love the seeing all the great food people are cooking! -They have wagons you can put your stuff in to carry from the car to the campgrounds. This is much nicer than carrying by hand. Great addition. The bad: -The sauna's need to be significantly improved. They're super small, and if someone opens the door it can take minutes to-reheat. It was cold after two people came in. -There are rules/signs everywhere! It felt like every five feet there was another sign saying what to do. It feels like the whole system relys on each person doing things exactly right when it could just "work". For example, there's a gate that goes to the campgrounds right next to a tent site. They tell people to close it silently. If the gate was better designed or there was no gate, the guests wouldn't have to worry about closing it silently. Now multiple that sign/placard by 50x. There's a lot of signs and rules. If you go to a place like Harbin, you don't have to worry about rules everywhere, the design of the facility "just works" -It didn't feel as clean as other resorts I've been to. -To place a reservation over the phone, you have to call, and they call you back. I don't know why think guests want this experience instead of picking up the phone. This is hard especially if you're in a place like Mendocino going in and out of reception and you have no idea when they'll call you back to just to place a reservation. Overall: Not a fancy hotel, a unique experience and worth a visit if you happen to be in area.

Diane and Damien are exceptional hosts. They're incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can tell how much thought and genuine care goes into the experience they've created. Rendezvous is cozy, beautiful and peaceful, but it's all of the thoughtful little details throughout the stay that really set it apart. Our private hot tub session after a long day on the road was such a treat, and waking up to a fresh homemade breakfast the next morning somehow made it even better. One of my favorite little touches? They have complimentary Rendezvous postcards for guests. I loved our stay so much that I sat down and sent FIVE of them to friends and family while we were there. I was basically doing their marketing for them before we had even checked out. The day before we placed our breakfast order and it was delivered to our door in the morning. The ginger scone was my favorite but the biscuits were also huge and fluffy. Loved the matcha latte. The flowers and plants on the property were gorgeous. If you walk to the top of the property, there is a gazebo and sitting area. Perfect for a place to read. You can see the ocean and hear the Sea Lions. One night we signed up for an hour long session in the hot tub. It was very private, clean, and super relaxing. If you go after dark, the stars are incredible. The pathways were well lit for your walk back. Before visiting, I was a little unsure of what the electric vehicle charging would look like. There are two sections of parking, depending on which room you are staying in. They are well marked based on which room you stay in and don't require a long walk. I recommend to have directions saved and to look up ideas on where you want to go before you leave. There will be little to no signal once you leave the property. Had a fantastic dinner at Izakaya Gama (be sure to make reservations ahead of time) and went to The Record afterwards for a drink. There was a live band and so much positive energy. Damien and Diane were so friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to go back, try a different room, do a wine tasting with Diane and explore more of this gorgeous area.
