There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.

I love that it had a full kitchen so you can cook delicious meals with fresh ingredients such as the daily delivered eggs straight from the chickens and greens you pick from the garden. If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Would love to experience Mar Visita during the spring or summer!

By the way, every room has a private bath, unlike a lot of B&Bs. The house has a variety of rooms and amenities, so do your homework to make sure you get what you're looking for. The WiFi was very spotty and cell signal is non-existent, so plan accordingly for this. The breakfast, while lighter than some B&Bs I've stayed at, was delicious. Everything is homemade by a very talented staff. The service all around was terrific. We ate dinner the first night at the Pier Chowder House, just a 2 minute walk to the waterfront. Good food, lots of local beer and wine to choose from. The second night we found out about a scampi and crab feed at the grange in Manchester, a few miles north of town. There's also a decent Indian Casino just outside of town. There's a great coop market in town (a mile away, back on Hwy 1), as well as a small movie theater that used to be a playhouse. They sometimes have live music events there, too. Be sure to drive 4 miles north to the lighthouse. You can actually climb up the 145 steps to the top and see for miles. Take your camera! There's a small museum and gift shop as well. All in all, we had a great weekend. It was well worth the drive. We'll be back!

Just got back from an amazing and relaxing LONG weekend up the coast with the wife. We spent two…read morenights at the Coast Guard House and I have to say, this is one of the quaintest and coziest little B&Bs I've ever stayed in. The location is right on the Arena Cove waterfront; secluded and - most importantly - quiet. The house was actually used by the Coast Guard back in the day so it has lots of history behind it. Your typical frilly Victorian B&B decor (bleh) is non-existant...think more turn-of-the-century craftsman. Our room (Surfmen Cove) was spacious, with a gas fireplace and sunken tub in the bathroom. Downstairs in the living room/parlor there is a wood burning stove that is usually lit in the mornings and evenings with a nice sitting area in front of it. Mmm, love that smell... The innkeepers, Kevin and Mia, have been operating this establishment since the mid-1990s. They are very friendly and willing to help you secure local dinner reservations as well as give you ideas on what to do with yourself while in the Mendocino area. Mia is originally from Philadelphia, so east coast feistiness + plenty of caffeine = enthusiastic "audio/visual presentations" over breakfast on local sights and activities. Fellow inn guests were just as friendly. The group this particular weekend was mostly from the south bay. One evening we ran into another couple staying at the inn at the Arena Cove Bar & Grill (just a few steps away from the CGH...another plus!) after driving back from dinner in Mendocino. We ended up sharing pints, stogies and port well into the wee hours. I would definitely come back here, and maybe next time try one of the two cottages they have on the grounds in addition to the five rooms in the main house. Holiday weekend note: The CGH can be flexible with reservation minimums. The website (which allows online reservations) says there is a three-night minimum required in order to make a reservation over a holiday weekend. For Memorial Day weekend, we actually wanted to stay at the CGH for only two nights (Friday and Saturday) and then head to Napa to stay at the Carneros Inn on Sunday night. On the previous Monday, I noticed online that there still seemed to be rooms available for the weekend. I phoned Kevin and he was agreeable to making an exception to the three-night rule and allowed us to complete our reservation for just two nights.

