The rooms are comfortable and I love that they include a private little deck, a small fridge and microwave when you just feel like hanging in your room and staring at the Gualala River and the Pacific Ocean in one fell swoop. However, the owners need to update the Coffee station in the room. IT is TIME. Small expense, big improvement. We got some businesses to take care of in the Point Arena. But we couldn't find a vacancy during the 4th July long weekend. So by luck, we found this nice hotel in Gualala. The check-in was smooth and the complimentary sparkling cider was welcoming. Just like Michael (front desk manager or owner?) said the room had great ocean view, we were pleasant surprised by the quality of the room (very quite and warm), and the architecture design (vaunted ceiling, fire place). The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the tepid shower water and unpractical jacuzzi tub. Other than that, it is a nice place to stay when you drive through coastal highway 1. read more

We've been coming to the Mendocino Coast about 20 years now and SeaCliff is hands down my favorite place to stay. I even went as far as researching about 11 other places along the Mendocino Coast just to experience a different place, and I was right back booking at SeaCliff again with no regrets. This is a 16-unit river/ocean front complex, and my preference are the upstairs rooms. The complex is very quiet, and the only thing you hear is the roaring ocean outside two huge picture windows in your room. There are also two small side windows that open, and a door with a screen that leads out to a balcony. I absolutely love staying here. The gas fireplace makes for nice ambiance and it something I always enjoy having on, with one of the windows open to get the cool breeze in the room with the coziness and warmth of the fire. With the sounds of the crashing waves in the back, it makes for the most excellent sleep. The bed is firm and comfortable with just enough top blankets for a restful slumber. The jet tub is a lovely bonus. Each room has a nice little refrigerator that actually keeps your items cold, and a microwave. You will be within walking distance to coffee, a bakery, two stores and a good handful of restaurants. They also provide a bottle of sparkling cider in your room. When I started staying here a few decades ago it was champagne, but I am not complaining. Front desk staff were nice, and helpful. I will stay here again and again. read more

We stayed for one night and it was awesome. The staff was great. The room wasn't fancy but very clean. That is important in my book. The room and grounds were well kept. We sat on the deck and watched a parade of whales go by. The price was great for what we got. We've paid twice as much for a dump. The lady that checked us in complimented us on our car and advised us not to park where I did because of the trees dropping sap. I really appreciated that. This place seems to be well run and taken care of. We liked it so much we are going to buy a night there for our son and his girlfriend. If had to say anything negative it would be there wasn't enough TP supplied but I'm sure If I had asked it would of been supplied. Overall a great value and a thumbs up. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at Seacliff on the Bluff -- they happened to have a room (two double beds) on July 4th weekend and I had a beautiful view of the ocean. The double bed is just noticeably smaller than my queen bed at home -- next time, I'll request a king room. The bath tub makes it all worth it though - it's so comfortable, and the little grocery north of the inn in Anchor Bay even has jacuzzi friendly foaming bath salts in individual packets! The staff were very kind and warm. All Covid-19 precautions were taken and the place was super clean. The balcony/ patio was sweet - great visits from birds and neighbors, heaps of people walking cute dogs. I love that the room has a fridge and microwave - made it easy for me to provision myself for the 3 day weekend. One thing I had to ask for from the front desk were towels to clean out the tub between uses -- it would be great if they had a basket of "towels for tubs and spills" available for visitors to grab and go (some of us take care of the places where we stay). Other guests were all friendly - though the folks who stayed above me for one night were quite noisy and I could hear their amplified music and shoe-clad stomping all night long. read more

We come here year after year because the location and views are incomparable. Below our huge windows the Gualala River empties into the Pacific Ocean. We sleep with the door to our private deck open so we hear the surf all night. It's great during whale watching season but the birds are here year round to put on a show. You can walk anywhere in town in minutes. The room isn't fancy but each room has a large spa tub and a fireplace. I recommend you ask for an upstairs room for the best experience. I went there to get away from sheltering in place for too many months with my family! It was everything I had hoped for. The room was spacious and remarkably clean, the view divine, the bed was super comfy, the gas fireplace was a treat and of course the balcony and jacuzzi tub took it over the top! Even during this C-19 time there were places in town to get food to go. Surf market within a short walk, is the best. Easy driving to wonderful beach walks and hikes. We have stayed here many times. The view of the ocean from an upstairs room is fabulous. The rooms are very clean. They come with an extravagantly large jacuzzi tube and a small deck overlooking the beach and river. There is also a gas fireplace for the cooler foggy days. Cell phone reception available for some carriers but not mine. (There is a landline in the room.) They also have actual metal keys for the doors and you need to lock the door when you leave. The motel is next to Trinks and there is a pedestrian trail that runs along the cliff going south which will take you to the Surf Market and other locations 'downtown'. If you want real coffee early you can walk a block to the bakery in the shopping center. There is cable tv but no movie channels, Netflix, etc. read more

