Great spot for a 1-2 night stay! We were in the Anderson suite and it was plenty big for two and super cute. Well appointed with a comfortable (but only a Full) mattress, very nice linens and pillows, great EO bath products, and super plush towels. A few little things were off - shower was a fine size but water pressure was lacking. The windows should be double paned being this close to the road, but earplugs help. The heat is baseboard and tricky to control. The rooms will def need window AC units in the summer months to be bearable. It's a great place and super comfortable and cute spot to stay, especially being dog friendly and a nice price compared to other limited local options. Weird check-in experience, freezing room. There's a wall unit that doesn't work. I called their help desk upon check in because the room was freezing when we entered and the wall unit didn't work. They said to just use the space heater?? Okkaayyy... should have had the room heated before arrival or warned us that the unit didn't work. They said "the space heater should heat the room up quick" well it's been an hour and the room is still cold. The bed is rock hard, and definitely didn't seem like a queen size. What a joke. Pros- Great location and staff , Gerardo, the property manager was especially nice and helpful . Cons - even though we had a kitchenette , it was poorly stocked, no kitchen towels , or any other types of staples, we brought ingredients to make macaroni salad and couldn't even boil water even though we brought our own pan. The fridge is a tiny motel fridge so forget about bringing much food. We felt that the kitchenette was misrepresented as we couldn't even fry an egg or make a grilled cheese sandwich . Lovely places to sit outside but extremely unkept , dirty and neglected . This place has so much potential but needs TLC big time !!!! I brought up these issues with the manager as we were dissatisfied and he hung up on me . That isn't how you treat a customer who just spent over $1000 for 3 nights! read more

This place is gorgeous. My family and I got the two bed cottage #8. There is so much space and it is so clean. My kids were ecstatic when we walked in. We opened the windows and let the fresh air in, there is seating in the patio area that was a pleasure to sit at. Check-in was super easy! Love it! Great place. Not many choices in Philo. No frills, no TV in room. Reminded me of the Rosebud Inn in Schitt's Creek lol. Very simple accommodations but priced accordingly, very clean and with the basic necessities available. The in room heater worked well and we had a great nights sleep. Bob was very attentive during our stay and was just a phone call away. Nice fire pit with everything needed to have a lovely evening with friends. Next time we will bring supplies for s'mores. This place is barely one step above the camp grounds at Hendy. Bed is a full, not queen. Hard. Pillows terrible. Taking a shower is like rolling around in wet bed sheets as you are actually in the curtains during the whole thing. You'll see what I mean if you stay here. And there's no water pressure, it's the tiniest stream (like someone peeing on you). At least it wasn't cold. No TV. WiFi = terribly unreliable. Kept cutting out the entire time. Heater was ok. No fridge for the delicious food/wine we had during our trip. Slept like shit. Actually excited to be back at home in our own bed for a night's sleep, did NOT get any good "vacation" sleep as the bed was tiny and crap. Not as advertised. I fell in love with this place pulling up the driveway... and I am a picky customer What a SUPERB location ! We were driving on fumes and the gas station is a stone throw away. Literally across the street is a Schafenberger Cellers ! No need for designated driver just watch out when crossing Minutes away walk to Lemon's market where you can get delicious local wine, amazing, fresh sandwiches and anything necessary Few miles away is Roederer Estate with its delicious bubbly. Now the Inn...I am writing still from the room. Room # 1 it's a great suite with a queen bed and separate room with a tween bed, full kitchen ( everything but stove ), comfy bed, nice sitting area outside ( personal little courtyard ). Everything is just... perfect. Separate mention of Bob, the owner. What a nice, easy going guy ! Bring your ear plugs. Very noisy. Beds are comfortable , room is small with no place to put much. Pedestal sink in bathroom with extremely small shower. Shower had lots of pressure but the handle was easily bumped into. Had to use the top of the toilet to put toiletries we brought with us. No storage or shelving for anything . No ice available on site and only 1 really small trash can for the room. Lighting was poor. No air conditioning available but luckily it cooled off at night. When asking for anything to be replenished the response was we'll see if anyone is available to accommodate your request. We won't be back. No refrigerator or microwave available. I had a wonderful stay at the Anderson Valley Inn. I stayed here with my dog and it was the perfect spot to unwind after a long drive. The unit I stayed in was clean and cozy and the bed was super comfortable. Check-in and check-out was smooth and the host was very proactive in sending all the information you need in advance. There is a nice garden on the property with tables you can relax in and plenty of space for my dog to sniff around. Very easy to get to, and plenty of beautiful pet friendly wineries nearby, some within walking distance. Beautiful area. Priced very well. Highly recommend! read more