The room also had coffee, tea, a tea kettle, and a coffee pot, and they even emailed us in advance to ask what type of creamer we wanted in the room, including almond, oat, and half-and-half options. One of our favorite parts was the real wood fireplace. It made the room feel so cozy and special. The bed was also super comfortable and warm, and we fell asleep with the window open, which was perfect. Eric and the team also give guests access to the lobby area, where you can play games, read books, and enjoy homemade cookies and lemon bars that they leave out for everyone. It was such a sweet touch. The entire property is beautiful and open, and there is a short trail down to the beach, about three minutes from the property. Around 5 p.m., we saw locals walking their dogs and hanging out by the beach, which made it feel even more charming and peaceful. Breakfast in the morning was amazing and included with the stay. Eric explained where all the ingredients were from (local) and even accommodated gluten free guests. Overall, Allegra has everything you need, so you really do not need to bring much. It was cozy, welcoming, and such a special place to stay. Big shoutout to Eric who went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. We recently married in August 2025 and we wanted to get out of Los Angeles and see the Redwoods for our honeymoon. We were looking for quiet, peace, and nature. We found a small piece of heaven, a glimpse into the garden of Eden or at least the ranch in heaven! THE ROOM: We stayed for 4 nights and had the most relaxing time together. Let me start with the room. My husband called and emailed as he was able to see pictures of the rooms to help make a decision. We chose the Captains Quarters and it served us perfectly. We had access to the jacuzzi, a very private room, and the most serene view. The inn was so well kept and the attention to detail was very much appreciated. I pray it stays like this and they keep investing in the upkeep as it was well maintained and we loved the craftsmanship. We loved the decor of the room. I didn't even think twice about a tv. There is no need for television with a view of paradise through the window. THE PEOPLE: We were so blessed to have Colby hosting us at dinner time each evening. He went above and beyond to help us have privacy as we dined each night at a newly married couple. He worked very hard and was exceptionally good and professional at his job. He kept the fireplace going each night for us, talked with us when we engaged conversation, was polite, respectfully, and made us feel very comfortable. He recommended and made great drinks, and helped us with some exploration tips around the area. We made it to the Avenue of the Giants, the tide pools, Mendocino, and a few other local places like Fort Bragg and the Skunk Train. Colby made us feel at home on the ranch. Clancy gave us an amazing UTV tour. His knowledge of the rich history of the area and deep passion for what he does made the trip all the more special. He showed us great sights and if we had more time, we would have definitely done the picnic next time. What he does on the trails to maintain and create them is incredible. What a job to maintain the land. Also, I loved being able to meet and pet his dog! THE FOOD: This is where I was blown away. I thought we were coming for the view, but had no idea the food would be just as stunning. Chef Nick Wells, you are a culinary genius. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to meet and speak with Chef Nick. He, too, was familiar with the surrounding Los Angeles area and so it was great to connect and to share our appreciation and admiration for his talent and creativity. He was so down to earth and friendly. The food was next level. We did both the ranch supper and tasting menu. We originally only had one dinner planned, but after tasting supper we canceled all other dinner reservations and made sure to come back each night for the food. Literally, we reworked our plans to come back and taste what creation he had planned for the evening. It was one of the highlights of the honeymoon and it really gave us a chance to connect as a couple. Side note, we fell in love with the bacon each morning- just incredible. I woke up looking forward to what feast awaited us at breakfast! What a treat and a great way to start our day each morning with a hearty feast. THE EXPERIENCE: The views not only from the room, but the ranch itself were breathtaking. I am used to Southern CA coastline with homes and businesses lining the beaches. Here, a person can breathe. This is how it was intended to be. I am so glad The Inn was kept to the number of rooms it is and that they haven't expanded to some big hotel. It would lose the magic and wonder. I loved that the dining experience was just for guests and there was no traffic. It was intimate and made us feel a part of the ranch. I really valued the experience. We worked very hard to be able to have this experience. Being able to appreciate the land, the trails, and the history of how Mr. Wilson wants to keep the land as was well worth it. The lodge itself was gorgeous. From the stained glass windows at the entrance to the garden and the trails with such special views, I was overwhelmed with beauty. We were so lucky the flowers called "Naked Ladies" which only bloom for about two weeks each year bloomed while we were there. Those pink ladies were gorgeous. THE FUTURE: We are starting to save now for August 2035 for our 10th year anniversary. We look forward to what awaits us down the road when we visit again! Please don't change. The cabin is fully equipped including cable tv, dvd, fully supplied kitchen, comfortable beds, plush towels in the bathroom, and an outside deck directly overlooking both the cove and ocean. There's a round table with chairs and umbrella to get out of the sun and two very comfy chairs (one lounge with footrest) to sit and read or just take in the beautiful views. Best sunsets around!