I got sick from the perfume smell in the room and had book 2 days and checked out early after the first night. I asked if they could give me some kind of refund. No one's responded yet. It's been a couple weeks it's not a high-end . They claim they don't use perfumes in their cleaning agents but I'm not sure what kind of quality control they have put in place. Maybe they don't inspect the room after it's cleaned and maybe somebody spilled some perfume in there before I occupied, but it made me sick. Ruined my weekend read more

This hotel is expensive and inflexible. I originally booked for 4 nights. Then I changed it to arrive one day earlier. They billed me upon arrival. I notified them on Saturday that I needed to check out on Sunday (4 instead of 5) which was the same number of nights I originally booked for. They refused to refund the additional night. So it cost me $200 because I didn't give them 72 hours notice... (I didn't know 72 hours ahead) In the long run it will cost them more because I won't stay there again... nor will I recommend them to others. I will share my unhappy experience instead... as do all unhappy customers. Also there were some issues with the room, but I made do. Excessively noisy bathroom fan which came on with the light, which constantly flickered, and the water temperature in the shower went hot and cold. I expected better. The good thing was the view... I've stayed here before, but next time I'll stay somewhere else... read more

This is a great spot on Hwy 1. Sea Cliff is a charm. The owners are very Covid conscience and we felt very safe. Not to mention the facility. Loved the fireplace and the 2 chairs that we could view the water as it was cold out and we couldn't stay on the deck any longer. We are going down the coast next year and this spot is going to be a regular stop for us. I recommend anyone traveling the coast this is a must stop. read more

When I told friends of mine in San Francisco that I was staying the weekend in Gualala, no-one had any idea where I was talking about. It seems few people go much further north on Hwy 1 than Jenner. Gualala is remote and it takes a strong stomach to get there. Yes, I mean stomach because of all the winding curves on Hwy. 1 will test your tolerance of motion sickness.. Of course if you can survive the drive without losing your lunch, then it is well worth the visit. There are a few hotels in the area but having stayed at Seacliff On the Bluff I'd look no further. We stayed on the second floor which I'd completely recommend because you'll get a better view of the ocean plus you'll get to enjoy the spacious vaulted ceilings of your unit. Additionally, our room came with a very comfortable bed and a huge bathtub that doubled as a jacuzzi. Sleeping won't be an issue because you'll be lulled into a slumber by the waves crashing on the beach about 100 yards away. I've honestly never slept better. If you are up for a hike, there is a trail right behind the complex. From there I believe you can walk to a beach access south of town. I've read a few comments about the lack of cellular service. I guess these people have AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile. We have Verizon and didn't have a problem - can you hear me now? I didn't do a speed test on the free Wifi service but it for sure was faster than dial-up. The owner/innkeeper was very helpful and nice which is always a bonus. If you are looking for a nice, clean, spacious room with a spectacular views and sounds of the Pacific then look no further than Seacliff on the Bluff. read more

We always have an awesome stay here. The room has 2 comfy chairs that sit in front of the big picture windows, a jacuzzi tub, fireplace.. pretty much everything needed for a relaxing, romantic getaway :) Trinks next door was a bonus, the food there is so fresh and yummy! Only complaints are that they recently raised the prices, but didn't do any kind of upgrades. And they no longer give discount for multiple day stays which used to be awesome and more incentive to stay here. We also wish they had at least a couple rooms that were pet friendly (hate having to leave our dog at home) Overall though we always have a great stay and would recommend the hotel! read more