Very nice, quiet inn. We stayed there for 2 nights recently. I had a little trepidation as there's no air conditioning and the weather was a bit on the warm side. Fortunately our unit was on the end and in the shade. Even during the day it was comfortable. The room and bathroom were very small but immaculately clean. Not having TV wasn't an issue. The wifi is pretty slow and initially I couldn't log on. When I called, the owner restarted his router and that worked. Unfortunately every time I picked up my phone or tablet it required me clicking on 2 browser windows to continue. They had coffee, fruit and pastries which were nice. About the only uncomfortable thing was the owners hovering around. My Sister-in-law came by to shower before a wedding. The wife asked my wife about it, saying she overheard it and that there was a drought. When my wife said that she wouldn't be showering that day, the owner's wife said that it would be ok. Let's start with the positives. This place is as clean as can be, impressively so. Little extra details have been carefully thought out--a black make-up wash cloth, ear plugs, disposable make up wipes, and board games, just to name a few. Also, they take dogs. Normally they have a two night minimum, but my husband was able to negotiate a one night stay as they appeared to have absolutely no other customers that weekend. Compared to some of the other boutique hotels/inns in the immediate area, this is a more economically-minded option. Finally, our unit had a surprisingly large kitchen. The not quite so positives...The room decor was a weird hodge-podge of items. Worn out craftsman table mixed with modern green chairs and a tropical beach painting over the bed. Tropical painting in a redwood cabin...strange. Quilts on two beds while newish, fresh and crisp did not coordinate with each other at all. The bare (cork?) flooring gave the feeling of a cheap motel. A large area rug would benefit the room we stayed in greatly. I'm guessing their willingness to accept pets is a business decision, not a dog lover decision. When we asked where we could walk our dog, the recommendation was along the main highway, of course. They didn't recommend the neighborhood road right in front of the inn. They also advised that we not wander around on land willy nilly as people aren't receptive, especially the weed growers. Turns out the State Park just a short distance away is pretty accommodating if you follow certain parameters. On the day we inquired, the ranger told us we could even let the dog off leash to romp in the river at one specific spot. We could also walk the dog on leash on all asphalted roads and this one fire road within the State Park. How could they not know this about their own small town? We initially did walk a short distance down the neighborhood street just outside the inn and after encountering a surly, ill-kempt, most likely drugged out dude walking home who decided to pee in the bushes right in front of us, we turned right back around. As others have mentioned, we definitely felt observed whenever we were outside the room. It gave me the feeling of being an unwelcome intruder. In all honesty, we wanted to stay at the hotel at the place where we enjoyed our dinner--restaurant Table 128. A definite two night minimum at that option put us at Anderson Inn instead. We were not unhappy. It's a good option if you don't want to spend the money on the higher end boutique hotel options. Plus, any place that takes pets, dog lovers or not, is aces in my book. read more

Here's my problem with Anderson Valley Inn: they are NOT dog-friendly as advertised. Surely, the location is great and the bed is comfortable but the inn keepers insist that you don't leave your dogs in their suites unattended even if they are well-behaved. We ended taking our dogs everywhere we went. They slept in our Outback while we went out to dinner instead of sleeping in our warm suite. Their dog rules are ridiculous. It'll cost you $200 for every infraction, Bob the innkeeper says while he makes you sign your receipt. He lives in the premises and looks out the window every time you leave to make sure the dogs are with you. We're not coming back. And by the way, there's free wi-fi but the innkeepers turn it off at night. read more