My family loves this place. After our visit this past weekend, I can see why. The rooms are spotless. Each one has a fireplace, a spa tub, a refrigerator, and a private balcony that overlooks the water. You can sit back and watch the surf or take in the sunset (or sunrise). The hotel is also quiet, has ample parking, offers free Wi-Fi, and isn't too pricey. Most points in downtown (food! shopping! art!) are in easy walking distance, including the beach--although you have to walk a lot farther than you would think to get there. One downside is they only have king size beds. The option of two doubles or two twins would have been nice, but we made do. We also only had one patio chair and one coffee mug. Two of everything to start would have been nice, but was easy enough to fix. Seacliff was a restful spot in a very relaxing little town. Recommended. read more

Truly a lovely time! While it doesn't look spectacular from the road, the rooms are plenty big enough with outstanding views of the Pacific. Instead of central heat, the thermostat controls the fireplace directly. We love having the windows wide open all night to hear the waves, so when it got chilly enough the fireplace kicked on in the middle of the night. Awesome. Note that there is no beach access, you need to drive to the other side of the Gualala River and pay a $7 per car fee to get to the actual beach. I don't mind this as it means there's really very few people on the beach. The staff is very friendly and happy to answer questions. Our room was cleaned everyday -- even when we left at weird hours -- and chocolate was left in our rooms. read more

We have been going here for years. The place has been changing owners. The rooms are great. The views are awesome. There is a fireplace and very small refrigerator. if you care to watch tv there is Roku+ Jacuzzi in the room. Beds are ok. Restaurants and groceries within walking distance. The rooms on the top floor have better views, better privacy but are more expensive! There is the surf motel right next to this property and sometimes it can get loud or you could smell smoke if you're out in the balcony. We usually stay in the room and watch the view. It's a great place to relax! What is not relaxing it's dealing with the staff and management. We asked to check out 15 min later from the scheduled time and they refused! We booked a room and got their promotional discount and at the LAST minute they wouldn't honor it! In addition they didn't want to give us the room that we originally booked A YEAR in advance! One of the worst customer service I have ever encountered! We have been coming here for many years and in the past it was always a great experience but it's no longer! I don't recommend this place and we're looking for another place to stay. Such a disappointment because it was my favorite place to go! read more