We stayed here for the 4th of July weekend 2013. The first night we stayed in a standard room and the second we were in the suite. The suite was much larger and had a kitchen and an extra bedroom. If you have the $$ go for the suite but the standard room was a great deal. -Perfect location. I stayed here with my boyfriend for the holiday weekend in one of the standard rooms. It was small, but very cute and perfect for just a few days. The room was clean, and the bed was super comfortable. I usually have a hard time sleeping well in hotels, but I had no trouble sleeping here. There's no A/C, but we did have a ceiling fan - that seemed to work just fine for us. The owners were always available if we had any questions or needed recommendations for places to go. had such a wonderful time at this simple unassuming inn. I decided to check it out on a trip to Mendocino with my mom and we are both so happy we did. It is a great place to rest after too much wine, when you really don't think you want to drive the extra 45 minutes to the coast. We took a look at a couple rooms and my mom liked room 6 so we went with that. It was like $80 total, or thereabouts. Very reasonable. The room is simple but clean and charming. No TV as everyone has mentioned but some interesting books and games...we played a game called the "Ungame" which led to lots of interesting conversation. And there were Wildflower flashcards and another nice book about coastal nature. So much better than TV in my humble opinion! I am a bit bummed to read that other guests had treats in the morning cause there was nothing for us :( However, the morning did treat me to a beautiful glimpse of a Varied Thrush outside the window. Also saw a Acorn Woodpecker, a Spotted Towhee, and other more common avian lovelies. Granted, the 5 stars is largely due to my 5 star company, but still, there is some good energy to be enjoyed in the quiet simplicity of this quaint convenient inn. I had a business and pleasure trip to Philo this weekend and stayed two nights here. Once I arrived I was delighted to realize and learn that this is the same place I stayed in with my family in the late 60's when I was around 12 years old. It had a different name then, but I distinctly remember its location because it is right next to the gas service station. It met my needs perfectly and I really felt at home. Across the highway in very short walking distance is a restaurant where I ate and a grocery store where I bought some items and if I get around to writing reviews for them I would also give them 5 stars. We LOVED this inn...clean, cozy, well-decorated. No TVs or wi-fi, but if you are planning a romantic weekend up in the Anderson Valley, there's no reason for any of that anyways. Our shower was on the smaller side but def nothing to complain about. The inn was located in the town of Philo, nothing really to eat in Philo except Libbys (was closed when we were in town), but not a far drive away from Boonville where you can eat at the restaurant in the Boonville Hotel. What's great about this inn is a bunch of wineries within walking distance from the inn. We also drove up the 128 to the 1 and hung out a small little beach where we saw seals hanging out. This place is a pretty typical Mendocino offering. Once you understand that, you can accept the nuances. And hey, it's a pretty reasonable rate while getting gouged all over the valley. If you are looking for resort, you have options. But for me, I'm looking for a place to sleep and shower. I'm not there to watch TV or read a book. Stayed in suite which is large and has spare bedroom and kitchen. Although this is not provided as a cooking kitchen (only M/W not stove) I really appreciated the thoughtful extras all around the kitchen & the suite. You can curl up with their games or books either indoors or out in the quiet landscaped individual seating area. If you know anything about construction you will see they put a lot of time into the simple timeless units. Everything from the #5 plaster texture to the refinished richly stained locally re-sawn wood trim everywhere speaks of the care they wished to provide. Nice fixtures and accessories but not overpowering. Bob is very helpful and will help you find the best way to quietly enjoy this escape into simplicity. Small local town is a charming stroll with a good store. Mendocino biking or kayaking is west along the beautiful 128 or go east to country chic cuisine in Boonville or the funky Rock Shop beyond. Don't need to be sozzled with wine tasting to enjoy this trip! read more

We found this place after three days camping and the price was excellent and the owners awesome. We stayed in a small room for a great price and we really liked the outside fire pit and the owners let us cook our steaks on our own barbi. This place is clean and so fun at night with the stars and animals its incredible at the end of the valley. The bakery downtown is awesome and some the best coffee and pastries I have had in some time. Make sure to go wine tasting and hit Sharfenberger across the street really excellent champagne. read more

This review is long overdue for me. My husband and I eloped in Philo last year and a couple of the vendors were scheduled to say at the Anderson Valley Inn on the evening of the wedding. They had to change their plans very last minute and Bob was compassionate and worked with me even though he really didn't have to. I truly appreciate Bob's responsiveness throughout the entire process and can't recommend Anderson Valley Inn enough. I hope to stay there myself at some point in the future! read more

This was a cute little place. We stayed two nights and it was quite nice. Not luxurious or anything but not exactly rustic. Just the basics...a full-size bed with end tables, a little table and two chairs and a couple of lamps. Little bathroom with a shower. No TV's or any of that. The owner was quite nice. Every morning he sets out coffee with some light snacky foods like muffins & fruit in their garden which was a delightful little area with tons of cool plants and flowers with some loungy chairs and market umbrellas scattered throughout. Seemed like the perfect place to stay if you were going to be pretty active during the day, running around to wineries and stuff...just a nice place to chill out and relax at the end of the day! read more

A small motel/inn that has a lovely garden and charming touches such as an interesting assortment of books in the room. Clean and well maintained, with a very nice guy at the front desk, Jamal. First I have not stayed here. I wanted to stay here but after my second call I decided not too. I called on a Tuesday and wanted to see if they had any single night rooms. I know it is a two night minimum but the very nice lady said to call back Thursday and if I did and they had a room for me and my dog I could get it for one night. I called Thursday and low and behold they had the room. The nice lady I spoke to was not there and I got a gentleman instead. After he quoted me on a room I told him I had a dog. His tone changed and suggested straight away to find someone to watch my dog as the cost was going to go up a $100 not a big deal because they only allow dogs in certain rooms and the room they allow them in costs more plus a cleaning fee. The total was going to be $255 and change. No big deal. I was going to get to travel and have my dog with me. I am used to paying more. But I do not pay extra for a lousy attitude and basically making me feel like me and my dog are not wanted there. So instead of staying there, I will go up for the day do what I want then head to Ft Bragg. where me and my dog are welcomed. Shame really wanted to try the place out. read more

What a great find! My boyfriend and I made last minute plans to drive to Anderson Valley and located the Anderson Valley Inn on the web. My BF made reservations over the phone with Bob (he and his wife are the owners) and let me tell you we will both stay here when we return. When we arrived for check-in, we had gotten there a little early but no problem - our room was ready. Bob had been working in his charming garden, but he met us at the car and then completed our check-in at the office. He pointed us in the direction of his favorite wineries - fantastic recommendations! (We managed to make it to Meyer Family, Lazy Creek, Husch, Scharffenberger Cellars, and Breggo). We were only able to go to five of them so we will definitely make it to the others when we return. He also made reservations for us at the Booneville Hotel, about 5-6 miles south of Philo. We lucked out and had a nice little table to ourselves on the back patio - great dinner. The Inn is well maintained, a bargain (we stayed on a Monday and Tuesday) and wonderfully free of "amenities" we think we can't live without (TV, Wi-Fi, all that stuff). The fact that the room lacked technology was one of the reasons that I got the best sleep I've had this year. Trust me people - you can and should live without it! The other reason we both slept well is that the area is so peaceful, and the days are magically long. Redwoods and wineries are close by - definitely go to Scharffenberger Cellars which is right across the street! The bed was comfortable and there was a little table with chairs in the room where we could nosh on some snacks before heading out to wine taste. The Inn is located in the heart of everything Anderson Valley has to offer - we took a nice drive to the coast on our last full day. Thank you to Bob and his wife Lydia - we will be back! read more