I love this place, and it is SO affordable! It has three of my favorite amenities: whirlpool tub, fireplace and an ocean view, and the bed is very comfortable. The wonderful Surf Market is just a few doors down, and you can have a nice spread of gourmet delights right in your room. We just engulfed lox, bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. Yum! We make a weekend trek here every few months for pure relaxation. We love watching the gulls, pelicans and seals right from the comfortable recliners- binoculars are even provided. Haven't seen whales yet, but we'll be back during the season. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and have lots of information about things to do and see. This has to be the worst stay I have ever had in Gualala. My boyfriend and I frequent this small oceanside town every few months and try to stay in different hotels each time. We're were sorely disappointed with not only the accommodations but the service as well. The room itself was downstairs with a gorgeous view of the ocean. There were two large windows facing the water and two leather lounge chairs to sit and enjoy it in. Unfortunately, there was also a walking path five feet from the windows which allowed any passerby to clearly see all the way through the room. Additionally, at night the very thin shades that cover the windows showed everything going on inside with the lights on. One thing we really liked was the jacuzzi tub and the large comfortable bed. There was a fireplace that wouldn't turn on for us, perhaps they should leave some instructions out in the future. We were very disappointed to see that there wasn't any complimentary breakfast as well. Of all the hotels we've stayed at there was always some small spread with bagels and coffee. At checkout when I asked about the breakfast the woman at the counter was very unpleasant and kind of sarcastic saying that there were restaurants across the street. So for the price in comparison with other hotels on the same strip it's just not worth it. And I would like to add that the smoking restrictions are inconvenient. They do not allow smoking even outdoors on the patios and there's a $150 fee for doing so. I totally understand not allowing smoking inside, that's disgusting. However, if you're a smoker, what should you do? My boyfriend and I have actually stayed at another Gualala hotel where they had a beautiful little designated smoking area for guests. YES GO! I've stayed in so many places up and down the California coast through the years and checked Seacliff on the Bluff many years ago with the intent to come back. Due to a change in plans we arrived without a reservation and we so lucky they had one room available, October midweek. From that moment on we enjoyed one of the most relaxing and enjoyable trips to date. The rooms feel spacious and welcoming and include a super comfy bed with nice linens & pillows. Two comfy upholstered swivel chairs sit in front of huge windows with breath taking views (along with a table) which invites you to sit still and soak in the changing scenery before you. Two side windows open which provides great air and sound, yet no direct wind blowing in - and a side door opening to a deck with chairs and table. A pair of binoculars hang by the door to encourage lingering and taking in the sights. The jacuzzi tub is great although we used it only once (we know there is a drought) it was great knowing it was there if we wanted. Shower pressure was perfect and bath amenities including hair dryer were included and warm comfy robes to be used. Microwave, frig and coffee maker made it easy to buy food from the local stores and enjoy snacks (and meals) from your room or private deck. The whole place was relaxing and inviting and the staff were so accommodating - you really felt cared for, you are not just another customer. They wanted you to stay and enjoy the well cared for grounds and sit outside watching the spectacular sunsets, or be snuggled inside. They were helpful in recommending local places from their personal experience and based on your criteria. Seacliff on the Bluff is located next to some great restaurants and shops. Healing Arts & Massage Center was were I found Joanne, my massage therapist and she did an incredible job. A ride further up the coast allowed us time at Pt Arena and some good hiking on the headlands. There are so many coast side parks for daytime enjoyment and is not over visited. You truly are getting away from it all. Whether walking, hiking or driving your senses are wonderfully filled. And the price? Check their online specials - you can't afford NOT to go! This is such a tough review to write: on one hand I want to shout out how great this place is. On the other - what if it gets too busy and I can't get a reservation? We saw her bust about making certain garden perfect, bulletin board in perfect array. What a doll. Every room is sound of the heavy surf as if we bought a sleep CD of the ocean and all rooms with ocean view. Not peeks of the Sea. View! Spotless king sized beds. Big room. Coffee pot, little fridge and microwave, fireplace, HUGE 2 person jacuzzi tub not a squeeze your partner in tub and the Jets are located to a level for body enjoyment and not to soak the bathroom. Use less bubbles than I did,though, lol. On the bluff, as the name suggests. No way access to the beach except a real drive to state park, pay $7.00 to park and still a long walk. Read my restaurant reviews. Trinks for breakfast/ brunch, Antonios tacos (eat in your room) very inexpensive Antonios. Fancy go for the $50.00 per whatever dinner at the Russian onion dome restaurant we thought was closed. Consider making dinner out of grocery store items since there's not much recommended edible choices in Gualala. BUT Seacliff on the Bluff was a lucky find...and Kathy let us have our room when we arrived at 11:00 a.m. and you know that never happens anymore. read more

This place is the best choice of hotels in the area. It's CLEAN. They're friendly. All of the views are GORGEOUS! Each room is furnished well enough to stay for a week full of Gualala adventures. Bed, microwave, jetted tub (built for two!), mini fridge, complimentary sparkling cider. The second floor rooms have high, vaulted ceilings. The combo of the high ceilings, roaring fire, and wall to wall ceilings made this place feel like a vacation in the short time that we stayed (just one night). Things to note: - There is no cel service anywhere near this place! Make sure to have a map handy (one that does not rely on the internet) - The free wifi is a bit slow, but at least it's FREE! - No direct beach access from the hotel. The outside appearance of this lodge/hotel may fool you. The paint is a bit weathered (likely from salt water). Inside is a different story. Each room has a fireplace, a spa tub, and a beautiful balcony to watch the sunset (or sunrise). The furniture and accessories in the room don't seem to be new but at least everything was clean and comfortable. They had binoculars in the room for bird watching and our window had a lovely view of the water and the birds sitting on the water and on the "beach". I think each room has a very similar view and they seem like they are updating their buildings (the office was entirely new). We only stayed one night (Saturday) and cost us $195. A bit higher than what I'm used to but it was a very relaxing beautful place to stay. The spa tub was wonderful after a day of walking and kayaking. read more

Had the worst stay ever at any hotel I've ever stayed in. Day 1: person behind the counter in the office had the door locked after check-in time (check-in is 3pm); arrived after 4pm. We waited 30 minutes while the clerk ate his meal in the office. Got into our room: doorknob broken on door to our deck, clothes left by a previous client in the drawers, jet broken in the jacuzzi tub. Day 2: was greeted at the door with "you can't check-in until 3"; was there to get towels as there is no room service during COVID. Perhaps I could have been greeted with "may I help you?" or some other polite greeting. It got worst from there. Will never go back. There are many places on the coast with great views and gracious service. I do not recommend this place to anyone. When I decide to relax on the coast I expect at the least a clean room with nothing broken of left by previous clients, and polite service - not to be found here. read more

This motel is on the ocean side of the the highway, it's far enough away from the road to block out the highway noise which is really nice. Negatives: We stayed in a downstairs room and I would concur with Nick C.-a lot of people walk by on the trail all day. The view is obstructed by a spit of land but you can hear the ocean so that's wonderfully calming. I could hear the couple above us quite loudly at all times doing everything. The pillows were synthetic and super puffy so my neck was sore in the morning. I mention the synthetic part because I was not able to mold them to a desired shape like a down pillow. read more

Gualala is GF and I's spot to "Get Away" or celebrate B-Days and our Anniversary. We have consistently chosen Seacliff because of the true, Mendocino County feel and the smaller size of the hotel. The rooms all have a spa tub (With ocean views to watch the sunset), fireplace and a balcony or patio directly facing the ocean and beach. Go for the second story rooms, as people walking by in the morning while you are outside drinking coffee is a tad strange, even for me. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the prices are not bad, considering it is Gualala (Around $140 in off season and $200 in season a night). Also free champagne in your hotel room (It isn't great champagne, but a nice touch)! Ahhh... Nothing quite like falling asleep listening to the waves of the ocean. read more

I took my boyfriend here on a short trip for his birthday. I initially was attracted to this place because of the ocean views and small town it was in. Seacliff on the Bluff did not disappoint! The staff checking us in and out were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful in showing us what's around (and especially warning us about grocery stores and restaurants closing around 7/8pm). We had an upstairs room (high vaulted ceiling!) that had a wonderful view of the ocean (with binocculars and cushy recliner chairs to help enjoy the view), small porch, gas fireplace, hot tub, television, free wifi, and complementary apple cider. Our room came with a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker as well. The room was very simple but clean so I can't really ask for anything more because it was so relaxing! At night we left the window cracked to sleep to the sounds of the ocean. The only reason why I gave this place four stars instead of five is that parts of the bathroom are awkward and antiquated (e.g. hot tub area and bathroom sink didn't match the dated shower door and bathroom sliding door), though everything was in working order. My list of pros and cons: Pros: -Clean room, well stocked with toiletries and they even provide bathrobes. -To die for views, complete with binoculars for use while staying. The rooms have comfortable recliners too, so you can watch the evolving landscape, so pretty! -Extra large jacuzzi tub. You can definitely fit two, and it is heavenly. -In room fireplace, definitely makes it cozy. -Small balcony area right off the room, nice for relaxing. -Close to the surf market, which has fresh seafood and lots of specialty type foods. We brought a personal-size grill and grilled up crab, fish and shrimp and feasted till we were stuffed, it was so amazing(!) Cons: -My husband and I both remarked on the 80's wall decor. Definitely could use some updating. -The matress was not uncomfortable, but after two nights, my husband and I both awoke with lower back pain, but it wasn't substantial, just probably could have used a slightly firmer mattress. Our first night was relatively quiet. We had a downstairs room with no one above us, very peaceful. The next afternoon a family of four arrived with two kids, probably around 8 & 10. It would have made more sense to put families with children in a downstairs room, as they can be very loud while stomping around in a motel room, yes they're just being kids, but it's not like the ceiling/floor is sound proof; to the contrary, you can definitely hear your upstairs neighbors. The stomping and pounding was near maddening. Finally I put on my sleep headphones and put in some ear plugs and got the quiet I was seeking. I'm not child bashing, I have adult-aged children and I understand that kids have energy. I just think it put a pretty big damper on our romantic, peaceful evening having stomping (I'm not exaggerating, it was LOUD) kids above us. Probably won't return for this reason, I mean an in-room fireplace, with beautiful ocean views and a sexy jacuzzi tub really screams "couples" motel, but whatever...bring your elementary aged kids if you want and let them stomp around the room all evening and all, but really?! Honestly, other than the decision to put young kids above us, we really liked this place. If I ever return, we'll haul our stuff to an upstairs room, so as not to run the risk of listening to stomping & jumping all evening. read more
